Dear gawd.

I can already form a list of the questions and discussions Howard will want to have with LB.

I'm sure that will be around the time of his NYC concert. Howard's studio is only a few blocks from the venue. And apparently very near my office, though I'm not sure specifically where. Though I did run into Howard (literally) on the subway after work one day.

I'm not happy about this. I feel nervous. I don't want him to answer sex questions.

Well, he can talk about sex in general, but I don't want him to discuss it in relation to any of the women in his life, not Stevie, not Christine, not CAH, just NO.

He can totally just not answer them. I haven't ever witnessed LB in this kind of a position, where he's point-blank asked direct questions about Stevie or the other women re: sex and stuff so it should be...strange.

However, I recall years back where Howard was being not very kind to FM in general. He saw some show and he said Stevie was a "fat cow" and Lindsey was a "drama queen," and then he went on to say how bitchy LB was. But then I heard another program where he raved about his guitar/musical abilities. So, whatevs. Paul McCartney was on HS and he didn't dish too much (actually Howard was way more concerned about asking questions regarding John Lennon to even discuss too much of his female conquests), so it can be done.

I just hope LB gets himself a little prepared in advance. I'm not sure he can do all those "speeches" of his with HS.

Stevie and Lindsey's new found "happy" relationship
could be tested by Howard's questions.

I absolutely hate Howard Stern. I would assume Lindsey knows what he's getting into but...I'm not sure why he's doing this.

I agreee. Stern usually steers clear of questions that are wildly inappropriate when he's interviewing musicians - people he sees as his idols or music legends. I mean, if he senses that someone's going to be really open & talk about their personal life, sex, drugs, etc. (Lady Gaga, for example) he's obviously going to go there. But he doesn't go that route if it's making someone really uncomfortable. If a guest say's they;'re not going to talk about it, they don't.

You're right, he was good with McCartney. Also with Billy Joel. I'm sure the old days of sex & drugs might come up, but he's a pretty big music fan & will hopefully focus on that. Plus Fred is very into classic rock, so he will probably push Howard in that direction & give him some interesting info to explore. Hopefully we will get to hear some great live studio performances.

I'm ecstatic about this. Howard is THE best interviewer IF and only IF he is interested in the person he is interviewing. I know he adores Stevie, and has had good things to say about Lindseys playing after seeing them at Huggy Bear in August of 09.

I highly doubt that! Howard has not been near a subway in 30 years. It's more likely that you ran into his "hot pants"-wearing doppleganger Ron Brauer, who was recently on Howard's show. The resemblance is uncanny:

Yeah, I am looking forward to this! He does some fantastic interviews, I hope he gets a little in depth with LB

I DID run into (well, walked past) Howard at a Rolling Stones concert at Giants Stadium a few years back

I hope that is the guy I ran into! I'd much rather that. It did seem weird that Howard would be taking the subway.

I am kind of excited about this. Yeah, Howard is Howard but that sort of lends to a more open atmosphere that can lead to interesting conversation. If I was able to enjoy Hanson's interview with Howard without feeling too awkward ("So, how do you boys feel about sex before marriage?" "... two of our wives were pregnant when we married them."), I think listening to Lindsey's should be fine. He's a big boy, he knows what he's signing up for. I look forward to hearing his smirk.

Lindsey is able to take care of himself, but he's kind of mischievous in his own right. He and Howard might be a dangerous combo. I don't want him to say something that will upset me. I'm not worried about him feeling uncomfortable. I'm afraid he won't be diplomatic enough in dodging questions, but might jump right in. Michele

I think it's safe to assume that Howard will have a low threshold for conversation invoking little/big machines, complex emotional histories, cycles and painting; that will stop after 30 seconds. After lathering him up extensively and marveling over his immensely successful career, he will touch on the following:

-Howard will verify with Fred that Lindsey is one of the best guitarists in the world.
-Howard will ask him if he's seen Mick Fleetwood's "tusk."
-Howard will ask him how many chicks he's b@nged.
-Howard will approximate his net worth.
-Howard will congratulate Lindsey on staying with Fleetwood Mac and lament over the many, many other rock stars who fade into obscurity after walking away from successful situations.
-Howard will cajole Lindsey into playing an old Fleetwood Mac song.
-Howard will ask to smell Lindsey's fingers.
-Oh, and Howard will ask about every intimate detail about Stevie Nicks' anatomy. It's practically unavoidable.

I can guarantee you that this interview will be historic. Howard will squeeze information out of Lindsey that nobody has ever heard before. I simply cannot wait for this interview!!!!

Add to Hejira's list, SOMETHING that touches on Anne Heche. Lindsey's already said plenty about her..

I don't know if this interview will be particularly insightful, though.. You know Lindsey is one of the best question dodgers and spin artists of our time. I think Howard's the one who'll get bored with the variation on "no comment". For example, how about, "Howard, I think it would be respectful to some of our musical contempories if I declined the comment on that one.", except, 30 times.. :D

We'll see. If Howard gets something new without being insanely crass.. so be it, we'll take it.

This is true. Lindsey always likes to smirk, lower his eyes, turn his head and imply things. He doesn't need Howard to goad him. It's like with everyone asking him about Under the Skin (the song) and whether it was Stevie who had trouble getting from point A to point B. He indicated that it was. If Howard brings up Sheryl Crow, Lindsey will have a great time fanning that flame too. It's not that he'll say a lot. He'll just say a few enigmatic, but still insulting things.

I'd prefer he not talk about Stevie, Christine, Anne, CAH or Sheryl. If he says something untoward, it will be reprinted everywhere. The conflict stirred up will be unsavory.

Let him talk about Mick and John and women he's dated whom no one cares about.

When Stevie was exasperated after the SYW tour she said something along the lines that she would leave so fast that the palm trees would hit Lindsey in the head.

I was thinking about Howard last night and I can imagine that he might say something negative about Christine. Hejira, I can hear him say something about "man hands" in fact. Feeling nervous.

I listen to Howard frequently. I won't be surprised if he asks Lindsey Buckingham about anal because he asks that frequently to guests to keep them on their toes. Howard won't put up with Lindseyisms and will ask things that will make Lindsey blush so hard we will feel it over the radio waves.

Totally.

Lindsey can get quite easily sucked into the "wolf pack" mentality, as one of the male counselors I used to work with used to call it. He did when on Charlie Rose (whom I can't stand) on PBS promoting Under the SKin ( I think.. maybe it was GOS). Anyway, Charlie was CLEARLY not a fan of Stevie and made some disparaging remarks (to the effect of, was she at ground zero on 9/11? So then why does she act/write songs like she was so affected by it? --- which is so absurd from the get-go it's pathetic......and LB just did exactly what someone said... the tilting of the head, the smirk, the "yeah I know" kinda look w/out actually saying the words...I wanted to smack him.

Well..

I am looking forward to an escape from the confines of the standard interview, where Lindsey can just retell the spiels again and again, and instead get some new, interesting questions.

That said, I hope he answers the questions (some of which are bound to be scandalous) with tact. I was looking forward to a potential FM get together next year, after all.

You're right. I think (if he still ends up doing this interview) Lindsey will know what he's getting into and be prepared. I don't want a painting or cycles speech about all of his conquests or anything. That would be terrible.

hmm, not sure whether to feel good or bad about this... i kinda miss that slight rush of press and interviews/appearances that we had few weeks ago around the time of the SWS release... and was looking forward to this.

also, whatever happened to that Martin Bashir interview? and, the hope LB will show up on SNL is waning fast - looking at the events section on his website don't see any free saturdays while his tour is close to NYC. :distress: :(
