Unfortunately, the great Etta James died today from complications from leukemia - and rest in peace. Now, at the link below, there are musings of an Etta James tribute at the upcoming Grammy's and a list of some contenders from the reporter's point of view. And our sweet girl wasn't included, go figure.

We all know that Stevie did a heartstopping rendition on James' At Last in 1998:

Any thoughts on how Stevie might tackle this song in 2012? I think that she'd still be able to do a pretty knockout job...especially the killer last note. The song is mostly in a lower register, anyhow - and I still think it's perfect for her.
Even if she has/had been approached for this gig (hate to say it, but not likely...who besides diehard fans even know about her live version of At Last?), I wonder if she would be up for it.
Incidentally, I think it's one of the best songs that she has ever tackled...period.

It's really sad that they don't take Stevie into consideration. I say HUGE NO! to overrated Celine Dion. I don't want a Diva-esque and overdramatic take on Etta James' classic. This legend needs a proper tribute. I am pretty sure that they will choose Beyonce but I think that Stevie and Cyndi Lauper (which did amazing cover of "At Last") should also appear on the stage. But as we all know Academy doesn't respect Stevie too much, so it won't happen.

Etta was furious at Beyonce for performing her song at the Obama inaguration. Etta made that anger public. For Beyonce to be asked to sing it now would be akin to dancing on Etta's grave.

Ive always loved that version of At last by Stevie - it suits her perfectly, and it has to be said that when she does a cover she does it brilliantly well and in her own style.

Etta's sons have said that her reaction to the inaugural was spurred by her dementia. Having relatives with dementia myself, I honestly don't think that that the periodic bursts of anger are generally representative of their true feelings.
I think Beyonce would be a fine choice. JMO, as always.

Probably have the new crop of talent to do the tribute to Etta. That will be a longshot if Stevie get invited I have nothing against Beyonce .I'm not into her music.Less the Grammys have a collaberation of women artists from all generations perform "At Last".
