Hey everybody,
I was wondering if any of you might be Heart fans. Because if any of you are I have 2 questions. I believe it was 2002 when Heart put out a double disc set called Live in Seattle. The first song on the second cd was called Heavan. Ann Wilson said that the song would be on their next album. It wasn't. So I asked someone on the seven wonders website and a guy posted back that the band felt that the song wasn't fleshed out enough to put on a cd. So I'm thinking why was it fleshed out enough to sing live in concert and put on a live cd but not good enough to actually record on a album. So that doesn't make sense to me. So if anyone has any info on that song it would be much appreciated. The second question is about a song I think is called Heart of darkness. I got this tape many years ago and it had some demos and live stuff on it. This was the first song on the tape. Does it ring a bell for any of you or anything? Does anyone have info on this song. I happen to like this song very much and I really wish they had recorded that one also. Well any help with this is greatly appreciated.

I love heart. I think they're first 5 albums are masterful. Dreamboat Annie Through Bebe Le Strange. Then they're power ballad phase is a little hit and Miss. I adore they're last album though....Red Velvet Car. The Wilson's are amazing:blob2:

Hi Madeline -- I've never heard the reason why "Heaven" wasn't included on 'Jupiter's Darling' (the other four new songs from 'Alive in Seattle' -- "Sister Wild Rose," "The Witch," "Two Faces of Eve" and "Break The Rock" -- also didn't make the cut), but "Heart of Darkness" was released as the b-side to "What About Love" in 1986. Great song.

Madeline, that incredibly vague explanation is what I've heard as well and it doesn't make sense to me either. Heaven is one of Heart's greatest songs and with the proper arrangement and production, could be wonderful for an album. Perhaps, it will be included on their next album Fanatic.

Heart Of Darkness was an outtake, recorded for the Heart album in 1985. If I'm not mistaken, it was included as a B-side for the What About Love single. There are a few demos that have circulated from that era. One of them is Victim Of Paradise and another is called Love's Taken Over Me. There is video footage of Ann Wilson recording these songs in the recording studio, which I've heard, was intended for a documentary that was never released. Some of that footage, I believe, is available on YouTube, including Ann singing What About Love with Grace Slick and Mickey Thomas.
I've also heard that there were other songs considered in 1984 for what eventually became the Heart album, including Break The Rock(a "heavy-metal" kind of song that initially was offered to Joan Jett), Sister Wild Rose(originally titled Sweet Deceiver), Ghosts and For Your Love(i.e. If I Have To Ask For Your Love), which was performed live in Florida. Unfortunately, the demos of Sister Wild Rose and Break The Rock that I've heard exist in a vault, will probably not be on the retrospective compilation boxed-set Strange Euphoria due to be released next month.

Oh wow, I've never heard the demos -- how different are they from the live versions on 'Alive In Seattle?'

I don't know the answer to your questions but I must admit that I love Heart. I discovered them like almost 10 years ago when I was going through the "female-rock" period in my life. Ann Wilson is one of the best rock singers (regardless of sex) in the world and she can sing the most beautiful notes out of the worst song. While many people seem to disregard their 80's era as just more Poppy era I must say that it produced a lot of memorable albums (like "Bad Animals" and self-titled 1985's record). I just love how Ann's voice sounds againts the wall of synths. And those melodies...Who could forget "These Dreams", "Alone" or "Nothing At All"? Recently I have heard a techno and hip/hop version of "Alone" which only made me miss the original. Cheesy? Probably. Overproduced? Definately. But what's important-classic in every possible way, at least for me :)

Johnny, there may have been a misunderstanding regarding my post. What I meant is that I've heard that there are demos of those songs, not that I've actually heard them. By the way, I've also heard that Ann initially was going to record These Dreams so there is probably a version with her vocals. I'd love to hear that!

I have always loved Heart. The first time I saw them was in 1979 at the New Haven Coliseum. John Cougar was the opening act. One year later in June, 1980 I went to a huge outdoor football stadium show with 70,000 people at the Yale Bowl to see The Eagles with Heart and The Little River Band perform. Heart was way better than The Eagles that day. Next I saw Heart in 1982 and again in 1987(twice). In 1996(or sometime around then) I saw Ann perform on a very small stage with Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris in Phoenix. I also saw Heart one last time in Phoenix in I think 1999. Each and every time I saw them they were phenominal.

I'm especially looking forward to hearing the demos of Under The Sky and Desire Walks On.

That must have been spectacular!

Ann sang with Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris? That's incredible. Do you recall which songs they sang together? In 1999, Linda and Emmylou released their album Western Wall: The Tucson Sessions. Do you think that was when you actually saw them? They toured together that year.

It could have been then. Ann was a special guest probably. I was just thinking there is only one song by Ann Wilson I've never liked and that is the duet she sang with Mike Reno, PARADISE. I just heard it on the radio today for the first time this century and I still don't care for it.

I always liked Heart.I used to work with a fellow named John.He is some how related to the girls. He told me stories about the girls when they were trying to break into the music biz.He also watched them jam back in the 1970's at their home in Washington.
