I just read on the F/Mac News & Reviews, that Stevie will make an appearance on Nov 15th, its such a shame that an awesome 15 yrs rock chick got voted off the show last week, she would of been a perfect candidate for Stevie to mentor on the show. Oh well!! Still its going to be fantastic watching Stevie on the X Factor:blob2:

Yay! Thanks for the heads up.
Does anyone think Stevie's here in Australia already? A Facebook friend (read: a person I went to school with some years ago) last night posted that they had 'dinner with Stevie Nicks' at Wildfire Restaurant at The Rocks. I have no reason to presume they were making it up (maybe mistaken identity!), but it seemed unusual since her first show here isn't for almost two weeks. But now with this X Factor apperance next week, it seems more plausible
In any case, keep your eyes peeled Sydneysiders!

I kid you not I was texting a friend earlier this week about our odd weather and saying how Stevie must be near ... [had just heard about her XFact appearance]

last time she came here the weather was odd too
i don't doubt there's a connection

Last time she was here solo, she went to the Melbourne cup with her Australian tour promoter Andrew McManus and then spent time in Sydney, so it would not be out of the question.

X Factor pays tribute to Stevie Nicks by: Confidential reporters From: Herald Sun November 15, 2011 12:00AM

X FACTOR Australia's final four will pay tribute to soulful singer Stevie Nicks before one contender falls at the final hurdle.
Melbourne hopeful Andrew Wishart, Reece Mastin, Johnny Ruffo and group Three Wishez will come together to perform a Fleetwood Mac song, before the last act is sent packing before next week's grand final.
Nicks will take to the stage herself to sing a new song, along with Ed Sheeran who will sing hit The A Team.

What song do you think they're gonna do?
I'll rejoice if it's anything other than Landslide. Not because I'm tired of Landslide, really... but mostly because group covers and/or reality-tv covers of Landslide really really fall short like every time I've seen them, and it pains me a little inside each time.
So please. Sing Dreams or something.
DoubtfulMiracle
11-14-2011, 06:01 PM
I don't reckon it'll be Landslide. Given there's six singers, I think something a bit more sing along like Don't Stop would be more suitable. That's presuming they look outside stevie songs though, which wouldn't be much of a 'tribute to stevie'. Otherwise maybe a bit of a medley? They've done a couple of those earlier in the season I think...

There a crappy vid of the performance on youtube, it wasn't very good, at all.
I'm not sure if she had issues with her monitor, the sound in the studio or just her voice.
And all the hand moves were a bit much, I can see how people that are not very familair with her would think she was maybe drunk.
Maybe it was nerves?

11-15-2011, 06:36 AM

11-15-2011, 07:13 AM
The YouTube audio quality isn't great, but even so I didn't think her performance was all that terrible. Maybe she was nervous, but it wasn't anything THAT bad. Someone above said that maybe the people making the negative comments weren't used to the hand motions, and I think that might be part of it. I mean, I was weirded out by the hand motions at first too, but... they kind of grew on me in a "Stevie being Stevie" kind of a way, and now I sort of love them.

Bleh! Secret Love IMO does not translate very well to stage. There are far better songs she could have done plus it was the first single. Why perform it now? Weird.
justcrazylove
11-15-2011, 10:12 AM
Her performance was hideous, Secret Love is a studio track through and through and should not really be performed live. The embarrassing thing for us Aussies is that the general public have next to no exposure to Stevie and this is the **** she dishes up on a national platform. Furthermore reinforcing the stereotypes held by the demographic that watch programs like the 'xFactor', that old artist are past it and aren't worth paying attention to.
I'm looking forward to her gig's but the audience who already have tickets don't need to be convinced that she is amazing, it's the populous that i will now have to defend myself against.

Oh and furthermore the meatloaf references of Twitter, is as about as high an insult an artist could have in this country right about now!

11-15-2011, 10:21 AM
I think the biggest problem with this song is the direct audio tv sound.... The mix never sounds right on tv... You can hardly hear the drums, synths or back-up vocals... and Stevie's vocals are about 10x louder than everything else.
I don't reckon it'll be Landslide. Given there's six singers, I think something a bit more sing along like Don't Stop would be more suitable. Meatloaf was here recently and even his fans were saying terrible things about how bad he was! Australians can be very cruel and so I feel sad for Stevie and wish she had sung Moonlight. I think she could of sung this song with more confidence and it would of gone over much better with the younger X Factor audience, imho! Her advisors really should of done their homework more thoroughly, considering her reputation was riding on this one performance!

Hate to say it but that was bad.
She was yelling and enunciating each syllable separately, like she was reading to a two yr old. Why does she do that sometimes?? Sucks that it was so bad when she's so good! Aggravating.

I have to say I saw the clip from the x-factor australia performance I love my Stevie but she has not been sounding right at this year she has had some good performances here or there very few. I saw here during the recording of the new album she did spotty shows last aug. 2010 while recording the new cd and she sounded awesome one of her best shows she did last year. She definetly is not sounding like herself for some reason. She is really nervous performing her new songs I don't know. I want to say she didn't sound that great on the x factor.I think she needs to rest and recharge her batteries.

Wow!!! Caitlin, you and I are on the same page. That was a fantastic performance and I don't even like that song. (I love the demo tho) Her vocal was strong, her movements were energetic, she looks great and happy, and sounds clear and in front of the music rather than Waddy's guitar drowning her out. I loved it!!! Also wanted to say how impressive how she held the note in the end and then made an interesting whistling sound into the mic at the very end.

"Secret Love" is a song that requires a more subtle delivery (like "If Anyone Falls"), so it never quite lives up to the studio version -- but I thought she sounded quite good there. In fact, I liked it better than any of the US TV performances.

I actually thought it was alright too... I was expecting the worst considering what I read... but after watching it, I was like... are we watching the same program? She sounded pretty good... She over does a little I agree... and the song itself doesn't translate all that well live after hearing the album version... But it was better than the US performances of the song.

^^^ I don't watch any X-Factor shows, but maybe they didn't include any SN songs in the tribute so as not to put anyone under the pressure of having to make a no-win comment, such as 'That was great, much better than old Nicksy there!' or 'That was shyte! Nicksy, I'll hold them down while you get the boot in, doll!'

I too was expecting a bad performance, but I've seen alot worse from her. She looks fantastic and I don't think she appeared drunk or stoned at all. Secret Love has NEVER been good live and I don't think it ever will be. Steve Real deserves a kick in the ass for telling her it sounds good live. Also, who the hell is the genius who thinks a great way to pay tribute to Stevie is to do a melody of Fleetwood Mac songs NOT written by her and then playing "Go Your Own Way" over her little montage? Le sigh...

That was my initial thought the first time I saw this. Last thing she needs is to get sick again with such a short tour of Australia, especially since Dave is coming along too, would hate for him to just not perform if she is sick.

I haven't read through this thread... I do agree with you justcrazylove.
I was anticipating this performance.. after seeing her in peak form pretty much this whole year.. and especially when touring this album on tv and her shows. I was i guess thinking she would blow Australia away with her new voice and energy in her performances of this new material.... :distress:
Unfortunately, so unfortunate, as soon as stevie started singing, something sounded waaay wrong, and i started turning it down.. then down a little bit more, then down to almost mute. I actually didn't even watch it all. I then put on her show from redrocks recorded this year... WORLD of difference.

I have to admit it wasn't the finest performance. As regards to comments that she was drunk or stoned, I thought she just looked tired (or perhaps sick). She looked the same on the Sunday night when she was "mentoring" the contestants. To be honest, that is the worst bit of mentoring I've ever seen. Most guest are in the studio helping the contestants with their songs and giving them advice on their singing etc.
It was more of a "meet and greet" Stevie than anything else, she certainly wasn't mentoring them, just tossing a bit of advice their way (or at least that is how the show portrayed it).
As for the Aussies being harsh, we say things how we see them. Meatloaf was terrible a few months back (part of his overall decline I think from when I first saw him in concert 15 years ago) and no matter how much you love Stevie, it certainly wasn't her best performance.

Do you own a pair of ears ?
I just watched the X Factor performance for the first time and I have to say that after all these years of being a Stevie fan and witnessing all of her ups and downs I personally am happy with her performance! She seemed happy and smiled often and she never sang in a monotone as has happened in the past. I don't know where the drug references come from but I assume it's because Stevie talks about her history with drugs in most of her interviews and she closes her eyes a lot while she is singing but she's always done that. Also, she usually makes eye contact with one member of the audience but when she's on TV, I guess she feels like she has to engage with more people and maybe that's why she looks around more. As the saying goes, "You can please some of the people some of the time but not ALL of the people ALL of the time"!

Ouch. So much for the sheep and goat jokes. She honked her way through this thing on a flat gravel road. Make way for the goose references.

I'm only critiscising her because I know she is still able to perform at the highest level. But I call into question her choice to keep singing SL, even though it's a train wreck every time. With every performance of that song her credibility goes down, not up.

Which celebrity guest star gave the best advice?
Joe: From us, we got the best advice from Stevie Nicks. As an artist she’s sold more than 140 million albums.
Fred-Day: And she was part of one of the biggest groups of all time, so that was helpful. And we love Ronan so much. If it wasn’t for Ronan we definitely wouldn’t be here now. Yes I agree. The problem is the song -It is true that it simply is not great live- and the choice of the single off the album. Shes marketing the single and has to perform it but it should not have been the first single. It a lovely old song but for a perfomance on primetime tv when she is working so hard to have an impact it is the wrong choice. Most performers have their most marketable or best song as a single. Somebody got it wrong. I dont think shes out of it at all shes just trying really hard to get it right and make it more dynamic.

^^^^ This i agree with %110. Stevies management / People? should of used Moonlight as THE song to promote IYD's, not Secret Love:o!!!! its a nice song, but its definatly not a hit song that will draw people into buying tickets or IYD's. Its a darn shame!! and an absolute carbon copy from when TISL & they chose Everyday as the first single, there were a heap of great songs on that they could of chosen.. Unfortunately they once again dropped the ball big time.. & that is SOOOO disappointing to say the least.. end of rant!! lol,:wavey:

Her performance was hideous, Secret Love is a studio track through and through and should not really be performed live. The embarrassing thing for us Aussies is that the general public have next to no exposure to Stevie and this is the **** she dishes up on a national platform.
This is SO true. I am soooooooooo proud to be a fan. and WANT people to know her for the awesome **** she can dish out on stage. Coz i personally think she sounds better live. But she is going to win NO fans from that performance. and that makes me sad and annoyed. coz that song SUCKS live. from all the performances i've seen of it on TV. she could have down a cut up version of Moonlight. THAT would have won over more people.
it wasn't the hand moves that freaked people out. i think it was her yelling the song out :o

I don't necessarily agree that Secret Love doesn't translate well to the stage, but it doesn't seem to translate well to TV. I'm not sure how that could be, but I've never seen a televised Stevie performance that did justice to her live voice. I've often wished I could see the same performance live and then played back on TV to compare the two. I saw "Secret Love" in concert 3 times this year, and even the worst of those performances was significantly better than the best TV performance.

Here's a good quality video of Stevie performing...I actually think it was good =)
<iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/m4NM0Q4cvT8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
The performance wasn't awful, but it wasn't great. Perhaps the long distance travel had something to do with it, but her voice was off -- that's the first time I heard her sound like that. It was very clipped, sharp, and slightly hoarse.
Got to give her credit for trying to sell this song (on various TV appearances), but, unfornately all of them have been lackluster. It's too bad, because we know her capability to be brilliant!

She was so off-key it pained me to listen. :( Really, really bad. I don't think she could hear a damn thing (as Catdancer already mentioned.) It's not the song choice, or because it's TV, or because Youtube quality sucks - Stevie was off.
Sad, because it's not a good representation of how she's been performing this year.

Yes exactly and you are right they did the same with TISL. Who the hell makes the final decision? Two excellent albums which had a little of everything on there and they choose the weakest songs for a single market. Its not that there not good they just dont do the job. Go back all those years and imagine not choosing rhiannon, say you love me dreams, dont stop, Loving fun as singles and push oh daddy, ISA, World turning. And yes I love all those songs but they werent the songs that stood up as a single, a pinnacle of the album, a song to live on the radio and in peoples hearts. It was the WRONG choice and as for X factor.....even worse. I dont watch it but it didnt even tick the boxes of what the show is supposed to be about.

3 Wishez Interview
http://www.popsugar.com.au/Interview-X-Factor-Group-Three-Wishez-Sophia-Joseph-Fred-Day-20431066
Which celebrity guest star gave the best advice?
Joe: From us, we got the best advice from Stevie Nicks. As an artist she’s sold more than 140 million albums.
Fred-Day: And she was part of one of the biggest groups of all time, so that was helpful. And we love Ronan so much. If it wasn’t for Ronan we definitely wouldn’t be here now. He’s helped grow 3 Wishez — he is a part of 3 Wishez, he always will be, because he was the one who made our dreams come true.
Interesting that Joe and Fred-day say that. Given that the advice she gave them was to preserve the group and never try to outshine each other. Given that Three Wishez will be history the moment that Sophia gets a record contract, they would be very concerned about keeping the group. That girl could be made into an international star but she won't with the two of them holding her back...

Excerpt from piece on Reece Mastin, Adelaide Now, 12/1/2011
http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/entertainment/confidential/x-factor-winner-reece-mastin-is-living-the-dream/story-e6fredq3-1226210825796
KYLIE adores him, Stevie wants to do dinner and tens of thousands of teen and tween girls are playing his debut hit Good Night right now.
The X Factor winner Reece Mastin is living the dream, somewhat sleep-deprived but determined to parlay his big break into a career.
The signs are already good.
Good Night has been one of the fastest selling singles of the year, with more than 70,000 copies sold - which wins him a platinum plaque.
His upcoming concert at the Luna Park Big Top is sold out and his debut record is in the can and ready for release on December 9, in time to cash in on the Christmas ker-ching.
Mastin's win has also given him entree to the rarefied backstage worlds of Kylie Minogue, who gave him a shout-out during her ARIA Hall Of Fame acceptance speech, and Stevie Nicks, who has taken him under her wing.
Nicks invited him to hang out after her Sydney Entertainment Centre gig, gave him a gold crescent moon pendant and made plans to catch up for dinner before she leaves Australia.
"I got to meet Stevie Nicks last night, she's amazing. She's given me advice, a present. She doesn't give these out to everyone. She's like my mum away from mum," he said.

There are already a few people who have offered their services for co-writing sessions, including Stevie Nicks.
"We went to her concert, she dedicated Rock & Roll by Led Zeppelin to me," Mastin beams. "She said she's keen to write with me."

I think you're right. It was probably the travel and exhaustion. She often sounds flat (it's just her voice) but she almost never sounds strained or tuneless like this. She sounds a bit like Christine singing "Love in Store" during the Mirage tour!

The following people definitely have them:
Michelle Branch
Vanessa Carlton
Sheryl Crow
Sharon Celani
Lori Nicks
Tai Babalonia
Bette Midler
Cory Buckingham
Karen
Chrissie Hynde
Mick Fleetwood
Colbie Callait
Taylor Swift
Jimmy Iovine
Danny Goldberg
Jessi Nicks
Can't remember for sure but I think...
Chris?
John?
Robin (in the past, of course)?
Mary Torrey?
Lindsey?

I did notice the sound mix was great balance.
See, I thought that's what wasn't right. Her amplified vocal seemed to have no bottom end. It was like listening to a transistor radio on an old AM station. When you sing live, you've gotta have some low frequencies in there somewhere. Otherwise, you sound like an aluminum roasting pan being crinkled up.

The following people definitely have them:
Isn't giving one to Mastin a little hasty? Now, she sneezes in your direction and you get one. There used to be more discernment in the old days.
She might not have given Lindsey one. She may have said, "I sewed them on your jeans and that's enough for you."

On the back of a week that wasn’t quite their best, Stevie Nicks from Fleetwood Mac dedicated Landslide to Jess Dunbar and Matt Price while they sat in the audience of the band’s Sunday night show.
“I was very impressed by these two people ... there are very few duos ... not now and not for a long time,” Nicks said.
“I hope that no matter what happens with you and this show, doesn’t matter. What matters is that you guys keep going and become that duo. The world needs a great duo.”
This dedication spurred the duo on in last night’s show, getting back to their roots, performing Bruce Springsteen’s Dancing in the Dark.
The duo is in the top seven on The X Factor Australia and are rapt to perform this week, with Miss Dunbar’s parents back from an overseas holiday.
“This is our first time performing the song together. I’ve always loved Bruce Springsteen’s Dancing in the Dark. And I’m so pleased my mum and dad are back in the country to see us perform on the show for the first time,” she said.

Yeah I've been watching this duo on X Factor since the beginning, every time they perform i really want to hear Frozen Love from them.. They remind me of S & L, so great to read Stevie has taken an interest in them... :D

I don't understand why she chose "Secret Love". It wasn't a hit, isn't on her latest solo album, doesn't translate well to stage at all and isn't the most memorable of songs anyway.
