Although I absolutely cannot stand the music on this album, I do find myself occasionally reading the lyrics as poetry.

I'm sure part of it is the fact that I was a rep for WEA (Warner Elektra Atlantic) when the record came out and I gave away a buttload of promos and did a hell of a lot of displays in record stores around town in support of the record. Good times. :)

What's your fav song from OSOTM?
Since confession does the heart good, I'll confess that even though I have been a long long time Stevie fan, I never bought this album. :o:o Guess I am going to have to expand my horizons!
For me it's always been Bella Donna!

Yes Belladonna is BEAUTIFUL!!! Let's see, I love Long Way To Go and Alice. On the cd, prob Alice is my favorite. It's so dreamy and meandering.......but i adore Doing the Best I Can also. :) Just give it a try! My sister adores the cd too. Just accept it for what it is, not what it isn't.

This is my favorite song from the album. I would love to see her rework this song, modernize it a little, and sing it live. I think she could perform the hell out of this song.

I agree 100%. Anyone who likes the moody, atmospheric Stevie songs should like this. Completely underrated. And sad.

I love TOSOTM. However, I don't even own I Still Miss Someone anymore. That, and The Nightmare are literally the two tracks I cannot stand of hers.
I think Fire Burning is very underrated. Lyrically, it's fantastic and it has a good beat to sway to. The whole album is very 'synth-magical'. It can put you in a good mood or put you to sleep. That's why I like this album...I can use to to wake up to, or use it to fall asleep.

I'm with Brandon - sorry! Luckily the worst, worst, worst song on it is the final track so I can just either stop the album or put it back to track 1 before listening to her horribly misjudged, ridiculously synthy version of I Still Miss Someone. I think that would have to be the worst song she's ever recorded. It's especially annoying cause Stevie can sing country but that arrngement...ughhh!
I really like most of the restof the album though and have no skipping issues with any other track. I liked seeing somelove for Fire Burning earlier in this thread too!

I do like some of the songs on TOSOTM, but overall I find the album to be a downer. I can see how others find it magical - Stevie herself called it her magic album - but for me the lack of feeling in some of the vocals has a pretty dreary effect. The synth and slow pace only add to this.
I do like some songs that most everybody hates, including "Fire Burning", "Cry Wolf", and "Ghosts" (except for that terrible bridge). LWTG, and "Juliet" are just okay, and I think Stevie tries really hard on IMS. (LWTG has a lot of potential live.) My favorites are DTBTIC, ROF, and OML (which deserves a better title).
And BTW, while I like the song ROF, I remain the only Ledgie who absolutely hates the video. Hates.

This has been the only album in Stevie's career that I didn't know was being produced since I became a fan(Rumours era). Last I had known in 1988 was that FM was touring outside of America and the next thing you know it is May of 1989 and my friend Nancy asks me if I heard the new song by Stevie Nicks. I insisted there was no new song and she insisted there was. We diehards always know we are right because I figured she must have heard an obscure album track and figured it was something new. Anyhoo, she kept insisting so that promted me to call the local radio station and ask. The DJ confirmed what Nancy said. It was around 8PM when I made this call and the DJ said he was gonna play the song next at 10PM.
I'll never forget it. It was a full moon on a clear night in May of 1989 and as I looked out the window at the moon I heard for the very first time, Rooms On Fire.
To this day this song remains my favorite track on the record. I love every song on this album except TKOL which I can listen to now but for at least 20 years was skipable.

True, and I readily acknowledge that this song is hugely popular here on The Ledge (along with everything else I dislike). But I know I'm not alone either; I have never seen such a mass exodus to the restrooms as in 1989 when the opening chords of this song started playing at Alpine Valley. People fled, it was like Attack of the Blob.

In my basement, I'm still working on my laser-equipped drone, that when operating at prime functionality will seek out the source of any audio device playing a song from TOSOTM and destroy it; whether it be CD, cassette, LP, mp3, m4a, wav, FLAC whatever.
Just remember that the next time you're listening to it...it might do you well to keep looking up &/or behind you.
:eek::shocked:
Don't think I'm kidding. If you're hearing those horns on "Whole Lotta Trouble" and there's some sort of odd out of pitch buzz, you'd better yank out the ear-buds, drop the iPod and run, run, run!

ChiliD just reminded me, Whole Lotta Trouble was a song I enjoyed for many years and now I skip it everytime.
Back in 1991 when I was lip syncing dressed as Stevie onstage in a gay club I was performing this song. The Queen who was running this show was jealous of me and yanked the needle off the record when she got sick of hearing Stevie sing over and over at the end of the song, "whole lotta trouble for you."Anytime I hear this song I think of that night.

I'm not too keen on Two Kinds Of Love. It's ok (apart from Kenny G - everything involving him sucks) but it could have been so much better. I really like Bruce Hornsby and so I think the two of them could have done a much better collaboration. In fact, I was listening to Look Out Any Window the other day and thought Stevie would sound great singing backup on it.

I too thought back in 1989 she was pretty much done....nothing really surfaced about her after RAL and the news of her cocaine rehab. Next thing I knew was that FM reunited to play at Clinton's inauguration. Then came the Dance! And did I ever Dance...for joy!

This surprises me. At least where I lived at the time in the Philly area, there was a lot of advance talk on the radio about it. I remember once catching the tail end of a conversation wheres the DJs were saying that they were so happy that the new album was going to include this song that she had been doing for years in her live set. I thought maybe it would be "I Need to Know" - to this day I don't know what song they were talking about.
Also, "Rolling Stone" used to talk about Stevie pretty regularly in those days, and at one point it said that she had completed three songs with Kenny G, including "Dial the Number" & "Don't Treat Me Like a Stranger", for the new album.

When Mirror was released I had just started to collect Stevie (& FMac) (really '88) so I was excited to have a 'new' LP to hear after hearing all the previous at that point. Yes, it was different but for me Mirror is special it always will be ....I recall seeing ROF on MTV than and all the UK interviews. Getting all the 12" singles with picture covers and the 45/ps etc. It really made it awesome to be a Stevie fan & to be collecting back than. Personally, RAL, is the disappointment to me more so than Mirror just because of 'all' the songs she recorded for it and for the mess that it was with all the producers etc. Yeah, SA isn't my favorite either but I tell ya that tour was a ROCKING tour and Stevie's voice was awesome!! I didn't get to see her for Mirror solo (missed it) but did for the Mask tour--thats another story. So every LP has its ups & downs. We all love what we love and theres nothing wrong in that is there!! Its all good!!:D:shrug:
