I saw Harry Potter last night. I give it an 8/10. It would've ranked higher but... there were things I expected to see and... didn't see them. So yeah. Overall enjoyable.

Rofl! That''ll be me when Snape dies. Seriously, I'll be bucketing. Even more so than when Hedwig and Dobby died. Didn't care so much about Mad Eye though. He just scared me.

You havn't read the books? How is that possible for a Harry Potter fan? Most of the information is in the books. I grew up reading them long before the movies started coming out.

I read up to the 3rd. I'm not a big book person. I really like HP but not a mega fan who reads the books. I enjoy the movies. I know every big HP fan tells me the same thing though about the books.

I'm curious as to what you expected to see and didn't. I saw it this evening and was more than pleasantly surprised. I knew they would have to leave things out, but I thought they kept all the integral parts. I thought the Snape flashback scenes were especially well done, although they differed slightly from the book, I thought it worked for the movie.

I just got back and afgsdhjfg I'm still a snivelly mess. I'm concious of posting spoilers but I bawled. And I had my Gryffindor uniform and wand. I'm curious as to what you expected to see and didn't. I saw it this
Things I didn't like:
-Harry didnt use the Elder Wand to repair his at the end
-We didn't see Lupin, Tonks, and the Weasley boy actually die
-the duel between Bellatrix and Mrs. Weasley was disappointing
-where was the Slughorn/Kingsley/McGonagall vs. Voldemort duel?
-Why would they have Harry finally kill Voldemort without everyone else witnessing it?

The whole Elder wand thing was confusing in the book, so I think the filmakers were just trying to simplify. So many wands, so little time!
I knew we wouldn't get much of Lupin/Tonks/Fred. They haven't been in the movies enough to have justified big death scenes for them (in the director's mind).
Bella and Mrs.Weasley works in the book, but I kind of figured it would look rather lame on film. However, I thought Helena Bonham Carter's Hermione/Emma impression more than made up for it.
I didn't care about the missing duel, this film already had plenty of action.
I agree the Voldemort death was strange, but it didn't bother me too much.
I thought the epilogue would really bother me, but it didn't. I liked how they went back to Williams' score from the first film. I think I'm just relieved they gave Snape the time he was due.

Agreed. Another thing: they didn't acknowledge that Harry's invisibility cloak was one of the hallows.

I was kind of disappointed, to be honest. I've always enjoyed the films and I appreciate them for what they are (and love the cast as well) but each one reminds me how MUCH more I enjoy the books. There were some awesome things in this movie and as a film, it was enjoyable and exciting and I think, had I not read the books, I might have thoroughly enjoyed it more than I did. I am not a nit-picker, little things don't bother me even when I notice them, but the larger deviations from the plot or omissions bothered me more. I want to be more moved and I felt like a lot of things happened either too quickly or in a manner that wasn't as emotionally charged as it was written. I would say The Prince's Tale was probably the only thing that was both a favorite part of the book AND film. A lot of things in the battle at Hogwarts was changed and not necessarily for the better and one of my favorite parts of the book, when Ron and Hermione kiss and are spotted by Harry, didn't happen that way at all and I think it would have made for a great moment in the film.
I did enjoy it and I did think it wrapped things up well, but it was not my favorite of the films and it really just made me want to go re-read the book again and capture those feelings the movie didn't provide.

I enjoyed it. Wasn't the best. Wasn't the worst. I did hate the last 10 minutes of the movie. The CGI was laughable and the acting was cringe-worthy. Why would they age the guys and just leave the girls as is, with old lady clothing. I literally laughed out loud in the theatre.

These are all things I agree with - particularly the Weasley/Bellatrix duel. I loved that in the book, Mrs Weasley's moment of glory! It was very brief in the film though.
As for McGonagall, she's always been my faveourite character and so it was brilliant to see Maggie Smith actually having some stuff to. They've often wasted a truly fantastic actress in the series of films. I'd have loved to see her in the battle itself but I LOVED the little line when she brought the statues to life! She was like an excited child when she cast the spell and it was delivered brilliantly. Her duel of Snape was also very good.
My main gripe with the film, and keep in mind that I think these 2 films are by far the best of the entire series, was the epilogue scene. It wasn't originally filmed and wasn't planned - they brought the cast back 6 months later for reshoots and you can totally tell. 19 years later? Ummm...Ok, Daniel Radcliffe has a different hairstyle and Emma Watson has an older style jacket - that's it! You'd think they could have used prosthetics, or even just more make up, to make them actually look 19 years older! It looked ridiculous and was very, very jarring after the end of the battle. Also, Daniel Radcliffe's acting with his son was horrible. They also cut almost all the lines from the book and there was some nice stuff ebtween Ron and Hermione in that section but we didn't get that. It all just looked rushed and sloppy, which is not what the rest of the series has been. Very disappointing. When I buy the film on dvd I'll be stopping after the final scene of the 3 of them on the bridge.

But it was mentioned in part one that one of the three hallows was indeed an invisibility cloak. Most people put two and two together and realised for themselves that it would inevitable be Harry's cloak. I don't think it at all needed to be spelled out.

Yeah, I actually heard someone behind me say to his dad "Harry's cloak" so I don't think they needed to state it.
On the subject of Fred, Remus and Tonks, I don't think I could have coped with seeing them die. I do think they should have made it clear which twin died but just seeing him there and hearing Molly cry was harrowing enough for me.

I knew I'd cry when I saw this movie, and cry I did. Especially through Severus' death and his memory sequence. Something about seeing Severus Snape of all people crying got to me so much. And Neville's speach. I'm so used to little Neville being a meek wallflower. But to see him rise up and engage himself with the fight, to be brave enough to defy Voldemort when he could have struck him down so easily just awed me. He's an inspirational character, certainly. Even still. Severus is the biggest loss for me. I need to find that memory online somewhere because that was....I have no words. The movie as a whole was just spectacular. It far outstripped the others in drama and emotion. It was enough to see McGonnagal not only smile, but crack several jokes to make it my favourite movie. BOOM!
Well there it is. My childhood over.

Even in the book it felt ridiculous, so I wouldn't think too much on it. And I agree with you whole heartedly! I've always been a fan of Mr Rickman, and he's just spectacular in this final installment. His voice... *swoon*. I'm afraid I'm with the "He deserves an Oscar for that performance" mob lol. He was utterly heartbreaking in his revelation of his persona outside of his stoic cynicism.

There were so many things ripping my mind in two during The Prince's Tale. Alan's performance, crying over how much Snape loved Lily and how much of a MILF Geraldine Somerville is.

:laugh::laugh::laugh:
It certainly was an amazing scene. Personally I'd call it the greatest scene in the entire franchise, closely followed by his death itself. I never thought that CoS would remain my favourite of the series, but DHp2 did a wondrous job in shifting it to second place. Just a shame that my favourite had to include the death of my most beloved character.

Overall, I have to say I was kind of disappointed. I must be one of the few who was never too big on the Snape/Lily thing. I guess because I'd been hearing people speculate it for years before the book came out, that I was never really shocked/surprised/enthralled/moved by it in the book. I teared up a little at Snape's death but was more interested in Dumbledore saying that Harry was meant to die all along than anything they revealed about Snape and Lily.
My point is, is that the way they portrayed that in the film did nothing to rectify how they messed up or omitted a whole bunch of other stuff. For me, at least. There was a lot of little things but this is what bothered me the most:
- Three Words: Grindelwald and Dumbledore. WHERE WAS IT?
- They did an awful job explaining the Helena Ravenclaw / Diadem thing. In fact, I wouldn't even say they explained it at all. If you hadn't of read the book, how on earth were you supposed to understand why she wanted the diadem destroyed or what her deal was anyway?
- The end of the battle. Why didn't the Neville/Nagini stuff and Harry/Voldemort stuff happen in front of the crowd like it did in the book? It took away the greatness for them to be alone when all of that happened. Also, I could have done without the 5 minutes of Harry/Voldy jumping off cliffs and zooming around the castle. After all that, his death was pretty anti-climatic.

I was waiting for the fan fair, too, and was ultimately disappointed. Despite Voldemort's death having meant to be the pinnacle moment of the movie, it was overshadows dramatically by Snape's. His death was probably the most well done of the entire series, never mind segment.

I thought it was just me over analysing everything as per usual, but the resemblance is striking. He really does look as though he was made up by Tim Burton, which is a little disconcerting when you think about it. Lawd....How messed up would this movie franchise be if Tim Burton held the reigns?! I'm worryingly curious as to how that would look, though it I guess in hindsight is the kind of curious that makes people watch car crashes for a glimpse of a gory injury.

Me too! It put me in mind of one of his earlier films. Have you ever seen Vincent? That was very much like the Three Brothers in terms of overall mood. I was never a massive fan of Tim Burton until I'd seen Vincent, and then I decided that I very much preferred his earlier and written work. His bigger productions are too vivid and "out there" for me. They're like a stoner's nightmare.

For a casual fan, I thought this movie was fantastic! I only read the first four books (through Goblet of Fire). Same with the movies...I saw the end of Order of the Phoenix, but never saw the majority. I missed the Half Blood Prince as well as Deathly Hallows pt 1.
Overall, I was extremely pleased. It was a magical movie that tied up all the loose ends of a majorly popular franchise. But I will agree with some of the comments made in this thread, there were many confusing scenes for people who didn't read the books.
First, the Ravenclaw/Diadem thing was poorly explained. I had no idea what that was all about. Then he just turns, moves a cloth, and finds it in a box? wtf.
Second, who the hell was the guy dying in the safe house at the beginning?
Third, the explanation of the wand....so lost, still. Something about Drako in there too.
I did think it was an amazing movie, though. Like a lot of the people here, I grew up with Harry Potter. I got goosebumps several times throughout the movie. I want to go see it again!

Well, it was in the room of requirement. And most people wouldn't have been able to find it in such a packed out room. Oh, and he does have a "sixth sense" for Horcruxes, having a part of Voldemort in himself too. Please tell me you understood that he himself was an inadvertent Horcrux.
Ollivander. He was in the last movie after being held captive with Luna and Griphook for his unique knowledge of wandcraft and his excellent memory for whom he had bestowed them upon.
Again, the last movie explained it very well in the tale of The Three Brothers. It was created to be a Master of all Wands, if you think in terms of Lord Of The Rings, it was the "Preciousssss One". Effectively, it would render its owner (the last person to defeat/disarm its previous owner) indestructible by mortal wand.
