My best friend works for a catering company that only does concerts. She's met dozens of famous people this way, and now she'll be meeting Stevie. Turns out that Stevie will be in Denver for a few days prior to the Red Rocks show, and will be spending three of those days rehearsing at a particular historic opera house downtown on 13th Street at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts.

My friend will be her dressing room caterer - and is offering me the rare opportunity to make Stevie a mix CD which she will leave in the dressing room. I've wanted to make Stevie a CD for two decades - this is going to be difficult! She's going to see if she can get me in the opera house during one of the rehearsal days, but it's not very likely since she could lose her job over it if anyone from Stevie's camp complained that I was there.

Oh wow... how awesome and incredible is that?! :blob2: I'm so happy for you, Matthew! I would have such a hard time and would be racking my brain like crazy trying to decide what to put on a CD for Stevie. You have to let us know what you finally decide to put on there! :) Good luck getting in to see her too... I'll keep my fingers crossed that it works out!

Right now I have no idea what I'll use. I just found out last night and haven'thad much time to sit and look at music, but it's probably going to be hard. I want to keep it to 11-13 songs; that's about all I've decided. When I'm done I'll put the tracklist up here.

I wonder if it will actually get listened to. I'm kind of freaking out about the possibility. Of course, it could get left there and thrown away by the cleaning crew.

Thats Great! Funny, I've been doing catering since the 80's but never had the opportunity to do any for Stevie...Anyways, please post any news on the rehearsals.

It's a mix CD. Of songs from the radio and already-released music - I'm not giving her a demo tape.

I think it's pretty cool that Karma wants to do this. Hell, I'd probably do the same thing if I had the same offer from a friend.

Good luck Karma! Give her a great mix CD!

It will have cover art, a note inside with a picture of me and a tracklist on the back. And a post-it on the front saying "MIX TAPE FOR STEVIE NICKS".

and why are you making her a mix tape .. if you don't mind me asking?

I love music. It is the number one influence on my life, my thoughts, my decision making. It is the soundtrack to everything I do, think or say. Haven't you ever made mix tapes for friends to share songs that you love? If I knew Stevie personally, I would have probably made her dozens of mix tapes/CDs over the years, just like I do for my friends. Oftentimes I'll hear a song and wonder if Stevie would like the voice, the lyrics, the instrumentation or the production. So, really this is an opportunity to just make a collection of songs that showcase not only my favorites but also artists, voices and producers that she's maybe not been exposed to. Assuming she even hears it, which is about a 50/50 chance, I would totally expect some songs to be disliked, skipped, and some to be loved just like any mix CD. Maybe she'll walk to it on her treadmill.

Stevie talks about music a lot - I think she is like any other lover of music in that respect, and really......who wouldn't want to make a mix CD for their favorite artist of all time? Honestly, I think it would be weird to pass on the opportunity.

Lastly, I feel a mix CD is far less obsessed-fan-weird than a letter. Music is universal - that's why Stevie fills iPods with her favorite songs and gives them to wounded soldiers at Walter Reed. I could consider that I guess, but I'm not buying Stevie an iPod.

Even if this happens it will be worth it:

Stevie: (Stevie, in her dressing room, holds up a cd in a carefully decorated cover) Where did this come from?
Karen: (Perturbed) How did THAT get in here? Destroy it. I'm sure it contains a computer virus. Don't worry, anyone associated with this venue who aided in getting that CD in here will be fired. I'll see to it personally.
Stevie: Yes, please. I can always count on you.
(Stevie takes a platform boots from her trunk and smashes the cd, case and all, on the dressing room's cement floor.)

1. The Nightmare
2. Rooms on Fire
3. Bella Donna
4. Kind of Woman
5. Sable on Blond
6. Imperial Hotel
7. Juliet
8. Street Angel
9. No Spoken Word
10. Alice

Yes and yes. Some people are just born haters.

That being said, Karma should totally mess with her mind. Fill up the CD with multiple songs by Don Henley, Joe Walsh, Lindsey, Mick Fleetwood's Zoo, Rick Vito (yes, I'm going there) and Tom Petty (yes, I'm going there again). If there is any space left, tack on a song or two from Jana Anderson.

Of course I kid... but am I bad person for secretly enjoying this form of mental torture?

what's with this hater * bull sh!t ... no is is a hater ,,, were just not delusional ( someone had to say it ) . or live in world completely consumed by stevie(neither opinion is directed at anyone!) ... some of us just enjoy the music .

and considering that years ago some obsessed fan from France flew here , when her mother was in the hospital , he got in to the Operating Room and to her dressed in scrubs , , she gets freaked by that kind of "" someones been in here stuff "" She starts finding stuff in her Dressing room she's going freak and think that one of the stalkers are back

* when did it become the norm to LABEL someone a HATER just because they think differently than you?

Leaving a CD is not stalking. And i think at this point,Stevie has a fairly good idea that she has ALOT of fans who love her,so something as simple as a CD would not get her up in arms. And if you don't want to be labeled a hater,THINK BEFORE YOU TYPE! You may not have meant it to come across the way it did,but it sure as hell dripped with jealousy and disdain. IF you are so worried about the status of YOUR passes, try sending out positive energy as opposed to negative,as it always comes back twofold :)

Just to clarify -

My friend will not be sneaking around covertly placing a CD in Stevie's room. She will be the assigned attendant - it's her job to do the shopping and to set up the room and make sure everything Stevie wants is in there. If something is needed, she'll be the one taking care of it for all three days of the rehearsal.

She'll have the opportunity to talk to Stevie, and of course she's going to try to hand deliver the CD if at all possible. She works with rock stars and is very sensitive to their privacy and security needs.

If Stevie gets my CD - great - and if not, no big deal - but Olive, I honestly think the concern that Stevie is going to feel stalked and put your friend's passes in jeopardy is a little bit overblown.

I will ask her to text message me the rehearsal set if she can for each day - or even better to get me a printed setlist. Right now I'm crossing my fingers that I might get the call to come down and watch for a bit - but I'm not getting my hopes up.

I would never want her job to be at risk, and I certainly know she would not make the offer for the CD if she were not confident that it would be OK. It was her idea, after all. Maybe I shouldn't have said anything about it here, but I was excited!

I think this is an awesome opportunity and Stevie will very likely get to listen to it. As described in the post above by KarmaContestant I think this makes pretty good sense.

It's not like it's going to be this weirdo CD sitting looking suspicious in Stevie's dressing room. His friend is the organizer of the artists dressing rooms and it will be on in the background while she's getting ready, no biggie.

If it was me, the thrill of knowing she was listening to something I put together would be a pretty cool thought. And I think that's all he's saying. Right?

Yeah, it may have been best if you hadn't mentioned it here, especially if your friend is as sensitive to artists privacy and security as you say. Now a whole bunch of people know the precise address of where she's rehearsing and the general time frame. But, too late now. Another idea to possibly help get your CD accepted and maybe listened to would be if you made a donation to her iPod for soldiers thing. You could include a note saying she could perhaps add the songs on your CD to the iPods she makes?

It's a good question. The motivation for this is really hard to understand, other than a yearning to personally "connect" with Stevie.

Stevie has plenty of influences from friends and musicians (people she knows) in which she is exposed to music. It's dicey presumption to think she will appreciate the influences of an unsolicited CD compilation from an unknown person. It seems very egotistical.

Just my opinion.

However, whatever rocks (a little) your boat. Good luck!

I would never want her job to be at risk, and I certainly know she would not make the offer for the CD if she were not confident that it would be OK. It was her idea, after all. Maybe I shouldn't have said anything about it here, but I was excited!

my two cents: whether she listens to it or not, I think Stevie would probably accept it as she would any other gift from a fan.

Good Luck!

Geez, get over it!

Some would say all of our presence on this message board is "a tad creepy", lol. I think a mod should close this thread.

Good luck karma, go for it!

 Good point!!! Go for it, I think having had the chance I would want to do the same thing!! You nay sayers are everywhere!! :]

In that other thread, like 4 of you said you had passes or knew people who were at the rehearsal, but now we've heard nothing.
