I thought it would be interesting to see everyone's opinions of Stevie's fiercest moments. Those moments where she just ruled the stage with such passion and...welll.... fierceness!

My Top 5 Fierce Moments from Stevie:

1) 'Stand Back' on Solid Gold - Everything about this performance screams fierce! Ohhhh how I love her shuffling to the microphone before the lyrics begin! She sings the Hell out of the song and I love her dancing with Brad! Her red outfit was sooo gorgeous!

2) 'Gold and Braid' from HBO - Here we get to see a super confident Stevie shaking her ass off, looking sexy, and having so much fun with her tambourine! Let's not forget those high kicks either!

3) 'Sister of the Moon' from the 1982 - Stevie looks so angry and I love it! The crazy gibberish seals the fierce deal! Definitely one of the best performances from that show.

4) 'Rhiannon' from 1977 Japan show - Those twirls! I love the dead look in her eyes and her hoarse voice belting out the last verses!

5) 'Gold Dust Woman' 1981 with Bob Welch - Stevie knows she's hot and works that stage!

Those would totally be mine as well, at the moment I'm so obsessed with Gold and Braid from HBO.
I'm gonna try and think up some different ones, might take a while :D

True. Most of Stevie's fierce moments are from her early days. But I would put Silver Springs from The Dance out there, too. It's a different kind of fierce, but it has my vote.

Good grief, yes. Especially when you consider how many completely new fans were initially hooked by that performance.

I love the OP's list. I'd maybe substitute the GDW from Japan and put in Rosebud Rhiannon instead of Gold and Braid. Or maybe make it a Top 10!

Those are my favorite "Rhiannon"s.

I agree with the others mentioned but in my mind...
Silver Springs The Dance
Gold and Braid HBO
Sister of the Moon Fleetwood Mac HBO Mirage
Edge of Seventeen Live at RedRocks
And I thought her SoundStage DVD was beautiful...Sara

Not for nothing, but I think her performance of "Edge of 17" on America's Got Talent a few months ago ranks somewhere up there. It was the kind of performance that made me remember why I succumbed to fandom all those years ago.

Gold and Braid from Woodstock 1998!!! The Woodstock show isn't mentioned much around here which surprises me. I love the fact that she continued with her set even though it was raining off and on all day, and it was hot and muggy and her hair was damp and frizzy. She still looks pretty heavy but she's wearing a short sleeve something or other and you can see her arms (hey, that's rare). She appears very confident and comfortable. She sang and danced her heart out and seemed fierce at times and over emotional at times as well. It's just a great show!!!
The videos on youtube are pretty bad but you get the idea (I would love love love to see better footage!). HAEWAFY made me cry. So emotional... I love her..all of her...through the good and bad, thick and thin, frizzy hair and all.

Oh wait...what was the topic?? Haha. Sorry yall, just having a (much needed) moment!!

I thought that performances on Solid Gold usually were, but Stevie's... didn't they keep singing at the end, without any accompaniment or anything? Or was that a different performance?

A couple others:

Fall From Grace from the Blockbuster awards 2001 with Sheryl Crow; she hits the high note and the performance overall is intense
Angel from HBO special
Blue Denim from Letterman 1994 (the ending)
Twisted from Boston 1996

I would add the Gold Dust Woman performance from that Sheryl Crow and Friends special back in the late 90s or whenever it was. It was pretty fierce in my opinion.

The backing tracks were definitely pre-recorded, but the vocals were 100% live. The only other performer I saw singing live on Solid Gold was Deborah Harry, and she was actually the guest host for the entire hour. She did a very off-pitch rendition of "The Tide Is High."

Have to agree with Gold and Braid, Sisters of the Moon and that GDW with Bob Welch. Have to agree with Silver Springs from the Dance.

So many considerations including IMO, her performance of Ebony Eyes with Bob Welch at Cal Jam.

If so, what about BATB with the orchestra in Melbourne in '06?
Also, Landslide with Lindsey on Letterman in '98.

Stand Back Solid Gold - the red
HBO specail Gold N Braid - the tambo
SOTM Mirage - just frakkin amazing
1981 Rhiannon Live - wow
Most of Woodstock 1996 live - so raw and emotional

Sturgis - she called on the wind. mind blowing

Night 2 Sunday @Fillmore 2011 (both were amazingly awesome):

Moonlight -

She sang it very much like the album version and looked stunning in red. She was totally feeling the song and made sure we did too. Chiffon flying. Bat wings whipping around like crazy. Mystical beauty. She was sooo into the moment and the presence/ghosts of all the past performers. I was left speechless. She sang the verses softly and let out a bone chilling wail at the end. Such a sight to see!!!

EO17:
Sweaty, poofy hair. Head banging. Smiles galore. Feathers in her hair. White dress. Threw the mic stand back a couple of times. Rocked the hell out of that song. One of the best times of my life :)

This is one reason why I love Stevie so much. She was fierce in her "prime" and is still fierce decades later. Great thread!

SOTM from the Tusk doc, especially when she raises her hand & the crowd goes nuts

Rhiannon Rosebud, especially when she freaks

Gold and Braid from the HBO special, especially when she kicks and when she does the thing with her shoulders while she’s singing near the end

GDW from Rumours Tour Japan, even if she is wearing all of her poodles and Yorkies on top of her head

Stand Back from RAL Red Rocks concert vid – I know everybody makes fun of the dance sequence with Brad, but I like the whole performance

Runner-up:
Ebony Eyes at Cal Jam with Bob Welch – Who else could command attention like that with just a tambourine? (I’d almost include Mirage Tour Vid's Eyes of the World for the same reason, but there she’s commanding attention by shaking more than the tambourine. Are we counting the viewer's passion or just Stevie's? ;) )

Would love a vid.. but got to take what we can. I had seen though her sining a song called 4 minute, or hour or something, and she sang the hell out of that song. Stevie sometimes seems to sing harder, take more vocal risks out of her normal register when she duets, like on Tom Petty's tour as well.

It is clear to me that this thread now needs to become a DVD of the Best of Stevie in concert. We cannot limit this to 5. But this would one killer DVD spanning her entire career and leave no doubt that she is the Queen of Rock n Roll. I need help with the best live version of Rhiannon. I think someone above said 1981 so we will go with that.

Rhiannon 1981
Gold n Braid - Bella Donna Tour/HBO Special
Standback - Solid Gold (if only for it being on Solid Gold :))
SOTM - Mirage 1982
Ebony Eyes - Cal Jam
Gold Dust Woman - with Bob Welch (I love Dance version too)
Silver Springs - The Dance
Edge of 17 - Crystal Visions version with Melbourne Symphony Orchestra

Nice to throw some duets. I loved Hotel California. Must also be something from tour with Tom Petty. That acoustic version of Insider was amazing (although I love the version from Pack up the Plantation). But nice to have some duets and those from 2000s!

I also love the live version of Landslide from the 1980 Live record. That one remains my favorite live version all these years later.

And it needs Sara. I feel that the live version in the red dress that was (hideously) shortened for the video might be an amazing performance to include.

Go Your Own Way from Mirage. I think this is the one where she ends the song with "you can call it, another, another lone-ly daaaaaaaayyyyyy. Gets me everytime.

I think a DVD like this could be killer.

When the RAL period came about, there was definitely a decline in Stevie's fierce confidence.

RAL Highlights

"I Can't Wait" Music Video: I feel that Stevie was having a lot of fun with those stairs and the dance routines. And plus...the song is fierce to begin with!

Fall From Grace from the Blockbuster awards for sure. Why that was never a single, I'll never know. She was pretty awsome during the Sturgis Soldiers Angel performance. and in her younger days I remember the gold dust woman performance from Bob Welch and friends. She got pretty fierce on No spoken word and Edge of Seventeen from the rock a little performance at red rocks. She wasn't at her healthiest, but she gave it her all.

You see now I think RAL exudes all kinds if wild fierceness. The headbanging in Stand Back is screaming confidence. Even the vocal, very playful. She was feeling her groove, but got it across it a cool 80's rock and roll kind of way. We ate the sh!t up. The wilder Stevie was the better the audience was, and in turn the wails, twirls, vocal ad libs, and chatty cathy sessions were fuel for everyones fire. Cuz most of those performances were one of a kind, and to me that makes it fierce.

Here are 2 more performances that I think are fierce, but they are very different.

1) She is totally rocking out dancing, shaking all kinds of booty, all kinds of tambo action, flipping that mane of beautiful hair all around, jumping over the cords or amps to get back to the mic, just feeling the vibe of the song a certain way, not to mention the crowds praise for her performance, kind of seals the deal for me, anyway.

STAND BACK 1983

<iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/gixMa0sGRp8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

2) Much more subdued in the physical side of the performance, but the fierceness in this video comes strictly from her strong, touching vocal of this song. She nails the parts that she is supossed to nail and beautifully at that. Again to me, anyway.

Beauty and the Beast 2005

Likely, Stevie always prefers to sing live, because she knows how terrible she is at lip synching. It would look really bad.

This IS a good performance (sans the weird dancing man) however, as far as Red Rocks goes, I think "Outside the Rain" really stands out the most. I love, love, love that version.

EO17 would have been better if not for the "sounds like she's singin' it to YA" on the end of every chorus. Can't stand that little addition.

ragrsrocalot... i love the two video clips.....those are the moments that lift stevie from rock and roll chick/singer to a legend....bless her heart for doing it night after night after night for decades...it's not easy...it's a difficult life, yet, she does it...singing the same songs night after night so we are able to re-live our memories with her music...I was lucky enough to be there from the start and the cocaine years (especially the 80ties), the years of MTV, was an exciting time...Ms Nicks was less calculating and less cautious than she has become now...then again, we all were more careless because we were younger!
I know that other divas have a strong fan base but stevie seems to be aware that shes doing it for us...other divas like Houston, Carey, Dion, Streisand dont seem to be as aware that it is solely the fans that keep them selling tickets and cds...while Cher, Stevie, Bette and a view others understand that they could have easily disappeared in the late 90ties if they hadnt cultivated their fans...
