Anybody have any idea how many copies of IYD have moved? A month or so ago people were saying 150K or so.

I think, that promotion is not great, but I didn't expect anything else. They don't want to promote 63 year old woman because there are so many teenagers who need their support:laugh: Stevie is legend and her status alone sold this album. If given tight marketing "In Your Dreams" could have been one of the biggest selling albums of the year. People at big record labels seem to forget that audience doesn't need another Miley Cyrus or Selena Gomez. We need a bit of true music in this endless sea of pretentious, "computerized", auto-tuned music. I talk to a lot of people about music and there seems to be consensus, that we need a lot more down to earth music, something in the vein of Stevie Nicks' latest effort. Luckily sales statistics don't tell anything about the quality of the album itself. It's just the album, that with or without Gold or Platinum certifications stand above the rest of competition. Let's leave sales obsession to Marketing departments at record labels and youngsters who just start their careers... You know Stevie's been there, done that... She has enough of Platinum reminders... The great achievement is that being 63 year old woman she was able to put her album in the Top 10. Have you seen Pat Benatar, Linda Ronstadt, Carly Simon, Debbie Harry or other female rock veteran lately to do this?

True she went top 10 at first, which is a victory in itself. And she sold around 150K in about 5-6 months. But I get a sense that there is a slow and steady flow of sales for IYD. Might it hit the 250K mark soon?
I wish she would take courage from IYD's critical success and give us one more right away - the "Rhiannon" project!

Sorry, but no. IYD fell off the charts 2 months ago. Since then, it's been selling less than, say, 2,800 units a week. They're still trickling in, but I can't imagine she's added more than 20K since late September (and that's being optimistic).

Stevie said in an interview that the IYD sales have been "bubbling along", and it hopped back on the charts at least twice (once coming back in all the way up at #150, not bad for a re-entry months after release). The last official number I saw was a couple months ago and IYD then was at something like 163,000.
I think Stevie is so keen on continuing to promote it into next year because it is continuing to "bubble along". Kudos to her because it really is a brilliant album (IMO her best ever) and there are a number of songs on it that could still be released as singles. I'm glad she's planning on doing that.

IYD sales sucked, period , at this point , how can one defend lets say what 165 k sold so far when that same person sold millions in the past, sorry a bomb is a bomb, im talking SALES only, not the album itself, maybe its good, who knows, but the album sold shi* and sales suck period, im sorry, numbers dont lie

Wow...that was pretty harsh. How can you compare sales of albums in the 70s and 80s to sales today. You can't. People just dont buy CDs anymore. That is what mostly has come into play here...that and the realization that she isnt at the top of the list for a lot of people to run out and buy music anymore except for us die hards.

This is the twilight of Stevie's carreer, mainstream success and airplay and album sales are NEVER going to be what they were at their peak, and I don't think anyone wise would expect them to be. You just can't compare it to the past. Stevie's not a 30 year old sex symbol anymore and rock music is dead... her status today is much more that of an icon rather than a phenomenon. So she may not sell a million copies, but she still receives considerable attention and praise for her work. Her album cracked the Top 10 and sold fairly well afterward. Not to mention that artistically it exceeded all aspirations for most. What more can you ask for?
There's no need for such negativity.

David, take your Ritalin. Way to flip out over people just asking for information.
Besides your argument is completely bogus. If you want an apples to apples comparison, compare IYD to sales of other legacy acts that are producing albums now. You'll see that IYD outsold Heart's top 10 album "Red Velvet Car", outsold Aretha Franklin's album, outsold Blondie's "Panic of Girls", and probably outsold most legacy artists' albums that have come out in the last several years.
In this time and place IYD was a success. If you have to rely on comparing it to Stevie at the height of her career to claim its a "bomb" then obviously you have a weak argument.

Probably thanks to all the internet freeloaders that hi-jacked IYD she could of sold more.I can understand where Stevie's coming from on her side of the fence about internet pirates.
On the otherhand they say the music industry is hurting in sales.I always say start producing good tunes and maybe they will sell.Produce crap .get crap on return. The industry died in the late 1980's and 1990's before the internet came around.

I guess Stevie is in the same boat as her contemporaries, new material will sell in the low 100,000s. IYD, Lindsey's latest, Dave Stewart's Backbird Diaries, and so on. I think you can still make a minimal profit from that and still be creative. But is it enough for Stevie?

I doubt that Lindsey's or Dave's albums sold even close to that.Stevie is probably more in line with Bonnie Raitt or Heart these days.

There is no way Lindsey sold in the low 100 thousands. He'd be lucky if he sold 40K copies of SWS. Dave Stewart is probably more in the 20K range (if even that)
IYD sales have to be in the 150 -200K range at this point. Not exactly in the profitable column for Stevie (even though she saved some recording at her house) being on a major label. You have to remember Stevie has a lot more overhead than Lindsey or even Dave, the latter recorded the Blackbird Diaries in a week or so in Nashville. Where upon Stevie has expensive studio musicians, producers (let's also not forget Glen Ballard here) engineers & mixers (Chris Lord-Alge) etc. AND spent the course of a year recording, mixing and prepping IYD. She probably spent about a million to make the record, while receiving on average 1 dollar per copy sold. Reprise/Warner received any profit if there was any after marketing & manufacturing costs. Bottom line Stevie almost certainly lost money on the record, but recouped in touring. Sounds like a strong case for Stevie going the independent route!

"When we spoke to Paphides, he confirmed that when he interviewed Nicks for the programme (in a section that was never broadcast), she had mentioned that Buckingham had been working on some new songs, seemingly with a view to record them together. He had been inspired to do so after the death of Nicks' mother, whom he had known since he and Nicks got together as teenagers. Nicks was apparently due to meet Buckingham the day after Paphides' interview took place. Surely you jest! I don't even know why I bother, but here goes...this year Stevie Nicks can still headline big amphitheaters like Jones Beach in NY, B of A Pavilion in Boston, and PNC Bank Arts Center in NJ, along with the lucrative casino outings and bigger theaters that want to book her. Stevie Nicks solo career will never be over as long as she is healthy and able to tour with or w/o a new release. She is an icon. Like it or not.
And regardless of whether or not she lost/made money on IYD, that's just one piece of a MUCH bigger picture! Stevie grossed anywhere from 13-16 million (conservative estimate) in 2011, between her IYD solo tour and 5 week Heart & Soul outing (raked in over 17 million alone according to Pollstar) add in royalties on catalog sales & spins. She worked hard last year & deserves to be laughing all the way to the bank. Besides her presence & promotions last year only heightened FM profile and catalog sales.

Of course, you're correct - but remember there are those on The Ledge who are still pissed that at 64, Stevie can headline in amphitheaters with her solo work........ ..............When Lindsey releases a solo cd and it sells 15,000 units, it is because he's a "true artist" and he "doesn't care about commercial success"...When Stevie releases a cd and it ranks #6 on Billboard, it sells 200,000 and she fills amphitheaters - it means she is "pandering" and she should retire.

How can anyone say that Stevie Nicks' career is over? Apart from Adele and few other exeptions no one really gains much profits from selling music in today's times. Bruce Springsteen's latest album has yet to be certified Gold. What about Madonna's "MDNA"? It looks like it spent less weeks in Top 100 than "In You Dreams". Even Rihanna's latest effort sold considerably less than her "Loud" album even with 11-weeks or so-# lead single. If Stevie wants to be successful again then I guess she will have to record an album in Lionel Richie's "Tuskgee" vein.

Madonna's MDNA was inflated its first week because of the push for you to preorder it to secure presale tickets to her concert tour this summer...which was a really smart idea. However, after its first week debut it had the biggest drop off in Billboard history...

With ‘IYD’ being a year old now, Stevie needs to bring something fresh and different to the table.
I saw the ‘IYD’ tour in Saratoga Springs, NY last year, and even though I am going to the Boston show in July, I’m less excited than I should be as it’ll just be déjà-vu.
2013 will be the 40th anniversary of ‘Buckingham Nicks’. The album should be remastered and rereleased, with some new tunes thrown it. Stevie and Linds should then tour together. :blob1:
It’ll be a lost opportunity if they don’t. It's just ridiculous that the two of them have been talking about putting 'BN' on CD for over 20 years, but nothing happens.

Let's break down Madonna's MDNA era numbers:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/05/10/madonnas-2012-income-revenue-500-million_n_1507571.html
-$240 million in PRE-SALE concert ticket sales (Madonna takes 95% after expenses per her Live Nation deal and the woman works well with budgets.)
-$70 million in merchandise sales (Madonna takes 70% per her Live Nation deal)
-$60 million in perfume sales from Truth or Dare scent (Madonna most likely takes about 5-6% of the gross)
-$10 sponsorship from Smirnoff (helps pay for tour costs)
-$5 million profit from Material Girl clothing line
My guess is that MDNA's sales are hardly keeping Madonna up at night.

My point wasn't that Madonna doesn't know how to market herself, I'm a fan and know she's brilliant with that. My point was the album did not blow sales out of the water, and she probably doesn't care since anytime she tours she guarantees mega money regardless. It was just that without the album presales to buy concert tickets it highly disappointed analysts.

i dunno, so many musicians speak of their "artistic integrity". maybe Stevie has chosen to keep hers and not sell out to move product. i agree that country wouldn't be much of a stretch for her, but the callow pairings on LR's record don't seem like it's in her. i mean, the bulk of her collaborations have been with kindred spirits. (kookie, raspy Macy Gray; rocker/worshipper Sheryl Crow; Tom Petty) i don;t think she's comfy arbitrarily pairong up with people (witness her discomfort with the Bon Jovi thing)

Not only did he team up with a bunch of country stars, but all the songs are reinterpretations of his previous songs. I'm sure Stevie could team up with a bunch of popular singers and rerecord Edge of Seventeen, Dreams, Gypsy, etc and sell a million copies, but I think that would be the last thing any of us fans would want. Lionel's last solo album of NEW material was released in 2009 and has sold a total of 95,000 copies and it featured Akon and Ne-Yo!

Lionel Richies Tuskegee has done so well because it's being marketed to a country audience which in generally an older buying public. Country albums continue to be the top selling genre. This is why so many former rock/pop stars are "going country", they get their songs played on radio and they get to sell some albums. The ironic thing is if your a classic country artist, you cant give your latest album away and radio won't touch it. Country radio today sounds more like the rock stations of the '80's.
By the way, Lionel's album is pretty damn good. As someone suggested, have Stevie team up with today's country stars, redo her on hits as duets and she will get a#1 album on the country charts and a long lingering top five hit on the pop charts. It's almost guaranteed.

Given Lady and Three Times a Lady and similar songs in his catalog, I don't think that Lionel going country is a complete sell out.
I wouldn't mind for Stevie to do it, but with singers she really has something in common with, not with Taylor Swift.
If Stevie was going to sing Straight Back with Jennifer Nettles, I might want to complain, but I honestly think I'd be too excited to do so.

Lionel himself said that "going country" wasn't a big stretch for him. Kenny Rogers had a hit with "Lady", Alabama with "Deep River Woman" and Conway Twitty with "Three Times A Lady" so he's no stranger to the country charts.
When he did the album he let the other artists pick the songs they wanted. Lionel then sort of squeezed himself in where it worked. As I said the album is really good and even people I don't like, Jennifer Nettles and Kenny Chesney, make the songs work for them.

My question is this...WHY does Stevie have to do a "Country " record and WHY does she have to team up with "Todays Country stars"??? If she wants to do a "Countryish" record why not just call some of her old friends??? Tom Petty writes a great country song...Don Henly & Glenn Frey wrote how many great countryish songs??? Neil Young writes great country songs...Stevie is friends with Michelle Branch who can do country without being over the top...And don't forget what Dave Stewart did with "Cheaper than Free"...What I'm trying to get at is Stevie could do a "Country" record stay well within her comfort zone and make a great record...How great would it be if a bunch of old rock stars made a country record that made Nashville take notice...

Well, I don't think that recording all duets country album would be a kind of selling out. As long as it's not Rod Stewart "sappy American Songbook" route then it's fine. I don't like Lionel Richie's latest album (and to be honest I've never been a big fan of his songs) yet I think it was a perfect move from strictly commercial point of view. At least it added something to his legacy. He became visible again.
