I wish I could tolerate the chorus to ELY, because I LOVE the verses. But.. alas..

I voted GAG and ELY.

Why do so many people dislike Soldier's Angel? :( It's one of my favorites on the album. The rawness is refreshing..

Actually these are all (already) really great songs. Nevertheless, voted for "Soldier's Angel" and "Ghosts Are Gone". I love "Everybody Loves You".

Round One: My Heart

Onto Round two....vote for two more tracks to be kicked off..."Moonlight" and "Annabelle Lee" will be added in the next round

Wide Sargasso Sea and Italian Summer. They don't click with me the same way the others do.

New Orleans

Soldier's Angel

Really, the only two songs I am compelled to skip routinely.

I absolutely adore all of the live versions of SA, but this recorded version actually grates on me a little. Voted for it and New Orleans.

From this point on these are extremely hard choices. I really really like or LOVE the remaining songs. But with a gun to my head I chose "Soldier's Angel" (I do prefer the song live) and Ghost Are Gone :sorry: Mimi (mainly cause the lyrics do not resonate with me:shrug:)

Heck NO! FWIW is at least in the Top 5 songs on this near perfect masterpiece. :p

IA. "You May Be The One", along with "Moonlight (A VAMPIRE'S DREAM)" have always lock horns for my favorite child on IYD. and I'd predict as long as most Ledgies participate that these 2 songs will be the last 2 standing.

Everybody Loves You and Ghosts are Gone.

I like them both, but Ghosts are Gone kind of goes nowhere lyrically and I don't like ELY's chorus.

How could people vote off these lyrics??:

Don’t come here again
Unless fear of fire leaves you cold
And the cold makes you tired
If you feel it all
It’s all about desire
About when you were true
About a bird on a wire
And that was you

She does still hear him
All night long
The same song over and over
It heals her heart
No voice of a stranger
Could play that part
It broke her heart
Broke her heart

Exactly - and the instrumental bridge of the song is absolutely epic too, the vocals are great, my all-round IYD favourite.

Like I've said before, the stupid intro kills the song for me. That, and Stevie's pronunciation of "can't." Without those, it would be up there w/ FWIW.

Because of Dave's less-than-desirable harmony and chorus.

I voted it off and it pained me because I LOVE the lyrics to the verses/bridge... but.. the chorus is so bad. So, so bad.

Me. I think Everybody Loves You is one of the best pop songs she ever done. Works on ever single level. It's a reason why many people listen to the album. The song is not dependent on a chorus and is musically, deep. However, Dave asked Stevie to finish it. Hence, people are like Get Rid of It! It's a superior tune to FWIW.

This is easy!

'Soldier's Angel' can go, because it's got LB being 'raw' and 'muscular' all over it. *yawn*

And 'Italian Summer' can go, because when I want to listen to Barry Manilow, I'll .... well, I'll listen to Barry Manilow.

Heads-up to the 'Annabel Lee' haters: if AL track goes before ELY, I'll visit you in your graves and put a bat up your nightdress.

Annabel Lee is sometimes my favorite on the album. It's awesome. Great music, great tune, and a suprisingly different chord progression for music STevie wrote.

I ♥ ELY! I just don't get all the ruckus around the chorus/melody and Daves's very subtle vocal:confused:. The whole song is just classic CLASSIC songwriting, from the chilling lyrics Stevie wrote to the guitar solo and the sweeping orchestral breakdown - I enjoy this song immensely. However, based upon its so called controversial components & detractors, I'm not at all surprised it's about to be voted off, along with SA. Personally, I could understand voting off "Secret Love" much easier than "Everybody Loves You"! *smh*

I agree with Karma and Christopher. I don't understand the detractors about "Everybody Loves You" either.

I would say though that these remaining songs are all very, very good so anything being voted off now or in the future is going to be getting reactions of "Argh! This is so good, how can you vote it off??"

Food for thought: In all the other Nicks Survivor threads have we ever reached the point of "all these songs are good" as quickly as we do with IYD?

I have two CDs of IYD - one with My Heart (which I paid for) and one regular (which I won from a radio station later). The MH one doesn't play the last track (CTF)... and since I heard it on the regular CD, neither do I! :D:sorry:

Amen.
That's the one I would boot out long before any other.

I voted for ELY (good verses, weak intro & chorus) and FWIW (beautiful verses, but the vocal on the chorus sounds like nails on the chalkboard. And not little nails. Giant plastic "I Can't Wait" video nails.)

Why don't people like ELY? It might be the best song on the album. Anyway... it speaks volumes to the worth of this album that every song remaining is some kind of great or almost great.

I voted Secret Love and Wide Sargasso Sea (too long!)

I've repeatedly stated why I don't like it. Other than the two issues I mentioned, it's a great song. Unfortunately, those are two *big* issues.

Yeah Yeah, we know! The songs ridiculous techno opening 8 bars. The supposedly unbearable chorus, and the even more unbearable vocal Dave contributes - which btw allows Stevie's harmony to shine :p

The song surprised me. I definitely liked it more than I thought I would based on that first snippet Dave released. That clip sounded like dreck, but the song in its entirety has kind of, if Stevie will allow me, an ominousity.

I mean, with the echo quality, there's something almost mysterious about it.

I love Everybody Loves You. It's a complete song. Everything works - the guitar solo, the bridge, the versus, and what is great about it is that it's not CHORUS DEPENDENT. Remember Blue Denim; basically a chorus with a guitar riff, not much else. Too many of Stevie's song have fealt small or just the opposite — CRAMMED full of lyrics like Fall From Grace . This song is perfect. It is one of the reasons why In Your Dreams is a great album. The songs take us in different directions and this song takes us in a dark, sensual Euro direction. In a lot of ways it's the most complete song on the album. Thank god, she lets the good music come through. This should be released.

Well, I'd have preferred ELY to stay till the next round, at least. I actually really like the techno intro, and enjoy the whole track soooo much more than I do 'Italian Summer', which looks like it's going to hang around all through autumn, till the winter.
