In 2008 Ann & Nancy Wilson (Heart) toured with Journey & Cheap Trick and most cridicts/fans went away saying that Heart was the best and now they're on a summer tour with Def Leppard and getting the same praise!
It's a shame they're not in the 'R&R Hall of Fame'!
But they did/will get a 'Star on The Walk of Fame'!!
Ann has the vocal chops to blow all those guys voices out of the water! :)

Oh I dunno about that... sure blows every other female voice out of the water chops-wise though.

Out of those three bands, yes, she blows them away! Robin Zander & Joe Eliot don't sound like they did 15, 20 years ago & Stevie Perry is no longer in Journey & although the guy that sings for them is good, he's no Perry!
Yes, Ann can blow Stevie & Deborah & ect out of the water (as much as I love them) & that's the truth! ;)

I love Heart and always have. Those girls are vastly talented, take no bs, and are nice people to boot.
On the issue of Ann's voice, I have bad news. It isn't the instrument it used to be. I have been an Ann Wilson vocal champ cheerleader for 30 years. She was always under rated. And her voice held up very very well until about 2005. But the last few years have taken a toll. Live or in studio, her voice has taken on a ragged, screechy quality in her upper register. Don't get me wrong, I am still a huge fan. But the last Heart record, and Ann's solo record, in tandem with live shows have shown some bitter proof. The voice that wouldn't quit is starting to give out. She can still hit the notes. She can still even hoot out some pretty falsetto at the end "What About Love". But the age is starting to show, and the writing is on the wall. God Bless Her. She is almost 60. I don't fault her. It just makes me sad to see that her epic instrument is starting to fray.
Never bothered me too much when it happened to Stevie. I didn't even care that Ann's weight was so out of control. Who cares how fat these people are? Really. Good for a cheap joke but that is it. But for some reason I always thought Ann's voice was Mount Rushmore. It isn't. Even granite cracks eventually, I suppose.

I seriously don't get why there must be so much comparison. Really.
I do agree that Ann blows so many female leads out of the water but I don't bother saying it, I just appreciate them all differently. And no, don't even think about it because I would never hate on Ann or Nancy, I love them to bits. I'm hating on the thread type.

I agree about the comparison crap but I meant the three bands Heart has toured with within in the last few years. As for Ann & the other ladies, they all rock! ;)

Oh I can agree to that. Joe Elliot these days, oh dear. I miss Steve Perry! :distress:

I have to say that I have seen tons and tons of bands over the last 20 years and Ann Wilson hands down has the best voice I have heard and my first time seeing Heart was just last year. She has one hell of an amazing voice. The only other person I have heard sing live that can somewhat compare is Christina Aguilera but really there is no comparison. I say this as a huge Stevie fan too.

To compare Ann Wilson to, well... just about any other singer is like comparing a orange juice and vodka. Comparisons of singers are silly; if we gauged the relative abilities of a singer strictly on power and range, then we would all be listening to Kelly Clarkson and Christina Aguilera albums or some other overwraught pop tart on some television singing competition. Yuck! Fortunately singing is also about feel, timbre, phrasing and subtlety.
The reason why Heart is not bigger, IMHO, is that they were the masters at the art of album filler. The typical Heart album was comprised of 2 to 4 killer single-worthy songs mixed in with an abundance of mediocre crap. Sure, they were quite prolific, and they managed to crank out a lot of classic songs during their heyday, but it all perhaps yielded an album or two worth of listenable material. Contrast this with a band like Boston, who has been around as long as Heart, yet only has a handful of albums to their credit. Those first two albums are classic and their enduring longevity is a testament to the strength of those albums. Perhaps Heart would be regarded as highly today if they just exercised a bit of restraint with regard to their 1970s-early 80s output; sometimes less is truly more.

I don't like that last post at all & highly disagree!
Have you ever heard their albums 'Desire Walks On' & 'Jupiter's Darling' & the latest 'Red Velvet Car'? Those were highly underated! Yes, the 70's albums are killer but so are the 80's ones like 'Heart', 'Bad Animals' & 'Brigade'. Sometimes more is truly more!

Uh ..you did post in the Stevie forum earlier this year that Red Velvet Car is so bad it's unlistenable.I do like Jupiter's Darling and some of their 1970s albums I agree with Hejira that there is too much filler on some.Heartless is the only decent song on Magazine which I know was a contractual obligation .The mid to late 1980s El Lay hair band albums were sellouts that they had to do after all studio albums after Bebe Le Strange until Heart in 1985 bombed.Ann has/had one of the finest voices in rock but sadly I too have noticed the decline starting with her solo album.

Did you happen to read where I emphasized their 1970s - early 1980s output as being full of filler? I agree that DWO and JD are very strong albums. But they were also albums that appeared after many years of absence- time that was surely spent writing good songs. In the 1970s and early 80s, they cranked out so many albums year after year that the quality just wasn't as consistent.
