I can't believe I missed the 20th Anniversary of the release of TimeSpace on September 03, 1991! I can't believe it's been twenty years!!!

I have to say, when I got it on release date then in College Station, Texas, I was so thrilled at the crisp new mixes, especially for "Rooms On Fire"~ sounds like a completely different version!

Originally, of the new singles, I liked "Love's A Hard Game To Play" much more than "Sometimes It's A Bitch". I thought it sounded more like something Stevie would write. However, as the years have passed, I just love "Sometimes It's A Bitch" so much more! Stevie's voice is terrific on it, and it is very upbeat.

The best thing about the collection for me was Stevie's personal notes to every song. So much revealed, so much left a mystery...

Nowadays, CDs are packed to capacity (witness Crystal Visions), so there is room for 3 more songs on TimeSpace. Using the rule of only being able to add anything that had been released up to August 1991, what would you round out your own version of TimeSpace with?

We know that in October 1990, Stevie had Chris Lord-Alge remix "Violet And Blue", "Blue Lamp", "Battle Of The Dragon" and "Sleeping Angel" for possible inclusion on TimeSpace. Would some of them make it on your disc? Other singles like "After The Glitter Fades", "Long Way To Go", "Nightbird" or "Two Kinds Of Love"? Stevie wanted the Rumours version of "Silver Springs" put on TimeSpace (nixed by Mick at the time), although she finally did put it on Crystal Visions in 2007.

Official track listing 09/03/1991:

1. Sometimes It's A Bitch
2. Stop Draggin' My Heart Around
3. Whole Lotta Trouble
4. Talk To Me
5. Stand Back
6. Beauty And The Beast
7. If Anyone Falls
8. Rooms On Fire
9. Love's A Hard Game To Play
10. Edge Of Seventeen
11. Leather And Lace
12. I Can't Wait
13. Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You?
14. Desert Angel

Here's mine:

1. Sometimes It's A Bitch
2. Stop Draggin' My Heart Around
3. Whole Lotta Trouble
4. After The Glitter Fades
5. Stand Back
6. Leather And Lace
7. Talk To Me
8. Beauty And The Beast
9. Rooms On Fire
10. Love's A Hard Game To Play
11. If Anyone Falls
12. Edge Of Seventeen
13. I Can't Wait
14. Nightbird
15. Long Way To Go
16. Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You?
17. Desert Angel

I'd love to have included the 1991 version of "Listen To The Rain", but it is an unreleased recording (officially). "Whenever I Call You 'Friend'" just sounded out of place, sonically/music-wise, as did "Silver Springs" (although it works for me on Crystal Visions).

Ooh, I just hated that all three songs from The Wild Heart are lumped together in the middle of TimeSpace, so I had to spread them out ~ LOL!

Happy 20th, TimeSpace!!!!!

Sorry if this is cheating, but I can't possibly do an alternate Timespace tracklist and leave those godawful 3 new (at the time) songs in there.

Also, did I hear that Stevie wanted to re-record Silver Springs for Timespace?

Anyway, here's mine:

1. Stop Draggin' My Heart Around
2. Whole Lotta Trouble
3. Talk to Me
4. Stand Back
5. Beauty & the Beast
6. If Anyone Falls
7. Violet & Blue
8. After the Glitter Fades
9. Nightbird
10. Rooms on Fire
11. Sleeping Angel
12. Edge of Seventeen
13. Leather & Lace
14. Silver Springs
15. Ooh My Love
16. I Can't Wait
17. Has Anyone Ever Written Anything for You?

I think Stevie actually wanted the Rumours "Silver Springs" on TimeSpace. Mick couldn't stop her from recording a new version (as she and her mother own the rights to the song itself). She then planned to record a new version of "Silver Springs" for Street Angel in 1992 (which she talked about in the radio interview about the Rhiannon t-shirts for the Hard Rock Cafe). I suspect Atlantic (subsidiary of WB) discouraged her from doing so, so as not to diminish the boxed set's release, of which "Silver Springs"' inclusion was the #1 selling point.

You can drop whatever songs you want! Just no unreleased songs or after mid-1991. "Ooh My Love" would sound great after "Silver Springs"!!!!

This is a great tracklist! Switch Ooh My Love for Long Way To Go and it's perfect!

I want to say I'd add 3 b-sides/soundtrack songs (probably "BotD", "V&B" and "BL") but if Stevie were making the decision back in 1991 I think she'd have added more singles. In which case I'd have to go with "LWTG", "Nightbird", and "ATGF".

Wow! How cool!!! All I had left was my final 2 Spanish classes left to get my B.A. in May 1992. That was the first night of the TimeSpace Tour~ no programs or t-shirts!

I knew I remembered something about her re-recording Silver Springs. It would've been interesting if she'd done it for Timespace, but I don't think it would've worked for Street Angel (it's starting to sound like she never did have a cohesive vision for that album).

I really liked that 2006 tracklist for Crystal Visions. That's about the best tracklist for a Stevie "best of" anybody could've come up with.

At the time, I remember thinking that I would have replaced “Beauty and the Beast” with either ‘After the Glitter Fades’ or ‘Sleeping Angel’. I thought that BATB was too heavy to include on a best of CD however, I think the sequencing of the songs is flawless, and I’m really big on that. If you listen to the CD in full with no skipping, 'If Anyone Falls' sounds excellent after 'Beauty and the Beast.' I also like that a lot of the songs were remixed for the CD in that new (at the time) QSound. The CD sounds like it’s an actual album and not a compilation of songs or a best, but rather a new CD from Stevie. It’s always about the flow. Enchanted and CV don’t even come close with their running orders. I love Timespace and wouldn’t change a thing about it.

Now as far as the Chris Lord-Alge remixes for “Blue Lamp” and “Violet and Blue”, those are the ones that should have been included on Enchanted, which is why for me, the boxed set fails on many levels, but that is another topic I guess.

I've never heard Chris Lord-Alge's remix of "Blue Lamp." In fact, I never even knew it existed! How has this one escaped me all these years?

Anyone mind sharing an mp3 or wav?

'Timespace' is a great collection. I love the sequencing and the subtle (but effective) remixes. I can't believe it's been 20 years already. Yikes!

I wouldn't remove anything from the running order, but I think if I were to add anything, I'd include "Nightbird," "Sleeping Angel" and "Violet And Blue."

Same here! Though as much as love these soundtrack songs, I probably would've liked to have gotten the Lord-Alge mixes of them all on "Enchanted" - The box set that couldn't possibly please us all if it tried.

20 years! Wow, what a milestone. First, the 30th anniversary of "Bella Donna" flies past in July, and now the 20th anniversary of TimeSpace "and the sands of time like shattered glass go past...straight back to the sea".

Ahh, the bitter era…I remember it well! Everyone thought it was strange Stevie went out on tour ahead of the release, plus Stevie in the press, was already feisty & slightly sour, knocking down SIAB not so subtly, and it being her advance single & all from the forthcoming compilation, it being noticeably absent from her tour set-list . All oddities aside, looking back at the time I was just thrilled to have any new music from Stevie, though I much preferred Stevie's penned material (Desert Angel) to Bon Jovi's & Michaels tunes at the time. Still it was exciting to see Stevie & her record co. celebrate her 4 solo album decade long career successes! Quite astonishing to surmise that the bulk of her entire studio recordings took place in the 80's with more than half of her entire solo output released in that decade! Anyway, It was an inspiring move for Stevie to bring in Chris Lord-Alge to remix & sweeten her catalog. "Rooms On Fire" was the best remix imo, it's so much more on fire! Mostly the others were just brighter and crisper. The only song that suffered shockingly to me was "Stand Back" which I found to be bit too busy and cluttered sounding. But not to be deterred, the compilation was a delight at the time. All those incredible liner notes, leaving so much to the imagination than before;). Oh, Stevie you little vixen, amongst other things, just what did happen between you & RH that made it impossible to ever see each other again!?! And the rooms were still ablaze. :D

As far as any track-list changes I might have done in retrospect, keeping in mind we did get the new "Sleeping Angel" & "Battle Of The Dragon" mixes as B-sides to "I Can't Wait" & "Sometimes It's A Bitch" respectively. I definitely would have added ATGF & "Nightbird" (after all, they both charted as top 40 singles) but I also love the idea of adding "Ooh My Love" along with "Long Way To Go", or "No Spoken Word". Especially the latter two, which both charted on Billboards Top 10 Rock songs chart when radio use to play deep cuts besides just the singles. It's hard to resist against better judgement removing outright SIAB & LAHGTP for history's sake. These songs did nothing for Stevie career-wise. But let history be history - It's just another chapter of an interesting & seemingly challenging era in Stevie's book to be written:rolleyes:. An era where the lady was just feeling pushed around a little too much! From Mick, from her management & record co. and lets not forget that pesky pill pushing psychiatrist! And it was all bubbling under the surface in all that great interview footage & newspaper articles documenting the nuances of that TimeSpace…The bitters of Stevie Nicks - serve that up cold and stirred, but not shaken. :o

12. Edge of Seventeen
13. Leather & Lace
14. Silver Springs
15. Ooh My Love
16. I Can't Wait
17. Has Anyone Ever Written Anything for You?

I would have canned those three tracks, as well, and chosen more singles. "Bitch" and "Hard Game" are just so middle of the road. But "Desert Angel" has grown on me through the years; I do like the solemnness of the music.

I could have envisioned the remix for "After the Glitter Fades" with a straight instrumental piano solo, similar to how it was performed on the Enchanted tour. And I would have given "Nightbird" a better drum track.

Is it me, or does Stevie look & act extremely p!ssed in every interview she did from this era? It's like she's annoyed that she has to even be in the same room with the person asking her questions.

I've always loved the remixes on Timespace. I'm not much of a Battle of the Dragon fan, but I'd love to hear what Chris Lord-Alge did with Violet & Blue and Sleeping Angel.

This was the first Stevie solo album I ever owned and I wasn't even a big Stevie Nicks fan at the time! I just loved SB, ICW, and ROF and was thrilled to find the CD that included all 3 songs. Keep in mind I bought it in the late 90's and it will always have a special place in my heart.

The Chris Lord-Alge remix of "Sleeping Angel" is on Enchanted, even if not labeled as so. The "Battle Of The Dragon" remix is on the Japanese CD-EP A Hard Game To Play, and the sound is spectacular!

"Blue Lamp" a la CL-A has been circulated (maybe by Maureen?) but I accidentally deleted mine recently. The drumming is WAY powerful, especially after final, "The stars still laugh and shine and shiiiiiiiiiiiiinnne!!!!"

I wouldn't cut any songs from TimeSpace. I like the historical aspect of the 1991 songs, and I do really like all three. But I'd add a few. Chris should've remixed "Nightbird" and "After The Glitter Fades" as well, and they'd fit in nicely. "Long Way To Go" would round it out for me, as I think The Other Side Of The Mirror is under-represented for 1991, when it was still a very fresh album for Stevie.

20 Years!!!!!!

Does anyone happen to have this Chris Lord-Alge mix of Blue Lamp? I'd love to hear it, if anyone felt like sharing...thanks in advance!
