Cool! That's good news. It's probably good for Stevie to immerse herself in her work after losing her mama. I hope some great music (and some catharsis for Stevie) comes from this.

Stevie has a pattern of turning to 'Doctor Work' in difficult times and it may be that this is another such occasion. Whatever happens, though, it'll be fine with me as long as it's the right thing for her.

Not sure if I believe it could be out by the summer but I am very happy she now seems to have regained her muse as a recording artist. In fact I would not complain at all if she put out a new album a year until her own projected retirement age of 70 .No need to mount any health wrecking and no longer financially lucrative tours behind them either IMHO.

Hopefully, with Dave Stewart's influence, she will actually make good on this proclamation.

With In Your Dreams, he certainly made her realize that, with a particular work ethic, an album can be created in a reasonably short period of time.

I just realized she technically has until September 19th to have this album out "by summer" I know I along with most of you picture a June/July realease date when you hear summer. But technically if she realeases an album on September 6th, that is by summer and that makes it seem way more possible to get done.

Two things have doubting this ~

1) The source material is the NATIONAL ENQUIRERER????? C'mon!!!!!

2) Most labels are plotting out their second and third quarter releases right now, and, according to a friend at WB, Stevie's nowhere to be found in that period.

As far as I'm concerned, this is a "rumour", plan and simple!

As long as it's less folky and country and ROCKS, this is the best Mac-related news since LB's album.

But if it's National Enquirer..

Is there a possibility that WB is leaking this 'news' to generate hype or better yet, to test the waters a bit?

Warner probably wouldn't put it on their roster at this point, given that it hasn't even gotten started yet, but if Stevie did pull it together that quickly, they could always add it later.

I've a feeling the summer tour was already on the cards, so it would be a case of mixing up the set to include a few tunes off the NEWEST new album!!! **this is where I normally wake up**

I guess I should revise my statement, I have no problem with FWIW, one of my fave Stevie tracks is "That's Alright".

I definitely don't like the country stuff on TISL to a lesser extent IYD, but I also don't like country music. Folk music and folk rock is a different thing to me, as my wife said the other day, FM was often a folk rock band.

Really, I just wish she'd have more faster paced numbers. I'm not expecting Stand Back or Edge 2. Just a few more "Wide Sargasso Sea"'s and less "Cheaper Than Free"'s.

But if it's a tribute album, that's kind of another situation altogether anyway.

Or she can swing the tunes to 1940's 1950's tunes what her mom liked when she was young.I would love to hear Stevie sing with a big orchestra. That will give her chance to take a break from rock and roll. That means I get a chance to wear a tux at a ballroom show.Hahaha.Like those old black and white movies.

Maybe she is just going to do a part 2 to In Your Dreams.... it seems that some artists are doing that. Robyn did that.....she put out one part of a CD, and then put out part 2 months later...... I think it would be great if she pulled out some old Gems.....that the fans have always loved.....

"Three birds of Rhiannon" would be sweet.... If her musicians...can get the music down, it really would not be a challenge for her now. She has so many songs that we have never heard.....and at this point in her career...she doesn't really bow down to the record companies "not much" anyway. So, hopefully she will do whatever music she wants and not care about trying to sound...like everyone else. That's what she did with IYD....and well, she produced a great product. Either way... NEW STEVIE = Happy fans. :]:]:]:]:]

Just cause Jimmy Iovine runs Interscope doesn't mean diddly squat. The prime roster over there are hip hop artists. Jimmy knows where the true dollars are in the business today and is well aware that a FM or SN album is not going to make him a millionaire (again).

I disagree. I know lots of people love the idea of Stevie being more folky and country, but I just feel it is so typical. There are tons of female country artists and it would be expected that a woman in her sixties would mellow out and embrace country. Some fans may like it, but it isn't anything that hasn't been done before and isn't anything that would stand out. Stevie doesn't need to mellow out, she needs to rock more! She needs to go balls to the wall and make a statement that women and people in their sixties can still kick ass in a genre that is dominated by young males. Artistically, it would be ground breaking. How would it fare commercially? Who knows, but she'd definitely get some recognition for it instead of just becoming another face in the Country and Adult Contemporary crowd.

Stevie doesn't need to prove anything to anyone. She has the recognition. Yes, she is a rocker, but her country leanings have been there since the beginning, and there has always been a balance between the two.

Your idea of her going "balls to the wall" is interesting, but what exactly does that mean? Do you see her drastically changing her approach, and do an all-out heavy Led-Zeppelin-like album?

She's still going strong for her age, but what can we reasonably expect from her? There is a lot of dignity in not trying to compete with or act like someone who is 40-plus years younger.

Stevie has been very consistent in her music style. However, the idea of her doing a more weighty, Waddy/guitar heavy album is intriguing.

I see your point, and I think you're absolutely right that going the softer, country/folk route would be the predictable choice for an artist at Stevie's age. But I don't know if she would become just another face in the AC crowd because she brings with her the fact that that's not all that she is. A country album from Stevie would be just that: a country album in a sequence of rock and pop-rock albums. And I think that's more interesting in PR terms than belonging in that genre all along.

Having said that, the real question to ask about Stevie's next album is really about the one after that. She's 64 in May, but where is she heading, at 65 and 66 and 67 years of age? I would argue that she has already proved that a woman can rock in her sixties, and there's no need for her to distort her artistic ambitions to trailblaze unless that's really what she wants to do.

But if I had her ear, I'd be pointing out that if IYD tells us anything, it's that she has always had a foot in more than one genre, and to me that suggests that she should think in terms of planning at least two albums: a pop-rock one and a mellower country-folk one. Just make all the music that's in her heart to make. All of it, Stevie! All of it! :D

Oh don't get me wrong, I love Stevie's constant balance of Rock, Pop, and Country in her albums and if her next album is to be one of the same nature, I'm down! But if Stevie decides to consciously make the decision of either going more country or more rock, she should definitely go more rock IMO. Going country would just be so very unoriginal and more of something the industry would push for because it is more commercial and safe. And by balls to the wall, I don't mean that Stevie should become screamo or into anything that she isn't, but to embrace her rock side a little more, bring in some more guitar and some intense vocals and wails, stop praying to the commercial gods, ignore what the industry says, and make a crazy, wild rock album that she loves and is capable of.

In my mind the best thing and easiest thing and furthermore hippest thing for her to do right now would be to give someone like David Guetta a stack of demos and have them compose piano beats from her compositions. She goes in with the girls, lays the vocals and VOILA! Done.

And besides, it's fun to speculate what could possibly be next in Stevie's career coming off a high quality & creative project as In Your Dreams. The sky is the limit. She could veer off in many directions after her film/documentary is finished & released.

In My Dreams.{no pun intended} LOL .Linda Ronstadt,Darius Rucker from Hootie and the Blowfish,Jewel,Kid Rock and Sheryl Crow to name a few did country.Stevie can swing it.I dont know any of you remember the late Conway Twitty got his start singing rock and roll back in the 1950's.in the mid 1960's he started to record country tunes. It made him one of the top country male singers of all time in that era.Eagles other groups like Exile "Kiss You All Over." pop hit went the country route and had hits on the country charts.

Olivia went from country to pop success with "Physical " which it blew off Stevie's Belladonna tunes off the high spots on the pop charts.

I think ONJ has had a fascinating career- trying different musical genres and images on for size, not necessarily out of artistic curiosity, but mostly in a desperate attempt to become/stay relevant. She was the squeaky clean little ingenue who then got raunchy for a while and then bounced back to being wholesome again. Along the way, she did such shamelessly tacky things... but for some reason it all makes sense now. I scream with delight when I watch Kristen Wiig on SNL channeling 1980's Olivia with the page-boy haircut, leotard and headband. And Xanadu is so incredibly awful that it's, like, the best movie ever made. I have a newfound appreciation for ONJ these days... she was never "cool" but you couldn't help but give her an "A" for effort.

Actually, Totally Hot came out at the end of 1978. Olivia's new cd is incredible as she covers Mickey, I think I love you and so many other great songs from the 70's, but they are dance versions. Its actually the soundtrack from her new movie, " A Few Best Men". Steve Real does back-up on the cd as well. As of now, it's only been released in Australia for now, but the single Mickey is up on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tx13szmyjOw

The vaults, yes, the woman never has to pen another song - even with Dave Stewart.

The thought of Stevie doing either a country album or a an album of covers/standards constitutes my two worst nightmares as a fan. :sorry:

I'm not terribly keen on the idea of her relying solely on vault songs, either. I think In Your Dreams and most of Say You Will prove Stevie is still a great songwriter in the 21st century. I'd rather hear where Stevie is right now vs her reheating something from her past. :)

I know I'm the only one who feels this way, but if Stevie were ever to do a themed album, I'd far prefer a full on electronic/trance type work. I think she could pull it off fabulously... her mystical style and unique voice couldn't be any more ideally suited for the genre.

In the end, I think the possibility of Stevie sticking to any one genre for an album is pretty far fetched. All of her solo albums have been potpourris of styles ranging from folk, to country, to rock, electronic, blues, etc. I'm doubting she'd take a musical left turn at this point in her career... but then again if she did, I think we'd welcome it with open arms. :)

I have to agree about Stevie should be digging into those old tape vaults.

100's of demos in there which we would love to see get recorded.

P.S. I was kidding about Stevie covering Olivia. But it will be different.

I really like that idea. She would excel and blow away people with her talent in that genre.

I like to think Stevie would never consider doing an album of covers/country or even songs of older artists that her mother once loved. Im sure Stevie will stay true to herself & do what she does best which is to'' WRITE HER OWN SONGS" so im sure were going to hear some new/old demos in the mix that will be fabulous & beautiful all from Stevies precious heart, that will be dedicated to her special Mom:xoxo: I imagine her mother would much prefer Stevie write all the lyrics than have cover songs dedicated to her.. imho..

I vote for this. If I could, I'd stuff the ballot box. Her voice would bring the necessary warmth - or distinctive fire - to any one of the millions of sub-genres that make up electronic/a.

Louie...normally I agree with you but not this time...it is a complete shame that Stevie didnt have four or five songs off of IYD remixed for electronic/trance music. (moonlight, ghosts are gone, etc.) her voice is perfect for those dance remixes...but an entire album??? Even as an avid fan i dont want to hear an entire cd of that...release an ep or a cd of special remixes of her old hits in that form i.e. Nightmare, Wild heart, Nothing Ever Changes, (i'd be the first in line to buy it) but not new material...shes 89 years old! :D she should do a folksy, country cd or a standards collects or unplugged, acoustical demo stuff....its time!!

I'm not into the current electronic/trance tunes but I do enjoy the 1980's electronic keyboard dance tunes along with the 1970's disco tunes.I do still have my 12" dance singles from the 70's and 1980's in my record archives.

Stevie recording in Nashville does not mean she would be recording a country album at all. The players in Nashville are experts at every style. Dave Stewart noticed that, too, when he recorded his "Blackbird Diaries" album there at around the same time as Stevie's "In Your Dreams".

Since it's already summer 2012, I guess this new album will take a little longer but nevertheless, I'm happy she is preparing one.

Now with the Fleetwood Mac tour coming up, she is not going to be able to Tour this year, make a solo record, and be in rehearsals in Jan 2013 with the big Mac. :distress: Maybe she will do a deluxe double cd for In Your Dreams with some new songs..........and maybe that remix of "Secret Love" that never saw the light of day....even though a famous DJ claims he remixed it. Hence my use of the word "legit" in quotation marks. No, contactmusic.com is not in a league with the New York Times. But I think it is safely above and beyond the level of fans spreading idle gossip around the interwebs. I think it's fairly safe to say that no new album will be forthcoming in the summer. But who knows what may happen beyond that? I doubt she has been spending the last ten months painting her toenails and watching reality TV (not that there is anything wrong with that ;))

DJ Juan Maclean supposedly remixed secret love... below is the link to the thread with more info. I would love to hear it if exists.....at this point I am surprised it has not leaked out.........but, I agree with you...."Moonlight" would sound great remixed. Actually so would "In Your Dreams" and "For What It's Worth"......I know it sounds out, but take out all of the music when you think about it, and then add a fast beat and synths to it...... they could get some really good vocal samples from this song. Especially "In Your Dreams".......I could hear that being a sassy club song....
