Horrible song almost as bad as "Nothings Gonna Stop US Now:"

It's a much universally panned/derided song. The Starship offshoot was not the best moment/era in the Jefferson Airplane/Jefferson Starhip's legacy. The most startling thing about the song is that it was penned by Bernie Taupin, Elton John's lyrisist. Bernie is a hugely talented writer. Why did it go so terribly wrong?

I don't hate it that much. But I'm not a big fan of the Starship era - elevator/dentist office music.

I remember when that song came out. It got a ton of radio play but the diehard Jefferson Starship fans thought it was a sellout to commercialism. All in all though I thought the tour for that album was pretty good.

I know that critics and even some fans really hate this song but I don't find anything wrong with it. And now comparing this with today's Pop trash it sounds like perfect hit single.

Funny you should mention this. i just heard this on the radio. It is pretty bad when you consider what this band used to be. (Jefferson Airplane) Of course starship had several albums before this song. But still it was like......WHY OH WHY????!!! But barring all that. It's not horrible. Just cheesy.

Dreadful song! But Jefferson can write cheesy songs that are also good.

Coming to think about it.With all the name changes this band did.I was thinking if Fleetwood Mac pulling it off with names like."The Mac,Mac Fleetwood,Fleetwood,Fleetwood and Company or Fleetwood McVie". I'm glad they didn't.

I'd be happy if I never heard that song again!
Wow, I did not know Bernie Taupin wrote that song!
I'd take "Sara" or "Jane" over We Built This City anyday!

I'm sure you know this already but just in case you didn't, the reason for the name changes in any band would be because the one who leaves owns the copyright to the name of the band so the remaining members would have to use a variation of the name to continue on. In FM Mick and John never left so the name could stay the same no matter who is in the band.

Your right. If John quit.then it would be a problem to continue with the name.

This song topped the list (seriously, #1) on a Blender magazine poll of the worst rock songs ever written a few years ago. But frankly, I don't know why. It is certainly a silly little pop song with a bit of a dumb lyric....but absolute worst song? That should go to something released by The Romantics or Sigue Sigue SPutnik or Ke$ha.

I think it's great! I love all versions of this band!! I don't know why people want to put down Starship. Yes, it may not be everything that the other two incarnations were, but it's good music just the same!

Although, it's not my favourite song from Starship's Knee Deep In The Hoopla(prefer Rock Myself To Sleep, Sara, Tomorrow Doesn't Matter Tonight, Love Rusts), I think it's a pretty good upbeat song, not the atrocious song that many people make it out to be.

I didn't know that Bernie wrote this tune.I wonder if Elton turned it down. The tune is ok to me.I do like Sara.

Reportedly, it was initially offered to Heart, who declined. If I'm not mistaken, Martha Davis, I believe, has also said that the musical track(without the lyrics) was given to her by Bernie Taupin.

Once they replaced Marty Balin with Mickey Thomas, I was done with them.

I know this song word for word, just sayin'

But I do like them better waaaaaay back when they had Grace Slick. They still make some awesome music without her though, I have a few of their LP's.
