Jessie Baylin is a musician/singer I came across a few years back in Denver, opening for James Morrison. She became a fast favorite of mine - she has a beautiful and unique voice and writes great songs. Her first album You was an independent release and is no longer available, but many of those songs were re-recorded and included on her first release with a major label, Firesight.

Her new album, Little Spark, will be released in January. However, last week Jessie recorded Pleasure Center, a 5-track EP, at home in her living room and has distributed it for free via soundcloud.com. Four of the five tracks are covers and one, White Noise, is her own composition. One of the songs she covered is Stevie's Storms, and I wanted to share it with you here.
From Jessie's Facebook page:
last week Richard Swift & i got together for a few days to record these songs in my living room on a 4 track. I hope you enjoy listening to this album as much as we enjoyed making it. It was a very cathartic experience for me. Its my gift to you. Free as a bird, give it to your friends & i hope these songs resonate with you the way they do with me.
You can listen to or download the songs here, including Jessie's cover of Storms:

She didn't change the song melody or arrangement; it's a pretty straightforward cover but perfectly demonstrates her vocal style.
I hope this post doesn't come off as a shameless promotion of Jessie's music, but that's pretty much what it is. The way the music industry craps on artists these days - especially the singer/songwriter - gives me (and all of us) cause to get the word out about the artists we love in any way we can. If you like Jessie's cover of Storms, you may very well enjoy her other material. She is an artist I believe very much in, and I hope you might like her, too.
You can also see her December 6th at The Mercury Lounge in NYC.
