I met her in a gift shop at the sky harbor airport and we chatted for 4 or 5 minutes. We were both reading magazines. She had no idea that I was a crazy fan. She was heading to New York and I had just got home. She was sweet and said she lived in Phoenix (I already knew that) and she said she was just starting a tour (I already knew that). This was the street angel tour and I was amazed how small she was...so tiny , at that point she was supposed to be heavy but she didn't appear that way to me. She was sweet, cute and wrapped in a blanket. That was my Stevie experience!

I think that's really the best kind to have, just a normal, person to person experience :)

i met her briefly at this cd signing situation after her London gig last year, and gave her a note with some personal twisted crap written in there and a red rose, which however was half dead by the time I met her, but I'd like to think she appreciates a dead rose... like I do...

Yes, that is what I would want. I don't want to meet someone as a fan. I want to have something in common with them and strike up a conversation about that. There are some people that I would like to tell how much I admire them, but they aren't people who are stars. They are people who I feel get too little attention, like David Nelson, of Ozzie and Harriet fame. I wanted to say something to him and I did write him a letter. But I would never want to say anything to anyone in FM about FM or their music.
Well, I do have imaginary conversations where I lecture them about things -- but I wouldn't want to do that in real life!

I knew that after all these years of following her music that if I ever had a chance to meet her that I didn't want to say the same old thing....you're music means so much too me....you're the greatest....I knew she has heard that fifty times a day, everyday. Instead, she never knew that I knew every word to every song she has ever sung..lol

I worked in a famous Hollywood hotel for two years and we were instructed to treat the guests like any other guests. It was a very unique place where famous people came to get away from the glitz and glam of the spotlight. I was fortunate to meet many famous people there, many of whom were huge influences in my life or at least people I admired a great deal. And some of my best interactions were when I pretended to not even know who they were and treat them like ordinary people. I had really into Rocky Horror in my 20's when I lived in Pittsburgh and all my friends through the 90's, and the people who got me out to LA in 99, all came from my days at Rocky Horror. So when Richard O'Brien (the creator of the play, the movie and the cult) came to stay with us I was both nervous and ecstatic. But I played it cool and in the end had a really lovely conversation with him that I would have never had otherwise if I had been all crazy fan person. And while Stevie is the one person I've admired over the years, probably the most important celebrity in my life if I had to pick one, that I've never met, I think that's how I would be around her. If I ran into her on the street or in a shop somewhere. I'd pretend not to know her and just casually say hi.
Having said that there is also a very small chance that I would simply go wide eyed, stutter and then pee myself. :o

Ive mentioned my random encounter on here before, i love sharing my story so here is the long version..
Back in 1980 my 2 best friends & were on a 3 week holiday on the Gold Coast here in Aust, we were free spirited 18yr olds, spending most of our time learning to surf, shopping for Stevie style dresses & tops:laugh: & listening to music. My fav song Sara was frequently played on radio, at that time!!!
On this particular day we decided to walk 2km into Surfers Paradise, along the way my friend suggested we should stop at this little cafe, we ordered coffee & crapes then sat at a table on the boardwalk outside. In the distance i noticed a bus cruising along very slowly, i kinda thought it was odd for a bus to be travelling along a quiet narrow street, as it was about to pass us, i happened to look up again when i noticed Stevie looking at us through the bus window. I jumped up & said there's STEVIE NICKS, i took of across the road then to my surprise the bus stopped, & the front door opened. I asked the driver if it would be OK to get Stevie's autograph, reluctantly he said it should be OK, he turned around to ask but i had already made my way up the steps by then:D at that stage my 2 friends were in a line behind me . As i stood there shocked, it was not only Stevie but the whole band sitting at the back of the bus, tho i didn't recognize the good looking guy with the short dark hair sitting in front of Stevie, which of course was Tusk Lindsey it was just them and the driver. I walked in, smiling Stevie in a real friendly voice said Hello to me, she said what is your name, i told her my name, then my friends names. Stupidly I asked what are you all doing here in on the Gold Coast?, she said we have spent the last couple of hours sightseeing, & that you live in a very beautiful place it reminds me of my home town, i said yes it is so beautiful and that we are only here on a 3 week holiday, and that we live in Melbourne, i think she said we have just come from there. Stevie then asked me enthusiastically if we were going to their concert tonight in Brisbane?, i didn't want to sound stupid by saying we didn't even know you were in the country touring, cause we had been spending every day lazying around on the beach, oblivious to whats going on in the world.. so i told a white lie:o, and said yeah of course we are, and i didn't want to disappoint her. She said she will look out for us and the show is gonna be really great we will be playing some incrrredddddible new songs from our latest album, i said we are really looking forward to seeing you too. I felt sooooooooo bad:distress:, i really wished that i had told her the truth that we had no transport to get there, and i felt ashamed that we couldn't afford to buy the tickets:o. Stevie said they had to go now as they have rehearsals in Brisbane at 4pm, we then said our Good byes, i thanked her for stopping the bus and said it was sooo good to meet you:D::wavey: lol..... For the entire time our eyes never moved away , it was weird but it felt like we were the only two people on that bus that day:), i only glanced at the other band members for a brief second... It was the most amazing experience ever!!!, my heart was pounding so hard i thought i was going to have a heart attack any second, not sure how i kept my cool somehow i did tho... till i got off the bus then i turned to jelly... True Story!!!

Thank you for sharing this most wonderful story. I especially enjoyed it because Sara is also one of my favorite all time Stevie songs and my absolute favorite version is from the Melbourne show of the Tusk tour. So to think this happened to you right after that had been performed is like a special little connection for me. So thank you for sharing. :)

Me too! It's one of my favourites.
I met Stevie last summer at the London signing. It's all a bit of a blur really. I remember that I got quite upset in the line - I was just completely overwhelmed that I was going to actually meet her. Once I got to the front, my rehearsed speech went completely out of the window. I was pretty shell shocked - but she handled it like a pro, obviously used to people acting a little odd when meeting her. All I can remember is telling her that I've been listening to her music since I was little. She thanked me, but her main concern was the sunburn on my neck from the concert the day before (it had been extremely hot and I had sat out in the sun all day to get a good spot!)
Anyway, was a great weekend. One I'd like to re-live. Oh and you think Stevie looks good in photos? She's even more beautiful in real life - and so tiny too!

Thank you Poet, Laces & Vivfox, tho its fascinating to think why on earth did The Band hire an ordinary bus, and not hire a limo? but most intriguing is the fact they were alone together on the bus, without their friends or partners. I read CAH book recently and mentioned that she arrived in Melbourne or Sydney and that she was in Brisbane too... So I wonder why their circle of family and friends were not invited? on this so called ""sightseeing"" trip!!! The plot thickens...

So envious of anyone who's met the Queen of Rock n'Roll. I did make eye contact and shared a smile with her at a concert on the Behind the Mask Tour, if that counts as meeting :) Met Lindsey after a concert in TO back in '93, albeit briefly, was nice to shake his hand and say good job!.

This is how I almost met Stevie. I had been going to concerts of both Stevie and Fleetwood Mac since 1979 on a pretty regular basis and was a huge fan.
I lived in San Diego in the late 80's, and I believe it was in the summer of 1990 that Fleetwood Mac Behind the Mask tour was going on. I went to San Diego State to see the show with a friend who wasn't a huge fan, but we had a great time.
After the show we hung around and noticed a couple of big buses parked by the side of the performance area. They were up against a long hedge, but there was enough room that you could walk single file between the hedge and bus. We decided to go for it, so we walked right up to where the first bus was parked. There were only about 8 other people standing around a side walk area and a few directly across from us. My friend was in front of me and we were right by the door to the bus. If there was security, I don't remember. We waited for about 30 mins and somebody came out of a tent that had been playing percussion and was friendly, but I had no idea who he was, then Rick Vito came out, said hello and was talking to one of the other people hanging around.
A little while later, out comes Stevie. She looked so small and frail, but her clothes were out of this world beautiful! She was flanked by a couple of people who looked like they were assistants. A few people standing around there asked her for autographs, but she just kept her head down and ignored them. Then she walked toward the bus door, where, as I mentioned before, my friend was standing in front of me. I wanted to play it cool and had just started to say something, but Stevie was still looking down, and then suddenly my friend reached out and PATTED HER ON THE BACK and said "good show." !!! She looked up at ME (I wanted to say "it wasn't me!!!") with this stunned look on her face and got right on the bus and we were shooed away very quickly.
I was not happy with my friend for several years, lol....and it was sad because Stevie didn't seem at all like I had expected.
Finally, last summer I got a double hand shake AND eye contact on the Edge walk and it was exactly like I had expected and now my life is complete, lol. Really though, it was pretty cool after all these years.

Though I've never met anyone from Fleetwood Mac, I've met a lot of famous people over many years, sometimes without knowing it. Quite a few I've met in Portland, OR. And when I visit friends in LA it's not so surprising to run into familiar faces.
I work at the Sundance film festival every year, so I come in direct contact with lots of well-known people - actors, producers etc.. Yet because I don't really follow that industry closely, I often have no idea who they are, though the name may be familiar. I always say that someone who was a real movie buff would kill to have my position.
I'm not easily starstruck. They are just flesh and blood like the rest of us, but with better clothes and makeup. I've noticed that my polite indifference to them often makes them more approachable. While they appreciate the gushing fandom, I think they really more open when someone interacts with them in a respectful, normal manner.
But that doesn't mean I wouldn't be completely tongue-tied if I ran into Stevie in a store or somewhere. But then I wouldn't blather to her about my die-hard worship -- she's heard that a million times. I would try to stay composed, and talk to her like I would any friend or...legend!

i met our Priestess in the Houston Hobby airport the day after her concert at the Woodlands. i was in the airport gift shop picking up something for my mom. at one of those book rounders i heard " have you read any of the Zane Gray novels?" my throat dropped!! i knew the voice instantly!!! i was 19 or 20 at the time, became atypical babbling incoherent fan.
i told my friend "uhhhh do you realize who is in here with US?"
her head peeked around the books. she was completely warm, engaging, sweet... we chatted a few minutes. i remember asking why she was touring without a record. she told me it was a record co. thing.
i melted completely..... she walked out of the gift shop with a teddy bear (apparently leaving an asst. behind to pay for it)
my friend slapped me back to earth.,.... convinced me to follow/stalk her to her gate. she was eating, but i got the nerve to approach and ask if i could have a pic or autograph... she said it was up to me or both. not wanting to be pushy i settled for pic. one of her attendants said NO pics. she asked if i wanted a pic and i said "please"! my friend took a pic of me n Stevie.
to me, the coolest thing was sloughing off her handler and taking the pic after all.

My Stevie meeting was in Reading, PA at the Sovereign Center (TISL tour). My friend, blackcat, had backstage passes and asked me to go with her (we were in a group of about 6? I'm too lazy to count). I was very nervous about the whole thing and she had been backstage before and told me there was no chance of actually meeting Stevie because she was known to disappear right away. We would actually just see the backstage atmosphere and meet the band. Well, this was a brand new venue. IIRC, Stevie was the first performer there. Concert was great. I was not sitting with blackcat so I zoomed on over to where she was. We went to security and they were kind of at a loss as to where we should go.
So, they managed to make us climb a few things and then we somehow ended up directly behind the stage. One security person asks another where we should go...the answer "I dunno." "Stay here," they say, and off they go to find yet another security person to find out where the heck to bring us. I'm just looking at all their equipment when blackcat says to me, "Hmmm...that's never happened before." And I ask her what and she said Stevie's bodyguard was in the hallway and Stevie is never far away. When I look in the direction she points, not only is there a dude there, but all of a sudden, there is a small entourage...and Stevie is right there walking along with these people and her two dogs! They are coming RIGHT in our direction.
So, they come by us and blackcat manages to speak coherently, and tell Stevie she's wonderful, show was great, etc....and I'm standing there, trying to remember my name. Stevie is standing directly in front of me and I'm just...not responding. And, finally, Stevie moves her hand a bit and I finally come to (some of ) my senses and grab it and just manage to croak out a "thank you so much..." (which was FAR from the half hour speech in my head) and she smiled and then they were on their way.
Right after, the security guard came and took us to a meet and greet area. There were fans already in there who had not seen Stevie at all. So, our meeting was definitely special and all a matter of random timing.
I remember we went back to the parking lot and talked for an hour with our buddies (all former/present Ledgies) and it was a magical evening.
I just never forget her kindness because she could easily have walked away from me but she seemed to get that it was important for me to have my moment and I was too flummoxed to move!
By the way, the minute she left, I came to my (animal-loving) senses and wondered if I should make an attempt to pet her dogs. I'm glad I didn't. I'm sure security (or Stevie) would have broken my bones!

I have loved reading these stories!
My friend Bob & I have met Stevie twice... first time was after an Indianapolis Fleetwood Mac show in the bar at the Canterbury Hotel (behind the mask tour). She was hanging out & talking... smoking (benson & hedges menthols!)... looking for a place to stamp it out...I held out an ashtray for her and her first words spoken to me were "why thank you, darling!". I about died right there! She said she wanted to have a seat and told us to come over to their table to have our stuff signed. She flipped through my tour book to her page and said "just look at those eyes... have you ever seen such sad eyes?". I was just so starstruck I could barely talk... but told her I thought her eyes were beautiful... so she signed that page and the back of my cigarette carton (it was all I had!)... and that is the pic in my sig below (the one on the left says "to Kim~ All my love", the other says "to Kim~ Dreams & love")
The 2nd time we met her was in Kansas City on the Street Angel tour, again in the bar after the show. She was sitting there with the whole band (sans Sharon). Earlier in the night during the Edge walk, Bob had given her the Ankh pendant he was wearing... when she came back out to sing HAEWAFY, she had it on... and again in the bar... after we told her that Bob was the one who gave her the necklace, she said "I can't believe you are here... this is such a coincidence... I had been talking about Egyptian Ankhs all day". She launched in to a story about her Grandfather (I wish I could remember these details, but by this point I was a puddle!). As we wrapped up the conversation she thanked us for staying by her side through the years and gave us both big hugs. It was unspoken between Bob & I that we would not ruin this experience by asking for an autograph. As a side note, about 6 months later there was a picture of her in Allure magazine attending a Grammy Awards party and she was wearing the Ankh!!!!
We have been so fortunate and I hold these experiences so close to my heart. Only fellow Stevie people can truly understand! I must say that I thank God that Bob is in my life and understands this whole Stevie thing as I do... definitely blessed!

I would have been stunned if my friend did that! A step away from a pat on the butt and saying "good game, Nicks".
Ahhh I am so jealous of all of yall who've met her! These stories are awesome, keep 'em coming!

So you got to meet Stevie in her perm days. in her young days. Gah! That's so cool! I would love to meet her like that.

Yeah Stevie's hair was permed at the time, but not too wild. Perms look so much nicer & more kinda natural looking after a week or 2. Well that was the effect i was after at the time:o lol..
Like i mentioned before, that i still cant understand why they hired a normal bus, and not a limo..I also find it very strange that they did not include their entourage of family and friends on this so called ''sightseeing'' trip.
I probably shouldn't mention this, but what the heck:eek: i was sooooo tempted to ask if they felt like sharing a joint, as i had one already rolled. Now that would of been an interesting scenario:lol:, i stopped myself from asking cause the other band members had an unfriendly vibe going on, unlike Stevie as she was happy to chat

I met Stevie Nicks when she was touring with Tom Petty in 2006. Actually I worked at the arena she stopped at and my job was to guard her all night. I got to meet her on the dock and walk her, her assistant and two little dogs from the car to her dressing room. I remember when I first got her off she had her hair in cullers, she told me “I do not want any one taking pictures of me until I am ready” I said ok and escorted her to her room. Just as we go there though a newspaper photographer took her pic and she got mad. I made sure he erased it and escorted him out of the area. I stood at her dressing room all night even after the show till about 1:30am. Tom Petty came to her dressing room before the show and they shared a little moment before hitting the stage. I remember her family coming down to visit her (Brother and Mom, nieces and nephews) they had a little party after the show. I remember she got a drawing too can’t remember what it was but she really liked it. She was very sweet and very polite to me. She shook, my hand and I so wanted to ask for an autograph but you can’t do that when you’re working. When all was done I escorted her back to her SUV and thanked me for welcome there and left. I was in awestruck the whole time and out of all the celebrities I have worked with there have only been two I was in awe with.

I met her backstage in Camden, NJ during a radio sponsored Meet and Greet. The whole expereince went by fast but I will never forget how close she stood to me and how she looked me right in the eyes. I was excited but freaked out and tougue-tied. :) This was in 1998, during the Enchanted Tour.

I met Stevie and FM at a party in a hotel in Austin, TX after a Halloween concert in 1982. Stevie put on a witches hat and long nails, which was appropriate for the occasion. I met Stevie again in 1998 or 1999 after a concert in Phoenix on the Enchanted tour. Oh, yeah Mick and Don Henley were there too.

I met her with my mom, sister , and twin brother. It was last year backstage at the Oprah show. She hugged both matt and myself and then gave each of us a photo of hers which she autographed. Then she gave us the drawing and the story about Robin. She signed this as well. Then we got a group photo with her and Oprahs people took a photo ofvmatt and Stevie and one of Stevie and I chatting.

LOL there has actually been a lot since I work at the arena, but it was Madonna. I met her durring the Confessions Tour, she was very nice and sweet. A little loud at times but very very professional and she was one of the few that I remember saying hi, bye and actually talking to me a couple of times whileshe was doing her sound check and coming in and out of the arena. Acutally I had a chair to sit in cause its very long hours when working those events and every time she came out I would stand. She told me at one point, "Stop doing that Valentine, you making me Fu#king nervouse. " LOL She was smiling the whole time. Steve Nicks was the same by the way I would stand for her also, and she said something about being a gentalmen. It was kind of loud in the arena. Oh yeah Stevie did lots of interviews when she came here also and I was with her durring all of them. Man those are very very boring.

I have come to the conclusion that I really do not want to meet Stevie, as a fan. If I met her in a totally unplanned way, I would love it. But backstage would make me uncomfortable, I think.

You know, when I was younger, I wanted nothing more than to meet Stevie. Or, if I'm being honest, I wanted nothing more than to run away and join the traveling circus I imagined Stevie's life to be -- a magical world where we would be best friends, and maybe make out a little, and I would never be lonely and always be understood. I would have skipped school and camped out on the sidewalk in front of a Barnes & Noble, or done the backstage thing, if I could. I would have warned myself I would probably be disappointed, because I wasn't completely delusional, but I would have gone ahead and done it anyway.
A couple years ago, I heard she was doing a signing a few blocks from my office, and I briefly considered blowing off work to go down there -- but, honestly, what could I possibly say to her? What could she possibly say to me? My relationship is with her music, not with her. And while music can be there whenever I need it, and know me like know one else knows me, and never ask for anything in return, Stevie can't do those things, because Stevie is a person, and she has her own needs.
I mean, if I randomly ran into her and she was like, "Hey, let's demolish a bag of Cheetos and then blame it on the Yorkies so no one knows what pigs we are, and we'll gossip about what a tiny tiny pink baby Lindsey Buckingham is, and also you can totally make out with me if you want," I wouldn't turn the girl down. But meeting her at a signing or something? I just can't imagine what I would even get out of it.

i've posted this one before when it happened, but it was ended up being such a dope experience for me and i was just commenting about it in a previous thread that i thought i'd re-share it. :)
http://ledge.fleetwoodmac.net/showpost.php?p=1009824&postcount=288
so, i wanted to post my Amoeba/Stevie Nicks experience!
first things first: i'm sort of a "newb" in comparison to most of the folks here on this board, and probably in comparison to the majority of the other folks who were at the signing as well, but i discovered Stevie and Fleetwood Mac about umm... 9 weeks ago now?
i'd bought the 2 disc FM Best Of... when i was in college back in 2002 because I lived in a house of girls who just were bat-sh** in love with FM and after buying it, for whatever reasons, I don't think I really listened to it, i just didn't get into it at the time.
anyhow, cut to the middle of June of 2011, and I'm now living in los angeles. I went to my parents house to visit, and my brother had placed my old CD's in the middle of my bedroom for me to clean or get rid of. the first CD on top of that pile was that "Best Of FM..." and me, being me, thought: "Oh! I should bring this back to my apartment and download it onto my external hard drive. One never knows when this music might come in handy..." and on my drive to my apartment, I started listening to it, and it's basically been obsession-ville ever since. when i say obsession-ville, btw, i mean that in the most intense (but not scary) way possible.
a week into my obsession, i saw on youtube this posting by SuperFleetwoodMac of the 1982 Mirage Tour of Sisters of the Moon(LaserDisc), and it was EPIC. i kept looking for more current performances of the song and couldn't find any, but it didn't really matter much because that performance was so awesome. i think i literally watched that performance at least once a day for WEEKS. told anyone who would listen to me talk about it, would show it to people (strangers, even). i mean, i couldn't believe that people rocked like that back then - she was so "tapped in" during that performance of that song, and it was just inspirational for me, and made me want to be as emotionally available in what *I* do.
anyhow, so of course, the signing happens, and i just had to be there. i met a bunch of awesome people, and one guy told me about this board, and it was actually really cool getting to obsess with people who shared my obsession.
when it was my turn to go and have her sign my CD, i'd had my post-it in the middle page with the 4 images of her, and Stevie says: "Well, looks like Kim knows what she wants!" and i replied: "I sure do!"
right before she started to sign my CD, i'd just really wanted to talk to her about that specific performance, and i knew of no slick way of bringing it up so i just blurted out: "I just want you to know that your 1982 performance of Sisters of the Moon from the Mirage Concert Tour absolutely blows my mind!"
she looked up from the CD at me and smiled, she then looked over at the girls to her left, and said "You know, it's funny that you mentioned that, because I did an interview with Jim Ladd a couple of days ago and he brought up thatexact performance of that song as well..."
"Really?" and of course, i'm hardcore freaking out because it's happening. we're talking about SOTM, and i'm dying inside because i'm just so thrilled.
"Yeah," she continued. "we were listening to the song, and it's a good one!"
"I know!" i replied.
"You know, I don't know why we don't do that song anymore..."
"Oh, why not? you totally should!" the idea of her performing that song live now? oh, holy sh*t!
"Well, some songs just fall out of rotation, you know?" She then finished signing my CD, and then doodles a little bit on the front of the CD cover, and hands it back to me. takes my hand in hers and very sincerely says "Thank you so much."
i curtsey, because how else does one respond to a queen? and said: "No, thank you! Absolutely, thank you!"
and then i left. the experience was more than i'd hoped for.

i met our Priestess in the Houston Hobby airport the day after her concert at the Woodlands. i was in the airport gift shop picking up something for my mom. at one of those book rounders i heard " have you read any of the Zane Gray novels?" my throat dropped!! i knew the voice instantly!!! i was 19 or 20 at the time, became atypical babbling incoherent fan.
i told my friend "uhhhh do you realize who is in here with US?"
her head peeked around the books. she was completely warm, engaging, sweet... we chatted a few minutes. i remember asking why she was touring without a record. she told me it was a record co. thing.
i melted completely..... she walked out of the gift shop with a teddy bear (apparently leaving an asst. behind to pay for it)
my friend slapped me back to earth.,.... convinced me to follow/stalk her to her gate. she was eating, but i got the nerve to approach and ask if i could have a pic or autograph... she said it was up to me or both. not wanting to be pushy i settled for pic. one of her attendants said NO pics. she asked if i wanted a pic and i said "please"! my friend took a pic of me n Stevie.
to me, the coolest thing was sloughing off her handler and taking the pic after all. hey where is the pic? I would love to see it as I met her during Timespace era. Thanks, Jim
