Yes, but when artists do ask fans what the next single should be, that single usually turns out the be the worst selling single of the bunch.

Maybe so. However, I don't expect Stevie to have a hit single no matter what song they choose. I just don't think it's realistic to expect anyone over 50 (even 40) to have a Top 10 hit.

she probably will do Secret Love would be nice to do For What It's worth or Annabell Lee would be nice I think. She needs to go country I think to sell records she is so ready to do country. But please no landslide for a while. Will be watching hope she will do letterman too when she comes to the New York Area.

I'm betting it's FWIW, with a slim-to-none chance of "Soldier's Angel" (I don't see her doing it without Lindsey).
"Wide Sargasso Sea" would be my choice, though - it rocks & is interesting. Given enough time, "Moonlight" would also be interesting. I'd also love "New Orleans" or YMBTO just because she sounds great on them, but of course she won't do any of these on Leno.
Surely she'll do FWIW, wear black, and go wild with her hands but not her feet. Stevie's risk-taking days went out with the coke.

As much as I hate to agree about FWIW I have to. I haven't heard it played on the radio stations here in Virginia yet, Secret Love has though and is played a lot.

The Adult Contemporary charts...modest hit really.

It's just a little unfair to Stevie to say "Secret Love" was such a failure and a bomb when it really wasn't. It was quite successful, even though a lot of fans weren't thrilled that it was the lead single.

The difference between the Red Rocks & Shake the Cage concert specials is dramatic, considering how close they are on the calendar.
As for why she stopped...Presumably it started with Epstein-Barr, & the Klonopin/weight gain couldn't have helped. Once she sobered up, I'm sure the risks of falling down or into the audience became clearer. She had a hip problem on the SYW Tour & who knows what other problems she has had as she has aged (we know she says her back acts up from the Edgewalk). Additionally, she can move faster on the Frankenboks (I almost fell over when she started her "Stand Back" spin at an early SYW show, she had not moved that fast since RAL), but fans raised a stink that she was not in the boots.

I just read that there is to be a new movie about Edgar Allan Poe.

http://popwatch.ew.com/2011/07/22/john-cusack-raven-comic-con/?hpt=hp_t2

Director John McTeigue and the stars of The Raven, John Cusack, Alice Eve, and Luke Evans, debuted the film’s first trailer for the fans of Hall H today. Cusack plays Edgar Allan Poe in a fictionalized account of the author’s last five days alive, in which he must help track down a serial killer inspired by Poe’s writings. “He was a bit of a rock star in his day,” Cusack said of the charismatic writer. “He definitely was the godfather of goth.”

The dark and moody trailer definitely brought the goth, including plenty of dead and mutilated bodies, and — of course — screeching ravens. “It’s an art movie and a popcorn movie all at once,” Cusack said during the panel (moderated by EW’s Anthony Breznican).

And for all you Poe fans, Cusack had no problem answering which works by the author are his top five: the short story “Hop-Frog,” the poem “The Raven,” “The Cask of Amontillado,” “The Tell-Tale Heart,” and “The Pit and the Pendulum.”

The Raven will be in theaters March 9.

-----------
There's lots written about Poe--obviously this movie is not based on historical records about the man, but if you are interested in Poe, you might find this interesting:

http://www.eapoe.org/papers/misc1851/18570300.htm

including this:

"Not long before his death he was cruelly beaten, blow upon blow, by a ruffian who knew of no better mode of avenging supposed injuries. It is well known that a brain fever followed — that he left New York precipitately — that he reached Baltimore, the city of his nativity, and there died on the fourth of October, 1849."

The planet of reality and facts.

Since when is a Top 20 charting single not considered remotely successful?

What planet do you live on? ;)

Earth. The same planet where, for an artist at the stage of Stevie's career, a top 20 AC hit is a *hit*.

This is just where she's at now. She stopped having Top 40 hits back in 1989, and having hits (as a solo artist) on the Hot 100 back in the mid-1990s. Now her hits are on AC and that's where they're going to be. If "Secret Love" had failed to make the AC chart then yeah I'd say it flopped, but it did as well as "Everyday" and "Sorcerer" did.

According to who? I heard it many, many times myself.

It was all over New York AC radio, and that's one of the largest markets in the country.

I guess the definition of "success" is subjective. If just making a showing on the AC chart signifies success to you, then it was a success (to you).

Since the definition of an album single is a song used to promote an artist's album in order to generate album sales, a successful single successfully generates album sales. Stevie's CD did quite well the first few weeks then tanked. Most people knew it would do well at first because she has a relatively large following. For whatever reason, "Secret Love" was not been played on rotation in most U.S. radio markets. The video was not even aired on VH1.

I doubt most people who were exposed to "Everyday" and "Sorcerer" have not been exposed to "Secret Love" on the televison or radio. I wonder how many Ledgies heard/saw "Everyday," "Sorcerer" or one of the other TISL recorded tracks on TV or radio? Now how many have people heard the recorded "Secret Love" single or others on IYD played on the radio or video channels?

Honestly, I didn't even expect Secret Love to chart anywhere so the fact that it appeared anywhere was a nice surprise. I wouldn't consider it a hit either, but the fact that it charted and remain on the chart for an extended period of time, makes it somewhat successful. I don't think we'll see a repeat performance with FWIW because it's not a good second single choice at all.

I don't think "Secret Love" was a hit at all, but I'm baffled that it could chart even that high when I never once heard it (or any mention of the album) on the radio. I get that the nature of the market/chart dynamic has changed, but still.

SL had a great spring vibe, ver catchy. i think our Stevie just hit the wall of age-ism, not to mention the dismal WB promo campaign. really, shouldn' the video have been released simultaneously?? plus some funky club mixes?? trust you me, the gay clubs would have EATEN it up!!!

Very decent vocal, fine lyrics (the ooo-wee never bothered me, especially back when she could sing it higher), but mediocre production. So no argument.

I completely agree...waiting until almost the drop date of the album to release the video was not smart. I don't understand the reasoning (if indeed there was any) behind this decision. Especially these days, the more exposure, the better. And I also agree about the club mixes... just look at the success of the Planets club mix...#1 baby! This could easily happen again...the ten years since TISL have only reinforced Stevie's iconic status to a whole new generation of club kiddies!!

You're not crazy, a lot of people think that. Annabel Lee is one of my favorites... but I'm not sure about it being a single. It's got about as much of a chance as anything else on the album, I suppose. I think In Your Dreams DEFINITELY needs to be one.

I watch Jay Leno all the time. Each show has about a five minute musical performance at the end of each show. Most of the time the musical guest doesn't get sit down interview time. Leno usually comes up to them at the end of their performance shakes their hand perhaps mention their latest album and wrap the show.

Tonight Matt Leblanc and Freida Pinto are the two guests. Usually the first guest gets two segments; second guest gets one.

Hopefully, she will not have to edit her song since Leno is pretaped.

Just want to say...great voice, LOVE FWIW, but did Miss N's face look a bit on the "puffy" side? :confused:Hope all is ok with her.

She sounded and looked beautiful. She is going to rip it up on tour! Does anyone else think that they edited the best parts of the song. For me, I think the best part of the song is the verses!

Special thanks to you. Because of your posts I knew when to tune in. I didn't have to sit here bored and biting my nails. Was it just my tv or did she look fat in that outfit? I know she's not fat. I liked the cream colored platform boots that matched well with her hair. This was a good performance but I did like last nights version better.

That's how all his musical guests are, but at least he has all different types of musical guests on his show.

Yes I tape his show all the time.I alway like his format .The music guests are at the end.Or If he has time when if he has no second guest .he will interview them and come back to sing.

Yes the song was quick and short as I notice too.

I know that there's a lot of debate about her hand motions, but for some reason, I really like the little pose she does at the beginning of FWIW and the little bell ringing gesture. To me it's like the pose is saying "I'm back, and you are in for some of the ol' Stevie Magic"

No problem.I dont mind moderating as long I dont spoil it for others out west.I have to watch the replay to see up close to see what she was wearing.I was watching on a 13" tv monitor.Last night I made a mistake about she was wearing a black dress. But she was wearing black pants.Must be my eyes.

No album plug at the end, but he did plug the tour start date when he introduced her.

He mentioned the album when he introduced her, and had the CD on his desk. I'm kinda glad he didn't interview her - I can't stand him. She's better with David Letterman and Jimmy Fallon, who are both obviously huge fans.

Pretty much how he is with everybody. I figured he'd at least ask her about "Blue Denim" back in the day since that's what he always wears when he's out & about.

I'd like to see Stevie on Craig Ferguson's show. He listens. And maybe she'll thank him for being Scottish.

No, she did not look fat, but whenever she wears that kind of outfit & long hair it makes her look like she has a really short torso & no neck.
I liked the AGT performance better, too, but the Leno one was not bad.

Boy, could they have waited any longer to get her up there?
Hand gestures: the ones to start the song are fine...including the bell (love that bell).
The ones later--have got to go. They are idiotic. I'm sorry but that kind of fist shaking thing she does makes it look like this dude is trying to break down her door, not just walk in and save her life like a good little friend.
And, I LOVE her lyrics. Love them. But, these stupid hula moves totally distract me from them. She should absolutely know better. This isn't Say You Will which was a sub-par song, lyrically, and did well with a little audience dance-along. These are lovely, meaningful songs that, IMO (again), she's f-ing up with Richard Simmons calesthenics.
OK-I'm done. Perhaps I need a bit more coffee this morning;-)

Looked out the window
We watched the cars fly by
I look at you and I start to cry
What you did was you saved my life

Why is she leaving out this verse? It's the best part of the song IMO. Is it just a time issue? Same thing for AGT.

Thanks! But I did find it on another site. One in which the writer apparently wants only a stagnent Stevie. I hate this limited mindset:

It’s too bad Stevie Nicks didn’t pick out a classic Fleetwood Mac track to perform on Jay Leno’s show last night (July 28). Let’s face it, who really wants to hear a song from her recently released solo album, In Your Dreams? Wouldn’t we rather revel in the glossy coke-fueled excesses of “Dreams” or “Sara”? Yes, of course we would, but instead we have to make do with the pallid “For What It’s Worth,” which is such a transparent attempt to recreate past glories that Lindsey Buckingham must have been thiknig about calling his lawyer. Nicks is still in great voice, which is something at least—you just might want to look away as she tries to act out the actions she sings about in the song with her hands. [via The Audio Perv]

I don't get the "transparent attempt to recreate past glories." Most "legendary" artists usually are treated with more respect, and are more accepting of their new work. And all the pandering to an ancient past is really getting tired, especially phrases like "coke-fueled excesses." By the way, Stevie is looking and sounding great. She appears more healthy and much thinner than she has in years past.

Very good performance from Stevie on Leno, I thought. She looked really happy and into the song. And I think I must be having a wobbly day, but when I think back over some of the times in her life, I just think it's great that this is where she is right now. She inspires me.

Stevie Nicks turned up on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno last night to perform a lovely rendition of "For What It's Worth," a selection from the Fleetwood Mac singer's latest solo album In Your Dreams. "I got to sing, I got to dance, I got to be part of a great romance," she sings with a great big smile. Nicks does a lot of her classic witchy-woman moves, but the most endearing moment of this performance comes near the beginning, when you can see her strumming some air guitar along with the band before her vocals come in.

I really do love FWIW but I can't help but wish they had released "In Your Dreams" as the next single. That song rocks and could be a tremendous amount of fun live...with Stevie rocking out on tambo, of course. I'm not knocking FWIW, but I just feel "In Your Dreams" live would have made a much stronger impact on TV. Not sure about radio, though.

I liked her performance on Leno better than the other, but I have a problem being cut short. The song is already short edited and she doesn't get to repeat the sing and dance lines again on these performances. Still, this song and her performances come out as heartfealt. She is putting everything into it. She really is doing great this summer and she looks so damb happy.

It is nice in tone, but sorry, RS still stinks. Saying the best part of a singer's performance is before she opens her mouth is hardly what I want to read about Stevie. And what classic witchy woman moves are they talking about, miming knocks? Hardly the stuff of classic "Rhiannon" as far as I'm concerned.
