Well. Not...that...dumb. If people were able to change their usernames willy nilly nobody would know who anybody was. It's not really needed as a user controllable function, I feel.

That's dumb? Yeah well it's standard on pretty much any message board. Say maybe "common" is more appropriate word. ;)

Once someone posts, changing a username causes system problems.

I think it makes sense to keep the same user name to avoid confusion, but if you're new and only a few posts in on here why not just delete your account and make a new one, carefully choosing a name you'll like and be content with?

That unfortunately is not possible. You cannot change screen names, delete a current account for a new one, etc. Our system checks for duplicate IP addresses and the new account would never be activated. Not to mention that even if our system allowed duplicate screennames per IP, or allowed us to change users screennames, people would most certainly abuse the privilege. Members would start taunting each other under faux screennames, we moderators would spend all our time switching out screennames, etc. Not being able to change your screenname is also about personal responsibility: stand behind what you do & say. If you can't stand behind your actions, don't do them in the first place.

Oh I understand the reasons why one cannot change sn's everyday, what confusion that would cause. I just wasn't sure if someone new could simply delete their account and just make a new sn they were content with on here. Just the one, not multiples. I don't think any board allows that and I've never tried. I'm FnF across the internet really and always been fine with my screen name. I'd never feel the need personally to hide behind multiple sn's online and never have. That's cowardly I think and childish of someone. And I understand why set rules are in place on here. :)

Ha! Love this.
I imagine this said with a Maggie Smith Gosford Park type voice while saying it... like Maggie's disdain for the marmalade in thwe scene when her breakfast is brought to her in the morning: "Shop bought marmalade. I find that very poor".
