I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I was just watching Stevie's performance of "Sisters of the Moon" from the Mirage DVD and I'm always touched by how out of control she gets at the end and when she's bent over crying and Lindsey lays his head on her....Lordy, I lose it. So, I'm wondering....I've heard this was filmed on October 22, 1982 and Robin passed on October 12th. Are these dates correct? Is this where some of this emotion originates? Just curious.

From my research you are correct: Robin passed away on October 12, 1982, On October 21st & 22nd, 1982 Fleetwood Mac's "In Concert - Mirage Tour '82" was filmed at The Great Western Forum in Inglewood, California. Stevie seems both angry and sad in this video. I love this performance!

Yes, the video was filmed October 21 & 22, 1982 at the L.A. Forum. Both nights were spliced together for the video, thus Stevie's different hair styles/outfits during the same song, like "You Make Lovin' Fun", "Blue Letter", and even "Sisters Of The Moon" is the 2 performances spliced together by Marty Callner.

I definitely think Stevie's grief plays into the whole show, especially "Gypsy", "Rhiannon" and "Sisters Of The Moon". I can only imagine what "Sara", "Dreams" and "Landslide" would look like on video.

I was in Austin for the final Mirage concert on Halloween 1982, also being the final public performance of "Sisters Of The Moon" as well. Stevie seemed spirited at the beginning on "Second Hand News" when she came out wearing the most giant witch's hat (and telling us, "Rhiannon wishes you a Happy Halloween!")!!! But mostly she seemed very, very dark and sad, only a few weeks after Robin's death. "Sara" had to be re-started in Austin because Stevie was crying at the beginning. "Gypsy" she seemed to be crying on as well.

"Sisters Of The Moon" was, if you can believe it, even wilder than the video... the final performance.

Mike, I was at the Austin show - that was my first FM concert. I definitely remember the witch's hat, but not the other tidbits and factoids. I do remember the intensity of SOTM - that made me a fan for life. Thanks! :xoxo:

i gotta say, that performance on the Mirage HBO special is just amaze-balls. the idea of getting to see her do that song during that tour??? i'm jealous!

also, i'm sure you guys have all seen this perfomance of Gold Dust Woman (i just found it earlier this morning), but it's right up there with that SOTM performance from '82. what i love is just that performance aspect. she's a true showman, a brilliant performer along with being a brilliant writer!

It was a memorable performance .Being in the audience I can remember when she got to the climax of the song before the big guitar solo they turned two huge super trouper lights on the audience and everyone went wild.

I didn't realize the Mirage concert filming and Robin's passing were so close together. I'm not too keen on "Gypsy," from that show, but SOTM and "Rhiannon" are spectacular. I always get chills on the "you don't change and I don't change" part.

And I've always loved that performance of GDW. Ole Mick is really eye f*cking her, too.

THe piano demo of SOTM has always been my very favorite version. Does anyone have a file of this they would be willing to share?

Ah, one of my favorite performances ever (along with Gold and Braid from her HBO concert). She blows me away with her passion and emotion during this song. I love when she's back-lit in blue, facing Mick and her hair is just wild and frizzed up and '80s and spectacular.

I also never knew how close Robin's death and this performance were. I was recently cleaning and found a reproduced watercolor painting nestled in it's packaging at the bottom of a drawer. I ordered this in 2002- I have no recollection of this, which is typical for that time. LOL.

The description card that came with it says it's a painting by Debby Faulkner-Stevens and it was sold to raise money for the Robin Anderson Memorial Fund at the City of Hope, and that Stevie gave permission to use her lyrics from "Sisters of the Moon".

Going to buy a frame for it this weekend. :)

Yet another great performance. She's the real deal, no doubt. My favorite part is when she goes for the tambourine. Work it, mama!

And it has to be said how great her booty looks in that skirt.

My favorite "Sisters of the Moon" on the '82 tour was the one at Irvine Meadows October 18. I kinda wish that concert was the one filmed. But all the '82 performances are really good (although I think the band played it better in 1980), including the US Festival, Memphis, Denver, Detroit, Cedar Falls, Oakland, etc. They all have a lot of Nicks passion, & they all sound generally alike.

People here are always stupidly ragging on the critics. But the critics, in those days, often praised Fleetwood Mac, & held them up as exemplars of great pop music & superb performances. The Irvine Meadows City of Hope benefit I just mentioned was named by Robert Hilburn of the L.A. Times the "best rock concert in Orange County for 1982." And the Rolling Stone critics, in their year-end critics' poll, named the song "Tusk" the best single of 1979 (as opposed to the readers' poll, which didn't mention Fleetwood Mac at all).

Kinda funny isn't it? She was getting slammed back then yet us many of us ledgies feel these performances were some of her best. The whole Robin episode has always fascinated me, maybe it's because she passed away on my birthday.

Its like Ann Wilson got standing Arena full ovations and. Chants for more...i heard her say that all the press would say was the once beautiful raven haired siren is now replaced by a big monsterl..dismissing her jaw dropping performances. 1990 or 1991...LA Forum sold out. First time i saw Ann in person, up close...frankly, i was surprised too...thanks to video fx...but only for a flash...she was a siren...and she rocked that show with vocals and stage performaces...

Same with Stevie...i wonder how long the critics stayed...or how they would bee so seperated by the crowd under Stevies spell. What other Rocks Star just threw her insides and her soul out to the crowd during the her gibberish, speaking in tounges...tortured screaming vocals....please. hard times, sad times, hard living...the whole reason she has a huge loyal generation spanning following.

The overwhelming consensus among the "legitimate press" (whom David is defending) said that Stevie was the WEAKEST LINK in Fleetwood Mac. Her solo career destroyed Fleetwood Mac, her voice was terrible, she was an ego-maniac, just being on-stage next to the perfection of Christine McVie was an abomination....

"Legitimate critics" HATED Stevie.

Everone is a critic...then there are some called critics under job title but...

They are like my Great Aunt Mary. Criticizing, bitchy, whiny jerks that should just be put to sleep.

Imagine someone saying Mother Teresa should get her nails done if she deals with the people and press and her publicity?

See what i mean?

Thanks for sharing! The version of SOTM on 06/13/1980 in Rotterdam, The Netherlands is really good quality. Do you happen to have the whole show? And are you willing to share? The reason I ask is I have the whole show but they sound like a bunch of smurfs and it was my first Mac concert. Thanks!

The overwhelming consensus among the "legitimate press" (whom David is defending) said that Stevie was the WEAKEST LINK in Fleetwood Mac.That's my memory of those times, too. But the band as a whole, especially in the United States, usually always scored.

"Legitimate critics" HATED Stevie.Well, a lot of them did, like the staff at Creem (remember the "blanded-out blonde musher" comment?).

Many of them were sort of neutral: they just thought she was overrated & minimally necessary to an album or a Mac concert -- like Steve Pond & David Gans. But others thought she was pretty cool -- like Dennis Hunt (who called her Bella Donna Beverly Hills show the best pop-rock show in L.A. that year), Robert Hilburn, Steve Morse & Ken Tucker.

I'm not a fan of this Gypsy musically (I actually don't like Gyspy live period), but you can tell she's very, very emotional during this performance - like, bordering on falling apart. :(
