From Timespace - The Best of Stevie Nicks (1991) Writers Jon Bon Jovi/Billy Falcon .

I like this tune myself.I had to skip the song at work due to some of the co-workers did not like the word bitch. Love the video with all the old vid clips and photos of her through the years.

First off, I don't I have never been a huge fan of Bon Jovi. I liked Living on a Prayer and that's about it. I think they are sorta generic rock. I like some of the lyrics to song, but it's overproduced and I don't like how she sings it. I also don't like the extra lyrics she adds at the end. Of course I saw Bon Jovi on an interview talk about working with Stevie and they feeling I got was she wouldn't listen to any suggestions. It's ok.

well, i voted dislike... i remember loving this when it came out- the whole NEW music from Stevie thing...and i certainly do like the video.. i don't really dislike it (if i'm listening to Timespace i won't skip it) but it's definetly NOT a song i will suddenly , randomly go - "ooh, i need to hear SIAB" if that makes any sense??? LOL

now if it had been a duet on the other hand, i'd probably like it just because i love her in almost any duet...

I like it fine, it is a good singalong and suits Stevie and the era in which it was done. I have always loathed Bon Jovi, though.

Hmm, dislike isn't strong enough for me ;) But I do love all the clips in the video :) Very nostalgic :)

I just noticed listening to it now...Does Stevie say "Sometimes it's roses and sometimes it's weed?" or "weeds"? It's supposed to be weeds I think but that's not what I heard. Going back to listen again...

oye..... I love the video, but I don't like the song. Call me old fashioned, but I have never like the word "Bitch" in a song.........Especially from STevie....the lyrics did not scream Stevie, they screamed "Bon Jovi...trying to hard!" Not even a good Bon Jovi song, I might add.... Luckily, she got back to her great writing again after Timespace (with the exception of Street Angel)...and gave us beautiful gems like "Moonlight", "Love Is", "Planets of the Universe", "Touched by an Angel"....and many many more....those songs sound like Stevie, and you can hear the love of the song in her voice....it doesn't sound like she is trying for a hit, now just doing it for the love of the music...and if a great hit comes out...even better.

Eh, it's not a fabulous song by any means, and I'll never go "Oooh, you know which Stevie Nicks song I want to listen to / you should really hear?" and say this one. But if it comes up on shuffle I won't skip it... half the time. It's just a sort of... eeeeh song really.

This is a great song and the lyrics fit her life perfectly. Stevie was forced to record this and Love's A Hard Game To Play by her record company. She was appalled at having to use a swear word in the title of a song. I love the video also. More impotantly to me, the cassette B-side in 1991 when it was released contained the awesome song Desert Angel. I had just moved to Phoenix in 1991 and when she sang about living below the great red mountain (Camelback Mountain) in Paradise Valley I was overjoyed because these places were right in my backyard(figuritively).

That's neat.

I love 'castles of candy', and 'I sweeear I could flyyy like an eagllle...'.
I always thought she should do SIAB as an encore, with just her and the piano. I love that loud, thunderous piano in the background of the chorus on the album version. The lyrics should be changed. MY remix is 'sometimes it stays and sometimes it leaves'.

Desert Angel is alright, I like some of the words there too.

I remember hearing on a interview .Stevie was a little shakin' about recording Sometimes its a Bitch because of the word bitch. She was worried about her mother and father getting upset over her using curse words in her tunes.I might be wrong.

This is an atrocious song but I still love it.

The words are as bad as anything any hair band ever wrote. I think they were probably written by a teenage female fan of Bon Jovi who was instructed to write her impression of Stevie Nicks and then mix it up with styles by Ratt and Dokken.

There were always some things I hated about Stevie--her narcissism, her insufferable notion that hers was a tempestuous, grandly romantic life, and the complete absence in her songs of any humor or healthy self-depreciation. And wouldn't ya know, this entire song fits all that crap to a T. "I've cried a river of tears from the pain." Oh, puhleeze.

And who's brilliant idea was it to make the 1991 Stevie Nicks traverse an octave interval on the chorus? I mean ... STUPID.

There's so much eye-popping badness in this one that I just love it! It's precious--it's one of a kind.

These are two atrocious qualities, but I still love them.

her narcissism, her insufferable notion that hers was a tempestuous, grandly romantic life, and the complete absence in her songs of any humor or healthy self-depreciation. That is my Stevie, and all that translated into pumped up drama and maudlin emotion in her music. I absolutely love it and I can relate to these aspects of her persona!

I love it. It might not be the best song she's ever done but I don't care. I have, on many sometimes-it's-a-bitch occasions, blared this throughout my house/car/headphones.

It's one of the few Stevie Nicks solo songs I actually do like. It's not my favourite, but it's not bad.

I think it's good commercial sounding song. But it might have done better if Jon Bon Jovi released it himself as Stevie was in a career slump at the time, and radio wasn't interested in playing anything new by her. :distress:

Sad to say, there's alot of negativity behind the song - it was recorded during Stevie's klonopin haze, she was not keen on doing it in the 1st place but was 'forced' to, it was meant to revive her career but didn't, and I think Stevie had mentioned that she and Jon had disagreements about the recording of the song while in the studio together.

No wonder the song wasn't included in 'Enchanted' ('Blue Denim' wasn't a hit either, but that's in the box set).

I wonder if 'American Idol' judge Randy Jackson (who played bass on the track) was in the studio with Stevie at the time? Or was his part recorded before/afterwards?

I dare anyone to listen to this song and FWIW back-to-back, then come here and tell me FWIW is one of the worst songs she's ever recorded. If you do, then you have objectively bad taste in music. And yes, there is such a thing as objectively bad taste.

I love playing this song because it starts off the "Timespace" album with a bang. I don't care that the song wasn't written by Stevie. Nor did I care what she thinks about this song nowadays. It is a well written Pop/Rock song that should have set the charts on fire back in 1991. I love drums and synth work here and chours is a fun to sing :) Also I must add that my Dad absolutely loves this song and feels its energy (he doesn't know a word in English which probably helps in this case:))

I'm honestly undecided with this song. Personally, I don't think it's very Stevie at all. Neither was "Love's A Hard Game to Play", and I'm still kind of surprised that they decided to include it on a "best of" album. I mean, I understand that collections have new songs - but the new songs definitely should've represented Stevie more.

I felt like those songs were really trying to sound "with the times" (and they did). So they should've been put on something else. Like a compilation album or a Stevie-filler album. Because essentially, that's all they were.

However, with that said - I am torn because they definitely both get stuck in my head from time to time.

So I have yet to vote...

This isn't a very "Stevie" song, obviously, but I can't help but smile whenever I hear it, if only because, well, "sometimes it IS a bitch"...I just like the blunt nature of the lyrics I guess. I would never include it on my top Stevie songs, but it's not terrible.

Well said vivfox! Although I'm jealous that you live in Phoenix. lol

I remember dj's on the radio having some big debate about Stevie using the word "bitch" in a song and saying she had no class. Huh? Seriously dj's? Gimme a break or better yet....give Stevie a break!

I can't even force myself to listen to this song. Truly, truly awful, as were all the new songs on Timespace. I'll let Desert Angel off because I sort of have a soft spot for it, even though it's not a good song. The other two though... Yuck!
