Hi all.I just got this from the radio forum I hang at.The owners of the station are dropping the axe on good radio talent.Thats the problem with corporate radio. They suck.

Cumulus cuts KLOS, Los Angeles PD Bob Buchmann, legendary jock Jim Ladd
Cumulus had mostly held off making changes at the L.A. cluster it inherited from Citadel Broadcasting, until today. Now it's let PD Bob Buchmann go at classic rock KLOS (95.5), after 2-1/2 years. Also gone - KLOS evening personality Jim Ladd, the inspiration for Tom Petty's 2002 song and album titled "The Last DJ."

The times they are a changin' eh? He is a legend and this kind of thing makes me feel old. Next thing you know, I will be retiring -then I really WILL be old.
Thanks for sharing the sad news and for the great Jim Ladd interview links. He always had such a way with Stevie.
Adios Jim and thanks so very much for all the wonderful programming! :wavey:

I loathe and despise corporate radio. They wouldn't know music or talent if it smacked 'em on the ass. Jim Ladd is a legend but expendable in today's radio. This is why I listen to XM/Sirius only these days. Hope they hire Jim!
PS-thanks for the downloads! I love to hear Jim and Stevie chat!

Such sad news. As a part of the younger generation, I really don't get the direction we're heading with things like this. Disappointing..hope someone like Sirius will pick him up as someone mentioned.
He really was able to form personal relationships with celebrities and musicians who were at the height of fame, and asked the questions that we as an audience and the performers appreciated. He GOT it..you know?
When I spoke with Stevie about his 1979 interview, she immediately brought up her 2011 interview and had nothing but the highest accolades for Jim. She said he really is the last great Radio DJ and persona still around..and told me that I would love a lot of his other interviews from back in the day. She made me promise that I would look them up :p Jim will be missed!

The talented and really gifted should picket line...
today the industry hires boobs and butts. Many cannot sing but thank God for the auto tuner...they can't dance but with a crusade of dancers around you while you make the arm movements and poses...does it really entertain me? From Brittney to To Nick Lache' s ex wife...her and her sister were exposed as frauds. The poor little sister did it painfully on SNL...live....her record skipped and she clown danced off stage...Hannah Montana and her real name. Personally...I found it so offensive to see Britney Spears in pig tail braids...a white and wide open shirt...and the Catholic School girls barely there uniform skirt...appealing to what I know from the guys around me in work...in the studio...etc...her biggest fans were dirty old men...was she under 18 when her first video came out?
Singers that can't sing...
Dancers that can't dance...
And this is what Hollymuck has to offer...
while they cash in on soft pornish type videos and images.

This is outrageous! I loved all of his interviews, and the 4 hour Stevie interview was a gem, never thought I'd hear something like that in this day and age. He's such a legend, I can't believe he's gone from KLOS.

Jim got Stevie, Lindsey & often Mick to really open up & let loose with stream-of-consciousness conversation. But never Chris or John. Not Jim's fault with them, however--just not their personality.
On the Wild Heart tour when Stevie played L.A., she did the Petty song & then said, "Jim Ladd, if you're out there, this is a good time for a program for you ... Innerview--because HE needs to know!"

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers played 2 fundraising shows this weekend at Cal State Northridge for their radio station. Jakob Dylan was there too. Tom mentioned Jim Ladd.
I didn't go to these shows, but wondered if Stevie was invited. She loves to sing with Tom.

Thank you very much for splitting up those files, MacMan. :)
By the way, that 1979 interview with Jim Ladd is my all time favorite. I will definitely miss his interviews. :(

He should freelance and work with Stevie on a no holes barred epic documentary. She's always said, "...when I finally sit down and write that hysterical book..." I think that with their collaboration it would make an epic book and dvd...I am not worried about him finding work...he is like Stevie...one of a kind.

FYI, this Saturday Nov. 5, Jim Ladd will be doing a farewell show on KFI AM 640 from 4p- 7p.
This is an L.A. radio station, but you will be able to listen online at www.kfiam640.com.
There has been talk about him going to another station, so I'm hoping he makes an announcement, and if not, at least KFI is giving him a chance to say goodbye. Jim said he is grateful for this opportunity. And maybe Stevie will call in, if not show up?

Lots of talk about Jim going to KSWD (The Sound) 100.3 FM...to reconnect with a few of his former cohorts from the long gone KMET.

As much as I hope some radio station snaps Jim Ladd up in two seconds flat, the reality of media these days is that Jim may have to go somewhere else to have a show like his.
The music business and Hollywood are both famous for here today, gone tomorrow, but media in general are notorious for dumping people who become too expensive. Think about all the cutbacks in staff at various newspapers across the country. Many really, really talented writers, photographers, editors and other staff get ****-canned, not because they aren't good, but because they're too expensive, or they speak their minds.
He will be VERY sorely missed. His ability to get his interviewees and really get them to open up inspired me to endeavor to do the same when I was in journalism.

Clearchannel, which owns about 600 stations, laid off quite a few on-air personalities last week and most were not given the opportunity to say goodbye to listeners. The number of DJs let go ranges from "dozens" to "hundreds," and it's all part of a major reorganization that will result in more syndicated and automated programming. Local color will be completely diminished. Corporate broadcast radio killed the industry by blurring the distinction between formats, limiting playlists to about 30 brands (once called artists) who are merely product spokespeople with catchy jingles. Real musicians write and play music, they don't get sidetracked designing clothes (that they didn't really design) for Sears, hocking their perfume on HSN, etc. That's why I consider Katy Perry satan - even though her first album was a Christian music effort released under a different name. She realized that squirting frosting out of her boobs in videos co-starring repeat convicted felons would earn her the respect of fans and peers alike.
