i think the more interesting question is "what singers would you chose to sing a Stevie song on a tribute album and what song would they sing...." for instance I would love to see Alison Krause sing Landslide...or Adele singing "Has Anyone Every Written Anything For You"

Alison Krauss should do Beautiful Child with a mournful fiddle solo in the middle. That would be stunning.

If I could sing I would probably opt to do "Thrown Down" or "Moonlight".
As for other artists doing a Stevie tribute:
Annie Lennox - Everybody Loves You
Heart - Edge of Seventeen
Lady Gaga & Elton John - Leather & Lace
Sheryl Crow - Landslide
Madonna - an electronic version of Planets of the Universe
Adele - Beauty & The Beast
Beyonce - Dreams
Allison Krauss - Crystal
Chrissie Hynde - Stop Dragging My Heart Around
Tina Turner - Gold Dust Woman

Why don't we actually do a tribute album? There must be people here who are musicians. I know I'd be up for doing a recording of a Stevie song. Anyone else game?

I wish I could sing. I can carry a tune and am not thoroughly dreadful but by no means possibly good enough to sing with a band or record. I'd love to do Gypsy, Stand Back, My Heart, That's Alright or In Your Dreams though.
If I can be involved in the Ledgie Stevie tribute album in any way - count me in!

:
Annie Lennox - Everybody Loves You
Chrissie Hynde - Stop Dragging My Heart Around
Tina Turner - Gold Dust Woman
These are all brilliant ideas! I can almost hear them...

Thanks. :) That's particularly true for me in regards to Annie Lennox and "Everybody Loves You"....if there's ever another Eurhythmics record, I think they should include a remake of the song on it.

We did one some years ago. I did Castaway but it was horrid. The music came out nice but my computer was dying so my vocals came out sounding like I was singing through a fan, and I had accidentally recorded the music way out of my range. So in short, it really sucked. So if we were going to do another one I would probably take another stab at it, simply because I've always wanted to.
As far as covers go, I would love to hear Bjork do Nightbird (doing her own background vocals in the chorus). Cocteau Twins doing Sara would be incredible. Yo La Tengo could do Enchanted really well. And for the wild card have Bette Midler do Garbo, but in the style of the demo with that incredible lilting guitar behind her.

I liked the Eagles tribute years ago.IAlso I thought there were talks on having a Fleetwood Mac tribute of Rumours with country singers.
I would love to hear a country tribute of Stevie's tunes.

I wish the Whitney version of HAEWAFY would leak on the internet. She's the one singing this on our tribute album!

That'd be good to have one person doing all the mixing etc. to be slightly more consistent in sound. I'd have offered myself but I just won't have the time to do more than one or two. If we can get enough people I think we really should. Not sure what song I'd do yet...

For hearing other artists give a tribute to Stevie....
Gillian Welch & Alison Krauss - Beautiful Child
The Civil Wars - SDMHA, Nightbird, Planets of the Universe, Sorcerer, Landslide
Alison Krauss and Union Station - That's Alright
Dolly Parton - Smile at You, Kind of Woman, Fall From Grace, basically any of the pms songs...
I'd sing Beautiful Child...
On a side note I'd love to hear Neil Young cover any of the ballads from Fleetwood Mac or Stevie's solo years and would not know whether to laugh or cheer if The Judds ever gave us a Stevie tribute!

OK if I had my choice to sing something it would probably be Angel or Gypsy. I really think we should do this everyone ! It would be a really fun way to pay tribute to Stevie if we could all make it work :)

That's interesting. If I were to sing anything, then I would choose "Ooh My Love" or "I Sing For The Things". But I am afraid that nobody would want to hear me singing (or should I say destroying) these two incredible songs :). On the other hand, if there was to be released so-called "Tribute Album" by other famous performers, then I would want to hear:
1. Linda Ronstadt performing "Rose Garden"
2. Annie Lennox performing "Doing The Best That I Can (escape from Berlin)"
3. Janis Ian performing "Landslide"
4. Amy Grant performing "For What It's Worth"
5. Bruce Springsteen performing "I Can't Wait" (in a big arena rock way :))
6. Bryan Ferry singing "Rhiannon"
7. Phil Collins' take on "Kind of Woman"
8. Michael Stipe singing "Ble Denim"
9. Prince performing funky version of "Stand Back"
10. Phoebe Snow performing "You May Be The One" (that won't happen sadly due to the passing of this lovely lady)

I forgot:
Pat Benatar should perform Stevie's "Edge of Seventeen" (in a dramatic, "Fire & Ice" way)
Ann Wilson-"Sister of The Moon"
Sinead O'Connor-"Beautiful Child"
Liza Minnelli :) -"Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You"
Billy Joel-"Rooms on Fire"
Kim Carnes-"Crystal"
Rod Stewart-"How Still My Love"
Cyndi Lauper-"Street Angel" (in a "True Colors" way) or "I Sing For The Things"
Gloria Estefan's Latino take on "Bombay Sapphires" :)

I'd totally sing Crystal, Landslide, Sable on Blonde or maybe Secret Love.

It was during the hype surrounding Whitney's last 'comeback' album I Look To You. She recorded HAEWAFY for possible inclusion on the album, but it didn't make the final cut. I think it was Clive Davis who said it. It may even have been heard at some listening party, but that last part I'm not too sure about.

That's a shame...I can hear her velvet voice rattling off that opening line in soulful fashion already. Maybe one day it'll shake loose!

I remember that album we did. I actually went to a recording studio and sang over karaoke tracks of Landslide, Dreams, Gold Dust Woman, Everyday, and Planets of the Universe. I think I ended up sending Landslide and Planets in as contributions. It was so much fun. I pulled a total Stevie and sang harmony with myself on POTU.

I can't really sing that well...if I chose an easy song, it could work though. Maybe I Don't Wanna Know, If You Ever Did Believe, Think About It, or Gypsy (probably couldn't pull that one off..). As for covers, it would be cool to hear:
Joss Stone and Dave Stewart- Stop Draggin My Heart Around
The Civil Wars- Sorcerer (the Buckingham Nicks version!)
Lady Gaga- Imperial Hotel
Van Morrison- Blue Letter (well, it's BN, but still..)
Avril Lavigne- Sometimes It's A Bitch
Bruce Springsteen- The Highwayman (Nebraska style!)
Carole King and James Taylor- Leather and Lace
Fergie- Sister Honey
Carly Simon- Dreams

How about throwing in a couple of vault rarities as the vast treasure trove of Stevie's creative output was never released.
My vote would be to open with:
Julia: Fiest, who could give this gem a good vocal work out. (Jimmy Iovine should be forced to produce it
And close with:
Without You: The Civil Wars (slow and very folky)

I would totally be down with a fan tribute album. I happen to be a music major in college, and can play multiple instruments: trumpet, piano, a little drums and percussion, etc. I am totally down with this idea. I can't sing well though. Could I submit an instrumental solo?

I would like to see some of the undiscovered gems recorded. We could hope for one or two?
Julia: Fiest, because she could wrap her unique voice around this song and make it her own.
Silver Springs: Alison Krauss, hands down, could give this a flawless charm in line with the original.
Edge of Seventeen: Ann Wilson, could just bring down the house with this, a harder rocking version of course.
Blue Denim: Annie Lennox, She could breathe new life into this tune from the good Street Angel album.
Sara: Josh Grobin, could turn the tune into longing for lost love.
Gold Dust Woman: The timeless Paul Rodgers, whose powerhouse vocals could restore the tune's rightful place in classic rock.
Without You: The Civil Wars

Well, I've just become Linda Ronstadt's fan (check out my Ronstadt's discovere post on this forum:)) and think she's absolutely fantastic vocalist and interpreter. When it comes to Bruce...I've been listening to his music since 12 years, so yes I am a fan definately:) I've got most of his albums (excluding only 2 compilations). I just love his lyrics and music, everything goes hand in hand. My favourite albums from him are "The Ghos of Tom Joad" and "Tunnel of Love".

Nice! Yeah, I have most of Ronstadt's stuff on vinyl- check out the Heart Like a Wheel, Simple Dreams and Prisoner in Disguise albums if you haven't yet. I am a lifelong Bruce fan too- I like Darkness on the Edge of Town the best.

And what about Tracy Chapman doing her version of "Landslide"? I love her voice and think it should fit the moody style of the song.
