Dave Stewart sent the following tweet:
shooting video with Stevie Nicks and Mike Campbell tomorrow for her new single Shane McClafferty from @WeaponsofME directing should be fun
Very exciting! Looks like they are getting behind this single on all formats. Who knows, maybe VH1 will rotate this one. I was kinda surprised they didn't play SL

After shooting and editing, the video should be ready for distribution to media outlets in two weeks. That's about a month and a half after the initial single release. Wow, yet another marketing stroke of genius!

As you say, why the Hell are they just doing the video now for a single that has already been released?? Ridiculous.

Who cares why or how long it is going to take? Were any of us honestly even expecting a video for this single? I know I wasn't! Just be grateful that we have something else from Stevie to look forward to.

I agree! I love this song, and a video will be great. I hope it's sold on iTunes!

Amen RockaLittle...shes 63 and we are getting another video...Can we just be happy...The truth is that the record company and Stevie and Dave could be smarter than all of us and they could keep a slow but steady approach to the cd and the tour and the promo and you might have Grammy nods due to this "slow burn" approach.. she IS NOT Britany or Lady Gaga or Beyonce or even Adele...she is a 63 year old legend that wont have the same record play that she did at 29yo when she was spinning and coked out of her mind...she is fricking amazing - she is a senior citizen who just graced us with an incredible cd and working her ass off to sell a million copies...god bless her!

What about all the videos they've already made? Why aren't any of those songs the new single?

Or why didn't they make a For What It;s Worth video back then? Because there seems to be not a pick of sense between Stevie, Dave and Warner Brothers put together! What are they doing???

Messing with our heads.
I'd forgotten all about the documentary anyway at this point.

I really don't think there's all that much marketing concern left for this album/single. I think they're just doing what they want to do. I'm glad we're getting a video at all. I didn't expect this album to be the second coming of Stevie Nicks anyway. I think the record company is going to put all their effort and support behind someone younger. Sad, but true.
Anyway, I adore Dave Stewart. And he said on Twitter last night that the documentary is "80% finished".

The A&R department of a record label usually chooses a single with input from the artist (though it's often happened that a label picks a song the artist doesn't want released as a single), and apparently WB decided they wanted to release "For What It's Worth" despite the fact that Stevie hadn't previously filmed a video for it.
Meanwhile, look at the bright side -- when the "FWIW" clip is completed, we will have gotten THREE videos from this album so far. When was the last time we got three videos from one of Stevie's albums? Never. And, to make it even sweeter, we still have more videos to look forward to. Total win-win.

I'm not that fussed about them taking forever to release a video. I mean, Stevie's never going to have a hit single again, this is a sad but true fact, so it's not like she needs a video to promote it. I'm just happy we're still getting videos from her! It's like she's making it as a gift for the fans, and if it helps shift a few copies of the album / single, then that's great, but, I don't imagine they're making the video to use it to really push promo for the single to rocket it up the charts.

First of all, I don't believe that at all. I'm sure that Secret Love was Stevie's choice. There is no way in hell anyone except Stevie would of picked that song to be first. Dave didn't consider it a favorite. Neither did the rolling stone critic. Few people after listening to that album would consider it to be the standout track from it.
For What It's Worth got chosen because of the reviews, which cited it as Landslidesque. I will say the edited version is better than what's on the album and I definitely want to replace the album version with it. I have always liked the song, but it fealt misplaced on album or not sequenced right.

I'm not so sure it was solely Stevie who wanted Secret Love. They probably thought it would be a good single because it would give her and the media something to talk about - both because it was an old vault song that could have been on FM or Rumours, and also because of the whole 'Secret Love' mystery... I think that's why it was the first single.. not because of the quality of the song.

Yay for another video!
As for "Secret Love" well we know that Glen Ballard considered it a gem when he heard it, so at least one of her producers thought it was a great song. Frankly I think it is too. It's the right length, it's concise, it's a good song, it's well sung....and it made #20 on AC, roughly matching the performance of two of the singles off Trouble In Shangri-La from 10 years earlier.
Someone mentioned on one of the threads that with the release of "For What It's Worth" it seems like maybe Stevie's album was sequenced to put the singles at the front end (they were speculating that "In Your Dreams" would be single #3). It's an interesting idea. I think many of the other songs on the album are better songs but these first three songs do seem to present themselves well as single choices.

You don't believe what? That the A&R department of a record company chooses the single?
Just to cite for you one example of the decision making process, and what it involves: Madonna wanted "Impressive Instant" as the fourth single from her album 'Music.' Warner Bros wanted "Amazing." Madonna refused to promote "Amazing" or film a concept video for it, so WB decided they would release the single without her involvement and would issue a live video. Madonna then dropped the song from her setlist to prevent it from being filmed, and WB ultimately abandoned their plans.
MADONNA doesn't even get final say in the single choices from her albums, without manipulating the situation to her advantage. So, no offense, but what makes you think Stevie does?
In regards to "Secret Love," I think it's a no-brainer why the record company would favor it as a single. It's just slightly over 3 minutes long, it's upbeat & catchy, it appeals to the Adult Contemporary format, and it has a backstory that connects with Stevie's & Fleetwood Mac's heyday. That kind of song is beyond easy to promote.

I love the Madonna back story. I take it you work in the industry?
Regarding Secret Love, I think it's the obvious first single choice on the album...all the way down to the finely tuned production.

I wonder if that's one of the reasons Madonna dropped Warners ass?

I'm glad Mike Campbell will be in the video :) It's sweet that he's been doing all the performances with her so far.
