I was wondering why a beautiful woman such as Stevie has dated....uh well...some not so attractive men.
Okay, so Lindsey was the exception to the rule, but...
Mick Fleetwood
Jimmy Iovine
Joe Walsh
Rupert Hine (?)
Yikes!....

Although I would never dane to call Mick "ugly" (Well...maybe during his Uncle Fester period) I am so glad you didn't add Lindsey to this list lol.
Honestly. I would have been concerned for your safety.

Yes, I think she likes people she perceives as talented. Then, once you love someone, you think they're attractive anyway. When she said her brother was handsome, I don't think she was being kind. I think she believes Chris Nicks is gorgeous. She may have realized that Waddy was ugly when she first met him, but I wouldn't be surprised if she considers him quite handsome now. Heck, I think Mick is gross a lot of the time, but after all these years of being an FM fans, I truly see beauty there on other occasions.

I always thought Mick was hideously ugly until this century. Now I actually see him as an attractive man. Rupert Hine is hideously ugly, period. However, I haven't seen a pic of him past 1989. I often have thought that I wish I could look past a cute face and into the soul of a man. Truthfully I am so tired of searching for love that I wish I would wake up one morning and never again be concerned with how cute a guy is and really fall for someone I truly LIKE being with. But it will probably never happen. I don't know if it's a gay guy thing or not but cuteness always seems to be the number one factor in a relationship for me in deciding if I want a man or not.
Back on topic, because this thread is about Stevie, I've often thought that a woman would be with a homely man because he could take care of her needs financially and in Stevie's case that he could help her become more successful somehow.

I don't think Mick's looks have improved this century. Your change of view probably has more to do on what's happened to you on the inside, than what's happened to him on the outside.
And for me, voice alters my perspective too. Obviously, Mr. Wonderful and Heroes are Hard to Find album covers give me nightmares. But sometimes when I hear Mick's clipped, dulcet tones in an interview, I'm kind of charmed. His sound makes him look nicer. Then, again his personality causes him to lose the ground he's gained. I think of the guy who proposed to a woman who just got out of bed with another man and I'm repulsed all over again.

Yes. Mick mentioned that even though Rhiannon was a hit from the start and he also told her how important she was to Over My Head's success, Stevie was still insecure about her place in the band. I have no doubt that part of her attraction to him was the fact that he was the head of the group in which she wanted to solidify her claim. If Lindsey made any move to push her out, aligning with Mick would give her the power needed to fight back. Of course, I feel she did the same thing in Fritz. She'd have had a 40 year love/hate relationship with Bob Aguirre if she thought he had the potential to go places back then.
We gravitate towards those who might offer us security, career wise, home wise, financially and it's not necessarily a calculated thing. It's often instinctive. Just the way you start nesting when a baby is on the way. You are physically and emotionally drawn to things that might bring you comfort and stability.

I wonder when she was done with that? When did she feel she was independent enough to not have to seek a relationship with a man based on her need to secure her place in a band or use them for career advancement?
Good thing she realized that Lindsey could do greater things than Fritz. Otherwise, maybe they would still be in San Francisco singing in steakhouses...

Sorry I can't find an episode where Mick proposes to Sara, nor a description about jumping to Mick's bed after proposing. He did tell she moved to his home (circa 1978 or Tusk recording days) when she was still married (did you mean this?), but Mick & Sara got married in 1988, far later:
And I'm most happy to say we're friends with Lindsey again. He came to the wedding when Sara and I married under a marquee outside our house in Malibu in the spring of 1988. Later that year we dedicated Fleetwood Mac Greatest Hits to him, with much love.
Did you mean about Sara being married and living with Mick? Or did I missunderstand?

Oh yeees, now I found it:
When Sara left, she had moved into her own place in Marina Del Rey, but she wasn't there. Then I heard on the Fleetwood Mac grapevine that Sara was in Hawaii with a boyfriend. This concept made me so queasy that I flew to Maui, arriving in time to practice in the afternoon with the Fleetwood Mac softball team, which was seeing action that night. John McVie and I were in the outfield. "Looking for Sara?" he asked contemptuously. I gulped. "You'll find her over at my house with . . ." And McVie named one of the dashing technicians on our crew. My heart did a backward flip! I dropped my glove and drove over to McVie's. I knocked on the door, but there was no answer. So I went in and knocked on the bedroom door. "Wait a minute," Sara said.
She came out in a robe; she and this guy had been asleep. She was very angry with me. I got down on my knees, told her I was sorry, and asked her to marry me.
"Mick," she said, "you must be really out of your mind. I'm not marrying you."
I told her the whole story of the Blob, and Sara laughed in my face. "You jerk," she said.
She was right, so I groveled. I swore I'd be good. I swore I'd reform and not be crazy. I swore I'd take care of her. She said she'd think about it, and eventually I left. In the end, she came home.

Good nominee, but I bet John McVie wouldn't be so keen to let Curry hang out at his place as a house guest after all the making love fun Curry had been doing with certain other people.

Well, i'm a girl and i think that Jimmy Iovine is kinda cute, except for the terrible haircut and eyebrows problem. He has a great smile. I like him in this video where sings Blue Lamp in the studio.
Mick is not too ugly either, he's got something.

speaking from experience, yes, gay men are shallow. It goes like this...
1. Looks
2. Sex
Once the looks or sex slow down or fade, or better yet someone better looking or with better sex comes along, you are dumped... That is just how gay men are. That or they realize they are not even good friends, incompatible, hate eachother or some stupid reason. This is why lesbians joke about the second date they call the Uhaul or gay men joke that the second date means they are in a long term relationship or cant make it past 4 years. These things just are not like real relationships that usually begin as friends or lovers and "Blossom" into something more real. In fact, I have been turned down by acquaintances and friends I asked for a date because they "dont date friends". Seems like a stupid rule. Basically it is saying "I only date one night stands that I want to have a series on on going one night stand with". The relationships that mean something are the ones that are based on friends and something past the initial "OMG he is SO cute". Sadly, Stevie's one or two or three "True" loves were either drug addicts, pigs, or too famous to be held down. Maybe she is flawed too, putting her career(s) first etc etc.
If you want to be happy for the rest of your life, make an ugly woman (or man) your wife (or husband). Trust me... us ugly people are WAY more appreciative and try much much much harder to please. ;-)

I don't think all gay men are shallow and I'm definitely not superficial. I find all different types of men sexy or beautiful in different ways and someone doesn't have to be the most drop dead gorgeous in the face to be sexy. I create threads all the time showcasing what I find nice in someone and it's really about the different attributes I find sexy in men. They're examples, bits and pieces if anything. For instance I couldn't get over the movie Joshua the other night on Showtime (it's also on Showtime demand HD, at least on Comcast down here) and I have always found something so sexy in Tony Goldwyn, even though he might not be beautifully handsome in the face, I find him so adorable and manly, hunky. And such a nice mouth too. :)

When Lindsey wrote "packing up, shaking up is all you wanna do" I wonder who he might be referring to. Was Walter Egan one of them? It seems she goes mostly for fellow musicians - those we know because of their fame. Surely there must be some who aren't famous. Has she ever dated an actor?
She recently made it known that she had a romance with someone she met in Italy. I keep thinking it was some rich old bloated Italian man. But I'd like to think it was a younger good-looking guy.

In her interview with Cynthia McFadden it's said that when she was on the road she would pull into town, "break a few hearts" and move on.... I remember another interview where something was said about waiters.... Does anyone have that?
With regard to the men mentioned, I think Stevie is addicted to drama. So many of her relationships (not necessarily the one night stands) involved huge amounts of drama.... LB, Mick, Rupert, Joe, Kim, etc ... Part of her loves the drama and loves using that to feed songwriting

Actually, I put a great deal of thought into this, if you ever get to Chicago you'll get a chance to meet the Sallow Gays. Though it's true in most big metropolitan areas, ask any younger gay man....the prettier the gay man the more superficial they are. sorry, it's true.

Has everyone here been in love with a man or woman that everyone else thinks is attractive? Remember- Love's a state of mind!
I bet Stevie thought Joe was the most precious thing she ever saw when she was in love with him. If she saw him across the room, probably not a well lit room, and fell in love with him instantly...well there must have been some sort of soul connect...that feeling you get when you see into someone...when you aren't just looking at them, when you are looking inside of them...I suppose I always find myself comparing my personal experiences to those of Stevie’s (because that's what got me hooked on her in the first place- those similar feelings and connections that- in my mind at least- we share). But I fell in love with a man like that once. We just made eye contact, looked in to each other, and I swear , I was in love. It was very powerful, and something that was stronger than anything else I've ever felt. I would have given my life for that man...anything...he could have it.
Sometimes it's just timing...the right place, lighting, angle of the face, amount of cocaine, booze, that a connection is made. When you're in love, you may not even see, or care, that they aren't actually attractive (to the rest of the world at least).
But eventually, it probably shocked the hell out of Stevie that she fell in love with a man that wasn't as pretty as her...I mean, when that sort of thing happens, and you just can't fight it because of the connection, do you even notice that one of you is prettier than the other? The love shared makes them more beautiful than anything else in the whole world right then.
Of course, sometimes you can have it all!!! Maybe Lindsey could have been her all. And sometimes you have it all wrong - errrr, Rupert. Stevie was having some self esteem issues during that time, I will forgive her for that.
Mick- well I can see that happening, he's looked somewhat attractive at different times (being the most handsome now!) he just always looked like he smelled bad. Now not so much.

I agree with the sentiment.
But the whole ~love at first sight thing with Joe Walsh (as in, the story of her seeing him for the first time from across the room somewhere) has never made any sense to me, because Stevie had known and been hanging out with the Eagles at least 7 or 8 years prior. Unless maybe she saw him across the room, didn't recognize him, and then fell in love.

I agree with what you said about her knowing him previously but that 1st day of the Wild Heart tour when he boarded that airplane and she looked up at him, she claims it was love at first sight. Maybe she saw him in a special light that particular day like she had never pictured him previously and that moment for her was magic.

She recently made it known that she had a romance with someone she met in Italy. I keep thinking it was some rich old bloated Italian man. But I'd like to think it was a younger good-looking guy.
She did? Who, what? Since we have the where. Oh when?[/QUOTE]
She mentioned it when she was discussing the inpiration for the song Italian Summer.
She had recently spent long vacation there and implied that she met someone. That's all I know.

I wonder if it's because Stevie is and was just so beautiful. People find it interesting that someone that beautiful could be attracted to men who are (in their eyes) not in her league.
I was in a long term relationship with someone who was really not traditionally attractive, at all. Actually when I first met him, I had NO attraction to him whatsoever. But then we became great friends and before you knew it, I was totally in love.
My husband is very handsome and most people would agree about that. However, if something were to happen to make him less handsome, I would still love him and wouldn't think twice about it.

For me, I find that my opinion of someone's looks changes with familiarity. So, I might not stop being shallow, but my shallow judgments shift. When I come to know and like someone, they become more attractive physically.

agree, nothing wrong with little shallowness... life has to be fun too :D
i am somewhat surprised by people preaching about shallowness in the forum where huge number of posts tend to contain swooning over how beautiful SN is. double standard maybe?! woman's looks can be discussed infinitely but man's looks should not be discussed b/c for men what's inside is important? :lol

I was looking at Viv's signature pic and thinking of how there are just some men that women gravitate to and their looks are inconsequential. Sonny Bono's face was not conventionally handsome, he had a high, nasal voice, and he was short, but Cher said that women were always crazy about him, even when he was dead broke (as he was in 1964 when Cher met him).
Some people possess an indefinable magnetism. Sometimes, it's charisma, but sometimes it's something less polished than that, but no less intriguing.

What I don't get is how it comes up a million times in other threads and it's been a general consensus, but a thread gets created out of fun and suddenly it's a serious offense to point out some of her choices were somewhat lacking in the looks department?
But, Michele is on to something - Stevie must have finally determined Joe Walsh's personality was overwhelmingly attractive and that's why she claimed to have fallen in love with him "at first sight" when she actually had known him for years. What an epiphany that was.

She said the same thing about having an instant love for Rupert Hines.

This reminds me of a Curb Your Enthusiasm. Larry decided that men with ugly wives must have a lot of integrity and are more trustworthy than men with attractives wives.
I would not say that these women are "ugly" at all, but I do think people like Patti Sialfa, Linda McCartney and Yoko Ono are not as attractive as people would have expected them to be.

I agree with that. Oh, and they are actually the same age which is kind of rare for the rocker dude. (Ahem...Tom Petty, Steven Tyler, our Lindsey just to name a few).
Which brings to mind another topic...who could you imagine Stevie dating now? Anybody, single, married, old, young, just anything goes? I would start a thread on this but...I won't.
Mine would be Adam Levine. Oh weeee, I could just eat that man up. He could be Stevie's leather. Of course she'd probably never go for it...but what if??

I hate to say it, but I suspect JBJ may have been a smidge too pretty for Mama's tastes. She appreciates a "funny face" - a face that is not classically handsome, but has some kind of exaggerated feature that makes him endearing in an almost comical sense. For example, I am convinced that Stevie loved Jimmy's unibrow. She loved Mick's bulging eyes and brobdingnag height. She loved Joe Walsh's schnozzola. She loved Rupert Hine's pointy (like a stilletto) chin, just as much as she loves Dave Stewart's lack of a chin. I'd like to think her aesthetic palate is not mainstream, and that she can find beauty in the most unexpected places.

True. And I don't mean this in a nice, "I see the goodness in all people" way, because I am so not that person, but actually once you know a person, even if your initial impression of them was that they were unattractive, when you start to be drawn to their personality, their physical looks change in your eyes.
It works the other way around too. If they look good on the surface, but then you realize they are sloppy, crude, or stupid, they are soon not going to be as physically appealing as you thought they were at first glance.

I don't know if it's because I'm a woman. I bet a lot of men feel the same way. When I see a guy who I thought was attractive do something gross, then after that, he doesn't look so hot to me.

I feel the same way. I might be able to still acknowledge that the person is objectively good looking (if they are), but my attraction can be completely extinguished.

I love the girl to death but she said it herself-she KNEW that she wanted to be a rock and roll star. And I think that she would have hooked up with the Creature From the Black Lagoon if he could've gotten her there.Stevie is very smart and knows how to work the system. It seems that she always has an ulterior motive for her actions but, because she is "something of a dreamer", she adds the romance factor in to validate her actions....she sure is a Gemini!!!
