View Full Version : What does Stevie smell like?

AnthonyMI

So I was passing a woman today in her 60s. She was smoking a cig. (eww) She also smelled like a toilet water (too much cheap perfume)

what does Stevie smell like? Do you think she still smokes? If not, does she wear a lot of perfume?

Possibly one of the creepiest questions I've ever heard, only topped by "How regular do you think Lindsey's bowel movements are?"...

Please...Nobody stride over to Stevie and sniff her. It might be misconstrued.

Every now and then a thread pops up on here which leads to a fit of hysterics - this is one of those times! I've wondered a lot about Stevie but never what she smells like

It's ok errrrrybody keep it together. This really isn't a bad question. The poster was just asking if she has a specific scent. I've heard many fans, and just regular reporters who mention smells on celebrities they've met or interviewed. Cher smells like vanilla, and Britney may or may not smell like her own line. No one is going to go stalk her just to smell her. Sorry if it seems as if i'm a little too much, I just don't want this kid thinking he's ridiculous and feel embarrassed.

Agreed--it's far from the creepiest question I've heard on here. If anyone's wondering, the first part of my answer was serious (not that I think the other two are unreasonable guesses...). At least in the SYW era, Cory Buckingham said Stevie used Fracas perfume.

I am quite serious. well, kinda. Just a random thought. Does she smell like an old lady? You now how when you look at old houses and the realtor does not even have to tell you "an old lady lived here till she died" or when you buy a used car and it has that "old lady smell". The kind of smell reminiscent of Grandma's house when you were little? Does Stevie smell like Grandma now? Maybe ben-gay with a hint of dog and some denture (or at least partials) cream mixed with Kools?

It wasn't easy but I knew there was an answer at this place called "The Nicks Fix" http://rockalittle.com/ After making my way through a ton of spider webs and dust I found this. "Ask Lori" http://rockalittle.com/SingerPage/singers/ask_lori.html --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
from Linda in Philadelphia
Hello Lori,
First i like to say i pray Chris is doing better and i will pray for your family. I like to thank you and Stevie for all the years of very up lifting song you do. Stevie is my saving grace and i mean that literally. You sound great Lori. Thank you Both so much. Hugs & Kisses to you all.And do you know what Stevie's favorite perfume is? I was told she loves Beautiful.
Thank You!

Lori's answer:

Thank you, Linda, for your thots... I'm glad that Stevie's music has meant so much to you! To be honest, Stevie doesn't really wear perfume anymore, as she tends to be very sensitive to most. Altho, I am not familiar with "Beautiful," but at one time she used to mix patchouli and musk oils to make her own scent. Now, if she wears any oils or lotions, they are usually gardenia and tuberose scents.

So Stevie smells like flowers and patchouli...So says Lori...

Nothing wrong with asking what she smells like, Jesus people.

I know the old lady smell you're talking about. I suspect that a sizeable chunk of her earnings go toward maintenance and upkeep. That being the case, I believe she probably smells pretty fantastic.

Rumor has it that she bottles her own scents. Or has them made, or something.

Otherwise I'd say cannabis and nag champa would cover it.

Oh, people have talked about her smell before. I remember teasing someone about it, because after a magazine article said she smelled good or something they agreed and I was saying, "Oh no! After the book signing, none of you said she smelled good, so don't jump on the olfactory bandwagon now!" But the people who met her said she smelled good and her hands were all soft and so on.

And one would assume that these things would be so. I don't think anyone expects her to be dry and stinky.

Best guess would be mothballs. Now stop that!

Some old ladies that I have known smelled like tea rose. But in 1994 in a fashion magazine, Stevie talked all about what oils she uses as scent. I don't know one from another (my favorite is cedarwood), but she also said Mick uses oils too.

I bet John smells like Irish Spring mixed with a tantalizing hint of rot gut.

At one time - yes. There was some blurb in a magazine or somewhere about Stevie shopping there for hand cream and candles. It might have been the same article that mentioned her buying lamps at Bed, Bath and Beyond. ?? Anyway, the original shea butter formula is the greasiest...the cherry blossom and vanilla ones are not as greasy, and smell divine!

I don't think it's a weird thread either. Like, if someone wears a certain perfume, you're going to notice it. Debbie Harry smells very sweet, and according to my Uni tutor, so does Kate Bush. I imagine Stevie does smell of flowers and Nag Champa.

What's wrong with wondering what she smells like? Yes, I've read all the posts about what's wrong with it...but I must confess that I have wondered A LOT about what Stevie smells like. I have never considered that she smelled bad...noo way. Why do I wonder what she smells like? Because I want to smell like it too! (if I thought I could pull it off).

I think it’s interesting knowing what kind of things Stevie likes…Wouldn't it be about the same as wearing a crescent moon necklace, or Stevie inspired boho clothes, or platform boots? Or what about that magazine article where Stevie discussed her choice in skin care products and sheets and hot water bottles? Or some article about her favorite candles? I find it all interesting.

If Stevie came out with her own fragrance line, none of you would buy it?

Of course I don't want to know about anyone going through the change or about anything gross related to Stevie!

I appreciate someone asking this question. I'm always worried about asking things on here for fear that yall would give me a hard time about it...please don’t

Hi. My name is Jim. I posted a really long detailed drama about her scent...how I knew...blah blah blah...laptops and androids are not happening keyboards for a 6"1" 195lb guy with hands the size of Utah.

Anyway...she smelled like smoke but only a little bit...maybe because I smoke too. In 1989 October backstage at the Greek in LA. I had a friend that knew someone that knew someone...anyway, we spoke for less than a minute and when I reached down to hug her past the hairspray and makeup smells...she smelled like sweet egyptian musk, sandalwood and this might sound weird...she had the faint smell of something flowery that after all these years I can only compare it to lily of the valley...so, it was sexy, smoky sensual...and a wiff of girly girl flowery...

I met her again for a little longer at her birthday party during Timespace era...when she was leaving after going to the bathroom with the women...returning to her table to have another smoke and finish her Chivas...she was a bit outside her protective circle...nodding to people that recoginzed her...I said, hi...landslide, timespace, mirrored clocks...family...and what are you wearing that's really nice...she said she wasn't sure because she just mixes oils in Neutrogena body oil...so she has a million oils and she said she stays true to the musky stuff. I said, I make my oils too...I base lemon, patchouli, musk and bamboo...so that's it in short...

PS I remember in an interview she said she mixes oils in an almond base...that's probably the Neutogena.

Oh I saw her oil thing before her friends whisked her to the 2 white limos waiting...it was like a little dark potion kind of bottle with the dipper top. I was so not surprised...she's so delicate...even though she had a few...and that was the benzo period whenever she talks to someone...she looks right in your eyes...clear as day and she like touches your cheeks or rubs your palm...so gentle but, unique...I haven't met anyone to date that is that intimately friendly...with her touches...and looks and stories...she seems far out then she'll say excuse me and turns to blow her nose...
I hope this helps
Jim

I've seen many posts in the past where people have remarked after meeting Stevie that she smelled very nice. I've also seen remarks that, believe it or not, she smelled bad but - in my opinion, those are the same people who would cheer a star football player for making an unbelievable last-minute touchdown to win the Superbowl, and then meet him in the locker room right afterward and bitch that he "smelled." Of COURSE he did; he just played in the freaking Superbowl. Same thing with Stevie i.m.o., of course she's gonna need a shower right after dancing her heart out under stage lights in a concert for us.

I have a sneaky feeling this person's big on "Presentation," especially when going out in public. ;)

I would think she smells lovely just like I said. I bet her hair alone gives off the nice scent of shampoo and great styling products.

whenever she talks to someone...she looks right in your eyes...clear as day and she like touches your cheeks or rubs your palm...so gentle but, unique...I haven't met anyone to date that is that intimately friendly...with her touches...and looks and stories...

Jim

this is the same sort of thing people say about Bill Clinton, how when he talks to you he makes you feel like you're the only person in the room and he's very tactile, touches people's arms, holds their hand, whatever.

It was also said to be part of the charm of Jackie Kennedy, especially with men, that she looked right at them and made them feel they were the only two people in the room.

Jim

Nathan was always a popular poster over on Seven Wonders. He doesn't seem to hang around the Ledge as much though. But I always assumed he'd be one to take pride in himself and smelling good and all that just by how he was over there :)

I wear a scent called Blue Jeans, by Versace. I've been wearing it for several years.

Gardenias?
Madonna's new perfume smells strongly of gardenias and wisteria...
I mean almost exactly like real gardenias and wisteria...
There clearly would be a market for Stevie's fragrance! I bet it'd be EXACTLY like gardenias too....

p.s. gardenias and wisteria have always been my favourite flowers

That actually makes sense because when I smelled Madonna's perfume the other day it smelt a LOT like the perfume Fracas, which Stevie reportedly has worn.

as in the skin cream Creme de la mer?

I saw a shirt the other day saying 'blame it on my wild heart' as a slogan and it had no link to Stevie whatsoever :| unimpressed... just to go a little off-topic sorry.

It's strange to imagine Stevie being merchandised in the way other celebrities have, I mean the Kardashians don't really have any other way of making money from their fame other than product endorsement but for now at least Stevie can tour and surely she'll always have enough royalties to sustain an opulent life....

There was that boutique in Beverly Hills that dropped names saying Winona Ryder and Stevie Nicks just GUSH over the Black Gardenia perfume oil. I've never GUSHED in my life!

Gardenias are pretty but, there is a saying in our family...if some perfume, cologne, wall freshener...etc....smells bad, ie old lady perfume....its Jungle Gardenia. As a child...I swear it was pee.

Flower oils are intense and can smell urinish. My guys niece is into Bath and Body Gardenia. I am all like, "Ida...less flower power means less...does she wear depends?"

I know what you are talking about as far as the old lady gardenia smell or the bath and body Gardenia (smells like old lady to me also) but there are some really nice Gardenia scents out their. Black Gardenia by Michele Bergman is nice. It smells nothing like Gardenia candles or Body sprays or little lotions you get in your stocking at Christmas. It is very sweet and strong but very lovely. I ordered a sample once from here:

http://www.luckyscent.com/shop/detail.asp?itemid=24400

Of course I've tried Fracas because I read on Corey Buckingham's blog that Stevie used to wear it. Fracas is a blend of several things, the main scent being Tuberose. Bath and Body works has a Velvet Tuberose line that smells quiet nice, and could give you an idea of the Tuberose vs Gardenia smell.

Of course everyone has different smells they prefer, and sometimes what smells nice on you might stink on me...body chemistry matters.Anyways, I'm no perfume expert, but I've been on my own little journey to find a signature scent.

This is true. Fracas does not work for me. Too sweet.

I LOVE "Stella" by Stella McCartney. I wear it everyday.

Oh Geez. Jungle Gardenia with the palm tree...deep yellow in color...clear bottle. Even in nature....when my lilac bushes are in full bloom...I wish I would just let people in my yard to help themselves to them. They are my favorite....but, lilac candles are a no go. I wear 2 really old colognes and everyone is like, what is that??? Its awesome.! I have smelled my cologne on other sweaty guys back in the day at the gym...and I wanted to hurl. Took me a long time to put it on. Obsession CK was ruined the 2nd day. I did some crazy print work in the late 80s and 90s...I had so much Drakaar and wrinkled clothing and...well, you know.

I don't like to smell like anyone. I always hated the club scene because of the same artificial note in all the colognes for 10 years. I like mossy, woodsy, musk, patoulli...and a sharp contrast like bamboo and grass or lemon and sweet orange...I love that stuff. I also was offered a job at a local earthy crunchy store as I make my own skin products from 100% natural stuff. It was flattering.

Cliffdweller...I have had my 26th birthday almost 14 times....so we wont go all jungle gardenia....hahaha

Even if she still smoked, I don't think she would let herself smell like cigarettes out in public.

If she did, I would wager she was unexpectedly in the vicinity of someone who was smoking near her. I think she could have a multi-pack habit and still make sure that she never smelled of her own smoke. There's a stigma against that now that didn't exist in the old days.

I'm pretty sure I remember reading something where she said she likes Estee Lauder Private Collection- Tuberose Gardenia. I also have it my head that she likes Fracas, I think that came from a thread here on The Ledge.

When I met her for the DVD signing she smelled like she was wearing a fragrance that was light and powdery, like old fashioned dusting powder.

Powder, heh.
