I agree! But, on the other hand this song/video is the perfect imagery of autumn, October, and of course...Halloween  I'm just so delighted to finally see this video. I'm not disappointed in it at all (well, maybe a tad too much Dave;)) However, Stevie being drop dead breathtaking in this, makes up for any small sins.

Love Dave in Stevie's clothes. Love the black Red Rocks coat always and so jealous. I know this whole vampire thing goes along with the song and the album, but I associate Stevie's witchyness with her clothes and crystal balls and song imagery and stuff like that. Not feeling this whole vamp thing. To me I saw her as gypsy/witchy in image always and none of this gothic vampire stuff, but I know it was inspired from the Twilight films so that's what they were going for.

Dave's little tap dancing parts seem out of place, tho one of my fav scenes is his arm from between the curtains beckoning you over. Just funny as hell. Very "thing."
Also, it sounds to me, like the opening part is a bit of a different mix. Maybe it's how I'm hearing it over my laptop. Can't wait til weekend when I can plug in good speakers and see if it's just me or not. Anyone else. Couple beats different. Can't tell you, just saying...

The owl kept reminding me of that infamous clip where she talks about not being a witch and saying something about "there are no owls up there" as if they would be perched above her looking down. That was also the one with the comment about Halloween costumes "I didn't want to be a hot dog or a box of Kleenex" which I seriously think about every Halloween.
I like the video a lot. I'm usually opposed to videos where they put young "beautiful" people in older performers' videos and only showing glimpses of the actual performer, but I would have really loved a video with a storyline for this. Having said that, any kind of storyline they would have done would have just looked like a ripoff of the Twilight movies, so it's really best they didn't. (sorry, my two Gemini sides fighting against each other. I love Rock n Roll but I can't do just that... I'm a Gemini)
I always said that Stevie should do a Goth album and while Goth always brings up images of men and women in black eyeliner, lipstick and fingernails dressed in black Victorian outfits, I think this is the most Goth thing Stevie has done since Sister's of the Moon and I absolutely love it. You could totally play this up against Pete Murphy's "Cut You Up" and Siouxsie & The Banshees "The Killing Jar". The violin totally makes it.

Dave needs to stop featuring himself in all of these...he looks absolutely ridiculous dancing like a goofball in front of that red curtain.
Also, this should feature Sharon more. She looks more like a vampire than anyone in the video!
And get rid of Waddy.

Love the video, Stevie, the girls, the dark imagery, the tophats, the owls and the horse, the twirls and I'm seriously crushing on the Poe looking guy with the moustache... LOL...
But, what is that giant concrete Buddha head in her backyard? I wanna know if it's hers or a leftover from whomever lived there before and Karen just couldn't lift it to take it out to the garbage? LOL!

the cuts seem very long in the beginning making it rather draggy.... I liked it much better as it went on as the cuts were quicker and more varied... too many shots of the same thing in the beginning. Feels like a good first edit but should be tightened up a bit.

Love the song, not the video. The fast shots are annoying, and yes, Dave's silliness is out of place. I think Stevie looks good (as always), but not as great as in the SL and FWIW videos. One constant: her lip-sync-ing is as off as ever.
Parts I do like:
- Stevie with the owl
- The girl running in the white cape
Those parts should have been longer.
I agree that this song should have been the first single. Seems obvious they saved it for Halloween. I hope it pays off. Guessing the Letterman and other appearances are finally approaching.

That group screenshot pose reminds me of the pose that Stevie and Rod's backup singers would wrap up with at the end of Young Turks. Love that Dave is silly, love that Waddy is in it. Yes, I agree with what some have already said in that it is a little busy. But anything is better than nothing. Stevie looks fantastic, and the owl interaction is way cool. IMO the Moonlight montage video from the Wiltern is good enough to have been released as the official video. Love the song though, and the pictures that have been posted of Stevie rocking the red Rhiannon sleeves dress are beautiful.

I love the song, love the owl and I love the vampire girl with the violin. Stevie looks stunning in the video. I'm just trying to figure it all out. Imagery? Why is Dave laying on the piano? Why is he dancing? Who are all these people?
I'm happy to have another video from Stevie, I just need someone to explain it all to me.

I agree. Based on the sizzle reel I was hoping that the video would be full of the surreal and bizarre darkness that would have not been unlike the Nine Inch Nails "Closer" video (without all of the organ parts and animals, that is). There are cool flourishes, such as Stevie's closeups with the owl and her scene in the backyard, er, forest. But mostly its a jumbled mess that looks like a bunch of people having a costume party. Some kind of a plot or theme would have been greatly appreciated.
Don't get me wrong- I love good camp when I see it. But this is one song that does not lend itself to camp at all.
Oh, and what's up with the piano player? He looks like he would rather be filling out his federal tax return than playing the piano in this video.

This video is all over the place! I know it's good to recycle....but..
If Stevie had just stood under the staircase holding the owl and singing the song for the entire video, that would have been more "artistic" and supremely more watchable than this.

Interesting to see this finished video after repeated (and repeated) views of the Moonlight bits in the trailer from back in February. Is it because we've seen that short clip so many times and basically memorized its composition that this one just pales in comparison? I was expecting...bigger.
However, the frickin' video is finally here, and I am absolutely stunned and elated that we're seeing it. Let's face it - we should be thrilled that there are any videos for this album at all given the music industry and Stevie's age. This video assuredly made my night.
That said...
Dave's dancing bits. Dave's peeking from behind the curtain. Dave period. Get riddah.
Waddy looks as though he's about ready to be embalmed.
And the group shots with the arm-raising on "strange..." -- Does. Not. Work. This mystical, ethereal and dramatic vibe is created, and then that pops up on the screen. Smiling girl with braces? You're killing it for me.
Sharon walking through the trees in the "moonlight" is absolutely stunning, though.
Overall, not quite sure what Stevie's camp was going for here. One of her most dramatic and compelling songs of all time, and it's just a mish-mash in many parts.
I had to say those things, and feel much better now. But at the end of the day, bloody thank you for this video. We've been waiting for it and here it is. I'll take it - warts and all!

Oh you negative Nancies.
I love it that there's a video for "Moonlight". It's more important to have one than for it to be perfect, and not everything that Stevie does is going to be perfect. She's human, Dave's human, they do the best they can. And "the best they can" has been probably the best album of Stevie's career.

SORRY, I don't like the video. I think it's a great single but the video just looks cheap. I liked the For What it's Worth and Secret Love videos eventhough I didn't think they should be singles. They had some quality. This is just a collection of shots. This is a last ditch effort. No radio edit to boot.
After watching this, I seriously doubt we are going to that dvd companion piece.

Other than the shot of Dave running in place & the group sing-along, I thought it was absolutely perfect. Gothic & surreal, but with a sense of whimsy -- and Stevie looked gorgeous.
By the way, are my eyes deceiving me, or is that the lovely Christine McVie in the photograph on the wall behind Lori?

I like it but I don't love it. It could've been great but it's not, there's just too much going on.
Too many cuts, too many different people, too much Dave. Torry is beautiful and I don't mind that blonde girl (but she shouldn't smile with braces) but those 2 younger girls are unnecessary.
Waddy should only be filmed from a distance.

THIS IS FAB! I love it! C'mon, what did everyone expect? Cocaine-filled twirls like in I Can't Wait and Talk to Me? For a video that was shot AT HER HOUSE and in her backyard, I think this turned out pretty good.
This is definitely an upgrade from the last two (SL and FWIW) and WAYYYYYYY better than Everyday and Sorcerer.
I think Waddy fits this video perfectly, definitely looks like a vampire! Loved the shots of Lori and Sharon, especially Sharon walking through the woods.
I think we've all become a little spoiled since In Your Dreams came out. Just remember any year from the "Greatest Hits Hell" era. Can you imagine your reaction to this video if it were still that time in Stevie history? Everyone here would probably cream themselves and melt to the floor into a pile of chiffon.

I am doing great....and just for the record, I am SO glad that Stevie is putting out a lot of videos for this CD but this song or video just doesnt do it for me. I cant really put my finger on it but it has no UMPH for me.
I have played the CD for a couple of very casual fans who are friends of mine. None had anything to say about Moonlight at all....neither good nor bad. It was just kind of "there" in their opinion. She needs to stop releasing mid tempo song after mid tempo song. Lets get some Stevie out there who is rockin the place. Thus...my suggestion for WSS.
Hope you are doing well also...

I hear ya John, I'm glad she's out there too but it's no secret that I'm not a huge fan of the CD over all. I know she's a different woman now and I'm glad she's in a good place but the CD is just dull to me. There's not a lot of umph behind it. As I've said before, I love "Secret Love" and "For What It's Worth." Those are the 2 that stood out to me from the start but I've tried to get into the CD and I just can't. Sigh! I know I know, call me Debbie Downer, call me Negative Nancy. And as much as I like you, I have to disagree about WSS. That is not a single worthy song at all. Even when Stevie was hot in the 80's, the song would have charted perhaps on her star power alone but it wouldn't have been a chart topper. It's just not a radio commerical song. At this point I don't think any song from the CD is going to garner any radio attention. I'm ready for her to do something more upbeat and fun.

Ummmm... how could that even be possible? Closer was directed by Mark Romanek, a giant in the history of music video's art innovations. The sad thing is that Stevie seems to be like most fans, thinking that music videos direct themselves. Dave's runamuck ego has been ruinous to the visual conception of the great album he produced.

I didn't say that they needed to recreate every frame of the "Closer" video. My point was that they could have gone for something with a similar atmosphere- surreal, haunting, spooky, freaky, sepia-toned... Mark Romanek does not monopolize this sort of thing. I think they were onto something with all of the random "strange" people making cameos in the video. But they stopped short at "kinda different, but not particularly strange."

Mark Romanek is a certified genius with talent and Dave Stewart demonstrably has no sense for making movies. Therefore, to expect that Dave could ever achieve anything close the level of Closer in quality reveals a problem that, I think, Stevie shares--which Dave has exploited. I NEVER said that you said "they needed to recreate every frame of the 'Closer' video." That doesn't even make sense, so I wouldn't have imposed such a concept on you. There are lots of people with talent who could have made good music videos for this song (whether being similar in mood, tone, technique to Closer or not). Dave Stewart is not and never could be one of those people.

i think we are forgetting that Stevie has a long history of putting people in her videos (often her friends and loved ones) doing odd things... things that at first viewing (or maybe forever) that makes us go "wtf?"
Dave, dancing weirdly, by himself, with little relation to the rest of the video in "Moonlight" is SO SIMILAR to Mick, dancing weirdly, by himself, with little relation to the rest of the video in "I Cant Wait"

Hi Derek :-)
I agree - I’m not really bothered by anything in the video, I think its fine, but like John L pointed out, it's kind of a drag to keep releasing mid tempo song after mid temp song. Spice it up Stevie. IYD would have been my next single and video choice.

Not impressed and I'm not shy about saying it. First of all, I love Waddy and all but he should definitely not be making appearances in videos unless they are live performances. Although now that I think about it he does mesh well with the "scary" theme.
I agree with what someone said about this just being re-cycled footage. Didn't we see these same scenes in the sizzle reel and other things? Her house and all? This is nothing new. Sure, they added some new shots and things but overall I feel like I've seen all of this before. Obviously they didn't have a huge budget.
The group shots are soooo cheezy to me! What is the point? What are they trying to impress upon us in this video? Does this video have any kind of message as opposed to being a bunch of choppy shots edited together? I know this sounds harsh but being that I'm not a big fan of IYD in general this just adds insult to injury.
That being said however, I am absolutely thrilled that Stevie is still putting out videos and gracing us with her presence in such a consistant fashion these days. This in no way takes away from Stevie being the Queen. You go girl!!

I have to say my favorite albums are from the Jimmy Iovine years. But I'm glad she's still making records and performing. But I do like some of OSOTM and TISL and also think that the Sorcerer video was pretty good and she looked so flawless in it. I probably liked the (Sorcerer) video more than that song. Just something about her outfits and makeup and the boots throughout it. The visuals were cool too. Am I the only one who wishes she still had her Phoenix home over this one?

I think a lot of us were more used to videos as they were in the 80's and really, nobody makes videos like that anymore. It seems that they did a lot of videos for this album and since videos don't really sell albums like they used to I think it was a labor of love for the fans. And if you do a video for almost every song you're not going to have a huge budget to spend on actors and sets and big name directors for any one song. And since this song was really going to be the one to appeal to a much younger generation who could very well be a major crossover fan base to be exposed to Stevie's music, the video style is much closer to what the Twilight crowd would get into.
And after the live clip videos from Say You Will, I'm thrilled Stevie and company decided to get all dressed up for us and have some fun with this. I love it.

Speaking of videos and play, I was up this morning flipping through channels and got to thinking about the music business today and was kind of pissed off stations won't play someone as legendary as Stevie who's paid her dues, but they'll play Marc Anthony? Who's been absent the better part of a decade as far as I know and not done near as much as Stevie has in career, and Palladia channel will play him but stations wont play Stevie? It seriously makes me mad.

She should have done Wide Sargasso Sea on Dancing With The Stars. It would have been a great song for the dancers to dance to and packed a lot of punch for her performance. You're right about the mid tempo songs.

Hi Eugene... I actually knew the song (BIG Bonnie Tyler fan here). The "Turn Around Bright Eyes" thing is just a joke between jwd and myself.
Back in the old days of Napster and peer-to-peer file-sharing services, folks would constantly mislabel songs & artists on the mp3s they shared. There were mp3s for "Bette Davis Eyes" (Kim Carnes' huge hit) circulating with Bonnie's name on them, and files for "Total Eclipse" with Stevie's name on them.

I agree, I love it. I mean c'mon, who would have thought in 2011 we would be getting so many video projects from Stevie Nicks!?! This is video #4 - a world record for a Stevie Nicks/FM record! And besides, we all know they also filmed video's for WSS, IS, IYD & YMBTO as well. So overall, that fact is that all these songs were filmed on a tight budget & schedule (most likely funded by Stevie) this is all pretty fantastic! I LOVE this one much better than "Secret Love". So yeah, it's not perfect, there is no possible way for her to please everyone, but Stevie is flawless in this, and the imagery/elements really capture an atmosphere & create a bewitching mood.
For me, after watching it's palpable that they all had such a blast dressing up in costumes, trying to be serious and a little campy. It's a glimpse into how much fun it was for Stevie & Co. recording & filming this entire project.

While I'm not crazy about SL and FWIW as singles, and I don't much care for the "Moonlight" video, I am pleasantly surprised that two of the three singles are Stevie compositions with no co-writer. From the time of the album's release, so much talk in the press was devoted to how Dave co-wrote over half the album. I was concerned that the Stevie songs would be overlooked as singles choices in favor of Stevie/Dave fare like "Cheaper than Free". I'd rather have "Moonlight" released as a single with a crap video than "Cheaper than Free" with a great one.

I really WANTED to love this video, "Moonlight" being my favorite song on the new record. But I agree with most of you...there's just TOO MUCH going on, Dave's silly dancing ruins the flow and mood, and several of the "actors" have as much enthusiasm as a box of hair!
I DID like all the night time scenes in the forest, though...and all the stuff with Stevie and the owl. :) Plus I thought the individual shots of the "actors" lip syncing the word "strange" toward the end was a nice touch.
Just my 2 cents. :)

After watching this video for about the 10th time, it is starting to grow on me. It is still kind of discombobulated (spelling?) to me, especially the parts with Dave Stewart on the stage but I think it is decent. I just wish it told more of a story than all these flashes of people walking and standing around. Oh well...more power to Stevie for putting herself out there.

I like that there are people everywhere, looks like a secret creepy party, i get the "straaaaange" vibe from it.
However, i think Stevie is a bit ridiculous in this video (and in the Secret Love vid too). Her gesture has become a problem for me. I'd rather not see her in this video at all, just those random people. That would be even more straaange. Same goes for Dave Stewart. I prefer Stevie when she is natural, in the Cheaper than free video, or FWIW.
On a positive side, this vid made me remember how much i loved the song, and the whole album, actually, and now i'm listening to IYD on repeat. This is definitely one of the best things she's done in her career.

Yeah, I never knew Stevie was a Joni fan! I've just been getting into Joni stuff lately, and it's quite interesting...
Really? I started checking her out because I've read both LB and Stevie list her as influences. The two main albums I remember them mentioning are Blue and Court and Spark. I believe Stevie said she tripped on acid with Keith Olsen to Court and Spark...
Here are some great little Joni Mitchell blurbs:
"I was over at [Fleetwood Mac producer Keith Olson’s] house, and he had these great speakers that were as tall as me, and Joni’s record had just come out, and I put it on. He went away, it was just me, and I listened to this record for three days. She was able to stuff so many words into one sentence and not have them sound crowded. She was talking about what it was like to be very famous and to be a woman living in a man’s world. She had been in the world of fame much longer than me, and she had gone out with every famous rock ’n’ roll star that there was. And she was such an amazing guitarist that they all respected her. That was unheard of. She was in the boys’ club. She talked about what I saw coming. Even though Buckingham Nicks had tanked, I knew that we were going to be very famous, very rich, and that this fame thing was going to overwhelm us. So when I listened to this record, it was like a great old premonition just being laid out in front of me. There is a song on it called “The Same Situation,” and that song just would kill me when I’d hear it. Because I knew it was coming."
***
"One time I did acid when Joni Mitchell’s record Court And Spark came out. I was with my producer at his house, with a set of speakers that were taller than the fireplace, and I was in a safe place and I sat there on the floor and listened to that record and that was a pretty dynamic experience but it didn’t erase the fact that the other two times were not. So I never did it again."
***
"I hope that my music makes people feel the way I used to feel when I went home with a record that I loved," Nicks says. "My favorite example of that is Joni Mitchell's 'Court and Spark.' I heard that record as I was joining Fleetwood Mac, so for me, it was the beginning of Fleetwood Mac. For days, I just lay on the floor and sang along with her and tried to learn how she phrases and how she gets all those words into one sentence, and I got such joy from that. When I hear one of those songs today, I just have to sit down, because I'm still so knocked out. That's how I hope my music affects people."

Wow, thanks for those!! Now I have to check out Court and Spark...

^^I also remember reading an old Buckingham Nicks concert review that mentioned that they did a cover of "Raised on Robbery," which I would literally DIE if I heard.
Also, a few years ago, when asked about Stevie's pre-show ritual, she mentioned that she always played a mix "tape" that included current songs as well as classics. "Blonde in the Bleachers" was on that tape.

Dave's beard is scruffy. The last thing I want to see is repeated close ups of it, especially not when he's prostrate.

Wow about the BN info! Obviously, I'm such a BN freak I would also die for any new boots, pics, etc...

Played the new video, as well as some oldies like Stand Back and mixed in some newer videos from other big selling artists and played the burned disc on all the monitors in my store all weekend long. LOL My employee's didn't exactly love me forcing them to listen to Stevie but it was all worth it; we had eight copies of In Your Dreams laying around when I first started playing it, sold all eight by the end of the weekend and even had to special order a few for two customers after we were sold out. My plan was a success. lol You're welcome, Stevie.

You are AWESOME! That is so cool. Proves that if you can just get people to hear Mama, they will love her.
