I can't even put into words how excited I am about this show! So close to my job, it's ridiculous.
So, who's going? :wavey:
Lindsey is playing at the Grove within 5 days of Stevie. Will she show up for him the way he showed up for her at the Wiltern? Stevie! Do it! Or maybe he wouldn't want her at any of his shows?
:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Have you been to this venue before? I haven't.

Jamie! Rockin in the 714. Heck yes.
I have been there, but that was when it was called the Sun. We went for a comedy show. It's pretty small, but very convenient- freeway and parking wise.
The only thing that kills me (being a Dodger fan) is that it's basically in the Angels stadium parking lot...blech! lol
Even all that halo red nonsense wouldn't keep me from this show....ha!
Can't wait to see you two.

I'm in LA that week on vacation! I would love to meet up with you guys - does anyone know if there is a presale password? I will need to be up in the middle of the night here in Melbourne to buy my ticket by the look of things!

There's John Wayne airport in Orange County (closest, about 15 minutes). Also, Ontario Airport is about 40 minutes away.

FYI I just called the venue and they can't even confirm that she's playing there on that date. I hope there is no need to worry. She said to try back in a couple of days as they are arranging for some upcoming shows as we speak. I also asked if it would be G.A. seating or reserved and she couldn't answer.

With my luck, I'll buy a ticket for this show & then soon after they'll announce an LA date LOL....guess I'll do both :). At least the Grove isn't that far from where I'm at in LA, close to Hollywood. Problem is getting to the Grove on a weeknight! :( You have to leave hella early so you can get there in 40 minutes...then kill time around town once you get there...guess we'll go to Downtown Disney LOL

I think a big reason she's doing these small, GA shows is because of how much fun she ( and we) had at the Wiltern. She mentioned it several times. So y'all can thank the awesome Wiltern crowd for these upcoming shows.

AMEX used a new password for Sting recently...AXPEVENT.

It's a weeknight, so getting to Anaheim from L.A. SUCKS!!!!!!!!!
We also wouldn't get home till after midnight & we all get up @ 5.
The GA also irritates me.....I can't be there early enough to wait in line, hoping that my $ 100 something dollar ticket leaves me standing in the very back LOL
Stevie....set another LA date!!!

During the radio ad, in the background they are playing concert versions of her songs, I think there are 2 different ads, but at the end she's in concert saying thank you.
Also, they play a few of her old songs, no new songs, but they do mention her new album In Your Dreams is out now. Couldn't they play a second or two of one of her new songs?
At the Grove there is a huge poster of Chris Isaak, and I've seen Lindsey's upcoming show there advertised, I wonder if there will be enough time to promote Stevie's show there other than radio ads?
I think that's why the Wiltern wasn't sold out-no promotion. Also there weren't many people at Amoeba, again, no promotion. Last time she played Vegas, no promotion. Is this because things seem to be so last minute with her this year, or do people not want to put money out for her? I think it's strange.

Starting to get more and more excited!!! :]
I called the venue today. The girl I talked to sounded kinda dumb, but she answered a couple questions I had at least:
There were 275 tickets sold for the general admission floor area. She said they wouldn't know until that day if wristbands would be given or not. (I think they should, if even to make it easier on them when people want to go in and out to the restroom).
The doors open at 7pm.
Parking is $10, cash. She told me the lot should be open (at least when I get there between 4- 5:00 pm.)
There are restaurants, fast food and Starbucks across the street. So that means restrooms when we need them while we're in line.
See you guys there!

Weather.com says it's 101 degrees at Disneyland right now! (which is down the street from the venue) There's probably people passing out in line for Space Mountain as we speak! What the hell, Becca???
Whatever. At least we won't be out there all day. Heading out the door soon. Should be there around 4pm. I'm prepared for the 714 heat. Bring it! Del Scorcho!!

What a day! Right when I thought I was going crazy from the heat, some of my favorite Ledgies showed up. :).
This was my first time being front and center and I was pretty much in a trance the entire time. Stevie and the band all sounded great. She was funny and kept moving her mic stand closer and closer to my hands.. I could have reached out and one point and grabbed the ribbons hanging from the mic stand, but I used restraint and didn't!
I'm still in a bit of a daze from the heat and being so close to the Queen but overall it was a fantastic experience.
And tmi maybe? I got Stevie spit on my hand! There! I said it! And that spit made me stronger.

so, yesterday was my first Stevie Nicks show and it was TOTALLY amazing.
i gotta say, i was totally bummed out that the box office people at the venue don't do upgrades. that was probably the one lame thing, and then sitting next to these two older ladies who actually started cussing out this woman for "cheering too much for Stevie." i was kind of floored, ya know? it's a freakin' concert and it's freakin' Stevie Nicks, not Chopin.
but aside from that? such a great show, i really love her. she rocked it!
becca, i believe you promised to sell me some of the Stevie spit if it so happened that some would land on you.... ;)

Stevie Nicks enraptures fans in AnaheimThe Hall of Famer was as beguiling and vocally powerful as ever in her most intimate O.C. performance in years.
By GEORGE A. PAUL / FOR THE ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER
Stevie Nicks came on strong and finished like a gentle breeze in one of her most intimate Orange County solo shows in recent memory, Wednesday night at City National Grove of Anaheim.
Over the course of a two-hour performance, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and Fleetwood Mac mainstay was in fine form. Entering to Missing Persons’ “Destination Unknown” (perhaps a nod to her hard-partying years), she and her nine-piece band tore through “Stand Back” as Nicks did some of those trademark twirls. Then she immediately provided a disclaimer: “This is not a greatest hits tour. I’m promoting a record that I believe in from the bottom of my soul. Let’s get this party started.”
I missed Nicks with Rod Stewart at the Hollywood Bowl (which landed right in the middle of Coachella) but never thought she’d return to play such a small venue. A large portion of the packed Grove audience had probably seen her before, either alone or with the Mac, so hearing a set half-devoted to newer material didn’t seem to be a problem. Those songs all got enthusiastic responses, especially ones prefaced by a riveting background story.
Bolstered by a solo career that crossed the 30-year mark this summer, Nicks’ popularity has rarely waned; the most successful of all Mac musicians, each of her albums has been certified gold or platinum. The 63-year-old singer has a legion of unique followers – female and male – who dress like and impersonate her. Nicks even joined Maroon 5 for a version of “Landslide” when that group played the Hollywood Bowl in July, a testament to her influence on younger bands.
Back in May, In Your Dreams, Nicks’ first studio album in a decade, debuted in the Top 10, with two singles eventually reaching Top 30 at adult contemporary radio. The strong, nuanced collection found her collaborating with longtime friend and co-producer Dave Stewart, the quieter half of Eurythmics, who also has worked behind the boards for Mick Jagger and Ringo Starr. In true classic-rock form, eight of the 13 tracks clock in longer than five minutes. Former paramours Lindsey Buckingham, Mick Fleetwood and Heartbreaker Mike Campbell guest on selected tracks.
“Secret Love,” penned in 1975 about a forgotten tryst, had an understated yet seductive charm in concert; paired with the always-by-her-side backing vocals of Sharon Celani and sister-in-law Lori Nicks, it was truly sublime, with Nicks impressively sustaining a note at the end. Elegant, slowly driving rocker “Moonlight (A Vampire’s Dream),” inspired by seeing the Twilight: New Moon movie during the 2009 Fleetwood Mac world tour, featured horse images on a projection screen, as Nicks spread her chiffon layered arms out for expressive effect and wailed.
A long buildup on “Gold Dust Woman” heightened anticipation and facilitated the singer’s first costume change. Nicks was totally immersed in the Mac tune, while Jimmy Paxson’s prominent beats and Waddy Wachtel’s swirling guitar work added to the mystique. (Most of the top-notch band has been with Nicks for decades. Their familiarity with the older material was evident, though Wachtel also ably handled Buckingham's guitar drone from the new title track.)
Describing how moved she was following a 2005 trip to visit wounded service members at what is now the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Maryland, where she inadvertently experienced a Medivac arrival, Nicks said she’s “never been the same since.” The stark song “Soldier’s Angel” grew out of that: more filled-out musically live, it found Nicks singing dramatically as a picture of her with an American flag and the handwritten lyrics appeared on screen.
Of all the new songs, “Annabel Lee” came the most alive onstage. Inspired by an Edgar Allen Poe poem and penned by Nicks as a teenager, it wasn't even demoed until the '90s. Orchestral keyboard swells and its breakdown section added to the pop vibe.
Opening act Michael Grimm provided acoustic guitar on the folksy “For What It’s Worth” (a new original, not the Buffalo Springfield protest anthem). Then an extended regal piano solo prefaced an epic, forceful “Rhiannon,” the initial guitar notes driving fans into a frenzy. Before “Landslide,” featuring just Nicks and Wachtel on acoustic guitar, she urged the crowd to “enjoy your parents while you still got 'em,” dedicating the song to her late father Jess and others. The song was touching as always.
Nicks brought out her male vocal coach to take Don Henley’s part on “Leather and Lace,” a track she’d rarely performed on past tours. The guy had a sweet tenor, and Nicks happily danced around the stage while he delivered the verses admirably. Another lengthy intro, this time for “Edge of Seventeen,” resulted in Nicks switching to a white dress. The powerful song proved how her burnished purr of a voice is still marvelous after all this time.
Grimm won the fifth season of America’s Got Talent last year, and it’s not hard to see why. His self-titled, Don Was-produced major-label debut came out in May on Epic Records. The singer/guitarist’s low-key, 40-minute solo acoustic set was well-received in Anaheim, garnering some hoots and hollers.
Boasting an appealingly gritty voice, his soulful, bluesy style favored such covers as Terry Reid & Graham Nash’s “Without Expression,” the Allman Brothers Band’s “Midnight Rider,” Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Simple Man” (Travis Tritt sings it with Grimm on the album) and the Faces’ “Stay With Me,” for which he was joined here by Nicks' players (Wachtel provided session guitar work for Grimm).
Fleetwood Mac has always been a fave of Bill Clinton's – remember his first inauguration ball in 1993, where the band got back together to perform “Don’t Stop” (his campaign theme) after an extended absence? On Friday, Nicks headlines a 65th birthday gala for the former president at the Hollywood Palladium. Proceeds benefit Clinton’s charity (click that link for info on the very pricey ducats).
And Mac fans should note: Buckingham, who appears tonight at UCLA's Royce Hall, also happens to be headed to the Grove, on Monday. Tickets are $35-$55.

Three things worth knowing about Stevie Nicks' concerts nowadays: 1) she limits herself to between two and three stage spins, and only during "Stand Back," which in my experience is always the show opener; 2) her voice continues to sound so spectacular; and 3) only the freaks dress up. Even with Halloween looming, I spotted but one witchy woman in a purple knock-off of Nicks' trademark Ren Faire/sorceress get-up; another lady wore a teensy, tiny top hat.
But there are still the costume changes (four looks tonight, including two black dresses, one white and one merlot, all in the iconic, long-sleeved, corseted fashion she has sported for the past three decades; props to Nicks for realizing that covering every inch of your body in fabric will keep you looking wrinkle-free and graceful). And it remains a great show--unlike her famed former Fleetwood Mac flame Lindsey Buckingham (who coincidentally plays the Grove on Monday), Nicks doesn't rely on rote showmanship, repeating the same anecdotes night after night, in the same order, tour after tour. Having caught a one-off performance by Nicks at a desert casino earlier this spring, it was a pleasure and a relief to hear new stories this go-round. The evening felt unscripted--or at least as unscripted as you can be at the tail end of a summer-long national tour.
"This is not a Stevie Nicks Greatest Hits Show!" Nicks announced as she greeted the audience before talking up her new album, In Your Dreams. Using her "magic sequencer," she said, she had woven new songs among old favorites. Judging by the stand-up-sit-down reaction to classics and unfamiliar tunes that ensued, this probably wasn't what this audience wanted to hear--and given the relentless crowd chatter, it seemed that most of the Dreams tracks, which included the Twilight-inspired "Moonlight (A Vampire's Dream)," the war-remembrance poem-song "Soldier's Angel," and the incredible, fresh-feeling "For What It's Worth," were ignored. Too bad: Nicks is clearly proud of her new work, with the songs bringing out an energy that was visibly and audibly richer than what she reserved for standbys such as "Dreams" and "Edge of Seventeen."
The lone, crushing disappointment of the evening came toward the show's end by way of a bungled introduction to "Leather and Lace," which included a reference to a certain mega-famous duet partner from 1981 and had the crowd cheering in anticipation of an appearance by Don Henley. Only it turned out that Nicks was just filling us in on why she rarely performed the song--no male counterpart to sing with her--and instead invited her vocal coach to the stage. Dude may be responsible for Nicks' return to glorious vocal form, but his voice so severely lacked Henley's essential worn, boozed gravel that he ended up matching Nicks in his register and delivered what a friend referred to after the show as "Lace and Lace." Bummer, but at least Nicks sounded dead-on. And we have him to thank for that.
Critic's Bias: I used to read Stevie and Lindsey fanfic in high school. Yep.
The Crowd: Mostly drunk, disrespectful and, uh, pretty lost. (Setting down banquet chairs in unevenly spaced, unlit, unmarked rows does not ye a theatre make.) Also, old. Not enough top hats, too much Tommy Bahama. And, for that matter, way too much chardonnay, Bud Light and the special of the evening, some kind of Midori/fruit-juice jungle jam that left the air-show-regular-type next to me slumped in her chair and drooling on herself by the night's end.
Overheard in the Crowd: "I only paid $6 for this drink! [Slurring] It'scalledthemellonball."
Random notebook dump: I wonder if anyone told Stevie and Lindsey they're playing this joint within days of each other. Ships passing! Like always. Sigh. (Fanfic folks, here's your fodder!)

Here's my review. Sorry if any of it is redundant or has been mentioned before.
I decided to break this review into sections, then give details in each subject.
The Day:
HOT!! A record-breaking hot day in SoCal. Kim and I got down to the venue at around 3:30 pm. Our tickets were General Admission on the floor, so we wanted to get a good spot. We scored these by using the American Express presale. I was prepared for the heat, so we brought chairs, beach umbrellas, and water. Still, it was HOT! There were about 12 people ahead of us that had been there since the morning hours. It started to finally cool down a little after the sun went behind the building next to us, offering shade. It was great to see some friends already there. (Becca, Jose and Maria)
The Venue:
This place is TINY. This is the smallest place we’ve ever seen Stevie in, besides House of Blues. It’s probably half the size of the Wiltern. The seating was set up differently for this show - general admission standing in the front floor section, with seating that tiered upwards behind it. The stage was shorter in length and height. I would guess the stage being about 4 feet high- the lowest stage we’ve ever seen Stevie on. The band’s instruments were closer together because the stage wasn’t as long or wide. Definitely a great place to see a show. Security was great too. Beverages were priced moderately – 2 bottled waters only set me back $6.50, a steal compared to most venues.
They let us in at 7pm. They issued wristbands right past the entrance gate for the people in general admission.
Stevie and the Show:
We ended up getting a great spot on the floor – third person back from the stage, dead center. It was actually a little TOO close, but we made due. We were at the most 10 feet from Stevie. Normally we like to be just a couple more feet back so we get even more of Stevie’s line of vision, but the guys behind us were tall, so we weren’t about to switch spaces with them. Michael Grimm opened for Stevie and he was impressive. Very soulful, old-school voice. He was very humble and seemed to really appreciate being there. He sang covers and original songs, then he closed with a Rod Stewart cover that Stevie’s entire band came out and backed him on. (Not Stevie though) He played for about 45 minutes. Then, as scheduled, Stevie came on at 9pm. She opened with Stand Back, wearing a red dress and bluish-green feathers in the right side of her hair. I was so glad she wore them for this show! (She did at the Fillmore shows this past weekend). She was all smiles and full of energy, and we all gave that energy right back. Stevie said to the audience that this wasn’t a “Stevie Nicks Greatest Hits” show, and that she had some new songs she really wanted to do and that she did her very best with her magic sequencer to sequence them into the old songs as seamlessly as possible. It was cute. Kim and I were pantomiming along with her to “For What it’s Worth” and she was totally getting a kick out of that, smiling at us as she sang. She mentioned her father before “Landslide” and how he always thought this song was about him, and she let him think that. She also mentioned to appreciate your parents while they are here. She dedicated “Landslide” to her God-Daughters (Mick’s twins), who were here and to a person named “Livia” who works for Warner Brothers. During “Soldier’s Angel” the background video was just a photo of Stevie from the Enchanted CD with red white and blue behind her. At previous shows, there had been footage of flag-covered coffins. I wonder if she/her people read comments, maybe even on the Ledge, regarding the coffins being a little too sad? Who knows. When she was introducing Annabel Lee she said she likes to pretend she knew Edgar Allen Poe 100 years ago and of course he was married, but of course she still knew him, and kind of smiled. She said “Annabel Lee” was required reading in high school, and that’s when she put it to music on her guitar. As usual, Stevie seemed to really like the fact that we knew the words to the new songs. She was smiling at us a lot, making us smile even more. We get such a Stevie “high” when that happens…sigh…anyway..
Stevie screwed up the first couple verses of I believe Annabel Lee, and for sure on Ghosts are Gone. She kind of mumbled, realized she messed up, stopped singing for a sec, then kind of looked down at her monitor and started the next verse in time. I think this happens because she’s having fun and not really thinking at the moment that she needs the monitor, until it’s time for her to sing. Kim and I just looked at each other like, what the heck?? But it was funny. “Rhiannon” was awesome tonight. She really got into “Moonlight” too. Stevie changed her dress 3 times tonight – red, black, then white. When I saw her sing “Leather and Lace” with her vocal coach, I realized that I had never seen her sing that song live, in person. So that was kind of cool. When she introduced Waddy she mentioned that he had been with her forever, and like her Dad (under her breath she said “Saint Jess”) always said if it isn’t broke, don’t change it. Then she said it kind of felt like her Dad was here tonight.
I wanted to make sure Kim got a Stevie handshake during the Edge walk tonight, because the last time she shook her hand was October 2001, so it was a 10 year anniversary for her. We’ve been to tons of shows between that time, but poor Kim always seemed to be skipped during the handshakes. Kim got her handshake tonight, and I got it on video with my phone. I need to figure out how to download it from there to the computer. That was pretty much the only footage I got. They told us before the show while we were in line that per the artist, please refrain from photos, video or audio recording. They also announced it again right before the show that Stevie Nicks requests we refrain from that. I figured getting the Edge walk on video wouldn’t be a big deal to anybody (except to us of course). The crowd tonight was overall pretty respectful to each other and to Stevie. There was a moment when there was a drunk 50-something year old lady to my right trying to start some **** with someone while Stevie was talking, but it dissolved relatively quickly. There wasn’t the constant yelling when Stevie was trying to talk, which was refreshing. Stevie’s sleeves and flowy material that was hanging off her dress looked positively weightless. They seemed to have a life of their own as the fans blew on them, which created a truly magical effect. Kudos to Margi Kent.
I bought the Owl T-shirt and 2 keychains. I think the font on the shirt has changed, because I could’ve sworn that when someone posted a photo of it on the Ledge it said Stevie Nicks on it in pink/purplish letters?? The font on my shirt is in gold. I could be wrong though.
Another fantastic night with Stevie Nicks. I am still wearing my wristband as I type this. I plan to cut it off tomorrow and put it in my scrapbook along with the tickets and this review.
