Uh, ok CADreaming, I never knew about the kiss on the cheek before.
I think this is coming out because of what Hejira heard at that last Unleashed concert. Lindsey said, "I even kissed you on the cheek" and that got Stevie to thinking about when she kissed him on the cheek.
Also, she is pushing their dating up to the year before Fritz disbanded, rather than as something that happened as a result of them disbanding.

Hmmm. I knew that Jess loved Lindsey and that Barbara eventually did (although I don't think she did when Fritz started), but now Grandpa loved him too??
This is a great article. Thank you for posting and thank you Macman.
I don't know who wrote this narrative for Stevie. It's based on comments she undoubtedly made, but this is not the way she would present her story, even though it's in the first person.

Which honestly makes a whole lot more sense, in the grand scheme of things. Would explain her statements about how Lindsey was offered record deals but wouldn't go without her, why they just up and moved to LA together..
I agree that this doesn't really sound like the way Stevie would tell a story. Then again, I'm sure it was just based off an interview she gave and they edited the heck out of it to make it into this narrative.

 Eventually she'll get around to telling the truth. I know she doesn't expect me to conveniently forget that house in Los Gatos after she mentioned it every night for - what was it? - 83 shows?? LOL!

He was a keeper. He probably jammed with Grandpa back in 1970 (when they first became a couple and went to visit him in AZ)... ;)

I thought it must have been part of a five page essay she wrote one night after she was mad about something...

At the last Unleashed show in New Zealand there was a moment during Stevie's continuing "Gypsy" saga where Lindsey interrupted her story to kiss her on the cheek.
Here's (http://ledge.fleetwoodmac.net/showthread.php?p=861273#post861273) the review.

I felt the same while I was reading it. I suspect Stevie gave a verbal interview, and a writer/editor transposed it, making it coherent and succinct.
The photo is amazing. She looks so beautiful. I like seeing her smile; in so many photos she's stern-faced or blank.

Love the photo & article, I'm so glad that she finally admits knowing who Secret Love is about, after repeating that same old lame BS story saying she really cant remember, I guess she had her reasons to go down that line, using this as the main subject matter in her interviews:shrug: It wont be long before she spills the beans:D lol

Stevie's just rewriting history again. Gotta love her. :p Lindsey kissed her and now she wants to say she kissed him first. :xoxo: Just like a woman.
I'd love to blame the writer here if I hadn't listened to the UK radio interview where Stevie told a whopper on air about something that happened at the Wiltern. She said she broke into tears as Lindsey came on stage to sing Soldier's Angel with her.
I took the money shot of them embracing when he came on stage. It was in my first post on the Ledge. I was close up and saw their faces. Lindsey was crying. Stevie wasn't. Why she turned it around to her being the one in tears... Stevie Nicks, there were 2,000 witnesses!
There she goes again! :wavey:

When you think about it, the whole "cheaper than free" moment with Reese asking "what's cheaper than free?" played much more magically in Stevie's recollection than it did when we watched the moment ourselves. It seemed much more like casual joking, rather than a light bulb going off.
Well, Stevie has the knack of making things sound dramatic, not only in song, but in regular discussion.

She definitely romanticized that whole conversation, as I imagine she does a lot of things. Maybe not intentionally... but none the less, I think we can assume reality tends to get exaggerated / embellished / dramatized often.

She's a raconteur. Me and my sisters are exactly the same. My older sister can take the tiniest incident and turn it into a great story. It makes for good company, but you wouldn't want them in charge of writing your history texts.

That being said, this entire "Secret Love" thing... in light of the new Dennis Wilson "Stevie" thread, maybe he's the secret love! Weirder things have happened, and she would've told us if it was one of the regulars (Mick, etc.)

^^^ Well, not necessarily. I think that if it is Mick, then she's not saying so because then that would put their whole thing at least a year earlier than either of them has ever admitted to, and definitely when she was still technically with Lindsey.
My other hunch is that it was just a crush. One of those things she elaborated in her imagination but nothing actually happened. But again, that could fit Mick at that time, because I think those two were attracted more or less from the time BN joined - as sort of commented on by LB himself to Mick, in fact!
God, I need a life.

I wouldn't exactly carbon date Secret Love's origins to her 1st year in Fleetwood Mac based upon Stevie's shaky recollections:rolleyes:. However if SL was written in 75'-76' and it happened to be about Mick, not only is it possible that she was still technically with Lindsey, but also Mick would have still been technically married.
But I'm not jumping to that easy conclusion. I think its possible SL was written anywhere from 75'-78' based upon her voice and other demos with that same keyboard ("Castaway", etc.) Stevie had a notorious lively bachelorette rock n roll lifestyle esp. in those 1st five years in Fleetwood Mac & was linked to many successful men in music (on stage & behind the scenes) ;) Secret Love could be about many paramours she left crying in the night, especially in light of this article. She clearly looked at her male relationships as part romance, part career advancement and was willing to walk away in order to grow and stay in control. And looking back at just some of her romances, this assertion seems to fit. Lindsey-Don Heney-Paul Fishkin-Jimmy Iovine. plus there were the others she had fleeting relationships with: Walter Egan, JD Souther, Mick Fleetwood and others behind the scenes, you'd need a detective to put together a timeline to keep up with Stevie from 75'-79' :p

Learned is the american english verb conjugation whilst Learnt is the british english verb conjugation....
Often 'learnt' is preferred in that it eliminates the confusion between 'learned' the verb and 'learned' the adjective.
I personally prefer learned, along with spelled, spilled etc and am often berated for my use of them. Oh yeah I am in the UK.

I think it's funny that people nitpick about details in Stevie's interviews and say she's lying or making stuff up. Honestly, I'm 41 and when I try to recall something that happened ten years ago, hell five years ago, God knows I'm lucky I can get years right let alone specific dates, emotions or conversations. And I'm sure telling a story over and over again you probably find yourself repeating the story not from the memory of the actual event but rather from the last time you talked about it, and that obviously will lead to inconsistencies as the years go on. I can imagine what it's like for a woman of 63 years who's been through both cocaine and klonopin addiction and has a lot more stories to tell people than most of us. Thank God people don't compare my stories, emails and blog posts. You would all think I was totally nuts. LOL.

Please, give me a link of ANY English dictionary that includes "learnt".
If they wanted to eliminate the confusion then change the spelling of the adjective, since the verb is used infintely more than the adjective.
Add the double "n" to the adjective (like how its actually pronounced) "Learnned"
Damn Brits, don't even know how to use their own damned language.

^^^ I nitpick for a living (copy editor), am based in the UK, and, in line with the house styles of almost every British publisher, I would always try to dissuade a writer from using 'learnt'.* 'Learned' is much better.
* For US readers, including Chili, British punctuation convention is to place the closing quote before the full point when the quoted material is an incomplete sentence.

Something else interesting here -
Best of my knowledge, this is the first time Stevie's ever spelled out that her parents totally cut her off when she left school to "go become a big rock star" with Lindsey.
i.m.o. they were not pleased. I feel that maybe it's been vaguely hinted at before; but never spelled out so clearly.

"For what it's worth":
From m-w.com (Merriam-Webster's online dictionary) -
"Learnt: chiefly British past and past participle of 'learn.'"
Don't believe everything they teach you in High School. ;)
Remember, some of these teachers are the same people trying to tell you that "irregardless" isn't a word. Trust me, it is.
P.S. - An old Funk & Wagnell's Dictionary I have confirms it - both "learnt" and "learned" are correct English.
Seriously, don't believe everything they teach you in High School.
They're just as human as anyone; and sometimes they're just plain wrong. :)
