Hi Everyone, Kevin here. Even though there are widely varying opinions here about all things Mac related, we all share a common musical interest. Anyway, I was just curious as to what your other musical loves are. I'm putting down my top 15 non-Mac musicians/bands (in no particular order). I'd love to see yours too. Thanks :)

3. Counting Crows
5. Del Amitri / Justin Currie
13. Aimee Mann
GREAT choices! Nice to see the Crows getting some love, and it's especially unusual to see Aimee in cluded in a list. I met Adam, Immy and Dan from the Crows after a gig once, had a great long chat wherein Adam critiqued my music collection, shared my love for Linda Ronstadt and signed my t-shirt. Oh, and a fellow Del Amitri fan - yes!
My list is as follows, with the first few in order and then it became impossible to place order on the list:
Counting Crows (Adam's lyrics get me almost every time)
Emmylou Harris
Kylie Minogue
Bonnie Raitt
Alison Krauss (and Union Station)
Melissa Etheridge
Carpenters (Karen may be the best female singer ever but it's a tough call)
Ryan Adams
Bruce Springsteen
Rosanne Cash
Jackson Browne (I think his first album may well be the best debut album ever)
James Taylor
(If Ihad to choose I think Jackson is marginally better than James but I seem to get shouted down every time)
Judee Sill
JD Souther
Aimee Mann (and Til Tuesday)
Sugarland
Sheryl Crow
The Go-Go's / Belinda Carlisle
Bruce Hornsby (and the Range)
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
Suzanne Vega
Dusty Springfield
Alison Moyet
Linda Ronstadt
Girls Aloud
Dolly Parton
Joni Mitchell
Neil Young
Shelby Lynne
Natalie Merchant / 10 o00 Maniacs
Dixie Chicks
Nickel Creek / Sara Watkins
John Hiatt
Roxette
Kate Bush
Natalie Imbruglia (Also top of my Ultimate Fantasy Dream Woman list)
Deacon Blue
Beverley Knight
Kate Rusby
Cranberries
... and many more that I'm sure I'm forgetting right now and will add in subsequent posts!

I will save some of you guys from scrolling forever .And the Ledges bandwidth at the same time.So I wont list artists. It's got to be old.I love oldies rock, old country,Old R&B.classical,Jazz.I started to loose interest in new music in the late 1980's around when FM's Tango Album came out.Probabley at that time was the heyday of rap, hiphop music was starting to spoil the mainstream charts like now .as I glance at some of your guys lists.I see names of artist that I enjoy and some I cant stand.I guess my age is showing again.
P.S. I do like some new artists.but now many.

So as well as comic book cheese it seems we have several other artists in common as well then Brandon. Good call on Ryan. I'm a big fan! I do wish he wasnt quite so prolific though. He'll release anything and not only is it tough to keep up with all his side projects, some of them (like his sci-fi metal band) kind of suck. That said, some of the Whiskeytown stuff and pretty much everything from Gold - Easy Tiger is pretty flawless (other than Rock N Roll). I don't have Cardinalogy yet - how is it?
Big fan of Annie here too, especially her last 2 albums. I just wish she'd do some live gigs once in a while!

I don't have Cardinology. I only have Gold, Rock-n-Roll, Easy Tiger, and Heartbreaker. I think Easy Tiger is probably my fave. ;)
Gold is a masterpiece. 17 tracks (including Rosalie Come and Go) and there's not one I skip or can imagine the album without. There's a vinyl special edition that came out a year or so ago with extra tracks. It will be mine. Oh yes, it will be mine...
Easy Tiger is excellent. He has a new album out, Ashes and Fire, on October 10th. Apparently it's not some random metal side project and is the proper follow-up to Easy Tiger.
As for Heartbreaker... next time you listen to To Be Young, Is To Be Sad, Is To Be High... try singing the first lines of Subterranean Homesick Blues over it. It fits perfectly - like the an entirely audio version of Dark Side of the Moon/Wizard Of Oz. Yes, it was an accident that I found this out and yes, I was rather drunk at the time and accidentaly sung the wrong song!
I'll just list the 15 though there are more. In no particular order:
1. Maroon 5
2. Heart
3. Van Halen/Chickenfoot/Sammy Hagar (virtually all the same, right?)
4. U2
5. Hall & Oates
6. Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band
7. Kelly Clarkson (the Pop stuff)

13. Sheryl Crow
A big yes to all of these! I really like both era's of Heart, 70s rock and 80s cheese. I love all of Kelly Clarkson's stuff too - everything from Breakaway onwards has been great. Have you heard her version of Walkin' After Midnight? It's awesome. I can't wait for her new album.
Sheryl has long been one of my favourites. As much as I like 100 Miles From Memphis though, she's never beaten the great trilogy of her first 3 albums - the second 2 especially. I think Detours is the one I play the least.

I think that Love Is Hell is my all time favorite Ryan record, but honestly, everything he touches is gold.
I do like Love Is Hell (especially Hotel Chelsea Nights) but it's so unremittingly bleak, hence the title I suppose, that I really struggle to listen to the entire album at once and instead will listen to a few songs at once.
Demolition is pretty great too - especially Nuclear and Desire. I also ally like Jacksonville City Nights.
I'm not sure about everything though. His sci-fi-metal concept album and his faux punk rock band (We Are F**k You) are a bit strange. Then again, I kind of just grin and wonder what on earth he'll do next!
Have you seen him live? Sadly I haven't had the chance but I know he used to sometimes storm off stage if he was in a bad mood and you never knew what he would play! I suppose it's a bit like Neil Young with Tonight's The Night in that respect. I was GUTTED that by the time I heard about his recent solo acoustic tour it had sold out. Damn.
Danio - you'll be getting Ashes and Fire then??

No guilt about liking Garbage! Milk is a fantastic album and their later stuff is usually good too.
I'm actually listening to Joni's Hejira right now, an underrated album in her catalogue I think. I love the artwork too. I've had it framed in my bathroom at times. I have 3 record frames and I swap what's in them. Right now it's Rumours, Jackson Browne (first album) and Gram Parsons' GP.
Dani - have you heard Jose Gonzalez' cover of Kylie Minogue's Hand On Your Heart? It's SO random. It's from her very early (1989) cheesy pop period... check out the original and then listen to his cover. In fact, I may provide it for you....

Makes 2 of us. That whole 68-73 Laurel Canyon scene is likely my favourite musical era.
Someone else who loves Sheby - how unusual yet fantastic! Do you have a favourite album? I haven't got Tears, Lies and Alibis yet - how is it?
I've said how much Ilove the Carpenters earlier in the thread. I can never pick a favourite album, although A Kind Of Hush and Passage suffer from weak material, yet they are of course impeccably produced and sung. Do you have Karen's solo album?
In fact, a question for all Ledgies... does anyone have Karen Carpenter's eponymous solo album (recorded 1980 but not released until 1996) apart from me?!

Interesting dichotomy. Although, I just saw a couple of YouTube clips of Natalie Cole singing "Whipping Post" a month or so ago with the Bros and it kicked butt. I can mentally hear Judy Garland rippin' up on "Midnight Rider" or something...but, Barbra? Uh-uh...kind gives me the "jeebies" just thinking about it.
Being from Georgia, I think you're mandatorily obligated to mention the Allman Bros Band as a favorite or be forceably removed from the state.

Elvis Presley (pre-Army)
Just pre-Army? You're cheating
yourself out of some great music.
You've got to try:
Elvis Is Back (Legacy Edition 2011)
Back from the Army and in great voice.
Some consider this to be his best work.
From Elvis In Memphis (Legacy Edition 2009)
To me his best studio album. Plus it contains
Back In Memphis, the follow up. No one
had more soul in 1969. This album begs to be
listened to.
And if you like live recordings try:
Elvis On Stage (Legacy Edition 2010)
He's in top form on this release.

I have sooo many but i will shorten the list down
1) Courtney Love/Hole. Their music is my life and has been for years. I saw them live in 2010 and i was in awe. I know Courtney gets a lot of stick but i bloody love her.
2) Pink. Amazing.
3) Taylor Swift
4)Rolling Stones
5)Liza Minnelli. Don't judge LOL.
6)Martina McBride. She writes beautiful songs. I used to listen to Happy Girl on repeat all the time when i was at my old college so now whenever i hear it a million and one memories flood back.
7)Patti Smith
8) Melissa Auf Der Maur.
9)Madonna. She was my childhood hero, i will always adore her.
10) Cher. The legend not Cher Lloyd :L
11)Joan Jett
12)Cyndi Lauper
13)Celine Dion
14) Whitney Houston
15)Blondie
16)Janis Joplin. Love her, i love listening to her when i am sad for some reason. If i have trouble sleeping i just put me and bobby mcgee on repeat.
17)Oasis
18)Eminem
19)Paloma Faith
It feels weird having a list without Fleetwood mac and Stevie Nicks on ahaha but ofcourse them (:

Besides the Mac and related stuff, some of my absolute musts:
The Beach Boys
The Beatles
Kate Bush
Townes Van Zandt
Paul Simon/S&G
AKUS
Big Star
The Band
Nickel Creek/ Chris Thile
Radiohead
Sam Cooke
ELO
and stealing this convenient listing from ChiliD the entire Byrds/Buffalo Springfield combined family tree (which includes, CSN, Neil Young, Flying Burrito Bros, Poco, Eagles, etc)
Except I haven't heard much Poco (just Pickin' Up the Pieces) yet or any of Chris Hillman or Richie Furay's solo work.
And I've been on a big George Gershwin kick for about 2 months now, so him too.

Hi! Well, I must say that The Wall is the least, or the last. The best songs there (for me) are Hey You, and Another Brick in the Wall Part I. And then Happiest Days and ABITW part II. Sometimes I prefer to listen them at the The Wall Live 1980 (Is There Anybody Out There).
The Final Cut sounds similar, but I prefer it more than The Wall...

Oh, I also think I left off my previous 2 posts:

Jay Ferguson
Randy California
T-Rex (and it's acoustic predecessor Tyrannisaurus Rex)

And, as luck would have it, tomorrow (Oct 11th) will be Paulette's 60th birthday!
Also, back in 1981, when my band was touring Canada, we had the incredibly fortunate pleasure of being Burton Cummings' opening act for one week during Klondike Days in Edmonton (basically the Edmonton verson of the Calgary Stampede, although Edmontonians call The Stampede, Calgary's verson of Klondike Days) anyway, I digress....Burton's guitarist back then was Jack Daniels who would later co-found Highway 101. When we weren't on stage, Jack & I (and a couple of other band members would spend a LOT of time hanging out in the Chateau LaCombe's bar (or the pizza place across the street). Unfortunately, one afternoon, Jack had a run in with a possessed elevator that ended up doing damage to his ankle...a few hours later, bolstered by pain killers and a few beers, he soldiered on, sitting on a swivel-seated bar stool on stage and still rockin' his Stratocaster (oh, yes, there were quite a few spinning guitar solos that night!). Later that night, I lost a Pepperocini eating contest to him...not that I remembered the next day, although, I must have...I haven't had the stomach to eat one since.

I met up with the band with Nikki Nelson first signed on at the local fair. The show was great .But missed Paulette. My uncle/aunt are friends with Nikki Nelson's family.Again what a small world.
I always say that Paulette is Stevie Nicks of country music. They look alike .They twirl ,same voice. They were or are in the band and also solo.and also almost the same age.

Well it is happening within the music industry, but i just hope the general public will also get it. I hope they'll keep their rock n'roll cause they are getting more and more electro and we've already heard that with bands like The xx or Metronomy :)
