At this point it looks like a Florida or Carolinas landfall friday aft-Saturday morn. Forcast is for Category 3 status, which is AT LEAST 110mph winds. Be careful everyone out east!

The thing I dread most is that it goes into the inland Carolinas and dumps a bunch of rain. My condo in Charlotte flooded the last time a tropical storm came through 3 years ago... I really don't need a repeat of that situation (insurance deductibles alone totaled $2,000). Not to mention it would make my poor tenant homeless & possibly destroy most of his belongings. :distress: I'm hoping this storm avoids the Carolinas...

The earthquake was nothing compared to this hurricane. I am seriously starting to worry. Our whole state is in the danger zone. My house is old & surrounded by trees. I don't know how it'll hold up in 100 MPH winds or if the trees will hold up.

NYC is shutting down the mass transit system on Saturday in preparation for the hurricane to hit on Sunday. There's quite a few evacuation zones in the city but luckily I am not in one of them, so I'm going to stay here and see what happens. My apartment is on the third floor, so I don't expect too much drama. We shall see!

been through it all this week, earthquake, hurricane warning & just about 25 minutes ago, a tornado warning here in Sussex County. Luckily the water spout that came off the ocean out of Rehoboth Beach, broke apart once it hit the land. Never in my life have I been through all this all @ once. And the worst will happen overnight. I am really nervous & scared now.

Right. The MTA is officially shut down now. There is no subway, bus or commuter rail (Metro-North, LIRR). I believe that the cabs are also now running like they did during the transit strike, which means that they don't run their meters and charge based on a zone system. They're also encouraged to pick up passengers along the way so long as they have room in their cab. Mayor Bloomberg said it is unlikely transit will be back up by Monday morning, so I guess I'm either walking to work (I live in Queens but it would only take an hour to get to midtown where I work) or no work at all! We shall see. Probably depends on the power situation.

Trying to understand why it is that the hurricane is directly over Virgina Beach and a CNN reporter was on live saying not a whole lot was happening... Bodes well?

Well, there is a lot of activity here in Sussex County, DE. Tornado destroyed a house in Lewes & damaged 15 homes in a development there. I've had to take cover about three times now. New Jersey is having tornado warnings now! So NJ Ledgies, please take cover!

Stay safe, everyone!

Google hurricane maps - http://crisislanding.appspot.com/ Type in your city to see the forecast, radar, storm surge possibilities, etc.

I just hope that Monday's Stevie show isnt cancelled...but if the weather is bad...then postpone it...idk how I feel about driving in the rain to Boston...especially because Boston closed down the MBTA and pretty sure a lot of bridges are closed.

I think the wind blowing from the west is worst today! We made it through the hurricane! :blob1: No trees went down, just a big branch broke off in the woods & little branches & leaves in the yard (mostly from today's wind). All my family in the state is OK. Nobody got the tornadoes though the one in Lewes was close to my parents' house. I will finally be able to sleep tonight!

Lee :)

I am sad though that some people lost their lives during this hurricane.

I just gotta say...I am amazed at how lucky we got w/ our trip to NY. We got into Albany the night of the hurricane, no issues. There were landslides, flooding and destruction in a radius of 5 minutes away around us yet where we were staying, no issues. Saratoga Springs show no issues. Were on the first train to leave for NY the next day once Amtrack started up again. Now I see that the day after we returned from Albany there has been a big tornado go through the area. I think I need to buy a lottery ticket.

That said, my heart goes out to those affected by it all. Crazy times.
