Of course she is not doing this to elevate her profile amongst the Grammy committee. No way. What the heck would she do with one of those statues anyway? Doorstop, maybe? :p
Jealous I can't go to this! Someone better video this!!!!

I just heard about this last night at the show. There were only 200 tickets available.
I was told that I would have to buy a Grammy Museum membership in order to purchase tickets for these special events. Long story short, I went to the museum today and there were people ahead of me and a paper list was being taken because there was some kind of Ticketmaster glitch with the show not being on the website as it should have been.
So, with tix going on sale at noon, there were already many of them purchased by people who showed up early....I saw the list.
I got lucky and they called me later to confirm my purchase.

Really? You saw it on the Grammy Museum website that the show was sold out?
Here is what I found.
An Evening With Stevie Nicks
A Special Benefit for The GRAMMY Museum and The GRAMMY Foundation
Presented by American Express
Wednesday, October 19, 2011; 8:00pm
Stevie NicksThe GRAMMY Museum, in conjunction with The GRAMMY Foundation, is honored to welcome the multi- GRAMMY Award -winning Stevie Nicks to the Clive Davis Theater. As a member of the legendary Fleetwood Mac as well as her extraordinary solo career, Nicks is one of the world's most influential and inspiring artists of the last three decades. Before an audience of 200, Nicks will converse with GRAMMY Museum Executive Director Bob Santelli about her history-making career and her current CD, In Your Dreams, her first studio album in a decade. After the discussion, Nicks will take audience questions and perform a few songs.
Doors open at 7:30 pm. American Express presale tickets are $50 and can be purchased at Museum Box Office starting Thursday October 13, 2011 at noon. Public onsale is Saturday, October 15, at noon. American Express is the exclusive payment method for presale tickets. American Express ticket purchasers will also receive a special gift. All proceeds benefit the GRAMMY Museum and The GRAMMY Foundation. For more information, please call 213.765.6803.
I searched their web-site but saw nothing about the event being sold out. All pre-sale tickets were supposed to have been sold to AMEX customers so I was surprised to read that they sold tickets to people who were members of the museum.
Anyway for those who still want to go tixs may or may not be made available tomorrow starting at noon. Good luck!

I just called the Grammy Museum. It is for sure sold out. However, that phrase is not in my Stevie vocab! I am going. End of story lol. I have to ask her about her demos again. I figure if I keep asking the same question she'll remember who I am. Perhaps "demo girl"?

Get even more excited...the venue is TINY! I don't even know if the band can fit on the stage and I talked to the sound man in Vegas and he knew nothing about it, which is weird, but the Grammy Museum has there own set up. I don't think we should expect too many songs, from what I was told it will be an hour interview with the director leading it, Q&A from the audience and just a few songs. What time are you getting there?

Phew, I am in!!!!! Long story as usual. So I have a question for you guys - for those who don't know I had an amazing opportunity to meet Stevie back in February and preview IYD audio and sizzle reel along with a q & a and I specifically asked her how she felt about demos being circulated all these years (search for thread if you want details). So I was thinking if I have the opportunity to ask her a question again tomorrow night I'd stick to the demos topic (maybe she'll start to recognize me as "demo girl") and ask her about them again but not the same question about how she feels about them. Rather, I was thinking of reminding her I asked about them last time and then asking if she has any plans to release more, which ones come to mind first if she did release them, put in my own personal request for what she should release, etc....
Is this stupid? Do I need to stop bugging her about a topic she has previously been very uncomfortable talking about for years? But the truth is I want to know!!!!!

I think you should ask what you want. But, I would be specific with the demo - and only give her a couple of titles or she'll forget what you said. Try to ask direct questions instead of something she can twist her way out of answering or chase a rabbit on.
Example: Stevie, since you found out the Secret Love demo version was on youtube, has that inspired you to work on any other demos, such as: Blue Water or Without You (as a hopefully extra track on a Buckingham Nicks cd release)??? ;)

Awesome advice, thank you! I will include "songs like All the Beautiful Worlds and Chanel Chanel." (yes I know ATBW is more of an outtake but I'm referring to a modern version) and preface with Secret Love example. Yay! :blob1:

I have a couple good questions I'll ask if i have the chance. I was too nervous last time.

I think it would take a lot of balls to ask her in a pleading manner. I would approach it indirectly as a comment. Tell her how much you and other fans loved that she pulled Secret Love out of the vaults, and how great it would be if she could do that again, "with other amazing vault songs!"
Mentioning specific songs would make you sound too pushy. I don't think anyone would appreciate at that.

Definitely a good idea. I have never seen Stevie lambast a fan just for asking a question. Even if it tweaks her off, she will still give you a nice answer such as, "Well you know, with every album I always try to pull a few songs from the vault. "Moonlight" was also a song I pulled from the vault and finished writing it after seeing 'New Moon!' So, you know, I am sure on any future albums there will be a couple of old songs."
But who knows, you may get her to say, "Oh you know, I paid someone to put all my demos on my iPod and I now spend an hour a day working out and listening to them! Definitely recording Christian and Julia here soon!!!!!"
Someone should definitely ask her if she is planning on taking another decade long break after IYD and if she is ever going to bring Sisters of the Moon back.

That's really rude question to ask her! Consider the interogating, somewhat demeaning and demanding tone of it. It shows no class whatsoever.

But, it could also jog the old memory and make her think of some she's long ago forgotten...
It's not pushy unless you phrase it like, "I think you should do 'blank'." If you phrase it like, "I really love 'blank' and wonder if you've thought of it or any others lately that you could tell us you've either worked on or considered?" That just shows you know her music and really appreciate it.

BTW, if you have an iPhone, recording is incredibly easy. You just go to voice memo, hit record, and let the iPhone sit there. I've recorded press conferences and class lectures that way. You don't have to hold it out, or anything, so no risk of getting caught. But do whatever you're comfortable with--we'll obviously be happy to have anything.:)

Hi everybody-
Thanks for the feedback and advice. I have decided however to ask a question of a totally different nature, nothing to do with demos. This could change however if a)I don't get the chance b)something pops in my mind in the moment c)I may go back to the demo question so it's all tbd but let me put it this way - if I ask the question I'm thinking of right now you all will be very happy as it is relavant to all of us!
I can't believe I'm going to be sitting just feet away from Stevie later tonight listening to her for probably 2 hours, just wow!! I feel so damn lucky I could scream! Please know that when I have these opportunities I am thinking of other fans who may not get such an opportunity so please know you all are in my heart as we share this special time to honor our Queen. I will try and record audio and potentially video with my phone but may not be able to post but will do everything in my power to try. I think Jamie will be better off in that dept...
So Jaims and Bec, whats the plan for tonight girls? I won't be there until about 6 so I guess we'll have just enough time to get our tickets from the box office and line up. I did read that members of the foundation and other "special" people will have priority seating but I'm willing to push people down and climb over chairs if necessary ;).

i can be very critical of stevie, but this show truly made me fall in love with her all over again.
she looked very cute. she wore her bella donna black boots, legwarmers, leggings, a black blouse with a lace top over it, her black blazer and no gloves.
she was very candid during her interview - people would yell out answers when she couldn't recall a name or location. she made a lot of funny remarks, many i can't remember but i'm sure someone will detail this.
the audience questions were exceptional. one young man prefaced his question with "my name is justin, just in case you want to dedicate a song to me someday..." when she started landslide, she said "well, justin..."
he asked her what two songs she would put in a time capsule to be opened in decades from now, one of her own, and one belonging to someone else. she named "moonlight", because it's her current favorite - and named three belonging to others. the first one, i can't recall. the second, was "fire & rain" by james taylor. the third was "danny's song" by kenny loggins.
i will continue to update everyone with other memories of the interview/q&a portions.
it was nice to see a lot of stevie's crew up-against the wall for the entire show. waddy, sharon, carlos, steve, eilynn, karen, and marty. most of them ended up sitting on the floor.
she performed "landslide" first, with just waddy, then "for what it's worth" with michael grimm, waddy, sharon, and carlos.
she continued over to the piano, sat down to play "rhiannon", stopped a few bars in and exclaimed the necessity of her glasses. she put on her usual aviators; now we know - they're prescription.
after that, the executive director of the grammy museum asked for one more. she discussed how she only knew a few chords and they are the basis for most of her songs - to demonstrate this, she'd play her current favorite "moonlight". i'll be uploading that shortly, no video - just audio.
it was an incredible show - i'm so glad for the opportunity lindsay (sapphiresister) gave me with her gift of a ticket.

My mind is still racing, so here's a few things that stood out to me tonight:
Stevie did some pretty funny imitations of Dave, but my favorite accent was Christine's! She spoke as Christine asking Stevie why she wrote so many songs and that if she stopped now, late 70's, she would never have to write another song, because she has enough. I'm paraphrasing.
When Stevie sat at the piano, she forgot her glasses on the table she was seated by. So she said she would try to play without them, then landed up getting up anyway and starting the song over. I thought it was sweet that she wanted to get it right. She said she would sing it the same way she originally sang it for Lindsey and Richard? in 1972. It was so beautiful, I couldn't believe it. When she sang Moonlight, she had me frozen.
Of course I loved it when she spoke about Lindsey, she said they will always be each others miserable muses.
The look on her face when the interviewer asked her if she and Lindsey keep in touch was priceless. Total deadpan.
She was funny and gave interesting answers. I hope someone can remember everything better than me and post them here. ;)
The only sad part to me is when she spoke about how much she loved teaching kids, that it made her think she would have been a good teacher, and a good mother.
She was wonderful, and I think we could have listened to her for hours more.

the audience questions were exceptional. one young man prefaced his question with "my name is justin, just in case you want to dedicate a song to me someday..." when she started landslide, she said "well, justin..."

They just showed footage of this on Fox & Friends Morning. Snippet of FWIW and an interview. Talking about teaching kids. Greta then said her new cd, In Your Dreams, is currently #6 on the Billboard Top 200. lol! Was great to wake up to this!

Thanks for sharing.I hope they will notice her and give her a nomination nod.
Well, that was $50.00 WELL-SPENT! I'd almost rather see something like this once or twice a year than go see a live show. :-) She is a riot of an interview! And, most of the stories she told, I've probably heard several times before (I'm sure most of us in the audience had), but when you're sitting 6-7 feet away from her hearing her speak live, it didn't matter. It was like hearing it for the first time. I think of all the questions, my favorite answer was Stevie talking about the Edge walk. She said nowadays, she gets tired and it kills her back to bend down for that stretch of the stage and there are nights she doesn't want to do it (for that reason), but "if it's important to the fans, it's important to me" and as long as she can (physically) do the edge walk, she will continue to do it. She talked about how there are nights she says she's NOT going to do the walk because she's too tired or her back hurts and then when she is doing the song and gets to the end, and she sees everyone at the stage holding their arms up and she knows she has to do it. Honestly, you had to see her facial expression of what her take was of the fans reaching up for her to get the full effect. Priceless.
As for it being taped, I was told they tape it for the museum's archive, but they don't sell them to the public because they'd have to pay the artist. That's a shame. They don't allow you to take pictures at these programs, which is unfortunate. I know in the museum itself they don't allow pictures either. Last night was a combo of both Stevie and the musuem not allowing it.
But what an experience. Stevie offered her services if they asked her back to the museum and I sure hope they do. It was a very special experience to be sure and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

i thought it was hilarious when she was finished with doing the piano rendition of Rhiannon and right before she started up with Moonlight, she says to the audience: "i just want to point out to everyone, because I think it'll be interesting, how few chords i know and how, like Waddy says, it's like I'm just writing one long song..." she then starts the few chords from Rhiannon and then shifts it so that it becomes Edge of 17, sings a few lines, to prove how similar they are.
she's so self deprecating. i just adore her.
it was spectacular last night and i feel so lucky to have been able to have gone!

Someone should definitely ask her if she is planning on taking another decade long break after IYD and if she is ever going to bring Sisters of the Moon back.
hey! just so ya know, some one did end up asking about Sisters of the Moon last night!
i couldn't really remember the full response that Stevie gave, but it was very much like the one i got from her at when i went to the signing at Amoeba. she basically said that SOTM was a Fleetwood Mac song, some songs go out of rotation and that was one of them. but, there is always the possibility of it coming back....
well, that was the gist of it!

Stevie Nicks entertained and educated high school students and fans Wednesday at two sessions at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles. She touched on everything from her childhood to her recently released album "In Your Dreams," providing the audience with imitations of her Fleetwood Mac bandmates Christine McVie and Lindsey Buckingham, tales of poverty and success and revelations about her past. Here are a dozen she shared.
1. "Moonlight" -- currently her favorite song on the new album "In Your Dreams" -- was written after she saw "The Twilight Saga: New Moon." "I saw it while we were on the road with Fleetwood Mac in Australia. I was so taken by the movie that I wrote a five-page essay after seeing it and went back to see it the next night in Brisbane. I had a piano in my room and I wrote ("Moonlight")."
2. There is music in the vaults from the "Fleetwood Mac" and "Rumours" sessions. "Lots of stuff -- lots of songs that turned into other songs. It could get released some day."
3. On the making of Fleetwood Mac's double album "Tusk" in 1979: "'Tusk' was 13 months at Village Recorders. Lindsey had tusks on the wall and all these weird Polaroids. I thought this must be what hell is like. With speakers. I felt like I was watching weirdo spirits. It's a lot more fun to tell stories about that record than it was to live through it."
4. Two non-music projects she would like to do are make a film of the mythological stories of Rhiannon and turn her children's story/song "Goldfish and the Ladybug" into a cartoon.
5. In 2005, after the Fleetwood Mac "Say You Will" tour, Nicks wanted to make a solo album. "I was told by people in the industry now is not a good time to make a record. Your best bet is to stay on tour and get while the getting is good. I was so overwhelmed by that. It was the first time anyone had ever told me that I shouldn't (make music). I was horrified. But if I had done a record then, maybe I wouldn't have done this record ("In Your Dreams")."
6. The first time she wore her "uniform" of black leggings, boots, vest/riding jacket and top hat was at a sixth grade talent show where she dance to Buddy Holly's "Every Day."
7. She would love to record a song with Lyle Lovett.
8. Key influences: Grandfather was a country musician; she loved pop-R&B she heard on the radio in the fourth, fifth and sixth grade; and her parents would play Mahalia Jackson records on weekends.
9. The practice of getting gifts -- stuffed animals, flowers, scarves, etc., -- from fans at the end of a show began on the tour for "Bella Donna" at the former Beverly Wilshire Theater in Beverly Hills. "Some times when I start a show I feel too tired to do it because sometimes it takes 15 minutes to go across the front of the stage. But even if my back is breaking I do it. And I'll always do it. If it's important to the fans then it's important to me."
10. Her traveling makeup kit has a photograph she took with George Harrison in 1977 in Hana, Hawaii.
11. Songs she wanted to sing when she arrived in Los Angeles in the early 1970s: The Beatles' "Yesterday," James Taylor's "Fire and Rain" and Kenny Loggins' "Danny's Song."
12. Her favorite venue on the recent tour was San Francisco's Fillmore Auditorium. "I saw Janis Joplin there and Jimi Hendrix and I wondered how I was going to get from the floor to the stage. (The owners) know what they have and they have kept it (intact). You can feel the spirits of the past. I'd love to go up there and do 15 shows."

Where to begin...let's just start by saying it was the most amazing Stevie experience of my life besides meeting her backstage during SYW of course. I have a million thoughts racing through my head right now and certain things still haven't sunk in. Sorry this is going to be long but well worth the read. Also keep in mind I don't have a great memory but I will try to be as accurate as possible and if I'm wrong feel free to correct me. The Stevie gods were definitely with me last night!
So I was able to get tickets because I have a business acquaintance that works for The Grammy foundation so I didn't have to deal with over-paying on Craig's list which was nice although I would have. I bought 2 tickets and our fellow Ledgie Liam met me there. No line at box office and we were good to go. Then I noticed there were only 3 people in line ahead of us which I thought was kind of odd but after talking to Jamie I discovered all the people were in line upstairs in the museum because they were "members". Since I am not a member I had to be in the outside line. Needless to say you guys who know me know that would not do so I talked myself into getting upstairs lol. When I got there there was a huge line of people and I thought, oh boy, this doesn't look good and figured I would just sneak in line somewhere when they started letting people in. I was under the assumption that the doors didn't open till 7:30 so at 7:15 I went to the bathroom. When I came out the line was gone and everybody had gone in. Needless to say I panicked and ran into the theatre. There was one single seat way over to the left side kind of by itself in the 5th row so I took it. The good news is the piano was directly in front of me. After I sat down somebody that works at the museum walked in to the front of the room and announced my name. "Is there a Lindsay *** here?" in front of everyone. I almost died, my heart sank. 2 things crossed my mind - Stevie was asking for me personally to go back to her dressing room or I was being kicked out for doing something bad lol. Well it was neither. When I went to the restroom I had left my ticket stub and CD on a table and forgot to take it back b/c when I came out the line was gone so I ran. Apparently one of the members of the staff saw it and brought it in. Anyway it was quite embarrassing. I seriously thought for a moment Stevie was summoning me lololol!!!
Moving on, of course I was a stressing slightly about not being in the first couple of rows and could have kicked myself for using the bathroom but all of the sudden this woman in the first row turns around and asks, "Are you by yourself?" to which I respond yes and she offers me the isle seat behind her in the second row literally 5 feet from the piano! Obviously I accepted and felt like the luckiest girl in the world! :blob1:
So Stevie came out and the director of the museum talked to her for a while. Mainly about joining Fleetwood Mac. Not that this is unusual but Stevie seriously mentioned Lindsey's name a least 100 times. I mean really, it's like he should have just been there but she was there to represent him. At one point she said they were each other's m&m's which meant something beginning with an m (help someone) muses. Morbid, no...melancholy, no...miserable. I give up but someone will remember. She also shard that she had been at the museum all day because they bussed school kids in and she got to work with them on music. She talked about how she would have been a teacher if she hadn't been a rock star. Something significant that stood out for me is she mentioned being a mother but I can't tell you exactly what the context was but it was something profound. I'm sure someone else remembers. As someone else mentioned she told a lot of the same stories that we've heard hundreds of times but they never get old hearing them directly from her lips and there's always new details being added. Then he asked her about Rumours, Tusk, and Bella Donna and of course In You Dreams. That is the very short version.
Moving on, the q&a started and as many of you know I was determined to ask a question. I had finally decided not to ask about the demos and was deciding between asking her what she wanted her legacy to be or if I could come up and give her a hug. Well turns out I didn't get the chance and in the end it was totally fine by me. Some people asked great questions...one asked if she could dedicate Landslide to him (Justin) and after the q&a she did! She was like, "I'm still really smart, I catch everything". It was soooo cute and sweet. Another girl started totally gushing over here and was like "You are my muse, I love you , you are my inspiration, etc. and she wrote a book and the main character was inspired by Stevie and then she asked if she could hand Stevie the book and security took it from here and handed it to Stevie. Stevie responded that she might just read the book tonight lol. Several people asked questions about songwriting in particular and how she writes in terms of transferring from her journals and chords and melodies and then to be quite honest I got lost b/c I was obsessing on which question to ask her. My Anna (you go girl) asked if she would bring back Sisters of the Moon!! I almost died! Stevie said that some songs were really just Mac songs and that was one of them but that it was a possibility if it was with them. Yeah baby!! Another person asked if she could have a time capsule and put 2 songs in it (one hers and one not hers) and she responded that she gets this type of question all the time (kind of a "what is your favorite song you wrote" and she said it's whatever song she is into at that time and at this particular time it was Moonlight. As for the other song she mentioned 3 but I didn't recognize them so I can't tell you. One was a Kenny Loggins song though. There is a lot more I could type but don't want to turn this into a novel...
On to the performance. First she did Landslide acoustic with just her and Waddy. She dedicated it to Justin and talked about the fact that she's played it so much but it's just one of those she'll keep playing forever. It was the most powerful Landslide performance I've ever seen, I was choked up being that close and the speaker was right in front of my face so I could hear her voice so loud and clear. What a totally different experience than being at a concert to hear her like this *swoon*. Then Carlos and Sharon came out and they did the always adorable For What it's Worth, hand motions included! That was one of the highlights of the Wiltern show so I was happy to see it once again.
Now onto the best part, whew! As I mentioned I was in the second row so basically I was only a few feet from her and the piano. She focused a lot on her playing skills and how she was totally out of practice and that she learned a lesson that she needs to start practicing again now! She started it and then had to stop and get her aviators which are apparently her prescription glasses and then started again. Words cannot describe how I felt. It was as if I was in her living room and she was playing piano for me, you know the dream so many of us have?? It was surreal, like I had to pinch myself. Her voice was so clear, so raw, I could hear every intonation and note. To be it was not good or bad, it was perfect just to hear it in that quality and environment. And then of course Moonlight on piano. What a monumentous moment to be a part of, I could have never predicted it and it is hands down my favorite performance of all time (partly since I was close-up and personal). I finally understood what the song was about and the connection to Twilight as well as her and Lindsey. I mean I really can't even describe the feeling I had you guys. I felt so close to her in those moments. I could see and hear her emotion like never before and it finally all kind of came together just why I am so in love with this woman. My God she is so talented, a true musician and that is putting it mildly.
Now (drum roll), the highlight of the evening!!! Forget the hug! When Stevie came in she entered from the opposite side from where my seat was but as she was walking out (I was standing right on the isle) she went to the other side (my side), looked me in the eye and grabbed my hands in hers and we had a moment!! I seriously could not believe this happened and to me, no one else!! I would cry, or die!". I know that everyone thinks this and feels this way when they meet Stevie but I swear to God she recognized me and I think that is why she acknowledged me and came to me and grabbed me. I know I could be totally tripping but I don't think so and plus, love is what you believe it is, right? After that I turned around to leave and I was frozen. I literally just stood there mesmerized like a robot thinking, "how did this just happen?". My heart is pounding now just reliving the moment. Seriously one of the most special nights of my life.
*Going to add as I remember additional details and forgive me if they have already been shared:
-She talked about the fact that she never got married (but acknowledged she was for a short time which she rarely volunteers!) and said that her Grandfather (or father?) told her from a very young age she would never get married so she always knew.
-She really emphasized the fact that she's heavily influenced by R&B and how she's a combo of this with country.
-Oh this was so cute! Before Rhiannon started and she was telling the story she said something along the lines of "I have an old cassette tape from back in the day of an early version of Rhiannon where you can here me saying Lindsey, isn't Rhiannon a beautiful name and he actually responded yes Stevie it, it is which was really shocking to me". Not only was it funny what she said but I felt a little bad because we've had this demo for years and it sounded honestly like she wasn't aware of that.
Sending love to Anna, Jamie, Becca, Liam, and the Ledgie 3 seats down from me who introduced himself (sorry I forgot your name!). Marisa, how did we miss each other?!
My seat was directly behind the woman on the right.

At one point she said they were each other's m&m's which meant something beginning with an m (help someone) muses.
"miserable muses" was what Stevie was referring to as them being each others' m&m's since she and Lindsey write so many songs about each other.
One thing I noticed when they were talking about Tusk, was Stevie mentioned Sara being on the album "if I do say so myself", which brought applause. Then she mentioned Storms was on that album too and I noticed she also mentioned "Gypsy" referring to it being on Tusk. Oops!
Sounds like you got my original seat as I was sitting in the second row aisle on the left for the same reason - to be able to see her play the piano. Then, I saw someone who worked at the museum offer up a front row center seat when a VIP didn't show up and I high-tailed it over there! What a wonderful night it was. I'd love to repeat that night again and soon!

Joe68, I was heartbroken I couldn't go, so thank you so much for posting this.
I love that she mentioned Goldfish and Ladybug, I always loved that song. Did she say that she knew people have heard it? I wonder if she ended up checking out YouTube after Secret Love tuned up there (by the mysterious stranger who held onto that cassette tape for 30 years until the invention of YouTube, of course)
And I love that she talked about the Village Recorder. I recently made a pilgrimage there and posted in this forum about it. I was just in complete awe being so close to the place where one of my all time favorite albums was made. Even watching the Tusk doc, I don't think any of us have considered how grueling it must have been to spent a whole year making this record with all the drama of failed relationships and such.

Stevie Nicks spent Wednesday afternoon and evening discussing her career and ambitions for the future for two different audiences at Los Angeles' Grammy Museum. She first spoke to 200 high school students about songwriting and her career, and then to an audience of fans. She performed three songs for the students -- "Landslide," "For What It's Worth" from her recent "In Your Dreams" album, and "Rhiannon" -- doing the same at the evening session but adding "Moonlight (A Vampire's Dream)."
"I went to San Jose State for five years, majoring in speech communication and psychology. I was going to be some kind of teacher," Nicks said. "Doing this with this type of program [with students] makes me realize I would have loved it. It's a real cool give-and-take thing. It also makes me feel like I would have been a really great mother."
Interviewed by museum executive director Robert Santelli, Nicks was forthcoming about joining Fleetwood Mac in early 1975. "We met at a Mexican restaurant," she recalled. "I thought 'These people are a riot" -- the stress of working with Lindsey Buckingham after their romance broke up and the way she has balanced songwriting, a solo career and Fleetwood Mac tours.
"Lindsey is my miserable muse, which is important to have," she said.
Fleetwood Mac Could Tour, Record Again Says Lindsey Buckingham
One particular bump occurred in in 2005 after the Fleetwood Mac "Say You Will" tour. At the time Nicks wanted to make a solo album.
"I was told by people in the industry: 'Now is not a good time to make a record,' " she said. " 'Your best bet is to stay on tour and get while the getting is good.' I was so overwhelmed by that. It was the first time anyone had ever told me that I shouldn't [make music]. I was horrified. But if I had done a record then, maybe I wouldn't have done ['In Your Dreams']."
Having finished the album -- her first in a decade -- and two tours this year, Nicks said she would like to explore two visual media projects: Turning the mythological stories of Rhiannon into a film and making a cartoon out of "Goldfish and the Ladybug," a song and children's story that she's had on back burner for decades.
Nicks brought members of her band with her, including veteran guitarist Waddy Wachtel, who was being followed by a film crew for the day (who were filming a documentary, details of which were elusive). Wachtel told the kids the story of the evolution of the late Warren Zevon's "Werewolves of London": It started with Phil Everly giving Zevon the title, who then mentioned it to Wachtel, who wrote the first verse, basically as a joke. Zevon then finished the song with LeRoy Marinell. The extra connection to Nicks? Fleetwood Mac's Mick Fleetwood and John McVie backed Zevon on the original recording with Wachtel.

Jamie! Where are you? lol...waiting for your input.
Lindsay, I loved reading your post! It was wonderful to see you...and Anna, and all the other Ledgies, and Marisa, I didn't have a chance to say hi, so hi! :D
One more thing I forgot to post that was one of my favorite Stevie moments from last night- when she stood at her mic to sing, her mic was bare, no beads or ribbons hanging...so she kept moving her fingers trying to touch what was NOT there. She finally noticed and laughed and said she felt like a blind person. The faces she makes are so adorable!

Stevie's time capsule choices totally remind me of my mom. I love it. James Taylor and Kenny Loggins are like my moms favorite artists, among others.

I only heard Stevie "impersonate" Dave Stewart ("dahling, we don't have to use it if you don't like it" in an English accent) referring to writing songs together. She did Christine McVie (which someone already posted). She did the accent again only higher than when she did Dave's. ;) If she impersonated Lindsey, I don't remember it. But she was so on fire in that interview, she could have!

Stevie Nicks: 12 Revelations From the Grammy Museum Event
2:57 PM PDT 10/20/2011 by Phil Gallo
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/stevie-nicks-fleetwood-mac-grammy-251494
The singer talks Fleetwood Mac, her solo career and which one of her recent tunes was inspired by “The Twilight Saga.”
Stevie Nicks entertained and educated high school students and fans Wednesday, Oct. 19 at two sessions at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles. She touched on everything from her childhood to her recently released album In Your Dreams, providing the audience with imitations of her Fleetwood Mac bandmates Christine McVie and Lindsey Buckingham, tales of poverty and success and revelations about her past. Here are a dozen she shared.
1. "Moonlight" -- currently her favorite song on the new album In Your Dreams -- was written after she saw The Twilight Saga: New Moon. "I saw it while we were on the road with Fleetwood Mac in Australia. I was so taken by the movie that I wrote a five-page essay after seeing it and went back to see it the next night in Brisbane. I had a piano in my room and I wrote ("Moonlight")."
2. There is music in the vaults from the Fleetwood Mac and Rumours sessions. "Lots of stuff -- lots of songs that turned into other songs. It could get released some day."
3. On the making of Fleetwood Mac's double album Tusk in 1979: "Tusk was 13 months at Village Recorders.
5. In 2005, after the Fleetwood Mac Say You Will tour, Nicks wanted to make a solo album. "I was told by people in the industry now is not a good time to make a record. Your best bet is to stay on tour and get while the getting is good. I was so overwhelmed by that. It was the first time anyone had ever told me that I shouldn't (make music). I was horrified. But if I had done a record then, maybe I wouldn't have done this record (In Your Dreams)."
6. The first time she wore her "uniform" of black leggings, boots, vest/riding jacket and top hat was at a sixth grade talent show where she dance to Buddy Holly’s "Every Day."
7. She would love to record a song with Lyle Lovett.
8. Key influences: Grandfather was a country musician; she loved pop-R&B she heard on the radio in the fourth, fifth and sixth grade; and her parents would play Mahalia Jackson records on weekends.
9. The practice of getting gifts -- stuffed animals, flowers, scarves, etc., -- from fans at the end of a show began on the tour for Bella Donna at the former Beverly Wilshire Theater in Beverly Hills.
11. Songs she wanted to sing when she arrived in Los Angeles in the early 1970s: The Beatles’ "Yesterday," James Taylor’s "Fire and Rain" and Kenny Loggins’ "Danny's Song."

Probably just referring to her saying that Lindsey said Rhiannon was a beautiful name. But it does beg an important question. Does she have a Lindsey voice?

LOL Has she even been nominated 17 times?
I have noticed in some interviews and even on ellen show when she last performed they said multi grammy winner Stevie Nicks, She only won one and that was with Fleetwood Mac for album of the year 1977 Rumours. She has never won a grammy as a solo artists, several nominations as a solo artist but no solo wins. Its funny she keeps adding more and more during each interview and love this won that she has won 17 grammy's...lol She deserves at least one solo grammy and we all hope its for In Your Dreams. She does deserve it for this album and hope she get some nominations and wins at least one.

Kinda new here, at least to posting, so please be patient?
I have really enjoyed all the great postings...
It is just my speculation as to the possible reason for Stevie Nicks' "dead-pan"
reaction to the Lindsey question.....
Portion of an interview by Lindsey Buckingham
Mac's Buckingham going his own way
LV Review Journal
Buckingham says it's just a coincidence the two Fleetwood
Mac stars -- and ex-lovers in the '70s -- are gigging in
Vegas separately on the same weekend.
However, he says the reason Nicks is staging a Vegas show
at all is to earn money to cover her costs of putting on a
birthday concert for the former Mr. President.
"To get the band up and running (even for one night) is
not an inexpensive proposition. So I think (Nicks') idea
was to do the Las Vegas show (and a few other tour dates)
just to subsidize that effort," Buckingham says. "That's
my understanding of it, anyway. That's how it was put to
me."
Struck me as kinda snide. ???
But then I am somewhat prejudiced....

Technically she is a multi grammy award winner. In 1978, if the band is listed as a producer then the members of the band get two grammys! One for being an artist and another for being a producer. Cheap trick, but it works in making her sound captivating. Apparently she was nominated eight times solo and nine times with fm so she had a total of seventeen noms so the station just flubbed I guess.

She also won a Grammy Hall Of Fame Award with Fleetwood Mac in 2003.
Apparently in her solo career she's the most nominated female artist who has never actually won a Grammy, tho.

Every fan of Stevie's would like her to do a full album of just her singing and playing the piano. Heck, I'd like to see her do a whole concert this way. No band, just our girl. Also playing some songs on acoustic guitar also. She would sell so many tickets even she would be flabberghasted.

Ok, here's my review of the evening. Sorry it took a couple days. I had to work, and then after work the next day I was so tired. I finally finished typing it all up. It's kinda long, and I'm sorry if some of the stuff has been mentioned before. This, like all the other reviews I do for myself, is going into my Stevie binder.
Here’s my story of another AMAZING Stevie event I was lucky enough to attend this year. Becca was kind enough to tell me what she knew about this event the night of the Anaheim show (last wed). She didn’t have a lot of details, but was going to find out. The next day, she messaged me to call her if I wanted a ticket – she was at the box office about to purchase them. There were only 200 available, as this is a tiny theater. The tickets were $50, and of course I wanted one. Unfortunately, Kim was unable to go, but encouraged me to go. So I decided I’d work half a day, bring a change of clothes, and drive out to LA. I got there at 3:15 or so, and was only the 3rd in line. Becca arrived later and met up with me. The time waiting flew by (as usual) and soon it was 6:30 and they were starting the will call process of giving us our tickets. We were each given an “In Your Dreams” cd as well. After we got our tickets, we headed inside to another line, and then they let us in the theater at 7:15. It was TINY. It didn’t even look big enough to have 200 seats! The stage was about a foot high, and small. They were playing the IYD cd as we walked in. I scored 3rd row center seats for Becca and I. We were about 11 feet from the stage. They enforced a strict no recording of any kind policy, per their rules and the artist’s management. While waiting, I noticed my friend Justin got in.
The following notes are taken from the notes I took down by hand at the event in a little notebook. I didn’t get everything, because I was trying to strike a balance between getting notes and also enjoying the time I was spending with Stevie. I mean, she was right in front of me – I didn’t want to have my head down, writing the whole time. In the end, I think I did pretty good.
At 8pm, the moderator, “Bob”, came out and talked a little about the museum and the theater. He also talked about the kids that Stevie held an event with earlier in the afternoon here. It was a music teaching event. The kids were about Jr. High age. He mentioned he saw some really dedicated fans outside at 4pm. Then he introduced Stevie, “Welcome to an evening with Stevie Nicks!” Everyone stood and applauded as she came out.
She wasn’t wearing her glasses! (I had been told she was wearing them earlier at the kids’ event). She had her feathers in her hair. She was wearing boots, bunchy tight legwarmers, black pants, black jacket and she was also wearing a white lacey shirt over her black tank top. Her hair was wavy. She had her gold moon necklace on along with a couple others. She opened by talking about the kids she had spent time with earlier, and how she loved it. She said it made her feel like she would have been a great teacher and… a great mother. Everyone kind of went, “awww…”.
Bob mentioned her new record, and she talked about it. She started it right after the FM tour, as she didn’t want to waste time because of her age. She wanted to “hit the ground running”. She sent Dave Stewart a book of 40 poems, which he read. She told the story about how he came back to her house and said, “I like this poem”, let’s start recording. Stevie wasn’t ready for that. Dave said to her that he read all of the poems and now she doesn’t want to do this? She said she was used to how it worked with Lindsey where she put a tape by the coffee pot with a note that said, “ here’s the song, don’t change it.” <stevie looked at me when she said this ;)> We all laughed at that. She said her and Lindsey are each others’ “Miserable Muses, M&Ms”. She brought up the song, “You may Be the One” and she sang, “You may be the one, but you’ll never be the one. You may be my love, but you’ll never be my love” and then she said, “I mean, that’s beautiful” She said DS has no ego. He was a good and different producer because of his sense of humor and that he was laughing all the time. She said with Lindsey he’d be wanting to change the tense or person, and she’d tell him, now would you say that to Bob Dillon? <she looked at me again and I laughed at that, along with everyone else> She said she was happy Dave never wanted to edit down her songs and that he used the whole thing. She is more proud of this record than anything else she’s ever done. She said Rumours was good, but it was hard. Bob asked, why? And she gave him this hilarious, sideways look like, are you kidding me?? Audience cracked up. Then she talked about doing Soldiers Angel with Lindsey and that he was the only one that could help her with it. She said when Lindsey came over he was always laughing because Dave had like 15 Flip cameras everywhere, always filming. She said Lindsey couldn’t help but laugh at that.
Bob asked why it took 10 years to do this album. She mentioned internet piracy, and that her management suggested just to continue touring solo and with FM, to get while the getting is good, because no one knew where the music business was going at that point. So she just said, ok.
Bob said touring can be a grind, do you still love it? She said, I do. I enjoy performing, it’s a great job. Hard work, but not a hard job.
Bob asked if she had a sense of the success of Fleetwood Mac in the very beginning? She said yes, then talked about Mick’s phone call to them on New Years’ Eve. She said she knew who FM was, but they weren’t yet super popular in the USA. She listened to their records back to front. <she looked at me again> Then she told Lindsey that she thought they should give it a try and join their band, even though they were bluesy, and BN was more rock. And she told LB that she was tired of being a waitress! She said, I’ll really be singing the blues if I have to continue to be a waitress! She talked about the car she and LB had and that it didn’t go in reverse which made parking a challenge. They met FM at a Mexican restaurant, and she found out later that Mick and John had left it up to Christine to decide if we could join. She said there was never any jealousy between her and Chris. She said Lindsey was handsome and great, but moody, and these people were a riot! Laughter from the audience. She said in FM it was really fair because if you wrote the song, you got to sing lead on it. She also said they were like the Eagles with the three part harmonies. She said everything happened really fast – in May 1975 they started and by November they were millionaires. She then put in her notice and quit waitressing. She said “Rhiannon” came from Buckingham Nicks.
Bob asked, Why did Tusk get better as it got older? Stevie said she didn’t even know what “Tusk” meant. (The song) She said Lindsey did not want to do “another Rumours”. She added that the white USC horse, “Traveler” is on her new cd. She said it felt like being in the middle of hell recording Tusk. There were weird decorations, giant tusks, and weird paintings everywhere. They were crushing vases, Mick was walking around wearing a wet suit, complete with fins, and stepped on crushed glass with them.(laughter) They recorded all these sounds. She said it was a record of searching for sounds. It took 13 months. It became a double album, which the music company didn’t want, but people didn’t like to say no to LB. She said, “Sara was on it, if I do say so myself.” <looked at me again> It had crazy stuff, then more mainstream stuff on it.
Bob asked, why did you go solo? She said there wasn’t enough room for her songs. Then she imitates Christine, in a high-shrill accented voice, “She never will run out of songs – always writing.” Stevie said she needed another vehicle, she had so many songs. She met Jimmy Iovine, and signed with Atlantic and did Bella Donna.
Bob asked when her writing started. She said as a kid her Mom gave her a journal/diary and told her to write down her dreams, and it would always be private – no one would look in it, it was just for Stevie. Stevie said she still writes in her journal every day, like last night she wrote about how she thought today (the event) would be. Then tonight she’ll write about today. She writes right away about events, she doesn’t wait because it could change in her mind. She got started in music with her Grandfather. Early influences included R&B music, and church hymns. She said her family didn’t go to church, because they were always moving, not that that is a good excuse. She listened to church hymns instead with her parents. She said driving around she’d be sitting in the back of the car singing R&B tunes, and her parents were like, who are you? They usually listened to country in the car, which Stevie described as kinda corny, but cool. She said she still slips into R&B sometimes when she sings. She said Lindsey liked The Beatles a lot more than her, but some Beatles songs she loved.
Bob asked her about her “look”. She said in 6th grade she did a talent show to Buddy Holly’s “Everyday”, then she sung a couple verses. She wore a top hat, vest, black tights, gloves – exactly what I wear on stage now! (laughter) My Mom said, ‘you’ve always wanted a uniform.’ She said she met designer Margi Kent when she was on tour with FM. She made her a uniform with black chiffon, a riding jacket, platform boots, top hat, and gloves. It worked for her so she said, Margi – make me 5 sets of that. She talked about her legwarmers she was wearing on her pants, and that Prince got the idea of those from her. She said she didn’t want to be a chameleon, like Madonna, she didn’t want to have to worry about what she was going to wear.
Then Bob said it was time to take some questions from the audience. My stomach went to butterflies, but I still wanted to ask her a question. I didn’t take note of all of the audience questions, as I was trying to mentally prepare myself for mine. I think she took about 7-8 questions from the audience, and I was about the 4th person chosen. I was fortunate because a lot of people were raising their hands. They had told us in the beginning that if you had a question, try to make it a good one, as this program was going to be taped and archived for the Grammy Museum. They told us to try to get to the question and not hyperbole and say things like, I saw you in ‘77 and then in ‘79, etc. When Bob called on me, I stood up, butterflies and all, and I asked Stevie, “When you look at your poems, and you go to turn them into songs, how do you decide if it’s going to be a slow-tempo, fast- tempo, or bluesy type, song?” I got out the question with no problem, I couldn’t believe it! I slowly sat back down in my seat as she began to answer. At that moment I remember thinking, Stevie Nicks is going to answer MY question! It was an amazing feeling. She looked right at me the entire time she answered. I was little fuzzy when this was happening, but the gist of her answer was that it depended on the meaning of the song, when it was written, what was going on at the time. She also said that it depended on what the producer at the time did with it, and whether she thought it sounded good the way they produced it. If not, then she’d tell them they’d try a different way. She said there were no “rules” or anything. Her answer was a lot longer and more complex than I can remember, but that is the gist of it. As she was answering, I was listening and looking right back at her, but at the same time I was thinking, I can’t believe she’s talking to me right now! (I know- total Fan Girl!) Anyway, a little birdie told me that they have this on audio, and I am waiting for that as I write this. That will be awesome!!
Someone asked her about what she sees when she does the Edge Walk and when it started. Stevie said she doesn’t know exactly when it started, maybe back in the first solo tour at a venue in Beverly Hills. She said she doesn’t know how exactly she started getting all these “creepy stuffed animals” (laughter), books, notes, paintings. She said sometimes she’s too tired and she’ll say to herself, there’s no way I can do it tonight – just no way, I’m exhausted being with the boots, etc. But then she said she looks over (she looked over to her right), and she sees all these people (reaches out), and she has to. She said she will continue to do it until she can’t anymore. She said it’s become its own mystical, magical thing.
Someone asked her about the possibility of adding “Sisters of the Moon” back into her set. After they asked this, Stevie grabbed her moon on her necklace and kind of held it out. (cute) She replied that it was a FM song and maybe it could be added back into the set in the future. There was more to this answer but I didn’t get all of it.
Another question was from a guy who prefaced his question by thanking Stevie for the wonderful year it’s been, and described it as being, “Stevielicious”. He asked about future projects. She mentioned the Rhiannon film she wanted to do and the story of the “Goldfish and Ladybug” maybe becoming a cartoon.
Then my friend Justin was called on. He started off by saying, Hi Stevie. My name is Justin, in case you ever need or want to dedicate a song to me. Everyone laughed and Stevie kind of smirked at him. His question was, if she could put 2 songs in a time capsule, one by her and one by another artist, what would they be? She thought for a minute and said, hard question! She decided on “Moonlight” for herself, and the other she couldn’t decide on just one. So she gave three – James Taylor’s “Fire and Rain”, Beatles’ “Yesterday” and Kenny Loggins’ “Danny’s Song”.
Another person asked what she looks to to cheer herself up. She said the people around her. She mentioned being single and said her grandfather wrote a song about staying single. She sang a couple verses of it. She said people like Lori, Sharon, Karen, her musical partners. She said , “I’m happy to be able to do this for you guys (referring to us in the audience). “ I love my job – I love what I do.”
There were a couple other questions, but I didn’t get them, as I noted before. Next it was time for Stevie to do some songs.
Waddy came out and they kind of moved stuff around on the stage to put the mic in the middle. Stevie went up to the mic and said something like,”‘Ok- this is…Justin…” Everyone started laughing and she said, “people think I don’t listen and don’t remember… I’m like that creepy 2nd grade teacher with eyes in the back of her head.” The she went on to talk about the song she was going to do, Landslide, saying that it’s the one that’s lasted forever and everyone wants to hear. She’ll say, how about something else? and they’ll say no. So she respects this song for that reason. She dedicated it to all of us and to the “Grammy people”. She sounded great as she did “Landslide”. Then Sharon, Carlos Rios, and Michael Grimm came out, and she introduced each of them. The next song they were about to do was “For What it’s Worth”. She talked about the creation of the song and of the video for the song. She talked about being on a bus touring back in the day, and that now she uses air travel. Then, she referenced MY question and said, “You (me!) were asking about the songwriting process…” and then she proceeded to tell about how when she wrote it Dave was stuck overseas due to a volcano, and something about a formal poem and that she wrote it on her piano. I was so stoked she referenced my question! As she was talking she was standing in front of her mic and moving her hands behind the mic stand. She noticed herself doing this and said, “I’m looking for strings on my mic and they’re not there. I feel like I’m blind!” (laughter) Right before the song started I told Becca that we needed to do the pantomiming along with Stevie when she performs this song. Becca seemed like she wasn’t sure if she wanted to do that. I told her Stevie would get a kick out of it. So we did it when the time came, kind of in a more subtle way because we were sitting in our chairs. Stevie saw us and sure enough she was totally smiling at us. You can even hear her smiling as she sings that part in the recording. She loved performing this song, not like she didn’t love performing “Landslide”, but you could definitely tell she was more excited to do this one. After the song, she talked about how weird it was to perform without ear monitors.
Then it was time for her to go over to the piano. Carlos, Waddy, Sharon and Michael left the stage. She said, “I’ll take the tea”, and grabbed one of her two Starbucks travel mugs and brought it over to the piano. (Maybe the other had water?) She was at the piano and said it was so “trippy” to play for the kids today. She told a story about how her assistant, Karen, got a new puppy recently. It’s an 8 month old rescue Yorkie and they named it, well Karen named it, “Bella”. Stevie said it was in the car with them on the way here today and Stevie began to do her vocal lessons. (then she showed us what she meant by trilling, “I will sing higher for you”. She said Bella started barking at her, which she thought was weird because her dog seems to like it when she does her vocal lessons. She thinks that Bella thought Stevie was growling at her. (laughter) So then Stevie grabbed Bella, and put her right in her face and did it again and said, Bella- I’m just doing my vocal lessons. Then she said the dog calmed down and was like, oh. (laughter) Then she said it was the kind of the same with the kids today. She said you haveto just talk to them. Then she kind of went into her anti-internet thing and how it’s ruining social graces, etc. But she didn’t go on about that too long. So then she said the next song she was going to do was the first song she did on a piano. She said she was going to try to play it like she played it for Lindsey for the first time. She mentioned she said to Lindsey, “Lindsey, isn’t Rhiannon a beautiful name?” and she said there’s tape of that actually. She said she was going to try to do it without her glasses, but if she screwed up she would get her glasses. She started playing, and she evidently screwed up because she said, “sorry – I’m gonna go get my glasses.” She went over and got them, then walked back to the piano. They were the aviator sunglasses she wears. You could still see her eyes in them. ”Rhiannon” on the piano was beautiful. Everyone applauded and then the moderator, Bob came back out and looked over at Stevie who was still at the piano and asked her if she wanted to do one more, then asked us if we wanted one more . Of course we did. So then Stevie she said she hasn’t sat and played at a piano in about a year, and it taught her a lesson. She said it goes to show you, you need to practice, when you’re a musician. And she said she decided today she’s going to bring the piano home to her apartment. She said she was sorry she couldn’t play it for us better. She said she was gonna give it a go on the next song. She said it’s one from this record, and she thought it’d be interesting to show us chord-wise how little she knows. (laughter) Or as Waddy says, she just writes one long song. Then she played the chords to Rhiannon and said, that’s the basis of everything I write. Then she started playing again and sung a few parts of “Edge of 17”. She then talked about the next song being kind of a second part to Rhiannon, and that it was her favorite. She talked about being inspired to write it after seeing New Moon. As I was sitting there, I couldn’t believe that she was going to do my favorite, “Moonlight”! Now this is probably NOT the case, but I suggested to Stevie via Twitter to do “Moonlight” at this event. I had been told by another little birdie I know that it was probably just going to be her with a piano at this event. I thought “Moonlight” would be great on piano, so I sent a tweet to Stevie’s account on Oct. 17 (2 days before) to please consider doing “Moonlight” at this event. The little birdie then informed me that this was a great idea but probably unlikely, as the birdie heard she was only going to do 2 songs, this not being one of them. So when she actually did it, I couldn’t help but think if there was a slight chance that I may have put a bug in Stevie’s ear about it. Like I said, highly unlikely, but still… who knows?
It was amazing. I got teary-eyed. I couldn’t believe how fortunate I was to be sitting there as she was doing this song raw, just her and the piano. After the song she said she was so thankful that she didn’t mess it up. Everyone applauded. Stevie then thanked us all for being there, and said that she’d love to do something like this again. She said it really was a special and that tonight when she writes in her journal she’ll write about what a “brilliant moment” it was. The Stevie waved bye to everyone and left. I didn’t see Lindsay’s little interaction with her, but only because everyone was standing and I couldn’t see what she was doing as she got off the 1.5 foot stage. But how cool for Lindsay!
After the show I caught up with Justin and we kind of hung out for a little bit and took photos of Stevie’s piano. Stevie’s sound guy was starting to pack stuff up. I asked him if he happened to know when Stevie decided that she was going to do “Moonlight” tonight. He said he thought she decided it today. (Hmmm..) We also talked to Bob and told him what a good job he did. He said it was easy because Stevie was a great guest and also because the audience had great questions. I thanked him for calling on me. We asked when/how this program could be accessed later. He said that it was video-taped and that it was going to go in their “archives” that will probably be available to see sometime in January, here at the museum. I asked, as in like a screening or something? He replied, yes, something like that. Then he said that possibly later down the line it might be available on dvd. I left the theater and went over to the little gift shop they had right outside of it. The girl that told us before the show about no photos approached me and told me she thought that the little hand gestures me and Becca were doing with Stevie was cute. She said she noticed Stevie got a kick out of it. I thanked her and thanked her for doing a great job at this event. I told her I couldn’t wait to see it in the archives in January. After looking around in the shop, I bought a Grammy Museum travel mug and a bracelet that was made out of guitar string. As I was leaving the gift shop, I noticed Waddy, Carlos and Michael Grimm walking out. Cool! I walked up to Carlos and introduced myself. I told him I had met him before, not that he’d remember. I told him I didn’t expect to see him here tonight and that he did a great job. He was really gracious. As we walked out together, I asked him if he knew when Stevie decided she was going to do “Moonlight” tonight. He said he thinks she decided at dinner. By this time we were at the exit I thanked Carlos and said goodbye. Michael Grimm was standing there, so I introduced myself to him and told him I thought he was great at the Anaheim show last Wednesday. I told him I was impressed with his talents and that he had a really soulful voice. He was real cool and said, thanks, shaking my hand. I saw more friends outside the venue and talked to them for a little bit, then I headed home. I got out of there about 10:30 or so. The 2 hour drive home was a breeze, as I was on a total Stevie high. What an amazing night and what an amazing year!!

another note, if you listen to the recording of Rhiannon from this, the rhythmic, muffled tapping you hear is Stevie's foot as she was playing. I noticed that when i was watching her and heard it on the recording.

Second, I'm not sure I understand what you mean by the part that I highlighted, would mind expanding please, sounds like an interesting point. :)
Sorry.
Like I said I am new to doing this. I have been reading all the posts and loving them for ages though, just not brave enough to jump in.
I read the original article and for some reason I just came away from it feeling what Lindsey said about Stevie scheduling the last 3 shows was just not said in a positive way. I mean if that had actually been said, it was not his place to put it out there?
To be honest, I think he just sounded down-right "jealous"?? and he always seems to temper comments about Stevie with a little negative spin?? Like I said.. Just the way I took it when I read it. And also like I said,, I am very prejudiced and totally a Stevie Nicks FAN!! I think I always have been and especially more now. If I have said anything I shouldn't have let me know.

"I get protective towards Stevie as well, don't we all !? LOL, I feel like she's a best friend and if anyone says anything negative towards her I get a tad fiesty. hahaha"
Might sound odd, but with the way Stevie's songs always seem to pop up at just the right time, and get wrapped up with people, places, and situations, it does make it feel like she is a friend.
I do not believe that I have ever read her being nasty about anyone. That is not to say she isn't outspoken when she has an opinion on a subject. "_) But never mean spirited for just the sake of being mean.
I really think the feeling I get from reading Lindsey Buckingham comments, especially lately, is always a sense of him considering her less then he is. I am probably saying this all wrong. Even when he pays a compliment or says something "nice" there always seems to be a sense of but,,,,,,,,
I have to ask this... does anyone else get the feeling with his timing and the "sudden" announcement of the release of Seeds, that perhaps Mr Buckingham was thinking to perhaps over shadow some of Stevie's spotlight?
From what I have read, he does not seem to be accomplishing that very well........
I do have another question... I thought basically LB's contribution to IYD's was when Stevie asked him participate with Soldiers Dream. Lately in interviews, he makes it sound like he had alot more to do with the making of the entire CD...
And since I am on a roll........ Does anyone else listening to her demos, think the original versions were better before rather then after LB got his hands on them and over produced them??
Now I am really in trouble right?

I totally get what you're saying Dragoon. I think the same thing sometimes. LB's a funny duck sometimes. Stevies so gracious with what she says about him and his comments can make you shake your head. He's got to be nicer and embrace the fact that they are all still alive and successful, which is amazing considering the time that has passed. He's got to honorthe history and look forward to the future. Making weirdo jealous mean spirited comments isn't going to help him in the short term or long run. :::stepping off soapbox::;

I agree that LB's comments about the Clinton event were kind of strange, but you never know with interview quotes what else was said, so I just kind of raised my eyebrows at that.
I do think he catches a rough ride sometimes, though. I read a recent concert review (from Phoenix, I think, of all places) where they said someone had yelled 'Hi, Stevie!' at him from the crowd. LB apparently just kind of sneered and repeated 'Hi, Stevie....' and then said 'No, no, we all love Stevie very much, don't we?'
I mean, that's just a nightmare, dealing with that kind of thing. He's playing these small venues, getting close to the fans, trying to give people a really vivid live experience of his musicianship, and people are so smartass rude. I felt sorry for him and thought he did just about as well as he could with that.

Lindsey has in no way insinuated he was more involved in her CD than his contribution to SA, which he downplayed. Stevie is the one gushing about how he was the "only one" who could make it work to her liking, but he has said he "hung out" at her house more than Stevie initially admitted. Perhaps, Stevie for once was taking his wife into consideration.
But, Stevie inserts her foot in her mouth a lot. I don't think she intends to be mean but she definitely speaks before she thinks. Like her saying Dave "has no ego" is not a direct dig at LB?? Please. And, like DS doesn't have an ego?! Ha! Everyone in that business has an ego. It may manifest differently but it's there.
Lindsey is usually very careful about what he says - as anyone can tell with the way he gives the same exact answer in every interview. The comments about her funding her appearance at the Clinton gig were pretty matter of fact and Stevie herself would probably have said it at some point -- like how she rambled on about how well she was doing financially in the recession and was able to pay her house off. Well, lucky her! No, the only odd thing about Lindsey's comment was the revealing nature -- he is privy to that information, but it's normally not something he would be transparent about.
Of course, their management released his album in the aftermath of hers. Of course, they will market them together, they are in the same band. Of course, Lindsey is not going to sell as many units - he doesn't expect that nor does he have any grandiose ideas about attaining the same heights of visibility as Stevie. I'm not convinced he ever did want that and he certainly doesn't want it in his 60's. And, if FM does tour next year this was the only time for his album to come out. Stevie herself has plugged LB's album several times.
I will never ever understand how anyone can claim to be a Stevie Nicks fan and hate Lindsey Buckingham's production in the same breath. If you love any of her songs from Fleetwood Mac you like his production. Period.

If you watch the video, he did not "sneer" and he was very genuine in his comments about Stevie. He was actually in good spirits and handled the situation with humor. The person who wrote that review put a total negative spin on it and it just wasn't there.

I can't see why it would be inconsiderate of Stevie Nicks to say accurately how much time her colleague Lindsey Buckingham spent working with her on her album. Making mountains out of molehills there, I think.
Yes, Stevie speaks before she thinks. But the example you give is not an example of that trait. It's an instance, indeed as you say yourself, of her knowing exactly what she's saying. She's saying that she finds the manifestations of Dave's ego more palatable than Lindsey's. My own phrasing would be something along the lines of saying that Dave is the sort of guy who gets off on seeing other people making the music they want to make, rather than imposing his own idea of what's good.
I think we agree about why the Clinton comment was odd: it was odd because it seemed a strange thing to reveal - to undermine the apparent 'generosity' of Stevie playing the benefit gig by pointing out that she intended to make the money up elsewhere, which has the further effect of making her adding-on of more dates appear mercenary rather than driven by believe in the album, love of performing, wanting to please fanbase, or any other more noble reason. Essentially, you're arguing that LB should be commended for not plastering everything he knows about Stevie's finances or motives all over the press? I say let him plaster away. I already know full well there are aspects of Stevie's personality that don't appeal to me at all, but LB's attitude to money is equally cringeworthy.
Your last point doesn't make sense. Let's take 'Smile At You' as an example, just because it's well-known for its history. If that qualifies as one of Stevie's 'songs from Fleetwood Mac', it is also a Fleetwood Mac track that some Stevie fans who've heard the demo don't like. They like the pre-FM song but they don't like the track because of LB's production. Simple.

I can't see why it would be inconsiderate of Stevie Nicks to say accurately how much time her colleague Lindsey Buckingham spent working with her on her album. Making mountains out of molehills there, I think.
No, what I was saying was she seemingly understated the time, compared to Lindsey's comments. He makes it seem like he was there more (which was the reason the other Ledgie made the comment about him being 'more involved' than he was). I'm not saying I know who was more accurate - just that Lindsey said he 'hung out' with her - not worked on her album.

Exactly. You are right. Stevie has said "Dave has NO ego." Which is total BS. If she would have phrased it like you, it would be totally realistic and probably spot on to her experiences with those two producers and seem like less of a personal attack.

Oh, I didn't think of it like that. Very true about undermining the generosity. I don't think that's what he intended, but I see how it would come off that way.

Which is why I shouldn't post before I've had coffee!! LOL.
What I mean is -- if you specifically like any of the FM songs. Not necessarily that you've heard a demo you could then compare to a FM song and suddenly you like the demo better. Honestly, did anyone complain about Lindsey's production skills prior to SYW or is it just the hype from the DR doc that gets everybody going on that? I just think it's absurd to think of Stevie as being held in bondage to LB's production.

I know the feeling, re coffee etc. :)
I've always found it incredibly interesting and a huge bonus for us fans that so many of Stevie's demos were leaked, for exactly the reason that it does allow us to gauge LB's production decisions. For me, it's a wider point about LB's musical aesthetic. I love his production on Rumours and Tusk, but I find Mirage uneven. Tango doesn't really appeal to me at all, and I hardly ever listen to it. SYW is the only FM album on which I prefer LB's tracks to SN's.
I guess the upshot of what I'm saying is that where it has become possible to compare Stevie's demo with LB's final product, I find it's a fairly wide spectrum where I think he's enhanced it or not.
I had a similar chat about this over on the LB forum recently, and my broad point was the same: that it shouldn't be automatically assumed that LB's input on SN's material is going to benefit the material. Because that would be kind of making him infallable, which seems daft to me.

Here's the YouTube..audio only I believe..of Stevie performing Landslide dedicated to Justin. So cool! And Jamie or someone mentioned they are friends with him, so if he's on here as well hope it's okay that I posted this!
Enjoy, haven't had the chance to listen yet.

Maybe the mind association for Stevie is when the song was written or went down on tape, which probably makes her quite accurate! Wasn't Gypsy written in the tusk era and recorded around Bella Donna?

If you watch the video, he did not "sneer" and he was very genuine in his comments about Stevie. He was actually in good spirits and handled the situation with humor. The person who wrote that review put a total negative spin on it and it just wasn't there.
Apologies if this is a wee bit OT, but just had to say that I watched the video and, yes, it wasn't nearly as niggly as the review I read suggested. I also think the woman who shouted out 'Hi, Stevie' might have been actually answering the person who yelled 'That's why I love you!' at LB. So it wasn't random at all. It was wit. Of a sort. ;)

Yes, that's the way I took it too. And, it was pretty funny, especially when LB turned around like he was looking for Stevie.

Loved reading about your experience, Jamie. Thanks for sharing! And great question, by the way. I've wondered the same thing myself!

Yes, I believe Mick is credited for the vocals.
Sounded like him. Curious to find out who is credited for the "lyrics" and music though??
Almost as strange as the Mac doing that demo of Cool Water.
Thanks,
