Maybe this is old news, and I know I must've read it before because I found it in my old Fleetwood Mac scrapbook, but I honestly didn't remember it.

I'm still a child. I can certainly act like one, too. She can have me, as well!
This reminds me of when someone left a baby on Dolly Parton's porch with a notesaying that they wanted her to have her and that her name was Jolene. Quick, find a baby named Rhiannon or Sara!

Yeah, Mick mentioned it too in some interview. He said that Stevie was planning on adopting.

I remember that.......she was convinced she was going to adopt and her fandom was waiting for the happy event to happen.

There was also a piece in the one of the scandal rags around this time "The Star" as I recall that stated she was already pregnant and that the father was Joe Perry of Aerosmith..quite a baby that would've been.

At the time she also said that she planned to exit the music business completely and permanently by the mid-1990s so she could hang out and paint. I think she just wanted out of her current life in those Klonopin days.

At that time she was basically saying in every interview that she wanted a baby, this was also when she was carrying around baby dolls.

40's, childless, and like some women probably just rushing thinking of having a baby as the years ticked by. I think she is ok with the choices she's made and fine with her life today. As she's said, she's surrounded by friends and family and her pets and music that fill her life and keep her company.

I very much doubt she would have been be approved at the time as an adoptive parent. Drug addiction and history of alcohol abuse aren't exactly what social services are looking for when trying to place vulnerable children from unstable backgrounds!

If she had children in her life to love then they would love her and she might not of needed the drugs! Just a thought!

But that doesn't mean anything, in terms of actually being able to adopt.

This. Though there are plenty of families out there who are drug addicts and downright scum who are allowed to keep the children they have, despite being the cause of their instability. It's ridiculous that the children wouldn't be immediately removed. I know they're of a mindset that the family needs to stay together, but not to the child's detriment. They really need to re-evaluate their conduct when it comes to children and their environment. For example, addressing the issue of homosexual adoption. There are still far too many places where this is inconceivable, despite how good the couple would be in providing a solid and positive family unit. It makes me sick that bigotry is frowned upon in normal society, yet perfectly acceptable in the business and organisational sector.
Okay. Went off on a bit of a tangent there lol. My bad.

I remember that newsclip and thinking it made sense ~ Lori was having a baby, even Ann Wilson adopted a baby girl about that time ~ I agree she's probably OK with it now, especially having all those godchildren to love! She said seeing her child run to a nanny would have been difficult for her personally and I believe that...lots goes into a decision like that.

That makes me so sad. I wish she could have had a child but she knows that she was in no shape to do such a thing. I respect her so much when I read this quote.
"I never wanted to be a half-musician or a half-ass mother..." because so many stars and "real" people want to have their cake and eat it to. Example Britney Spears. Children aren't just accessories and Stevie has enough common sense to know what it takes to actually raise a child properly.

Yeah, that's not the way addiction works. My Mom cleaned up her act to a degree after she gave birth to me: she left my abusive father. But she kept doing cocaine for another 10 years. Nowadays she's a prescription drug addict. There is no logic when it comes to addicts, except the fact that their affliction is a disease. A disease that can't be treated by things that would make other folks straighten up their act (such as having children).
The thing about addicts is, they always have these grand, beautiful plans that never get accomplished. Stevie wanted to make a Rhiannon movie. She wanted to make a Goldfish & Ladybug cartoon. She wanted to write a book. She's been talking about all of these things since the late 1970s. Coming from a family of addicts, I can tell you- none of these things are going to happen. Just like her adopting never happened. I truly think most addicts have well meaning intentions- but they just have no capability when it comes to following through.

I really think that's the case. She was too wrapped up in her career to be a mom or wife and just stayed busy doing what she loved. A rock n roll woman and lifestyle.

Not true. A past history of drug addiction would not be a reason for a person to be denied the ability to be an adoptive parent.

Not true, either. Sorry Louie- unless you're only referring to addicts who are not in recovery.

In 1990 Stevie didn't have a past history of drug addiction, she had a current, ongoing and heavy addiction to prescription drugs which would continue for another 3 years. And a history of drug addiction wouldn't necessarily prevent a person from being approved as an adoptive parent but it would certainly be a major concern in the assessment, as would the many other issues in her life such as transiency and frequent, short term relationships.

You're right. I read what you wrote incorrectly, as though she were clean when she was talking about adoption.
A person's history of drug addiction would not be easily known in a home study unless there were past criminal charges.
ETA: I'm not sure how a person's current drug abuse/dependence could hinder an adoption home study, come to think of it. Unless someone came forward (in Stevie's case it would have been public knowledge), how would anyone know?

Seems like they would do drug testing of some sort as like standard procedure or something to me. But I'm not sure.

No they don't drug test as standard procedure unless there is reason to think otherwise. Unfortunately for Stevie her zombified presentation in interviews during that period was a bit of a giveaway!

I think Stevie always liked the IDEA of having a child.... but reality is something else. Just like she likes the IDEA of a long-term committed relationship and claims she would give up her career if the right guy came along... but realistically, her ambition and drive are just not compatible with that. She likes to think she would give it all up but I think when push comes to shove she wouldn't. I recall an interview after she had married Kim and was all about being a [Matthew's] mother... and then she kept working on the Wild Heart, and then was going off on tour and when asked about the divorce (right around the time the tour was going to start) she said, Well I can't just not tour, and I can't not do my music etc etc....

Yes, I think it's part of her 'romantic' nature. She wants/wanted to meet someone the way it happens in romance novels - where the attraction is so all-consuming that it obliterates all other options. In other words, it removes the responsibility to have to choose. And I think she actually had that with Joe Walsh. Only problem was that he didn't feel the same.
As for adoption... Well, at the risk of starting off *that* subject again, surely the proof that Stevie was never, ever, going to actually be a mom was that she had at least one opportunity to do so biologically, and didn't go through with it? She's also said recently that she knows the truth is that being a rock and roll star was always the only thing she really wanted to do. She's honest about that, which doesn't mean she has no right to express regret or wistfulness for the road not taken - at least not to me it doesn't, but then I'm a bit of a softie where she's concerned. :p

There was definitely one interview/article where she admitted to having no less than four, but I think a few people debated the validity of the source. It was a rather lengthy interview if I remember correctly.

did she ever officially confirm an abortion?
In my opinion, yes: she has confirmed it not only by not refuting it but by re-phrasing it in a way that makes it clear that she cannot deny it but she's damned if she's going to just say it straight out, if you get me?
She's said that Don Henley 'let the cat out of the bag' on that one and that he had to grovel for her forgiveness for that. She's also referred to something happening in that relationship 'that they weren't ready for'. And I think it's not a stretch to assume that more or less every time she says that 'it was impossible' for her or Chris to have a child while they were in FM, that she's referring to a scenario that actually occurred.
I really didn't want to get into this, because I know some Ledgies find it uncomfortable. It did seem apposite to the topic of adoption, though. I just forget that not everyone has read everything!

I agree that it would best remain something that is private; however, this has been made public already - nothing new here.. Stevie has talked about it herself. But with that said, she mentioned that it was something that she never would have told anyone or made public had it not already been revealed by someone else. So...

Well, if that's your criteria for a subject being suitable for discussion.... Things have been made public. Don Henley made them public, and then Stevie Nicks commented on them, which kept them public. So, with respect, it seems your beef might be with them. :wavey:

I don't think so. I think there are many people who had abortions at one time in their life who went on to have (or to want to have) children later, when they were ready. And people have also given children up for adoption and then gone on to raise a family as well. Finances, careers, addiction or a bad domestic situation can make you give up a baby at one point, only to want one very badly 5 or 10 years later.

^^^ Of course you're right, Michele. I should've said it was apposite to the topic of children. I'm always amazed at how poorly I seem to explain my viewpoint here. I think it's because I'm conscious of not wanting to write really long posts, but then I end up just spewing inaccuracies and half-baked opinions. Sorry, fellow Ledgies.

She said it. I don't have it at my fingertips to show you, but she said it. I don't come on this forum to wind people up or show disrespect to Stevie Nicks. She speaks about her childlessness all the time and I find the artist-motherhood dilemma genuinely psychologically interesting. 'Sara' is my favourite Stevie song and I think I've read and heard pretty much everything that's out there about it. I don't expect this will be enough for you to accept that she said it, but it's all I can offer unless someone else remembers it or I spend hours trying to find it for you, which I can't do.
I've already tried to apologise for kicking off this subject again, so I hope you'll forgive me if I unsubscribe now.

I think it's just a fact of Stevie that she's had the abortions, and she definitely isn't avoiding the topic in her songwriting. She wasn't ready then but maybe felt she was during a lull in her career.

Isnt it sad? They label themselves as Christian but hurl Leviticus verses from the Old Testament...and those esoteric at best verses that they refer to for their right to condemn and torture...is far from Christian. Not religiousy just factual...Jesus said this...love one another, help the least among you, it is easier for a camel to pass thru the eye of a needle than a rich man to know heaven. No, I will never leave you.
Todays modern day Pharasies like Michele Bachmann {I have 3 articles out on her exposing her deceptive, conniving bullshi* hate mission...with a flaming husband...and their whole Gay, Barbarian, Dicipline Fetish. One of my stories headline ended with...hey, I charge for that.
any person of income, race or creed has the potential to be the best parent. Also, private adoptions are pretty much buying a baby. Whatever it takes...as long as the child is loved, protected, guided...and safe.

Sorry about your Mum...and sorry you feel this way. I was a Hollywood guy in the 80s and 90s...it was the mean streets of my Beverly Hills neighborhood that almost killed me. I did a few big cologne, wrinkled clothing with a bare chest, mens hair product line ad campaigns. I was so fragile, self conscious, humiliated and replaceable and disposable. I sould my soul to a Hollywood Ceo and was in a prison disguesd as a gym for years. I was an actor but, to make money i modeled...which left me opent for "nice teeth but, does he talk?" I was lucky for my best friend to put everything on hold until i was safe...and never giving up. She was a busy famous actress...we are close to this very day. We have a show in the works as i have guested on her talk show frequently...and they want me as the Ed McMahon to Johnny Carson. Ive gone back to school. I film little TV spots for Charity, I travled Europe, I am an advocate for Seniors, The disabled. The people that are like i used to be...for them...and anyone, Im there. Getting clean sucks. I put down booze...quit powder....and almost 10 years later a kidney surgery was held off as a Dr gave me 60 pain pills a week. Oxy Contin dilauded. I accidently got hooked but didnt know until i stopped. That hurt but, unconditional love and a ton of hard work in fear with the help of those that love until you can on your own. I have an 8 year love affair with my partner...
please dont make statements about addicts or their inabilities to succeed, follow through...Im cool by your interpretations of addicted people and their failures...but, someone might read your words and say, hmmm it must be true...and then check out. Forever. I pray for your Mum...and any feelings you have that are painful to this very day. Love heals. Endless possibilites and Miracles.

I was not arguing that adoption and abortion were not related concepts. There was an earlier comment about the idea of Stevie not having a biological child when she had the opportunity being proof that she was never, ever going to be a mom, which is the context from which the apposite post sprang and I weighed in on that, saying that people who have had abortions did go on to be moms. It was an ongoing discussion and I think all of its actual participants understood each other.
