They could've used a more flattering headline. And um...her album dropped in May, not "earlier this month." Or maybe the writer knew that, and he literally meant she was "celebrating" her album earlier this month...
Stevie Nicks Credits Iconic Onstage Looks To Weight Gain
Lady Gaga may have cornered the meat dress market and Rihanna may have a patent on her whips and chains costumes but when it comes to creating an on-stage persona, these girls take a backseat to the original fashion forward performer -- Stevie Nicks.
“It was very conscious to have a look,” Nicks tells me. “I went out in 1973 with Fleetwood Mac and just went out and packed a suitcase with my street clothes. We stayed at very nice hotels and I immediately gained 10 lbs. I was horrified every single day trying to put together some kind of an acceptable outfit to wear on stage. So when I got home from that tour I met with a designer and said I need a uniform, I need something that is fantastic that I can wear. I need two skirts, two leotards, two pairs of fantastic boots, a little English riding jacket [and] a long black chiffon scarf. I need like the Donna Karen’s seven pieces. And she made it.”
Soon Nicks' style wasn't only making its appearance onstage but on the streets across the country -- fans and non-fans alike wanted a piece of her gothic Bohemian look.
“I loved seeing people dressed like me because I thought this is just like creating a song,” Nicks laughs. “Creating this outfit is like creating a song. Yesterday I spent all day at the very same designer designing 17 new outfits. I’m still, to this day, putting together really great little things. I’m single handedly bringing back the Victorian ball gown.”
Earlier this month Nicks celebrated her seventh solo album, "In Your Dreams," and is planning on a Fall tour. "In Your Dreams" has debuted at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 chart, selling 52,000 copies in its first week.
“When I write in my journal, as opposed to going back and reading what I wrote last night or a week ago, I tend to say better to just keep going than spend your time reading what you already wrote,” Nicks tells me. “I don’t want to be inspired by what I already wrote. I don’t want to rewrite "Edge Of Seventeen" and I also don’t listen to other music either especially when I’m getting ready to do a record. I don’t want to subconsciously take something from someone else. I want it to be totally from me. So I pretty much live in an instrumental world. If I’m listening to music when I’m not working I’m listening to instrumental music.”
And not looking back seems to be working for the singer -- according to the 63-year-old, she only gets better with age.
“I think this is really my best album and I say that as humbly as possible," Nicks says. "But I believe that."

I love the idea of "17 new outfits". Let's hope she actually wears them! :blob2:

I don't know if you've singhandedly brought something back... if you're the only one wearing it.

Don't be ridiculous. She makes Sharon & Lori wear them, too. ;)

OK...17 new outfits...really, Stevie? I will be shocked if we see ONE new item, let alone outfit, on this upcoming tour. She's full of it.

Yea, she may have designed 17 new outfits on paper, but they certainly all won't see the light of day.

I'm thinking 17 real outfits, all the same design. 2003 all over again, I fear.

exactly. she'll cart them around with her from city to city but you know, every night it's gonna be that same black dress that we've all seen a gazillion times.

Stevie likes to exaggerate, "17" means she has ONE new scarf, one new shawl, and some new boots.

17 identical, disposable outfits, one for each show of the tour. Much easier than cleaning.

^ Agreed. Remember the pre-Vegas hype in '05? Digging through her clothes trunks & wearing fabulous ensembles?
And she didn't say STAGE outfits. Maybe she's designing her workout clothes so they dont' ride up.

HA! There goes my diet coke.

She hasn't even worn 17 new outfits in the last 10 years so I find this very hard to believe. Get real sister! You're a slave to the uniform, I mean unicorn.

I am sure of the 17.....there aren't going to be 17 different styles. She probably will have 3-4 styles, but in different colors to take on the road. Which is cool.... she is one of the few that can pull it off..... I think she sounds excited about this tour.... I am wishing for some revisits of old songs, maybe some cool screen backgrounds.... kind of like what she used for the Heart and Soul tour............. maybe start out the concert with a 2-3 min video montage of her career....kind of what Cher does. She has had some awesome looks and songs, so it is about time she do that. (Although, it will probably make me cry....lol, because when she sang Sara in 2004 and then at the end of the song....they switched the screens to the 1979 concert footage of her singing Sara.... well, let's just say.... "my eye allergies are acting up..I'm not crying, why do you ask?" LOL

Wasn't that during Unleashed? I don't think she did Sara on SYW. I like your idea though!

There she goes again....that memory thing!
According to past interviews and even Mick's account in his book they did not stay in nice hotels. Christine mentions how they traveled from venue to venue in rented station wagons and sleeping on boxes and pianos. As for food, they were close to starving according to Stevie's accounts when they were on the road.
Lets see....17 new outfits? But the question is, will they all be 17 different new outfits?

I don't know about the whole tour, but they did "Sara" during the Madison WI Say You Will tour show.

She didn't do it on the first leg of the SYW Tour.....2003, but on the 2nd time around in 2004 during the 2nd leg of the LOOONNNG tour..... she did Sara and wore this red chiffony thing that was not flattering....made her look like a big red cloud.... But, on the first leg she was very subtle, wore that little black beaded jacket with pearl buttons.......I am assuming because Lindsey wanted her to not be sooo flashy, but on the 2nd leg...after a year of touring.... she came out with some of the old FLASHY shawls, and had her bangs back..... The 2nd leg of SYW was much better than the first. I wish they would have filmed that part of the tour...instead of the Live in Boston.

I find it hard to believe she gained weight on the Fleetwood Mac tour. she was as skinny as a rail. For the first leg of the tour she wore blue jeans. I think when Rhiannon started to take off she wanted to capture the spirit of the song and create a witchy look. It worked and took off.

Plus I'm sure all of the coke did not contribute to any weight gain, it has the oppisite effect.

Exactly. She blames Klonopin for her weight gain, when it was kicking coke that made her balloon. Bye bye cocaine-tabolism.
If I see one of these "17 new looks", I will eat my hat.

Lol...that would be funny. Actually, I would like for her to kind of dress during the way she did for the Street Angel tour. I know everyone says she didn't look her best, etc, etc, etc...... But, this was the first tour before the DANCE that I noticed Stevie sounding better live...and giving a darn good show. I liked the tour, not the album much, but the 1994 concert was a good one. I loved the long dresses she wore during this tour as well, and the layers of shawls.... There were some cool outfits during this tour that I would like to see come back.....

^ Thank you for the UTube video!! What a different style from what I'm used to seeing as her uniform.
Well, I don't care if the outfits for this tour are new or old, I just want to see Stevie live once before she decides to retire!!

Great clip. You know, I don't think she looked as terrible during the SA tour as she thought she did. I think she looked pretty great.
That being said, I do love the knee length skirts she's wearing now as opposed to the longer skirts. Knee length is more flattering on the vertically challenged, plus she still has great legs. :)

I much prefer light wispy flowing handkerchief chiffon skirts when she's up on stage that make for great stagewear to me over any of those stiff ruffled fabrics she's worn in recent years. While long ball gowns may look ok in some pictures, I don't think they'd make for good stagewear.

The thing is, she is in her 60's. I think her tastes have changed drastically since the mid-80's. I really didn't care for the OSOTM/Behind the Mask look. And it's been a bit of a struggle since then. I really, really hate the frankenboots. That was just the worse. I would love to see her wear a wedge heeled boot. But I think she just wants to look age appropriate now.

I always love her looks.......BUT, GOOD point that you made.... we always forget that Stevie is 63, but our girl does have great legs for a 63 year old. It's so easy to forget her age....especially when you see her live, all over the stage, dancing, singing, and just looking great.
