On Stevie's or Fleetwood Mac's next album, which of Stevie's old demos would you like to see released?
Not necessarily your favorite demos. I love "Blue Water," for example, but I don't think she could top the original piano version. And while it just slays me that "Space Needle" didn't make it onto TISL, I feel like that's the album it belongs to.

My pics would be "Forsaken Love" and "If You Were My Love."

What about all of you?

Seriously, just imagine what those two would sound like with her current voice. I would ****ing die.

I agree about "if You Were My Love" (must be a Fleetwood Mac Song) and my second vote would be for "The Dealer", just think it's a fun tune with a great chorus.

Some of the finished and almost finished tunes should be released "as is" and not tinkered with, ie Julia, there have to be enough great versions to put the song on some kind of cd. Same with the "lost" Street Angel, I think is tucked away some where.

I agree with "If You Were My Love" and "The Dealer". I think IYWML is her best unreleased song at this point. It's already a classic to me so I would love her to officially record it.

I'd also be interested to hear "The Forest of the Black Roses" or "The Birds of Rhiannon".

Strangely, the other day I was thinking about how it was such a shame Stevie didn't record more songs in 1998. Crystal and If You Ever Did Believe are amazing and I wish we could have captured more of Stevie during that time period. I then thought, wouldn't it have been awesome had she added a 4th disc to Enchanted and it would be current recordings of old demos? I think it would have been a perfect way for her to fully realize some of these songs without having people complain about her new album not being new songs. Anywho, my picks would have to be:

If You Were My Love
Mable Normand
City of Hope
Joan of Arc
The Forest of the Black Roses
Christian
China Doll

China Doll

I don't know how I forgot about "China Doll". THAT is probably my favorite unreleased song before "If You Were My Love". It makes my heart break every time I hear it and her voice now would be great on it.

"The Dealer" for sure. I wonder what she could do with "She Still Loves Him", "All the Beautiful Worlds", "Baby Doll", "Love and War", and "Sanctuary" in her current voice. Should BN ever do a tour or even an album I'd love to hear "Farewell Failure" if she would even attempt those long notes. I just don't think she could match "China Doll" today.

Agreed 100%!!! Unfortunately we will never see it unless Stevie decides to admit the 80's actually did happen...

Stevie should just make a dump of all her demos in a cd collection for her true fans,With the state of todays crappy radio airplay results.I dont see why she should get her heart broken with sheety responce from radio.unless she get one of her demos mixed by a rap artist.Good grief.

Sanctuary, Starshine, The Dealer and China Doll. I think many of the others would not turn out well - not because of vocals but more because the feeling of the demos simply could never be recaptured. Looking at the mess that was made of Smile At You, I'd be very nervous about songs like Forsaken Love, Forest of the Black Roses or All The Beautiful worlds being re-recorded.

My preference would be that she just finish these songs, using the vocals that are already recorded, add harmonies as necessary and then have them properly mixed and produced. I don't understand Stevie's weird obsessiveness with constantly re-recording and reworking songs that are already essentially finished. Just because she's releasing something now does not mean it needs a 'now' vocal.

I think so, too! On many of them the vocals are just so damn good; it would be a disservice to some of those old songs if she re-record them.

Stevie (or even we) should do a poll and the top 7 vote getters get recorded along with 7 new songs of hers for the next album. And I agree in some cases, the vocals don't need to get re-recorded, however, some of them should.

My 7 tracks:

1) Mistress of My Fate/The Dealer
2) If You Were My Love
3) All The Beautiful Worlds
4) Jimmy Come On Back
5) City of Hope
6) Christian
7) What Has Rock N Roll Ever Done For You?

I don't understand Stevie's weird obsessiveness with constantly re-recording and reworking songs that are already essentially finished. Just because she's releasing something now does not mean it needs a 'now' vocal.

While I love the idea of "polished" demos being released, I highly doubt that will happen for a few reasons. For one, there are practical and cost considerations: bringing those demos to release quality would require tracking down the multi-track session tapes, probably baking them, filling out the arrangements with additional instrumentation and vocals, and doing a final 2 track mix.

Also, keep in mind that demo vocals are often somewhat tossed off, without the care and perfection that would go into a final vocal. While there are many Stevie demos that have very fine vocals, my guess is that she wouldn't view them as up-to-par for official release. (Many of us could make a strong argument that demo vocals from 1983 are superior to released vocals from 2003, but that is beside the point).

Then there is also an emotional/philosophical desire that I'm guessing Stevie (like most artists) has with wanting to work in the "now", crafting new music that speaks to where she is today even if that involves recording new versions of old demos. It's part of maintaining vitality as an artist.

I think Stevie has such a vast, captivating and interesting unreleased treasure chest of music that it's left such a huge gap in her career and connection with us, as her fans, to have only accessed this incredible stuff through bootleg and sharing. In my opinion, something she should have done around the time of the Dance, would have been to have created a box set that spanned her whole career instead of re-releasing material we already have. A major missed opportunity with enchanted, which really would have been the "works" of Stevie Nicks had she released her most valuable music, the material the "world" never got to hear. I don't really like the idea of re-recording because somewhere along the line, too much tinkering takes something away.

I *do* see the logic in all of your reasons, but I don't agree with any of them. I'm not disagreeing with you, per se, just disagreeing that any of those are a valid stumbling block to releasing demos in anyone's mind but Stevie's.

That said, I think we all know this will never happen, most likely for the very reasons you stated.

I also agree with someone else who stated that the Enchanted should've been the unreleased songs of Stevie Nicks. That would be something really special. There's so many versions even of released songs that I wish were on cd. Than I'd want a 'better' booklet than what came with Enchanted with more unreleased photos. Than include a DVD of unreleased outtakes from videos or the completed HBO concert & live songs through the yrs plus interviews from 'ALL' solo lp's . I could go on & on. I would love it if Stevie would loosen up a bit and remaster If You Were My Love with Lindsey for the next FM record....a sprawling oh....6 1/2 minute album version or something and THEN....perform it live on the 2013 tour. I agree. And, I too wish that Stevie & her record company would team together & release her more polished piano & vocal demo's AND solo song outtakes as a rarity to fans - The Best of Stevie Nicks: The Bootlegs & Unreleased Songs - A compete songwriting compilation/retrospective. Focusing on her unique song creation style and featuring all the unreleased gems/bootlegs/demos not in official release from 1972"-1999-ish.

Imagine all the stuff we haven't heard! If quality songs like "Reconsider Me" were in the vault - a song nobody heard & had not been in circulation. There must be tons more where that came from!?! I imagine as far as the outtakes from her solo records, it might be a small legal hurdle, but It could still be done. The question is whether or not she owns the original masters to these outtakes, and I'm guessing NOT. Most artists do not own their own masters, the record co. does . It was part of most band contracts, and very few, other than Michael Jackson, Prince, and a small minority of other artists actually staked claim on their master recordings in their record contracts.

"Enchanted" was appropriate at the time, considering "they" were trying to capitalize on "The Dance" success & momentum & introduce or reintroduce Stevie's best solo works up to that date, not only to her new younger fans, but also sprinkle some rare crumbs to the hardcore fans. I personally loved having most of the B-Sides & all the Soundtrack songs up to that point in one place. And perhaps she left out "Mirror, Mirror" because there was a small chance that she would still re-record that one, But "Real Tears" would have been a great addition. Otherwise it was a pretty great box set imo. But still Stevie need another set that is focused on bootlegs & outtakes. The timing to do it is now, or in the next few years, in the winter of Stevie's career, marketed as a rare songwriting retrospective. All the great 60's & 70's prolific & respected male songwriters have done this (Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, etc.) It's time for Stevie to be acknowledged in the same format! She was esp. prolific as a songwriter from 72" through 1985" and then again from 1995-1999.

This needs to happen. Because I'm beginning to doubt we'll ever get expended re-releases of her solo catalog & She'll never have the time to record all these wonderful un-released songs & demos. There is simply too much material!! And some of it she cannot do justice to with her current voice. Having said that, Dave Stewart & her did a terrific job with LFTM into Moonlight...so there still could be hope for a few (a handful at best of these to still be released, but still....these songs need to be heard. And whoever said "Night Gallery" would be a great title for this. I completely agree!!!

Ooh Ooh Baby is pretty fabulous...I still have trouble deciphering all the lyrics since there a many layered vocals on that track (something Stevie doesn't seem to have any interest in doing anymore).

That one is my fave, right up there with Forest of the Black Roes. But I wonder if Dave could do it justice, it seems more a FM type of Stevie song.

Absolutely have to have The Dealer/Mistress Of My Fate

I would love to have "The Dealer" and "Julia" untouched with their original vocals and production. They're perfect as they are.

You can't please everyone..Once the album is heard there will be entire threads dedicated to how this and that Ledgie's favorite demos have been ruined by Dave etc.

As far as I'm concerned the demos will always be there for us to love and cherish and we get a version with Stevie's current vocals paying homage to them. What's not to love? I'm really hoping they bring back Blue Water that song is classic Stevie

Oh yeah!!! I second this times a thousand!!!! For almost 20 years, I've kept a list of songs I've hoped, prayed and dreamed Stevie would record before her career comes to an end. "Blue Water" has ALWAYS topped my list. It didn't appear on TISL, SYW, or IYD obviously, but now with an entire album of "vault songs", I'm hoping she will finally decide to revisit this one. It's too good not to appear on anything. The hook alone ("I want to take you on a...slow ride") is worth it!

Also, maybe we will FINALLY learn what she's saying during the first verse...

"I sit and I fly, hidden out of sight..."

"I sit nine fly..."

"I sit out at night..."

"I sit now in flight"

Her vocal is so rushed and mumbled during that part. I've been trying to decipher it for years.

According to this site it's "I sit and I'm flying (personally I hear "I fly") hidden out of sight" http://www.inspiredangel.com/?page_id=2255 This site has all of the lyrics to Stevie's demos! Talk about dedication lol

Blue Water

Blue water
Sit and I wait
For the morning to come
Blue water
And I wait for the sound of my gypsy
Blue water
I sit and I’m flying
Hidden out of sight
Blue water
Blue water
And I stare at the sea
And the sea smiles for me
And the sea
Is as moving
As a lover
I can’t give up the night
I’m in high tide
I’d like to sail the sea
I’d like to take you on a…slow ride
I won’t give up the night
High tides…
I’d like to sail the sea
I’d like to take you on a
Slow ride…
Slow ride…
Slow ride
Blue water
I sit and I wait for the morning to come
Blue water
And I wait for the sound
Blue water
Sitting on a flight
Hidden out of sight
Blue water…
And I wait for the sound
Wait for the sound
And I smile at the sea
And the sea smiles for me
And the sea is as moving….
As a lover
I can’t give up the night
I’m in hide tide
I’d like to sail the sea
I’d like to take you on a
slow ride…
a slow ride…
I won’t give up the night
I’m in high tides
I’d like to be your friend
I’d love to love you till the end
Till the end…
Blue water
I sit and I pray
For the morning to come
Blue water
And I wait
For the sound of my gypsy
Blue water…
I sit and I fly
Hidden out of sight
Blue water…
Blue water….
And I smile at the sea
And then the sea smiles for me
And the sea
Is as moving
As a lover…
A love
I can’t give up the night
I’m in high tide…
I’d love to sail the sea
I’d love to take you on a slow ride
I can’t give up the night
I’m in high tide
I’d like to be your friend
I’d like to love you till the end
Blue water…
I sit and I wait
For the morning…to…come….

When I transcribed "Blue Water" a million years ago for BuckinghamNicks.net (http://www.buckinghamnicks.net), here's what I heard:

http://www.buckinghamnicks.net/sn/unreleased/bluewater.html

Blue water
I sit and I wait for the morning to come
Blue water
And I wait for the sound of my gypsy

Blue water
I sit out at night
Hidden out of sight
Blue water
Blue water

And I stare at the sea
And the sea smiles for me
And the sea is as moving as a lover

I can't give up the night
I'm in high tide
I'd like to sail the sea
I'd like to take you on a slow ride

I won't give up the night
High tide
I'd like to sail the sea
I'd like to take you on a...slow ride
Slow ride
Slow ride

Blue water
I sit and I wait for the morning to come
Blue water
And I wait for the sound
Blue water
I sit out at night
Hidden out of sight
Blue water
And I wait for the sound
Wait for the sound

And I smile at the sea
And the sea smiles for me
And the sea is as moving as a lover

I can't give up the night
I'm in high tide
I'd like to sail the sea
I'd like to take you on slow ride
A slow ride

I won't give up the night
I'm in high tide
I'd like to be your friend
I'd love to love you 'til the end
'Til the end

Blue water
I sit and I wait for the morning to come
Blue water
And I wait for the sound of my gypsy
Blue water
I sit out at night
Hidden out of sight
Blue water
Blue water

And I smile at the sea
And then the sea smiles for me
And the sea is as moving as a lover

Your site may have been the one where I read the lyrics years ago to Belle Flower.
Those lyrics said:
Men and women
Living in a canyon
Indian dancing

I hear:

I'm kind of baffled to learn blue water is her most popular demo ever at least going by views. And it also seems to e a few people here's favorite. It's a very bland song to my ears. I've always heard it was up there as far as being a fan favorite, so id try o listen to it every couple of months but could never get thru the damned song. I finally finished it yesterday upon learning it's her most viewed demo. Still not a fan but I can see its potential finally and found the slow ride hook stuck in my head.

This song and most of these damned demos can use dave Stewart's treatment of secret love and Annabel lee. The only ballad type demo I think needs to remain a simple ballad is forsaken love. That needs to stay true to the demo and shoul close Stevie's solo shows from now until retirement.
