Fleetwood Mac singer and guitarist Lindsey Buckingham pursued fatherhood rather later than most. 62 years old, he has three kids with his wife Kristen Messner - William (13), Leelee (11) and Stella (7).

In 2007, he told The Telegraph that he had intentionally delayed being a dad, “because I saw a lot of my friends screw up their kids, either because they were never there… or they were there but weren’t present.”

However, he now says that he’s benefited from being a father later in life: it’s actually helped him enjoy his music career more.

[Parenting] does infuse your entire life with a calm and a sense of purpose you didn’t have before, a sense of love for something else.

(Is this a man thing? I don’t know any moms who feel a sense of calm regarding parenting. But I digress.)

Buckingham’s new solo album, Seeds We Sow, is out in stores now.

To me, it's more of an age thing than a man thing. It seems to me older mothers (I mean the growing number of women who are starting families after 40) do have a sense of calm or at least patience. I think you're worried initially about the pregnancy and the health of the child. But once they're actually there and ok, there is a sense of calm and tolerance and you tend not to freak out when they are being demons as much as you might have 15 years ago.

i think you may be partially onto something. if you have kids later, after you lived your life some and done stuff that you wanted to do, you are ready to calm down and spend time caring about kids because you don't feel that you are missing something. on the flip side, you might be more worried about all kinds of stuff than really young parents who don't necessarily weigh every decision or look at the pros and cons of everything...
