Hello

I will try and be as civil as I can be. I totally got where 2011 is so different than lets say 1982

1982 , there wasnt D/L of songs, You Tube, etc, I get ALL that, and true, basically you HAD to go and buy the music where these days, you dont

But, if that is the reason SN cant sell platinum any more, and that she is doing better than artits her age, then please explain how
Bruce Springsteen & E Street Band
Eagles
Elton John
U2

Can all still sell MILLIONS, now I get they are acts, bands, etc, and they have a huge fan base, but from what I read, doesnt SN also have a large fan base? or FM has one so wouldnt there be carry over?

I mean, the acts I named above are all old arent they?

I dont 100 % understand the argument, it sounds like a cop out to me

First off they are men. Eagles get the country crowd too. Bruce get the good old boys from America. Elton John gets the euro vote and U2, the most overrated band of them all get a little of both.

Stevie suffered bad word of mouth from some previous album. Stevie is not Fleetwood Mac. Don Henley would be hard pressed to sale many albums.

When was the last time Elton John had a platinum new studio album here? I think it has been decades.Springsteen's last album did not go platinum..not even close .The Eagles Long Road Out of Eden was a one off ,their first studio in nearly 30 years. It won't happen again.

Your forgetting that ticket prices included a copy of the eagles album. Your right about elton and springsteen

I wonder if Stevie should dump WB for a company that would promote her better. She's been with WB since day one with FM.The way I see it They are not knocking on radio station doors and telling them give it a spin for Pete's sake.
To this day 3 months later .I have NOT heard a note from IYD from the radio.I think it's time for her to move on with a different label.or also try the country route.

not sure if thats it or its just her time is done...i think its about time she write that book...i love her to death so i want her to continue to make music till she can no longer...i have brought IYD to the workplace..alotta people there in my age group..49 (ish)..they KNOW who she is...i have put it in to be heard and they say things like "she USED to be good"..."she doesn't have it anymore." i'm not saying this...other people are...and if thats what a tiny percentage of people are saying that i know...chances are this is the consensus...it may be as simple as her time as a "rock star" is done...so...what do you do??? become an author...people will WANT to read this book...she waits too long and nobody will buy it because all the people that know stevie nicks will be dead or too old to read it..unless of course its published in large print

two words- Jimmy Iovine! knows how to sell her like no one else!
two more words- American Idol- he's the in-house mentor. could easily work her into the show.
i think there was talk of FM going to Interscope for Say You Will. a new company would more aggressively promote a new signing!

First of all... Why are we still dwelling on Stevie Nicks: the Pop Star? Her days as the fairy pop ingenue are long gone... Stevie Nicks is an established 'singer-songwriter-legend'... The general populous is not clamoring for material from her beyond her 80s hits... New material is geared towards fans, and 'In Your Dreams' has found its way into this market. Same thing applies towards Springsteen & Elton John these days. The only way Stevie has a chance of getting a hit is on the Dance Charts... with a remix or specialty release (Part of me has always wanted Stevie to team up a dance producer and do an album of old and new compositions on a dance mix; and just release it without a tour).

I sent her a message via The Nixfix years ago about going with Interscope because of Jimmy Iovine and the fact that he knows her and her early demos and, of course his work on Belladonna was amazing! Jimmy seems to be Mr Music at the moment and they seemed to have a certain chemistry and worked well together at the time!

Go Country.Put a cowboy hat on .She got the boots already. The country fans will love her, most country fans know who she is already. She's a storyteller as we know.Country today is love soft rock of the 70's and 80's.She will be ok.Like said rock music is dead as I see it.At this point I think she does not care it the cd goes to the top of the charts. She's just happy to record new songs for us .Her loving true Stevie fans. That makes her happy. It would be nice to see Jimmy back in the picture again.

Are you familiar with a hip hop artist named The Game? I was listeneing to a new track by him and in it he says that he doesn't need to work with Jimmy Iovine no more cause he doesn't need Jimmy to sneek in some units cause he can sell his own records.

Recently we discovered(but I don't remember where) that Jimmy fudged some of the sales units in order to move the Bella Donna album to the top of the Billboard music chart in 1981.

If that were true, she'd release a new album every year. I don't know why people think she doesn't care about sales (and who cares what she says in interviews she says what she thinks the fans want to hear). Sales produce money and money funds her lifestyle. All those costume changes aren't cheap and can't be claimed on tax as she has dicovered!

In keeping with her "I'm a huge rock star" mentality (delusion?), I think signing with a smaller/less prestigious label would be a slap to her ego.

I felt this way with TISL as well, and even then wondered why WB is still involved with an artist (including FM) that it seemingly refuses to promote...?

I know it may not even make bussiness sense but maybe loyalty:shrug:.Fleetwood Mac once sold tens of millions of albums for them. That or the percieved value of their back catalouge.

I agree with the bolded. I don't think Stevie makes music simply for her fans, and I think she cares a great deal about sales. Not merely for money, though--she sees sales as artistic validation.
She must feel a bit deflated that IYD, her favorite of her solo albums, hasn't lit the world on fire. I can only hope that she enjoyed the experience enough to consider it worthwhile and be willing to do it all again.

I agree that the back catalogue is probably a factor, and loyalty may be as well. And really, a #6 album is nothing to sniff at. Stevie's probably one of their better selling artists, and Warner must appreciate having an artist with a built-in, fairly dependable fan base.

Because she said she doesn't and if you pay attention you can easily tell that Nicks is nothing if honest (and perhaps overly blunt sometimes). This assertion that "she says what she thinks the fans want to hear" is BS. She doesn't need album sales, all of her money has been invested for years. She is, as she says "financially stable".

She hasn't had an album out every year because her management convinced her in 2005 that it wasn't worth it to put out new music. Since the making of this album was such a great experience, you can tell in interviews that she'd love to get back into the studio and do it again.

Karen may be dead honest, but I wouldn't say that about Stevie.

Oh she totally cares about sales. That's why she doesn't put out albums back to back. She made comments in the past about it. However, I think Stevie is smart and has changed a little bit. She took a back seat to Rod Stewart and got some good cash. She is used to getting bad reviews and this album really has done well critically. She is going out on a good note and she likes the album. Stevie realizes her age. She is ending her career on good notes. Crystal Vision, Soundstage and In Your Dreams were all quality products. Very smart products.

P.S. The people who don't wanna believe that she cares about sales haven't been playing close attention.

Even if they gave an album with the tickets sold, those don't count toward the totals for certification. SoundScan/Billboard changed their policies after Prince included the price of a CD in the ticket price and "sold"over a million copies of Musicology. Albums only count toward sale counts if ticket buyers are given the choice at checkout now.

The Eagles had not only the length of time since dropping the previous studio album going for them but also the Wal-Mart machine behind it. Plus, there was some questionable practices since it was a retailer exclusive that was being sold at other retailers which may or may not have amounted to double sales. Then there was the last minute petition and rule change so that it would show up as #1 on the Billboard chart.

Some don't have a reasonable and practical grasp of the economics, the demographics, and the current culture as it pertains to older, established artists.

I don't know, when someone is part of a band I think you would read their interviews to gain more insight into the things they have been part of which do interest you, whether or not you are a fan.

If I was a Mick Jagger fan, I'd have to read Keith Richards' interviews, even if I didn't like him, because they might reveal something about Mick to me. Even if the things Keith said were untrue, the lies themselves would give me a peephole into the dynamic of a pairing that was so much a part of Mick's life that I couldn't ignore it, loathe Keith as a I might.

Even as it is, although I'm not a Mick Jagger or Keith Richards fan, I still found Keith's book a darn good read. I might not be interested in him, per se, but I'm interested in his rock background and the Rolling Stones' history.

In my opinion there is a great big divide between Stevie Nicks the character and Stevie Nicks the person. Sure as a person she cares about her fans, they have made her what she is, sure as a person she probably has unresolved issues regarding LB. However the character that Stevie plays is not really her. She isn't really a witch (well not as far as we know) she doesn't really dress like that all day (fans expect her to dress like her on-stage persona which she doesn't) and the whole Lindsey Buckingham thing has been used to sell albums and create a whole lot of those people who still believe they will/should get back together.
