And how would you like to discuss this?

And how would you like to discuss this?

from the interwebz:

While any forum member can bump a “thread” to its front page, it should be generally exercised within the range of acceptable reasons and purposes, such as to remind others that an important question asked in a dated thread still remains unanswered.[5] Bumping a thread simply for the sake of raising its visibility is generally regarded as spamming.

Any old thread with a contribution from Yours Truly in it is worth raising from the dead, don't you think?

They seem to be generating new discussion, so...

They have generated new discussion and I think revisiting an old thread when there's new information is very important. For instance, I'd rather have old FWIW threads bumped than have one zillion different threads discussing the same aspects of the song, as we have had.

Some of you like new threads because it's too much trouble to read through multiple pages of one thread. I don't agree with that philosophy.

However, thread bumping as a sport, when there's nothing really new to say, except "I liked that," should be discouraged. We have too many of them lately and it makes daily reading of the forum wearying.

Hum I did not know this was spamming.I 'd learn something today.
I always thought spamming was posting unwanted adverts on here also with email.
personally I don't see anything wrong with digging out old threads from the archives and bumping them up life.I rather see this done then having a dozens of threads on the same topic.
It will clean up the forum with less mess of the same topics repeatedly.

I don't agree with a lot of philosophies in sports either.

The TOSOTM thread was a fantastic rediscovery. That's new conversation and discovery - its not wearying to me. We should seek to foster growth and involvement, yes?

My question is -- why does Mohegan Sun have its own thread and the West Coast has no dates at all? This is crazy.

If people want growth and discovery they can go back and read the old threads or the old newspaper articles and interviews and enlighten themselves about FM. They don't need to bump old threads as a past time, especially not when a tour is beginning and we have threads running wild anyway.

I understand .Hehehehehe.It's not my fault that Stevie has not make any west coast dates yet.I hope she does get some west coast dates together for you all out west..Ok if thats a case why's Boston,Jones Beach,Holmdel,Borgata and other Stevie tour stops have a separate threads.I remember the last couple of Stevie tours .Ledgie's wanted a separate threads for each show. The Mods agreed with that. They were not merged into one big thread .I know it clutters the board up.But that what the Ledgies wanted.I'm confused Whats the Mohegan Sun thread that I started have to do with Stevie with no tour dates out west.

Now If the mods don't like the thread bumping and if it's annoying to ledgie's.They will say something to stop it and add to the rules. The Ledge has a easy rule book.I belong to other forums that are very strick about everything. They will ban members for the simpleless problem.

Also Its up the the member. If theres a thread which was bumped up and its seems to be annoying.don't read it.I've done it.

I think this is just a mix-up of words, that's all...

Pastime - pas·time/ˈpasˌtīm/
Noun:
An activity that someone does regularly for enjoyment rather than work; a hobby.
Synonyms:
amusement - recreation - entertainment - diversion - fun

See? For example: His favorite pastimes were shooting and golf.

You said 'past time', because your sense of board order is disrupted by people talking about things that happened in PAST TIMES. Or perhaps it was simply a Freudian autocorrect on your part.

Anyway, we haven't got time for my sarcasm - the threads are running WILD!!! And there's a TOUR STARTING!! Everyone - look serious!

What I think. All of us are board to hell until Stevie hits the pavement in two months.Nevermind sitting at the edge of out seats waiting for tour dates to be annouced plus waiting for a DVD to get released. If It does at all.I can't blame the west coast ledgie's getting hot under the collar in waiting to see if Stevie books west coast dates. In the meantime If I offended anybody on here.I 'm sorry If I did.It is getting nutty here Nathan.I agree.

However, thread bumping as a sport, when there's nothing really new to say, except "I liked that," should be discouraged.I'm a lot more cranky when it comes to starting threads with polls, and then locking the thread when the poll is over. That's ridiculous. The idea of a thread--any thread--is to allow replies. If you don't want any more replies to a poll thread, put the poll results somewhere else on the site and remove the thread. Don't let it sit there for all eternity. If it's locked but left sitting in the forum, that's ridiculous.

And why do very old threads need "new information"? If I want to say something galvanizing or sexy or fascinating about the topic of an old thread, isn't it worth my going ahead and saying so? Old threads never die--so long as people like me are around and want to add something to them.

Everything in moderation. Bumping threads from ten years ago willy-nilly, dozens per day, is poor forum behavior, and illiterate replies of "i like that" or "i agree" are foolish and annoying in any thread, old or new.

I'd rather people bump an old thread to discuss a topic than create an entirely new thread discussing the same topic over and over again. It helps avoid repetition to bump the old thread instead. For instance, I was temped to express my loathing of "Gypsy Beggar" in the "Worst Stevie Demo" thread, but then I saw that I had already done so in 2006 and refrained.

Yes, I love to merge threads when they are repetitive. It not only makes reading easier now, but for archival purposes, if you want to look back on something. It's helpful then too, because we may have had more collective knowledge and information about a subject a few years ago than we do now and it's always good to be able to find everything in as few places as possible.
