It looks like the track has shifted east and that Boston will get a direct hit Monday morning. This could affect the loading/setup of equipment, I would imagine. If the show does go on as planned, I'm sure Stevie will later boast that she performed during the middle of a hurricane.

I just was on the Livenation site.I notice this fridays Orange County Chopper Show was canceled at the BOA.They didn't say why it was canceled for.but the venue does have openings before the JB show and after the PNC show.I dont know how are the ticket sales for Stevie's BOA show did.It it was sold out or not. Also I dont know if Stevie's crew wants to lug her stuff up the Boston from NJ.Irene is far from us now.it could go anywhere.Kenny Chesney was lucky to have an opening at the Gillette on friday. It sucks for the fans that had to travel to the concert.but at lease the show did not get canceled.

The storms should be long gone by then! At Holmdel, everything is covered, except lawn. It looks like shows from Sun-Tues are what's in question.
I'm supposed to leave for Vermont on Sunday and come home Tuesday. We're deciding if we want to risk it or postpone. I just don't want to spend my whole trip inside but I"m not sure how affected northern Vermont will be if the storm hits anywhere betweeen NY and Boston.

I hope that Mother nature turns Irene so that she goes out to sea and doesn't travel up the east coast like it's projected to do. Right now forecasters are saying that she is going to make landfall on the Outer Banks of NC (not far from where we live) then shoot straight up to New England where it will fizzle out near Connecticut. It would be nice if forecasters could nail down (no pun intended) if Irene is going to visit Boston or not!
Here's wishing that Irene turns to sea and that Stevie's show goes on!

My area of greatest concern is the coast from Ocean City, Maryland, to Atlantic City, New Jersey. It is possible that this stretch of coast will receive a direct hit from a slow-moving Category 2 hurricane hitting during the highest tide of the month, bringing a 10 - 15 foot storm surge.

(CNN) -- Five governors declared states of emergency Thursday as Hurricane Irene threatened to wreak havoc along the United States' Eastern Seaboard.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley declared emergencies for their states, while North Carolina Gov. Beverly Perdue declared a state of emergency in counties east of Interstate 95. The emergency declarations allow states to free funds and prepare resources that may be needed.
If Irene continues along its current track, "from a flooding perspective, this could be a hundred-year event," Christie said. He encouraged voluntary evacuations to begin immediately. "Anybody who is on a barrier island should go," he said.
Christie said it was too soon to know whether there will be mandatory evacuations.

CATEGORY 1 HURRICANE:
A tropical storm with winds of 39-73 mph becomes a hurricane when it's winds near the center reach 74 mph. The storm surge is generally 4-5 feet above normal. Damage is mostly to trees and shrubbery, with no real building damage. Average wind speed for a cat. 1 is 74-95mph. Minimum central pressure (980 mb.)

The new moon this weekend will wreak havoc with the tides.
Hurricane Irene: Path Goes Over New Jersey, New York, and Tides Could Worsen Floods
There is a new moon on Sunday evening -- and the storm track, as currently forecast by NOAA, will take Irene on Sunday over the major population centers around Washington, Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York City and into New England. A new moon means tides, shifting rhythmically, could be especially high during the daytime this weekend as the moon with its gravity passes overhead.
That could add to the 10-foot predicted storm surge -- the bulge of water a storm pushes out of its way as it churns over open ocean.

There is the potential for serious damage to New York as #Irene may make landfall over the city at high tide. Evacs in NYC have begun now. (Can anyone confirm? How many Ledgies do we have on the east coast?)
CBCAlerts CBC News Alerts
N.Y. mayor urges people to start fleeing Irene Friday . 6 states declare states of emergency #irene
"8 injured by rough ocean in Fla.
Irene could still strengthen a bit; up to 15 inches of rain estimated on East Coast.
Hundreds of thousands told to evacuate in N.C., Md., N.J., Va. areas.
NYC orders hospitals, nursing homes in low-lying areas to evacuate; further evacuations possible.
New York, Connecticut join N.C., Va., Md. and N.J. in declaring state of emergency.
Hurricane warning issued along all N.C. coast.
Widespread power outages are likely, and damage from storm surges, fallen trees and flooding could end up in the billions of dollars.
Irene's projected track was shifted a bit west, putting millions more people within the forecast "cone" issued by the National Hurricane Center in Miami.
New York City, Long Island, Atlantic City and Virginia Beach were among the areas now near the center of Irene's forecast path, along with even more areas of North Carolina, where Irene is expected to make a first landfall on Saturday near Ocracoke Island...
After hitting North Carolina, Irene is likely to weaken to a Category 2 as it moves Sunday into the Delaware, Maryland and Virginia coastal region and then on to New York. A Category 2 storm carries winds of 96 to 110 mph.
"Any further deviation left could bring direct impacts as far inland as the Washington-Baltimore area," National Hurricane Center Director Bill Read said."

I don't know what to say other than I'm sorry this is happening.
It looks like government officials in all the states that are in the path of Irene are really taking this very seriously, so even if the venue doesn't take a direct hit from the hurricane, they might be fearful of power outages, wind damage or tornado outbreaks inland.
Living in FL, cancellations due to even the threat of a hurricane are the norm here. I grew up in New England and it's very much like a Nor'easter warning where you stock up, hunker down and hope for the best. And like a Nor'easter, it's usually the storm surge that's the most destructive.
Here's a blurb from a travel site.
Irene-related flight cancellations piling up
Airlines have canceled close to 180 flights in advance of Hurricane Irene’s projected U.S. landfall and waived rebooking penalties and change fees, according to Bloomberg News.
American and American Eagle canceled 154 flights, a spokesperson said. JetBlue dropped 12; US Airways, eight; Delta, four; and United Continental, one.
Travelers booked for flights through Aug. 31 can rebook without penalty by Sept. 2, although the dates vary slightly by carrier and gateway city.
Irene currently is projected to arrive in Washington by Sunday morning. The storm could reach New York later that same day or early on Monday.

You think the rest of the tour could be postponed?
It depends on how bad the storm hits and where. Considering the remaining dates are in NY, NJ, MA and VA doesn't bode well. I can't imagine that they'd want to be trucking equipment around and trying to travel in all that. She might be able to make up some dates as this is the end of the tour. Or maybe they'll go off as planned.

I hope not.But we see.I went shopping today.BJ's was packed.Their gas atation was packed.Walmart and Shoprite was busy too .I dont know what she got planned in sept.
They could delay the show a couple of weeks. But the venues are probably booked up with other artists.

Ugh, I really, really, really don't know what to do. I'm in Pittsburgh right now, and I want to get home on my flight to Boston on Sunday to go to the show on Monday, but everyone around me is saying that my flight is going to be cancelled, and I don't doubt them. I might try to fly out on Saturday, but I don't want to make those changes and then have the Boston show cancelled or postponed anyway

I don't know if she's on The Ledge, but I met a woman named Irene at the Amoeba signing a few weeks ago...anyway...she was a few people behind me and when she walked away towards the exit of the store, she showed me her litho that Stevie signed. She said that Stevie said Irene sounds prettier in Spanish and that Stevie kept pronouncing her name in Spanish, which is "Eee-rehn-nay" as she signed the litho.
So...as I'm listening to the news about this hurricane, I keep imagining Stevie saying, "Hurricane Eee-rehn-nay better not mess with me and my people or I will be real pissed off!"

And, Eerehnnay, if you're reading this...:wavey:

Good news?
Irene's eyewall collapses; further intensification unlikely
By Dr. Jeff Masters
Published: 4:39 PM GMT on August 26, 2011
Satellite data and measurements from the Hurricane Hunters show that Irene is weakening. A 9:21 am EDT center fix by an Air Force Reserve aircraft found that Irene's eyewall had collapsed, and the central pressure had risen to 946 mb from a low of 942 mb this morning. The highest winds measured at their flight level of 10,000 feet were 125 mph, which would normally support classifying Irene as a Category 3 hurricane with 115 mph winds. However, these winds were not mixing down to the surface in the way we typically see with hurricanes, and the strongest surface winds seen by the aircraft with their SFMR instrument were just 90 mph in the storm's northeast eyewall. Assuming the aircraft missed sampling the strongest winds of the hurricane, it's a good guess that Irene is a mid-strength Category 2 hurricane with 100 mph winds. Satellite imagery shows a distinctly lopsided appearance to Irene's cloud pattern, with not much heavy thunderstorm activity on the southwest side. This is due to moderate wind shear of 10 - 20 knots due to upper-level winds out of the southwest. This shear is disrupting Irene's circulation and has cut off upper-level outflow along the south side of the hurricane. No eye is visible in satellite loops, but the storm's size is certainly impressive. Long range radar out of Wlimington, North Carolina, shows that the outermost spiral bands from Irene are now beginning to come ashore along the South Carolina/North Carolina border. Winds at buoy 41004 100 miles offshore from Charleston, SC increased to 36 mph as of 10 am, with significant wave heights of 18 feet.

So far, so good.
Performances of all 23 Broadway musicals and plays have been canceled for Saturday and Sunday, producers and theater owners announced late Friday afternoon, in recognition that many actors, crew members, and others face the same transportation and weather concerns as audience members do as Hurricane Irene bears down on the East Coast of the United States.
Pop Music
• The Dave Matthews Band scrapped plans for its festival on Governors Island over the weekend. The band said on its Web site that ticket holders for Saturday and Sunday could instead attend on Friday. The DMB Caravan event will be rescheduled, but new dates were not announced.
• Organizers have also canceled the Rib Rock Festivals scheduled for Saturday at the Nikon Jones Beach Theater and Sunday at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Newark because of the approaching hurricane. B. B. King, the J. Geils Band and Buddy Guy were to have appeared. Refunds will be given at the points of purchase.
• A Saturday afternoon concert of dance music at MoMA PS1 in Long Island City has also been cancelled due to weather. The Warm Up dance party was to have featured Tanlines, NguzuNguzu and Teengirl Fantasy.
• Also scratched was the Afro-Punk Festival ’11 with Cee Lo Green and Janelle Monáe, which had been scheduled for Saturday and Sunday in Commodore Barry Park in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. The increasingly popular Afro-Punk Festival, in its seventh year, was forced to cancel when city officials rescinded all permits for Aug. 27 and 28, according to a statement from event organizers. “The Afro-punk festival has been barred from holding any public assembly in Commodore Barry Park this weekend,” read the statement. “Afro-punk staff have been meeting with officials and sponsors to try and avoid cancellation but have had to cancel this weekend’s festival due to safety concerns.”
• The city postponed the Charlie Parker Jazz Festival that was to be held in Harlem on Saturday and Sunday at Marcus Garvey Park, featuring performers like Toots Thielemans, the harmonica master, and the saxophoists James Carter and Tia Fuller. City officials said they had yet to reschedule the event but would make announcements on the SummerStage Web site.
• SummerStage – the city concert series – also called off a Sunday concert in Central Park that was to have featured Jagged Edge, Avant and Melanie Fiona.
• Children’s events are affected, too. “Tunes With Tina,” a jazz show for families by Tina deVaron at the Bar on Fifth in the Setai Fifth Avenue Hotel, will be canceled this weekend and won’t resume until Sept. 18.

Seriously? You do realize parts of the city are very likely going to flood, right?
Public transportation will be shut down. It will be monstrously expensive. There will very likely be loss of life--especially among the homeless population.
I'd say the panic is warranted.

Let me guess. You've never been in a hurricane? Lower Manhattan and some parts of the other boroughs are going to flood. A large percentage of the population doesn't own a car, public transit will be closed and as Manhattan is an island either you're gonna need a boat or hopefully you're above the 30 foot storm surge that is predicted. And we haven't even gotten to the winds yet.
Anyhoo... what I came by to say was Irene's eye has reformed. Bummer.

I am going to go to Bethel, but I am also going to spend two nights in Pennsylvania (which seems to be safely out of the "hurricane cone") before heading onto Boston. A side of my brain keeps telling me that this is all overblown and that it's just going to be like nothing more than a bad thunderstorm. But the reality is that it's going to be like a bad thunderstorm... but it lasts 12 hours . No thanks. It's not worth getting trapped in the city for days and/or get my car banged up by a flying "The Learning Annex" pamphlet bin. I am positively spooked by the closure of Broadway. The show must go on. Not even blizzards have closed Broadway. The only other time I remember Broadway shutting down - 9/11. :distress:

I think as far as Bethel goes, I would bet that it will go off. But I can garauntee you that the powers that be there are going to be monitoring the weather very closely. They don't want a repeat of Indianapolis. And while Bethel is inland, it's the high winds that would probably affect that venue. Boston, in my opinion will be postponed, not cancelled. just a hunch. She could easily fit it in after JB. But here's hoping they all go off as planned.
