View Full Version : BN or FM or solo fan?
discussion on possible BN album/tour vs FM album/tour made me wonder what are percentages of fans on The Ledge who are:
primarily BN fans (i would suspect very small but i might be wrong) vs
primarily FM fans vs
primarily solo artist fans (either LB solo or SN solo or CM solo, doesn't matter who is your preference as long as it's one of them solo that you prefer).
EDIT: if anybody is confused by the poll question, you can go with the follow-up question:
if you have a choice of a solo album/tour, FM album/tour, or a BN album/tour as the next step, which would you choose?

in the case anybody was still wondering, my preference is LB solo - although i like his music with the band too, FM and BN are secondary to me. so my vote goes for the 3rd option.

Yeah, I was reading all the BN vs Mac debate here on the forum. To me since Christine left FM in '98, Fleetwood Mac is Buckingham Nicks, since they are the songwriters/vocalists. I perhaps have heard one or two songs from the BN album, but I am wholeheartly a Fleetwood Mac fan. Second would be Stevie's solo career.
...of course I guess the question could be asked of FM fans...which era?
for me Rumours era, then all other eras right in behind.

good question. since the poll is in the Rumours era forum, this poll is focused on that era too.
that's why i put in as solo artists just Stevie, Lindsey and Christine, and not others who are represented in separate forums (e.g., Peter Green, or Mick's various non-FM bands).

Buckingham Nicks did one album 40 years ago. It's hardly comparable to the body of work within Fleetwood Mac or each artist's solo endeavours.
I like them all pretty equally.

As much as I adore Fleetwood Mac, it struck me lately that I love Lindsey's solo work just that little bit more. Lindsey hasn't got a bad album in my view; whereas FM have a couple (I won't offend by mentioning which ones I think are utter crap. I'll just leave it to the imagination lol. Though they're not any album that's been released by the "final lineup/Christine + Final lineup).

I love pretty much every FM album. I love both of Chris' FM era solo CD's. I LOVE Lindsey's Law and Order, and OOTC. Stevie, I love Bella Donna and The Wild Heart.
But that's pretty much it, as far as solo albums go....

That's two different questions Elle:
1. Which do you prefer - BN, FM or solo?
2. Which do you hope they do next BN album/tour, FM album/tour, solo album/tour?
Clearly, you phrased your question wrong - or you have two different questions.
And that's why I am not voting. :)

What I'd like to see next is a stripped down organic Buckingham/Nicks album.Even with their spent voices I think it could still really be something if done properly and a beautiful way to fade into the twilight of their long and storied careers.

FM-1975, was when I was hooked , and have been ever since. Then came Stevie's solo career , which I totally enjoy just as much as the Mac, maybe a little more . I have always loved the BN album, and appreciate what Lindsey and Stevie did with that. A tie between FM and Stevie, but if I had to pick just one, I'd go with Stevie.
That said, if I had to choose between what project I would wish to come next, I would without a doubt choose the BN project/tour.

The reason I voted for Buckingham/Nicks is because it's the singer's I'm most concerned with. Aanyone could play the drums, bass or guitar as far as I am concerned. I don't go to a LB show to hear him play guitar, though I do enjoy the way he plays. I'm there because I like him and his vocals. I go to see Stevie because I love the sound of her voice and for the visual aspect.
I would be just as happy with a Fleetwood Mac album but this poll only allowed us to vote for one.

I love Fleetwood Mac most, always. That's where Stevie did her best work. I love some of her solo albums, but none of them, to me, have quite lived up to her contributions to Fleetwood Mac, WA-Mirage. I would say the same of Christine.
I think Lindsey, on the other hand, has done much of his best work on his own. I probably enjoy LB's solo material as much, if not more than, Stevie's. They're so different, though, that it's impossible to compare.
I love BN, but the body of work is so limited, I can't rank it.
In terms of what comes next, I'd be ecstatic for more material from any configuration.
I love Fleetwood Mac dearly. There is never a question of that. And I honestly would be overjoyed if Buckingham-Nicks ever did decide to tour as a duo and the energy that their collaboration would give off...ugh, so beautiful.
But I would be lying if I didn't say that I am a straight up Lindsey girl through and through. He is my main draw to Fleetwood Mac at all, and his music is what I listen to more than anything related to FM. I've seen him live far more times than FM or SN and I am truly, sincerely in love with that man's music and artistry. He never fails to blow me away.

i've never seen FM live (but would go see them once, in whatever arena is the closest to me ), never seen SN live, while i have seen LB live so many times in the last year that it's getting hard to count - like you said Nico, even with the repetitive and short sets, he still never fails to blow me away and i don't want to give up that exhilarating feeling. :]
i own only Tusk and SYW out of FM studio albums, and all LB's studio and live albums, DVDs and blu-rays.
regarding BN, as everybody knows by now, i really dislike the sound of the original BN album. however i do like the sound of Twisted and SA (however different they are!), and can appreciate the chemistry between Stevie and Lindsey over the years. so i would be curious to see what they do together, w/o whatever expectations and constrains may be within FM. if any BN project happens i would expect it will be done fast (maybe put out on Mind Kit label?), and that any tour behind it would be really short, before going back to big-money-for-everybody FM touring. i would be curious to see a show on BN tour, especially as that would presumably not be a big arena seller such as FM shows.
as long as that's all done quick and we can get more of LB solo as soon as possible:cool:. they are not getting any younger, nobody can afford 3-4 years for a FM project cycle anymore!:p

If Stevie is involved it would never be done fast. The only time that ever happened was with the recording of Twisted and that was only because the song was needed on the soundtrack and they asked her so close to its deadline to record it. Probably why she called Lindsey to begin with, 'cause she knew he could make a masterpiece out of it in such a short timeframe.
I also don't think Stevie would ever desire an album she's involved with to be released on an independant label.

Toatally agree with everything you said Nico. A BN tour would be intriguing...their chemistry is legendary and I'd be lying too, if I said I didn't care to witness it in person, without the full band. And hopefully with their mics closer together than when they're with FM
BUT, if I could only see one more concert - ever - what whould it be? LB of course! I never want him to stop touring and I would prefer seeing Lindsey, LIVE, more than anything else in the world. And we're running out of time for any of these options, so, all said, I'm in the camp that says I'd be very happy with any of the options - as long as I am certain to get more Lindsey solo as well...and soon!

Personally I don't think we're running out of time for anything. As far as we know both Lindsey and Stevie are in good health. Being in your 60's really isn't old age considering I'm 50 and all my siblings are in their 50's and my oldest sibling is 62 and we're all healthy. Great singer's will perform until they die. so i guess if your preference is anybody solo (BB, PG, or maybe one of Mick's various separate bands, etc), that could go into the solo bucket too, with the note like yours. of course that might complicate the whole FM bucket too, since any FM would then need to count also...:lol:

If you really can't hear the difference or what Mick, John, and Christine brought to that song, then you need to get your ears checked. I could hear any band in any town USA (or elsewhere) do something like the Buckingham Nicks version of Rhiannon. It's pretty basic. Nothing too special. But the Fleetwood Mac version is a rock legend. It has subtlety. It has style. It even has hints of the blues. It's one of the most inspired performance pieces ever, and that wouldn't have happened with JUST any bassist, drummer, guitarist, etc (as in Stevie wouldn't have been as inspired if the band didn't rock that hard).

Nah, I voted Fleetwood Mac. For me, it's all about Mick, John, Christine, and a wonderful cast of characters. However, Mick DID have a full-blown solo album (The Visitor) credited only to him, and that's probably my favorite solo album from the "Rumours" lot if only because of how daring it was. Screw Paul Simon! (Yes, that's a Graceland joke.)

You seem like such a huge fan of Lindsey's,

see my follow-up post above about the live and best of albums that i also have. there are maybe what? 1 or 2? Rumours songs that are not on some or all of these other releases. same with White Album. like many other people, i would sequence differently many of FM studio albums, or pick some songs but not others. the way i went about picking what to actually buy was mostly by listening to all these albums via things like rhapsody etc, and then buying what i liked the most. i really don't like most of Mirage or Tango:sorry:. there are people who are production buffs and like to see what was done in different eras... however i dislike the sound and feeling of Tango. PG-era albums would be incomparably higher on my list than these. while i think relatively early LB songs like ISA, MM, or SHN are amazing, i tend to like ISA better in its thousands of different live iterations (i LOVE it on his current tour!)... and i am not a fan of LB's young high voice (think Crystal). i like the way his music has progressed over the years and love where he is now.
also, Lindsey's music is so varied... i know many people who are just as huge LB fans who love all those LB songs that i really dislike, and vice versa. Lindsey himself seems to be fond of some of his songs like Treason or UTS which are definitely not among my favorites, to put it nicely. what i find and love in his music may be (and seems to be!) very different from what somebody else does. so, to answer your question - i don't know.

As I stated earlier, there is no reason this has to be FM's final farewell album. What if the members all live to be 150? Well, unfortunately Christine was unable to make Time "work," which is infinite orders of magnitude worse than the worst cut on SYW. But that's not a slam against Chris- saving Time would have been like trying to steer the Titanic away from the iceberg. Even a great talent like Christine could not counterbalance the outright tonnage of mediocrity from the other singer/songwriters on that effort.
Yes, I would love nothing more than to see Christine back in the fold. But SYW, although was not as good as Tusk or Rumours, definitely has its moments. Personally, I think it would have been among the best FM albums ever if Lindsey would have contributed those other Gift of Screws tracks instead of the tracks that ended up on SYW. And Stevie should have offered another vault song for Lindsey to butcher, er, produce rather than "Smile at You." Unfortunately his tasteless handling of that song is what almost ruins an otherwise decent set of songs.

Was She even THERE most of the......er.....time? I mean I know she recorded some vocals and her songs....but....and maybe i'm remembering
this wrong. I seem to remember her not even being at the sessions most of the time. could be wrong though. I'm talking about Time, BTW. Oh maybe that was just the tour. Eh...who knows. It WAS awful.

I really don't think SYW quite qualifies as a terrible album .It would have been much better had Christine been involved as a full member and chipped in her best songs that ended up on ITM .It could have also used some editing.I 'd rank it above Time and BTM for sure and also earlier ones like Penguin..another one which some very good Christine songs could not quite salvage.

I think SYW is a great album as it is.

I hope to God they won't be trying to perform in their '80's...
 Don't give a cr*p about the others, but I hope to God that Linds is still performing in his 80s!

Not me. I wish they would retire Fleetwood Mac.
They've already waited too long to do it the right
way.
Now a new Buckingham Nicks album and tour would
be of interest to me if Stevie can still sing.
Other than that, I'll be glad to have a few more
Buckingham solo discs.

I chose solo. While I started out as an FM fan, I've definitely found that nowadays I'm much more invested in Christine's solo career and enjoy it just that bit more than FM.

Well I wasn't necessarily meaning that - just that I'm still gonna love him just the same as I do now! ;) And he can rock it out gently at his own pace, I don't mind! :)

Drat. I can't vote for anything without giving the impression that I want Lindsey Buckingham to make more music.
Just vote solo artist. No one is going to mistakenly think you mean Lindsey.

I love the band the most. But, I love all of it. And I love B/N album just as much as the pre-B/N stuff. Love some Stevie's early solo work. And all the rest of the solo work from Mick, Christine, LB. Don't like John's album, very much.

I'm torn between the band and Stevie and Lindsey's solo careers. Stevie's Bella Donna (my favorite FM-related album) and The Wild Heart and Lindsey's Out of the Cradle and Under the Skin are convincing arguments for the solo stuff outclassing Fleetwood Mac. But then, there's Rumours, there's Tusk and Mirage. So many utterly fantastic songs scattered all over those three incredible albums. Hmm..
Like I said, I'm torn.

Well, I think we saw Buckingham Nicks on the road (back by Fleetwood and Mac) in 2003/2004, 2009and 2013 ... So, no BN for me.
I'm a fan since 1987 and never really cared that much for LB solo-work. Since I stand at his feet in Antwerp in 2009 I jus adore his stage-performance, but I doubt I'll stand through an entire solo-show ...
Stevie toured Europe solo only once 27 (twenty-seven) years ago, so I think it;s time she bring her own stuff on a stage in my part of the world. So I choose for SN solo.

Ooooooh, toughie.
I used to be such a Buckingham Nicks girl.
I voted Fleetwood Mac, though. I love all five. Last year's show may not have been groundbreaking, but it was so heartening for me. I can live on past glories ... and deluxe album editions, if I must.
