Where I Go: Stevie Nicks
The former Fleetwood Mac rocker, who recently wrapped a solo tour promoting her latest album, In Your Dreams, trades the stage for Hawaiian shores when her wild heart seeks respite.
Q&A by Anthony Rotunno and Dana Mathews
To get away from it all, I go to … Maui, Hawaii.
My favorite way to travel there is … flying on American Airlines.
My favorite place to stay is … I usually rent a house on the water in Napili.
My ideal travel companions are … as many of my best friends that are available to come!
When I’m in the mood for room service, my favorite order is … grilled fish, steamed vegetables, and the ever-present soy cappuccino.
My favorite place to indulge in an authentic Hawaiian meal is … the local farmers’ market, where I buy papayas, mangoes, and watermelon.
To stay in shape, my on-the-go fitness regime is … wherever I go—be it a hotel or a rental house—I always have a treadmill with me. I also have a Power Plate that I keep in storage in Maui.
My suitcase must absolutely contain … a set of Legna sheets, my favorite cashmere blanket, and an alpaca-covered hot-water bottle.
When it comes to luggage, I am an … overpacker.
The best-kept secret about Maui is … if I tell you, it won’t be a secret anymore!
When I’m in the mood for some retail therapy, I must visit … Front Street in Lahaina.
My favorite travel pastimes are … reading fashion magazines and sipping coffee on the lanai.
Upon arrival, I most look forward to … the magical sunsets. They’re different every night.
Upon departing, I am most happy to leave behind … nothing, but the thing I’m most not happy to leave behind is my Chinese-crested Yorkie.

Why is that?
I just wouldn't think that would be a favorite thing to do. There was a stretch when I was using AA to get to Chicago almost every week and I was not that impressed. I've never flown to Hawaii through them, however.

I see. It was kind of an odd question, once she had identified Hawaii as her favorite place to go. Obviously most people don't take a boat there, so she would have sounded silly saying her favorite way to get there was by flying, period. Maybe she felt she had to add American Airlines to make it more of a real answer.

I detest American Airlines. I had the worst flying experience with them. The flight crew were unbelievably horrible. So much so, that I felt the need to contact/email the airline and tell them about my experience. I was on that flight with several friends, and they were also aghast at the crew's behavior.
Of all the airlines, it's so bizzare that Stevie would single them out. She must frequently fly internationally. I could think of several airlines that have a certain air of luxury far above American Airlines, which I equate with a Greyhound bus.

AA Airlines has filed for backruptcy. Apparently Stevie needs to fly AA more often.

When I was a kid and I was sick, my grandmother would tuck me into bed with one and it was very comforting, but it doesn't stay hot for very long compared to a heating pad. So, I don't know what her deal is. She probably still uses a bedwarmer.

As long as she doesn't use a bedpan!:wavey:
(Seriously, my naturopath doesn't think it's good to lie on a heating pad, cook in a microwave, walk through metal detectors, electric doors, or use cell phones. Here's (http://www.askanaturopath.com/faqs/electromagnetic-radiation/p/452) some info. Wouldn't surprise me if Stevie uses a hot water bottle instead of heating pad because of this reasoning.)

Right now, in Scotland in December, I am practically welded to my hot water bottle. And yes, it has a furry cover. And yes, I take it to bed - along with my husband, who also takes a hot water bottle sometimes too! It takes the chill off the sheets very well. Maybe it's more of a British thing, but I don't find anything remotely strange about Stevie liking these.

I think it definitely is a British thing, just like tea and black taxi's, they are practically a British institution. I'm gonna have to dig my hot water bottle out sometime soon, it's getting pretty chilled down my end of the country as well. Not much fun!

So, speaking of Napili -- I was perusing this old Hawaii magazine I forgot I had from June 2009 and there was an interview with Mick. Ha. Anyway, the article opened with Stevie and Lindsey joining FM:
The band is on the verge of international superstardom, althought nobody knows that yet. The group is recording an album in Los Angeles, when Buckingham and Nicks suggest, to use Fleetwood's term, "a band treat."
"Lindsey and Stevie knew this great little hotel on Maui called the Napili Kai, which remains unchanged to this day," recalls Fleetwood. "We had a great time together in Napili, and the album we were working on turned out well," says Fleetwood.
So, let's see if I have my history straight. Stevie and Lindsey were broke, broke, broke as haints before they joined Fleetwood Mac but they managed to stay at a Hawaiian resort. I assume this was the trip they went on after they completed BN, early or mid 1973 I would guess.

Both their families were very well off but it makes for a better up and coming act(story) to talk about how much of a struggle life was for them.

Oh, yeah I know. But, I don't think they were living on easy street either. I think they were helped out or Stevie was telling some tall tales to get money from Jess.
I suspect Keith Olsen funded that Hawaii trip anyway.
