Since we're all sharing pictures of ourselves and children lately, I figured we could continue the trend and share our pets!
This is Nigel... he's been in my life now for 4 wonderful years. He's about the sweetest (and dopiest) creature on earth. He got his name because he is an English breed (Cairn Terrier... just like Toto!), and when he was a baby he was so fat he couldn't walk right and would fall down. So I was trying to think of what a fat, drunken, English man's name would be and... NIGEL! :D

That's a very recent pic of my handsome little boy!

My other half LOVES messing with Nigel because he is so laid back .

Mine is on the left. She is named Roja. When I found her she had very little fur due to mange. Terrible condition, but now she's as good as new.

My ex Derek and I had this little red minature Dachsund thta I absolutely fell in love with. I really miss that little guy. His nae is Clay. Right now I have 2 cats and a dog. The one cat is an orange tabby names Norman and hes my little buddy. He's 12 now and still going strong. When I went to the humane society to look for a cat back in 1998 I saw him in his kennel and he was purring so loud that I just couldnt resist. We went into the visiting room, and he came right to me and fell asleep in my arms. We've had him now for 12 years and I cant even put into words what that little guy means to me.

I have an amazing Border Collie named Stoney - he's ace! I miss him right now though because he's the family dog and lives with my parents a few hours away. I'm looking for pics of him on the computer to post right now...
We got him when he was 4 weeks old, a bit too young to have been taken from his mother but he was part of a litter of puppies and his mother;s owner had to give them away asap as she had to leave the country by the end of the month due to visa issues. Anyway, my older brother wasn;t living with us at the time and he came round to the house and said to me "close your eyes and hold out your hands"... Now, being a seasoned younger subling by then I was a bit nervous, who knows what he was gonna do?! but I was not expecting this tiny little ball of fluff that he put there! He was soooo cute and for the next few weeks you had to watch where you were walking etc because he'd get in the way, and he wouldn;t walk more than a few steps and you had to pick him up... and then this little head would be looking out the top of your coat, haha!
Of course that soon stopped and it became nearly impossible to tire him out! Border Collies are sooo smart and he was a bit too clever for his own good at times, but he has been the BEST dog! A lot of work/exercise when he was younger though but his temperament is just lovely. He loves everyone! Anyone that will sit and pay him attention, especially new people, are friends for life.
He's 12 now and not quite as crazy, and although he looks a good few years younger and is in great health the vet had warned us that in the next couple of years he'll start to show signs of his age.... how will we cope?!

We are a five pet household. We started out with just the two sisters (Soda and Pepsi), then adopted Cola from a rescue centre, and found Solo as a 12 week old feral kitten at the back of McDonalds. In April last year we adopted Bailey the dog from the local dog pound (we had put our previous dog to sleep a couple of weeks before we rescued Bailey).

I have a turtle, he's 5 years now. I found him on my driveway in 4th grade when he was about the size of a quarter. We nurtured him back to life(he was basically dead) and now he's MINE!! his name is Junior. I wish i could take a pic of him, but he freaks out if a camera gets too close to the tank and.will.kill.me. LOL......oh and i forgot!!!!!! For my last year's science project, i tested heavy metal and classic rock on Junior to see if his eating, urinary habits changed, etc. And when i played "World Turning" he did this absolutely ADORABLE dance in his tank! I so wish i was able to film it!

I have a great dog, Max, who is 5 years old. He is a Cocker Spainel/Poodle mix. He's so cute and we all love him so much. Louie, he looks like he is the same size as your cute doggy. There is a picture of him in my profile here on the ledge when you click my username.
I also have about 17 hermit crabs. I got 2 of them almost 6 years ago in Ocean City. Turns out they need more than a little wire cage to live. Right now I've got them in 2 tanks, a 40 gallon and a 20. A couple years ago I adopted 5 hermit crabs, and thought that was the perfect oppurtunity to name them all after the Rumours 5.

I have 3 little girlies that are my babies...
Mavis. She's just over 2 years old and has lumps/tumours by her "lady bits", when the time is right she'll be put to sleep :( Other than that I'm enjoying the time that we have left together :)

Bella. Bellamory. Smellamory. She's just over 12 months old.

And then there's Maggie. She's just under 12 months old. She's my unique one eyed hairless rat, lol. She ulcerated her eye about 2 months ago and had to have it removed (I actually haven't got any good pictures of her with just one eye, so I'll show her off in her two eyed glory :P )

Willow (who is at the back) who is 8 years old this year. And Daisy at the front who is 7 years old this year. They are both Border Terriers and sisters (Same mother and father, different litters).
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v407/Em10012003/SN851093.jpg
And then we have Bobby, who is a Westie and 5 years old. Willow and Daisy are HIS girls and HIS girls only
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v407/Em10012003/SN850408.jpg
And then there was Rosie. She was 12 years old and also a Border Terrier. She suddenly became ill just over 2 weeks ago and had to be put to sleep :( I still can't believe she isn't here, it's so strange. I miss her more than she'd ever know :(

You people have some awesome pets! I'm especially missing the rabbits I used to keep. :( I'm typically a cat person, though. I don't have any pets right now, had to leave my cat Miko with my brother when I moved, she's the wild and free type and the climate up here wouldn't suit her.

Here she is in the tree that saved her life. When she was still a kitten she climbed above the flood waters during Hurricane Ike. That's where we found her after we were able to get a boat out there. After that she always slept in that cypress tree.

zomg, all the bunnies! I want a bunny.
We have a family dog, sort of. It technically belongs to my foster parents, but my daughter named her Princess:

She's so ugly, she's cute. I have never in my life laughed more at a dog than I do with this one. She is so funny-looking that every time she walks by or I happen to look at her, I immediately crack up. Better than Prozac, trufax.
http://i697.photobucket.com/albums/vv335/nowgozombiego/uglydog2.jpg
She falls asleep sitting up a lot. Then she'll slowly list to the side, fall over, wake herself up, and sit up again. Lather, rinse, repeat. 50 times.

She is. Still a baby. And completely insane. Hops like a bunny, flings herself around with abandon, wants to play ALL THE TIME. She carts around a squeaky hamburger constantly, and will bring it over to you and sit it on your foot, and then wait expectantly. I find myself saying, "We just played hamburger for 30 minutes. I do not want to play hamburger. NO PLAY HAMBURGER."
Boston Terriers are fun dogs, but if you don't want a noisy dog, this is not the dog for you - they make what I call the "pig-snore" sound all the time, which is a cross between snorting and snoring. And when they sleep, they snore REALLY loud.
This pic is definitely crackin' me up, I love it.
She is the best ever dog for the comic relief, for reals!

Everyone has such beautiful pets!
Here are mine:
Dunlop. We think he's about 12 or 13 years old. I adopted him from a local vet clinic when I was a junior or senior in high school. He'd been hit by a car and the staff at the clinic thought it'd be funny to name him after a tire company. I think it fits him pretty well.
http://www.angelfire.com/music6/walteregan/forumphotos/box5.jpg
Tiny Tim. Long story short, I got him around Christmas time about 8 or 9 years ago and he looks a lot like a cat I used to have whose name was Timmy. Tiny is a very sweet but very paranoid kitty with a lot of "issues." (The photo is actually rather old, but since he freaks out and hides everytime I get out my camera, I haven't been able to get a good shot of him in ages.)
http://www.angelfire.com/music6/walteregan/forumphotos/schizo.jpg
Dots. He's two years old and is a nice but very shy rat.

I rescued Ernie from a negelectful situation about 6 or 7 years ago. The others were bought as companions to him.
Here's a closeup of Ernie to give a better idea of their color and markings:

and I must include my precious rat Goobers, who sadly passed away last Thursday. I've had 20 different rats over the years and have loved every single one of them, but Goob was something very special and I miss him terribly. He was one of the sweetest and most gentle animals I've ever known. I feel truly blessed to have had him in my life.

I love black cats. This one was a beauty. Sorry he's gone. I know you must miss him.
To this day i still don't know exactly what happened to him. I remember that my mother was really tired of him peeing on her carpet (he did this a few times but he was only just a few months old) so she took him to the humane society only the place wasn't open so she left him in the carrier in front of the place. You have no idea how pissed i was at her for just leaving him like that especially when he would be sitting there scared for hours and she didn't even have to get rid of him.
I had another kitten BBK when i was 11 and he died. We got him maybe a week before he first opened his eyes and nemo used to treat him just like a little brother lol. He would get beaten up regularly. One weekend my sister and I went over my dad's house and my mother called to tell us that she was outside with nemo and BBK and he went missing. A few minutes later our next door neighbor was coming out of her drive way to go to the store or something and BBK kind of rolled off the tire. He didn't get completely ran over but his tail did so I'm guessing he died of a heart attack or something idk but he was only a baby. The sad thing is is that for the next week or two nemo would always look for him so he'd be crying around the house. I sat next to the stove for hours because BBK would always hide behind it :distress:

and I must include my precious rat Goobers...
Those frogs are so cool! Are they hard to take care of?
And that Christmas picture of Goobers made me laugh out loud. Fantastic. I had to show it to my kids - they loved it, too. I can tell from the pics that he was awesome, and I'm so sorry he passed away.
Rats make really great pets. My sister had a rat when we were younger named Templeton. Before we got him, I wouldn't have thought a rat could have a great personality, but Templeton definitely changed my mind. And he was flippin' smart, too.

I wouldn't say that firebellies are hard to take care of, but they can be rather expensive to keep (assuming you do it right). Between the costs of the tank, filter, lights (though they are primarily nocturnal, so the light is really just to help you see them. They don't require any special UV bulbs or anything), plants, substrate etc, initial setup can run into the hundreds of dollars, then you have to factor in the cost of feeding them. First there's the cost of the feeder insects themselves (and firebellies will not eat dead insects, so you have to feed live) plus if you want your firebellies to stay healthy, you have to gut-load their insects with a nutrient rich feed. I feed my crickets a combination of color enhancing fish food and breakfast cereal that I've ground up. On top of that, last year they bred and I spent well over a $1,000 trying to raise the babies only to lose all of them in a really bad heat spell. Over the years, I've also had the adults come down with various ailments - which of course means vet bills (thankfully, I work at the vet's office so medical care for my critters is discounted).
Day to day maintenance really just consists of feeding them, observing them for any health problems (as well as doing a head count, since they are notoriously good at escaping), and weekly water changes.
Thank you for you comments on Goobers. He was most definitely awesome. It's a shame that rats are so misunderstood by so many people. They're very sweet and sociable pets and I really can't imagine ever not having at least one in my life. As much as it hurts to lose them, I think it would kill me to be totally without them.

Oh I can't stand birds! How do you do it? That weird popping noise they make with their beaks makes me want to break something.
Popping noise? I think I know what you mean. Nelly does it all the time, but it's only annoying when you're trying to concentrate on something. I love all of her little birdie sounds, even when she screeches, lol.
Everyone has such beautiful pets!
Here are mine:
Tiny Tim is the cutest! I love cats.
This is my 4 year old Yorkshire Terrier/Miniature Poodle mix "Jessica" - named after... you guessed it!
I found her at the Humane Society almost two years ago. She's every bit as sweet as she looks.
[QUOTE=chelluversu;871980]To this day i still don't know exactly what happened to him.
I sat next to the stove for hours because BBK would always hide behind it :distress:
lol i love that look
Oh! :distress:
That's Nelly's default expression when I bring out the camera. "What is this contraption and why are you always pointing it at me?"

LOL and now i really want a bird..I will have a million animals when I'm older and hopefully nemo won't try to kill them =\
Nemo's default expression when i bring out my camera used to be kind of like "ooooh" and he tries to swipe at it. I have a picture of him while he is doing that but i can't find it and he's really cute in it :distress:
Just in case someone was wondering what BBK stands for...it's BooBooKitty lol. There's a reason i swear. When we first got him we used a box top for a litter box (he was too small to get into Nemo's) and whenever he would use it he would get a little of his poop on the bottom of his paws so we would always have to clean them.

I did a plasma installation for this guy years ago when I was still in Florida. He had 3 or 4 large birds in his kitchen/dining area. I was trying to explain to him how I was going to mount the TV to the wall... and he was listening intently... but every 10 seconds or so, one of the birds would let out this ear piercing (and I mean headache inducing) squak that would interrupt what I was saying. The customer just stared at me as if... as if he wasn't even hearing it. I suppose it's like babies/kids when they cry and piss and moan in public and I want to snap their little heads off... and the parents do nothing... they are desensitized to it or something?

How did I not know you used to have rats? (or maybe I just forgot?)
They really are awesome pets, but I'll agree that losing them is very hard to take. These two are rats # 21 and 22 for me. I still have #20, Dots, who is now two years old and probably won't be with me much longer. It'll break my heart when he goes - just like all the others did - but the joy they give me, even though it's only for a short time, is worth it. I think I'll have rats in my life until the day I die.

I feed them "just one bight", let them play with mouse traps, Daisy BB guns
are used for target practice with some, and of course there are the old farm

I've been holding this off for a while so I have more of a 'story'.
This is Max, he's my world.

Six weeks ago tonight, I was on the way to Derby to 'see' this little guy.
I had been offered a Pug, which is the dog I've always wanted but the little chap found a home before I could get in serious contact with his previous owner. Distraught, I instantly started scouring ad's from up and down the country desperate to replace the cat I had who died three years ago. Even though we have all the other pets, none have been as good as Tom and so I've been amazingly empty without him, my mum agreed to me having a dog.
So, when I came across the advert for him, I fell in love and insisted my mum called about him. It turned out that he had gone but the initial owner gave us the number of the people he was with because they were going to have him destroyed after he had bitten their son. When my parents talked to the people at his 'halfway house' we found out that he'd been hit all his life and hadn't had a single bath (He's a Shih Tzu so needs cutting and bathing). When I saw the little ball of fur trundle through I knew I had to help him and maybe it sounds stupid but I felt like I finally had a purpose.
6 weeks on and he's a different dog altogether and I'm a different person. We get up early to walk and I'm finally settled into a healthy routine. For the first time in my life I feel good and I owe it to my little hairy bear.
/cool story bro.

This is my baby, Salem. Or he will answer to Lord Salem. He seems to prefer it. He's a very spoiled child Feline hehe.
I was given him when he was a few months old for my thirteenth birthday, nine years ago. He was mistreated very badly by his previous owners, having been kicked around and swung around by his feet by a child as well as one particular adult who should have known better. He also has a hole in his ear from being bitten by their older Cat, Felix. He's almost blind and deaf which makes things very difficult when it comes to getting his attention.Poor thing. He's a very skittish and frightened Cat, as such he stays indoors because when he goes outside he becomes as Feral as a wild Badger through his fear. In fact, the night before he was neutered he vanished for the evening before turning up in the garden the day after, the ensuing kerfuffle resulting in a trip to casualty for my Mother with cuts to her head and eye. That's when we decided he would definitely be staying inside. And I don't feel he's lost out on anything as he's very territorial and anti social anyway. Well, to everybody but his Mummy. He's like a big child when he's with me. Very affectionate and free with the cuddles. He's an adorable darling, but very grumpy which I'm sure alot of people can relate to :P
Oh and yes, he is wearing a time turner as bling. He's Nerd like dat :p
fyi, regarding poster on wall. Replace Joker poster with MASSIVE Fleetwood Mac Unleashed poster as this was taken before I blew wads of money at my first show hehe.

I have 2 birds, a 12 year old parakeet named Crunchy (he basically inheritd a nickname of mine from when I was little, my parents calling me that cause they could practically har by bones crunch when they hugged me ) and a 11 year old cockatiel named Sunny. Since Crunchy is a bit hard to snap a pic of (he's a cage bird), I did manage to get Sunny out many months ago (I don't even own those glasses in there anymore) and and took some photos with him. He's basically a little pig: the minute you sy the word "snack", he goes running down to his snack cup, waiting for something. You sit in the chair between their cages, he goes running down to the same cup to beg. While he is very picky about his snacks (chips, cookies, cereal...all that nice health food ), he sometimes even wants us to hand-feed him. Again, this is an old pic.

Here's me with Rudy in 1999, doing his tip-toe trick atop the pilings. Sadly (and devistatingly) he passed away January 10, 2002. It's going to be 9 years, but I still miss him as if he'd been gone just a couple of days.

And, here's Daisy...flew out here to CA from OK on her own sometime in April 2005, after my mother-in-law broke bones after a fall off a stepstool & temporarily couldn't care for her (Daisy wasn't going back, but I think my MiL knew that from the start). Goofy beagle. She's got her own Dogbook page.

About 6 weeks old.

Mine, (Jessie) adores being cuddled. She lives downstairs because of the hound dogs upstairs, so whenever I'm downstairs on the couch she comes over and lays on my lap for like the whole night, it's so sweet! I don't think there's an aggressive bone in her body unless confronted with the dogs, she's really just a Sweet Girl :)

This is three of our five fur-kids trying to keep warm last night. We were getting annoyed of never having anywhere for the humans to sit so we put a couple of blankets on the floor hoping some of them would use the blankets rather than the chairs. The two girls (black and white and the tabby) were sitting there and Cola (the Russian Blue) came and forced his way between them and pushed and shoved until there was enough room for him to lie down.

Ah yes it is. He knows he is beautiful too. Unfortunately he also likes to be a bully and involved in everything that goes on in the house. He has been known to steal food from plates while you are eating, off the stove while food is cooking and generally make a nuisance of himself during all preparation of food.
His nicknames include "Darth Cola" and "Clyde" (as in Bonnie and Clyde - the "Bonnie" being the black and white one who is (or more was in their youth) his partner in crime).
All three in that pic are 12 this year. The tabby and the black and white are twin sisters, the only two of the litter, Cola the Russian Blue was from the animal shelter.

Here's my baby, Maddie. Her name is short for Princess Madeline Tallulah Ripley Clara Catherine Jayne.
Princess Madeline Tallulah - just because
Ripley - after Ripely from Alien
Clara - after Mary Steenburgen's character in Back to the Future Part 3
Catherine - there was a reason for this, but I don't remember. I'm just going to say it's Catherine Tate.
Jayne - middle name of Bilinda Butcher, singer/guitarist of the band My Bloody Valentine (and a personal hero of mine/very nice lady).
I got her about 10 years ago, when she was a kitten. She broke her pelvis when she was 6 months old. The vet said she'd most likely die, or at least lose her tail. Well, she's still alive and she still has a tail.

I love animal people. You really have a full house! Would like to see the horses too.
Anyway...I love ducks. I think they are so fun. Ages ago...and I do mean ages...I worked in a pet shop and we used to sell baby ducks occasionally. I would spend hours watching them. They crack me up! Some guy who bought one of the baby ducks, came back a year later and there is his adult duck...following him everywhere in the store. So freaking cute. He had a little collar/leash thing on it. The duck adored him.

How do you keep your Bettas? I've been wanting one for a while now but I'm concerned I don't have the right conditions for one. I've got a 2 gallon tank which I raised some Goldfish in that they've outgrown. I know Bettas like still water but I'm concerned if I try and heat it, I'll cook the poor bugger if the heater doesn't have a working thermostat. I've read about people keeping them just at room temp but didn't know if that'd be ok?

Thanks! I just snapped those pics last night. It's amazing how sweet and innocent Ruthie looks, but don't be fooled. That is Satan in a rat's body.
Cute pup, btw.

He was actually really good. Only meowed twice and tried to climb out once. But other than that he just stood there letting us do our thing. He is so cuddly now though, feeling sorry for himself for his "ordeal".

Lost 5 Years, a Colorado Cat Finds Her Way to Manhattan
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Published: September 14, 2011
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/09/15/nyregion/willow-lost-cat-from-colorado-resurfaces-in-manhattan.html?_r=1&hp
A calico cat named Willow, who disappeared from a home near the Rocky Mountains five years ago, was found on Wednesday on a Manhattan street and will soon be returned to her family, where two of the three children and one of the two dogs may remember her.
How she got to New York, more than 1,800 miles away, and the kind of life she lived in the city are mysteries.
But thanks to a microchip that was implanted when she was a kitten, Willow will be reunited in Boulder, Colo., with her owners, the Squireses, who had long ago given up hope.
“There are tons of coyotes around here, and owls,” Jamie Squires said. “We put out the ‘lost cat’ posters and the Craigslist thing, but we actually thought she’d been eaten by coyotes.”
Ms. Squires said she and her husband, Chris, were shocked when they received a call about Willow on Wednesday from Animal Care and Control, which runs New York City’s animal rescue and shelter system. Ms. Squires said that when they saw a picture of the cat, they knew it was Willow.
Willow was found on East 20th Street by a man who took her to a shelter, and Julie Bank, executive director of Animal Care, said the microchip led to the Squires family.
“All our pets are microchipped,” Ms. Squires said. “If I could microchip my kids, I would.”
The Squires children are 17, 10 and 3, and they have a yellow Labrador named Roscoe, who knew Willow, and an English mastiff named Zoe.
Ms. Squires said Willow escaped in late 2006 or early 2007 when contractors left a door open during a home renovation.
Ms. Bank said Willow was healthy and well-mannered, and probably had not spent her life on the streets of Manhattan.
Animal Care and the Squireses were trying to arrange for transportation back to Colorado. In the interim, Willow may stay with a foster family in New York.
“The kids can’t wait to see her,” Ms. Squires said. “And we still have her little Christmas stocking.”

Somebody must've picked her up in Colorado and then moved to NY with her.

This is my new fur baby, Socks. He's been at the sanctuary for longer than the 7 months I've volunteered thus far. I fell in love with him through the months and I never expected I'd get to keep him as my other Cat is a bit funny around other animals. But on Sunday I brought him to his new "Furever" home and, even though my Salem is a bit shy around him, the outlook is looking very promising.

These are the best pictures I've got (which says a lot about his willingness to pose) of Tony (aka Tooney, aka Tonel, aka Toonel), 16 years old and thoroughly useless.
The pictures are some years old, but he still looks exactly the same.

We used to have a second cat, Uggles, much smarter, friendlier, and generally wonderful. He died 4 years ago, aged 11. :(:distress:

These two fluffy darlings look the spitting image of Cats we had at the Sanctuary I work it. Zack and Dolly. Beautiful Cats with the nicest of natures. Zack used to have this lovely thing where he would "dance" with his front paws with excitement when he was about to be fed. And Dolly adored having her belly brushed. It took them a while to get homes but both of them are happy and warm and definitely have landed on their feet now :)

Lola is really super shy. Except around me. She follows me around and climbs in my lap and "tells" me all about it. I don't think Max has ever met a stranger. He loves everyone, including Banjo (which is difficult because he's a heathen).
Banjo, Lola, and Emmylou were all rescue animals. (Max was found on the road.) I had to stop going to adoption days because I'd bring something home with me every time. haha

The furbaby I rescued just before Christmas, Tony Stark. As he was the day he arrived at the rescue, dumped in a cardboard box. And how he is today (He's not as fat as this picture seems to suggest.)

Petless here too due to a fairly unstable life the last while. :( Luckily I get to see squirrels and deer and hummingbirds fairly often. :)
