View Full Version : Fleas & Ticks
I am looking for some advise for a natural way to kill or repel fleas & ticks. My toy poodle had a bad reaction to Advantix II. He has used Frontline & was OK, but it doesn't seem to work. I don't really want to put any chemicals on him. Right now he is having a flea problem. I'm mixing white vinegar & water & spraying it on him which smells yucky. He still seems to be getting them. I don't want to bath him in any flea & tick shampoo either since his Advantix II reaction. Any advise?
Thanks.
Lee :)

While I've never heard of or found a natural way to fight the little f*cks, I do just want to warn everyone against Bob Martin products. I had a friend who worked with the RSPCA and she's seen a lot of animals actually die following adverse reactions from their products.
I use Frontline on Max for both fleas and worms. I tried Vit C for his Kennel Cough right now but it didn't do anything so I got him straight to the vets for a course of antibiotics.

Cedar Shampoo and Cedar Oil on their bedding repels Fleas. I do stress that this is just for Dogs, however. As I haven't seen this method used for Cats, and I wouldn't like to try just to find that they're highly allergic. Failing that, a mixture of Lavander Oil and Rock Salt can be used to bathe your Dog, as well as placed in areas where the Dog will inhabit, like their bed or a Sofa it enjoys sleeping in.

Vet-Kem makes a great premise spray called "Siphotrol." Fleas jump on your pet for a meal, and if you bring your dog indoors, you are certain to have a problem when they jump off and wish to settle in, particularly as fall arrives. I got this from a vet once and it works fast!
Be generous in spraying about your home--furniture, curtains, etc--anywhere the dog lays or sits in particular (buy a few cans):

Good luck!
