Headed out to LA to visit a friend who scored us free tickets to see Dolly Parton (!!!) at the Hollywood Bowl. The concert was so great...here's the setlist:

Catch her on tour if you can. You won't regret it.

As a big country music fan I of course love Dolly! The thing that bugs me though is that she is so easily dismissed as a songwriter because of all the glitz, make-up and boobs that go along with her! When I try to tell people how genuinely, truly talented she is they often scoff andmockingly sing 9 to 5 (which is of course great). Then I play them anything from her trilogy of Bluegrass albums between 99-2202 and they shut the Hell up! That's my favourite stuff from her but she's just genuinely fantastic.

Jolene, The Bargain Store, Marry Me, Coat Of Many Colours, Applejack, Little Sparrow... I could go on and on and on... Seeing her live is such an experience.

One thing though, is this setlist correct? I clicked on the video for River Deep Mountain High and I got somthing awful (not tat song) and there's nothing on youtube for Dolly performing that either. I'd love to see/hear her take that song on!

She definitely took it on. After an absolutely stunning a capella version of Little Sparrow, she wanted to pep it up and launched right into River Deep. Before the last verse she introduced the band and then went right back into her Tina Turner shimmy and blew the ending out of the water. It was the biggest surprise of the night. Also, "He Will Take You Higher" is a take on Sly Stone's "I Wanna Take You Higher" from her new movie with Queen Latifah. It'll be out in January I guess.

I HAVE to hear this!! I'm a Tina fan and she was awesome live too. How can I see/hear it?? I haven't managed to get tickets for the tour this time.

Hopefully something pops up on youtube. There were a lot of people recording last night.

I love Dolly.I seen her live back in 1977 with my mom at the Oakdale here in town. this was way before she hit the movie screen. She was country when country wasn't cool.Ops .a Barbara Mandrill song. Not like todays country tunes.Have a great time at the show.
