I was thinking about the concert Stevie said she walked off the stage and vowed to never sing in public again. Does anyone know the details of this story. Which tour was this on or anyone know the exact show? Was it before or after klonopin detox? How long was she absent from the stage? What was her return performance?

As far as I know, it was during the Street Angel tour.

It was the Street Angel tour, and I think that this line of hers tends to get a bit overdramatized (as do most things Stevie says). In several interviews (I think the Rosie O'Donnell Show being one), she clarified that she meant she'd never sing in public again at that weight. But I do think this was likely a dark period for Stevie, as she was also in a songwriting funk as well ("That Made Me Stronger").

Her "return performance" would, I guess, have been The Dance, even though she did a few one-off concerts (sponsored by local radio stations) and benefits in 1996.

Really? This is interesting! Are there any videos of these? Or audio? I had always thought she did no love work between the end of Street Angel and The Dance. Good to know otherwise!

Yes, some of the shows were filmed.

I have the one she did at Boston Common in 1996. The highlight was Stevie debuting 'Twisted' live.

Yes, and another one was at the Polaris Amphitheatre in Columbus, Ohio in the Summer of 1996. I remember that one very well :-)

I don't there was a specific show where she decided she wouldn't go back on stage...but, it was during the Street Angel tour.

She actually performed better vocally, in my opinion, than she had in years and on her prior tours. The concert was really good......BUT, then you would read the reviews in the newspaper....and seriously all they talked about was her weight.

I still have the newspaper clipping from the Dallas Morning News where it says something to the effect "Gold Dust Woman.....Tarnished." And some other very stupid review compared her to the Nora Desmond character in Sunset Blvd.....stating Stevie Nicks was no longer the Doe eyed Goddess she used to be and that she was clueless and lost in her own world thinking that she still is. The reviewers, were flat out mean spirited.

It's sad when the rest of the world wants you to be something else, and are cruel about it and sometimes forget that these celebrities are still humans that do get their feelings hurt when mean things are said.

But, on the good side.....that low period really showed how important her career and her fans are to her. She really pulled her stuff together.......and to see her now still kind of makes my eyes water. She looks and sounds wonderful now, and she smiles more on stage, and talks to her audience. She is just such a fighter.......I love that about her......and she always wins. So to answer the question for Rhiannon "Will you ever win?"

I have to say.......Rhiannon has won the game...... :)

And how about the stories she tells where she realized the klonopin was affecting her so badly. So she gave her daily dose to her assistant glen to see what would happen to him and while he was setting up a stereo he passes out...and her doctor says "what are you trying to do kill him" and she asks "what are you trying to do kill me?"…we really need this movie to get made!

there were 3 concerts in '96 - one was 7/4 in Florida which I went to - was the first ever live performance of Twisted and the only time it was a duet. Then the Columbus show which I also was lucky enough to attend and finally the Boston one.

I believe she also did 2 private shows and she performed with Mick at the Kentucky Derby in May that year.

I'm very emotional about this. Thanks for posting, i haven't seen this in a while.
Twisted is, to me, one of the very best songs she wrote, it's a perfect allusion to her relationship with Lindsey, to the rock n' roll life, and of course, to the movie Twister. Great, great lyrics (i mean, every single line is brilliant!). If she really did wrote this in 1996, then that was definitely her come-back.
