I know, that in recent times it's almost a sin to admit that somebody likes Phil Collins but I am courageous enough to say it: "I'm a fan of Phil Collins". Recently I've bought his DVD release "The First, The Last Farewell Tour" and must admit that after watching it few times, I have even more respect for the man. I know his music with Genesis but no matter how hard I tried to convince myself to like it, still I prefer his solo work. I don't know what it is, but there's something special in his Pop approach. It's just Pop music, nothing more, but today we don't get as many good Pop albums as "Face Value" or "But Seriously". His voice is decent at best but his knack for writing memorable melodies cannot be denied. Some might say that "One More Night" or "Two Hearts" are just plain commercial stuff but in my opinion it's Pop music at its very best. It just puts me into a good mood, especially during cold, Polish winter:) I have Phil's all solo albums, even his most recent Motown tribute album and even if it sounds a bit uncool I will say one more time: "Yes I am a fan of Phil Collins" :)

Aw Phil. Loved him in Genesis. Abacab and Duke are his masterpieces with them. His first 2 solo albums also masterpieces. he lost me with No Jacket required. He never rocovered from that.
Fantastic drummer. My Favorite.....even beating out Mick Fleetwood:nod:

I was so tempted to simply post "No"... but Viv beat me to it lol.
I hate Phil Collins, the nasty, whining little git. He needs to eat a Cake and chill out. He's only beaten in the "Bee hates..." ranks by Bono and Morrissey. Or, as I like to refer to Morrissey as, "Artists to slit your wrists to". I think if Morrissey had a happy thought he'd be so shocked that it would actually kill him.

I hate those two as well! And you can also add to my list of "artists to get depressed by" - Coldplay and Dido!

I'm not a Phil fan at all. I really can't bear him, other than In The Air Tonight and a couple of ones with Genesis (Jesus He Knows Me).

ughhhhh no! For me that's the worst one and I'm still enraged that that song beat the wonderful Aimee Mann to an Oscar (she was nominated for her work in Magnolia).

I LOVE Phil Collins and I LOVE "No JAcket Required", such a great albume (no matter what ANYONE says). Poor Phil has been suffering serious bouts of depression lately, I don't think he realizes the impact he had on pop music of the 80's. VERY underrated performer IMHO.

Oh, I definitely agree with those two! Though I, rather embarassingly, have one of each of their sons on my iPod. Fix You by Coldplay and White Flag by Dido. I hate myself for it, lol. I do really have some embarrassing stuff on my iPod.

Well, I was a child when Tarzan came out, so maybe it's just the nostalgia from hearing the songs and buying the soundtrack and seeing them on Disney Channel and all that jazz...

Just like I thought there are many people who diplomatically saying are not his biggest fans :) But I think that he was truly a great songwriter, especially during the 80's. And "Sussudio" no matter how silly might sound its title, still it's one of the better singles of the decade. I also like "Dance Into The Light" which too soon went to dust bins :( Phil has never been prolific artist in the eyes of critics but 100 million fans all over the world can't be wrong :) Best wishes for all Phil's fans:)

Thanks. I try to earn my keep!!!:wavey::woohoo:
And I COMPLETELY disagree about Sussudio(or however the hell it's spelled)....I think it was a big part of what ended his popularity, because it's so craptacular!

I agree. I'm not ashamed to admit. I LOVED him in genesis. Loved him. As i said his first 2 solo records, face Value and Hello I must Be Going were brilliant. Then no Jacket came. Talk about a steaming pile of puke. I loath that album. Nothing from No Jacket on worked.
I still love him though.

I feel bad for Phil. I read an article about him in Rolling Stone Magazine where he said he wants nothing to do with his musical past. Apparently he read some bad reviews on his 1980's output and seriously took it to heart. He does not feel appreciated. He now goes by the name of Phillip and won't answer to Phil any longer. Even his wife has to call him Phillip.
Could you imagine if Stevie took to heart all the bad reviews she got from the 1980's and then decided to only answer to the name Stephanie and never again perform any of her past songs?
Forgot to mention that Phil has arthritis so bad that he is unable to play drums today. He can only sing.

As I wrote before I love "Sussudio". The lyrics are stupid but who cares? Do you remember a band named "Black Eyed Peas" and their "thought provoking" song "My Humps"? Is it any better? No. But musically "Sussudio" beats that song out. The horn section in this song is simply the greatest. To me this song sounds like Stevie's "Stand Back", it just draws you in right from the very start. Probably it's no coincidence that both "Stand Back" and "Sussudio" were heavily inspired by Prince's music at that time. And no matter what people say there was a life for Phil after "Face Value" and Genesis :) For example my all time favourite album of him is "Both Sides"-self produced, self arranged, self-written and self-played gem. This album is truly remarkable, especially songs like "We Fly So Close", "Can't Find My Way" and "Everyday".

Wow .I did no t know this.Thats to bad the reviews got to him.I do remember Stevie was livid when the reviewers commented about her weight. Not her artistic works of her music. If I was in this position. I probably tell them where to go.Hum .Stevie won't answer to Stevie.

"Warm Ways" is even better than "Sugar Daddy". In the beginning, after first few listens of "Fleetwood Mac" I did not care for these two songs but I've grown to appreaciate them and now I love them. My girlfriend absolutely loves "Warm Ways", it's one of her favourite FM songs ever! Every artist is entitled to record so called trash classic:) You know... the song that is so bad that you actually love it:) And going back to Phil...he did this thing more than few times but with great results.

Okay, so there are 5 of us that love Sugar Daddy. Warm Ways is alright, but a little to sleepy for me.
Sugar Daddy ROCKS!!!! I love every single nuance of the music! The piano intro, the way the drums kick in, and that B3!!!!! Musically, for me, it's the PERFEKT pop-ROCK song.
It makes it onto every single greatest FM hits CD I make(as does Think About Me, As Long As You Follow, and Love Shines).
Those four songs, are stellar examples, of why Chris was the biggest hitmaker. Pure Pop Perfektion!

Phil Collins music is okay, but it doesn't really do anything for me.
I love Sugar Daddy, though!
but I truly hate Phil Collins and his bland, uninspiring music. I do love that song from Miami Vice, but that's mainly because it's in Miami Vice. :sorry:
