Hi,
So first up, i LOVE Stevie Nicks (and i'm good at stating the obvious) her music has got me through some really difficult times especially just lately so I was just wondering if you guys have any specific Stevie songs that have helped you in dark times, or even songs that you just relate to in certain situations?

I think mine have to be Landslide, sometimes it's a bitch, wild heart and the new for what it's worth.

Beautiful Child. It's the song I always listen to when I'm feeling blue.

Has Anyone Every Written Anything For You. It's a song I listen to at my lowest ebbs to help remind me that although I may not feel like it, I am important to somebody. That somebody may not know I even exist, and may only be a peripheral "Love for all life", but it's a message I hold dear.

On a lesser note, although still valid would be Silver Springs (I forgot this before I edited the post. For shame).

Sara

i was literally thinking about this earlier, songs that i use as my very early morning wake up hangover cure songs. These 3 are probally that, which makes them somewhat special to me as i always hate the hangovers(obviously) ...and at 6am with a massive headache, you need the calmest songs to help u out, and thats what they do. i listen to these Over and Over(pun intended:sorry:) these are not necessarily my all time favourites, but on occasion, this is the first "occasion" that came to mind :)

if special in positive terms, Rhiannon and Edge of Seventeen, those were the 2 songs that made me fall in love with Fleetwood mac and Stevie :)....though EOS was mainly thanks the grand theft auto game with it being on the tracklist!

Interesting that most people's lists, like mine (Storms, Beautiful Child, When I See You Again, Goodbye Baby, Silver Springs), are heartwrenching ballads and not rockers.

Yeah, I think the part about it "meaning" the most is what does that. I mean, I like "I Can't Wait," but it doesn't mean as much as some of the others.

Now, the songs that Stevie has said mean the most to Stevie herself are ones I don't like much: HAEWAFY and Soldier's Angel, for example.

Sara(for obvious reasons)

Beautiful Child
Rhiannon(piano version from Enchanted)
Storms
Planets(piano version)
Lady From the Mountain(piano)

-those songs saved my life. Literally. Put them on repeat over and over and it got me through some horrible times. I almost lost it when i heard Moonlight for the first time..that simple piano brought me right back to why i love that song.Still my go to playlist when i am having a tough time.

There are many songs that I love, but the one that is most important to me is Landslide. I've had a lot of people in my life that I loved dearly but as I've grown as a person and they had either stayed the same or grew in another direction, Landslide has always reminded me that it's okay to grow and change. And if that change puts distance between you and someone you care about, it's just the way things need to be. And as much as I love all these new performances of it, I think the one from the first Fleetwood Mac Live album is the one that always gets to me. Mainly because it's the one that doesn't sound like all the others. She's so frail and emotional. I also love the one with the orchestra behind her from Crystal Visions, just because it's so beautiful.

The Highwayman
Lady from the Mountain
Battle of the Dragon
Nightbird
Garbo
Seven Wonders
I Can't Wait
Straight Back
Think About It
The Dealer
She Still Loves Him
Sanctuary

I know "The Highwayman" is not popular on this board, but it's one of the only songs that I think is perfect - vocal, melody, production, lyrics - Jimmy nailed it in the studio with this one. (And none of the demos or outtakes are as good as what was wisely chosen for BD.)
Also, it stands out to me as one of Stevie's only guy songs, speaking to a man's feelings (and without frilly references to paper flowers and the like). In its own way, "Lady from the Mountain" does this, too, at least in the one verse.

Beautiful Child - it ended a numbness for me, it allowed me to cry tears of freedom. I'm not really certain what this song means but for me when I listen, it is as if someone is singing it to me. This person is a real angel for me. It is healing.

Smile At You - 'My first mistake was to smile at you' yeah, ever love someone so much it hurts? The thought of their moving away forever or temporarily hurt so much you wish you could just erase all the love and time you've shared...

Landslide - 'I've been afraid of changing, because I built my life around you' same reason as above...

Silver Springs - The intensity of the final few 'and I'll follow you down till the sound of my voice haunts you' just gets me every time, it's a song that frees me from a lot of anger or hurt or sadness etc It is abreaction in a song!

Songs from In Your Dreams: More certain phrases that really sooth me than anything else, things I'd like to say to someone or things they've said to me...
For What it's Worth - 'You saved my life, I won't forget it'

You May Be The One - 'You may have the question but you'll never answer to me'
'I can't believe what you are saying... I used to love you so much, I was a starving child. I used to love you, See the light inside of you, I used to dream that , You were an angel, You were an angel,And I was a starving child,And we were magic...'

Italian Summer - 'There was love all around you just had to fall'

You've just put into words exactly how i've felt the past few months and why landslide is so important to me. My life and the people in it have changed so much in such a short space of time i felt like i was losing all that i was/am. I couldn't get my head around how growing up has to sometimes mean growing apart from the people that have been so entwined in my life for as long as I can remember, how my best friends are becoming strangers to me and how i have one more year left of my course before I have to go out and try to make it on my own. I used to listen to landslide on repeat all night because I could never sleep. Never before has a song touched me that much and literally described my situation at the time. I think the lyrics "can i sail through the changing ocean tide, can i handle the seasons of my life" are the lyrics that mean the most to me. Her music has made me feel a lot less lonely at 3am when i can't sleep. -sorry for the essay aha.

I never uynderstand why so many people don't like The Highwayman. It's one of my favourites.

Thanks haha,

basically, those are the only "gentle" ones on my PSP MP3 player that are manually selectable. amongst a few other gentle songs, the 3 i picked are the ones i listen to first. i do then try something a little more rockier like Sisters of the moon, but then i loose that atmosphere and feel worse so i revert back:D

on the other feeling when listening, its enough to half pay attention to your thoughts of the evening and reflect on whatever happened. got to remember, this is usually for me 6am when its almost sunrise, usually on a saturday or sunday morning, and im not awake and somewhat mentally ill , so thats why they work so well for me. :)

On those mornings, I try to not reflect on what happened the night before... wishing for those long nets of white, etc.

Silver Springs--started my obsession and this wild ride. Plus, the Dance version was the most genuinely intense performance I ever saw.

Real Tears--something about the lyrics just get to me.

Sable on Blonde-Learn to be a stranger...love that.

And, last but not least (for now), For What it's Worth. Intensely personal but I mist up every single time I hear it, including in the supermarket yesterday. Part of me was, Yay! it's playing in the supermarket! Part of me was Yay! Let's sing along because maybe it can be the start of some wacky flash mob or whatever you call those random Glee-like marauders, and the other part was...sob, I miss XXXXXX so much.
