I believe, that most of us listens from time to time music, that can be called "guilty pleasure". So, don't feel ashamed and share your list of artists that sometimes you might be afraid to admit to like :) Here is mine:

1. Gloria Estefan & Miami Sound Machine (yes, the rhythm indeed got me and made me do the conga moves :))
2. Olivia Newton-John ("singing butter" as once someone wrote about this lady, but who cares if sometimes the butter tastes so sweet :))
3. Liza Minnelli (someone once told me, that only gays listen to this big-voiced diva, well I guess I'm a small exception to this rule:))
4. Diana Ross (say what you want but with or without The Supremes this lady has much more to offer than big hair and pair of gloves)
5. Kool & The Gang (I "cherish" their music)
6. Amy Grant (Christian Pop star? Well...why not unless she sings these "jesus loves me" songs:))
7. Roxette (Second Abba? Even better...)
8. The Human League (I'm only "human" and that's why I'm not ashamed to admit I like their music)
9. Donna Summer (I "love to love" her, even if she's such a "bad girl". Truly "hot stuff":))
10. Pet Shop Boys (well, they had their time and few great songs:))
11. Rick Astley (I know, I should be damned for this, but who cares...? I really like his early hits like "Together Forever" or "Never Gonna Give You Up")
12. Richard Marx (king of Adult Contemporary cheese? Yeah right, but more than few songs are passable for me)
13. Sheena Easton (she was sexy chick back in the 80's and even sang Bond's theme, which I happened to sing one time in public during karaoke party :))

I don't really have artists, per se, because it's usually just one or two songs I have on my iPod, but there is probably what is about to be a very long list of shameful songs lol.

The Pogues - Fairytale Of New York (Only shame being I listen to it all year round :p)
Daniel Powter - Bad Day (I loathe pop music, but this always cheers me up)
R.E.M. - Sidewinder Sleeps Tonite (As much as I adore the band, it is quite embarassing to be caught listening to such a peppy number despite how great it is)
Jeeves And Wooster - Sunny Disposish (Small song skit Wooster performed on his piano in the show, which I just had to keep for posterity. Like he says, "Life can be delish with a sunny disposish" :p)
Journey - Midnight Train (I liked it before Glee. Now I just feel ashamed to listen to it, thanks to those teeny bopping, song murdering Twonks)
Kelly Clarkson - Sober (Hate pop. Like this song. Go figure)
UB40 - Red Red Wine (Of course it has to be listened to on a hot day)
Robbie Williams - Something Beautiful *Bows head in shame*
Crash Test Dummies - Mmm mmm mmm mmm
Midnight Oil - Beds Are Burning
Oasis - Half A World Away
Amy Studt - Ladder In My Tights (Can't help but feel a little empowered when listening to this song)
Amy Studt - Misfit (Same as Ladder In My Tights)
Dido - White Flag (Oh the shame)
Coldplay - Fix You (I'm sorry lol)
POD - Alive (Is it just me, or does this song added to a good moment just make it completely epic? There's a reason why it's always played during "epic moment" trailers. Unfortunately, it deceptively gives you the message that the movie may just be good. It wont be, but the trailer is fun)
Nickelback - Rockstar (Yep. Know the words. Nope. Not apologising :p)
Puddle O' Mudd - She Hates Me (La la la la!)
Bryan Adams - Star
Feeder - Buck Rogers
Run DMC - It's Tricky 2003
Smash Mouth - All Star
Take That - Rule The World (I can't help it. Stardust made it seem magical)
U2 - Hands That Built America (The only U2 song I can bare. I suppose you could count One, but I don't even like the U2 version. Michael Stipe knocked it out of the park with his version without even trying)
The Hooters - Satellite
Bjork - It's Oh So Quiet
The Rasmus - F F F Falling (I used to love their first album. This song is wonderful to listen to when in a car on a hot day, windows open, music loud and heading somewhere fun)
Cee Lo Green - Eff You
Gary Jules - Mad World
The Script - Man Who Can't Be Moved
Peter Gabriel - Game Without Frontiers ( I could NEVER forgive a song containing the line "Jane plays with Willy and Willy's happy again". Somebody really needs to give Mr. Gabriel a British slang dictionary and show him what he's implying these innocent children are doing. Sad thing is, if it weren't for that line it would probably be in with my favourite songs of his. As it is, Sledgehammer, Book Of Love and Washing Of The Water got there first)
Melanie -Animal Crackers (Adore the song. But I do get humiliated by friends and family when they hear me listening to it, lol)
The Osmonds - Crazy Horses (Sounds as though they've been held hostage by the Grumbleweeds...)

I'm laughing out loud at the 70's/80's bad rock references. Come on, everyone loves "Don't stop believing" and "Beds are Burning" :D. And "It's oh so quiet" is to me, a perfectly fine song, as well as Gary Jules' version of "Mad World".

I loooove :

Breathe Easy-Blue
The Way i Are-Timbaland
Untouched-The Veronicas
To France-Mike Oldfield (amaaaazing)
Mand Down-Rihanna
You and Me-Lifehouse (sooo cheesy)
Feels like i'm love-Kelly Marie (disco at its worst)
Take my breathe away-Berlin (Top Gun!)

And i even listen to Bon Jovi and Glee Cast from time to time.

I listen to The Partridge Family!! :D Still, no reason to call any of this a 'guilty pleasure'. To me, if you enjoy it, listen! Don't worry about what anyone thinks!

Michael Jackson and Linkin Park. If you knew how old I was, you'd know why I call them my guilty pleasure. Not that age should dictate what is acceptable for a person to listen to... just sayin', you know.

I don't really have guilty pleasures. My favorite band is Hanson, a band a lot of people would consider a "guilty" pleasure but, they're my favorite and have been for years, they're awesome and I'm proud to be a fan!

Are they still recording? I remember their breakthrough hit "Mmmm Bop" which was #1 hit in Poland for weeks. My sister used to play their album a lot.

I did sound for them about 4 years ago, and it was the only show I ever did, where a LOT of girls slept in line on the sidewalk, OVERNIGHT(and it was cold!), so they'd have first crack and being up front for the show.(obviously, this was way after their teenybopper years)

After the show, I saved this huge red "I love Hanson" heart, just because I thought it was sooooo funny. I still have it....I guess for just admiring people's fandom.

Yep, that still happens regularly. The longest I've waited is just six hours but I've heard of lines that started a few days before, particularly for their hometown shows in Tulsa. They still have a very loyal and strong fanbase, and with reason! They're one of the tightest, hard-working bands around today, they just still get pegged for a 15 year old song that they wrote when they were middle schoolers.

Yes, very much so! Their most recent album, Shout It Out, came out in 2010. They put out new material pretty often and tour, at least within the US, almost every year. They're having their first international tour (UK/Europe/South America) in five years this fall too. Crazily, "Mmmbop" will be 15 years old this year, and it's the 20th anniversary of the band!

I love 1970's disco and 80's dance tunes and still enjoy them today.

I was not happy when the disco record/tape burning in the late 1970's but I would love to see that happen to today' s crap music.

Mick

That is kind of an outmoded perception of ABBA .The two ladies are actually two of the more accomplished vocalist in the history of pop and the composers Bjorn and Benny and earlier on Stig had a gift for crafting melodic almost symphonic pop that is likely unparralelled in their consistency .I listen to ABBA with pleasure and no guilt at all.The case can credibly argued that they are the greatest"pop" band of all tme.

This is a great, old thread.

I'm only embarrassed that I like ABBA b/c so much of the gen. pop and radio stations only think/play "Dancing Queen" :distress: They recorded so many other GREAT songs that get ignored.

I'm not shy to tell anyone I LOVE the B52's (Another ex. Love Shack) They have so many other great tracks.

Last summer I feel in love with Wicked:The Musical, bought the soundtrack and know almost every line :D
