View Full Version : Lindsey's thoughts on BN on cd...

From 2007......
Gazette: OK. So the last thing I want to ask ... I have to strike a blow for the collectors here because so many ...
Buckingham: (Laughs) It's the Buckingham Nicks collection, isn't it?
Gazette: You got it. Everybody's always asking. Are there any plans to issue this thing on CD?
Buckingham: You know, my answer is always yes. And I believe that that's a truthful answer. It's the best answer I can give, but it's also a situation which is symptomatic of one of the things that can be wrong with Fleetwood Mac, or certainly with Stevie's and my situation. We can't always get things on the same page or get organized. There's a certain inertia to that and there's kind of a sense of well, when is it going to make sense to do it? Or is it ever going to make sense to do it? So I don't know. I have to say yes, but I don't know. Call up Stevie's people and ask 'em. (Laughs).

It reeks of apathy, and it's insult to the long-time devoted fans who have given them a very cushy life. To prep the album would take minor effort/cost, and it would mean so much to their fans. In the vast amount of time between albums, you think they would have re-released it. But they are being very snotty about it.
Perhaps social media can push them into releasing it: a twitter campaign, a facebook page, etc. We can shame them into it.

Why does anyone care about him re-releasing BN? Nothing Linds does for an official re-release will greatly improve the quality of the DLedin Galemark 16 bit vinyl rip remasters. He knows it. He's waiting for a reason to make it official with some kind of event. Probably a tour for the two of them. Guess the timing isn't right for that, yet.

I would love to sit them down in a room together to talk this ish out- I'll mediate- and everyone will be happy with the outcome. I mean, they're both on the same page, it can't be that difficult.
Or can it???

Maybe Stevie wants to sequence the CD differently.
Seriously though, the whole Buckingham Nicks CD Release thing has just turned into a giant "It's not me, it's him/her!" flip flop thing between the two of them, they need to get a grip

Huh? What are thoses? And how does it relate to an official re-release of the album? Why would this factor into Lindsey's decision? It sounds like Stevie is the one who is holding it up.

I'm not sure how that relates to the official release of the album, but that poster was referencing one of the finest vinyl rips/clean-ups I have ever heard for any release... ever. It's as clean as any commercial CD I have heard, but with all the dynamics of recorded sound in-tact... it really is something I recommend everyone take a listen to. I know it seems hard to believe, but I don't know if the eventual (hopefully!) commercial release will sound as good when it finally does happen. With DLedin's permission, I shared lossless versions awhile back here on The Ledge. But if you would like to take a listen, I still have mp3s of it uploaded to my mediafire account. I agree. If it's 'just' a great-sounding digital copy of the BN album you want, then this meets that, imo.
The only point of an official CD release of that material is if it's not just that material. They could make a decent package of bonus tracks, alt versions, demos and rareties, with good liner notes and pics etc. That would be worth it, but otherwise, I have no idea why people clamour for a CD. Those particular vinyl rips are excellent.
As to why it doesn't happen? I have a hunch that Stevie is the block for two reasons.
One is the cover. I think she doesn't want to field questions about posing topless, or backhanded compliments about how great she looked (past tense), and have her judgement as a young woman in the '70s music business questioned from the perspective of the present day. Sure, they could change the cover, but then people would probably talk about the original one even more!
The other reason is that, with the exception of the always-tenuous FM, the BN album is the great Unfinished Business between her and LB. And if they deal with that, then they really are 'done'. And I don't think Stevie will ever want to be truly done with LB!:lol:

I completely disagree about the cover being the block. In the first place, I suspect Stevie thinks/knows she looks great; she does not seem to have doubts about her looks whenever people compliment her (i.e., she readily agrees and gives her beauty tips). Second, and more important, if anything the cover gives her one more opportunity to bash Lindsey for bullying her. You really think she'll pass that up? (I'm surprised she has not yet thought of a way to blame him for the breast implants leaking.;) )
I do agree that any reissue is pointless, even with a tour, if they don't throw in other songs. I want "Without You", "Farewell Failure", "Sorcerer", etc. on a second CD in the same set. What I do NOT want (but fear) is the sort of stuff we got with some of the FM reissues. I do not want a reissued BN with a couple of scaled down/unfinished/alternate versions of songs we already know and like better in current form.

Sorry I'm not buying that. There are plenty of other Buckingham Nicks pictures that could be used as an alternate cover if they could be bothered actually putting it out.

I don't think it's a question of buying it. I only suggested that it might be a factor, and I did so because I think SN is very up and down about the ageing process, as most women are. And as I said, surely choosing a new cover still draws attention to the old one.

I just think they BOTH don't want to go back there while they are Both still releasing new music. It would kind of be a distraction and possibly interfere with sales of the current CDs. They might do it when they "retire" and need some dough for a world cruise.;)

I think they're waiting until they're done with everything else, if that makes sense, so that can be their last hoorah, so to speak. Coming full circle and ending things how they began. We all know how Lindsey loves his cycles.
Could just be wishful thinking though.

The moment they officially remaster and re-release Buckingham Nicks on CD is the moment the cult of this record diminishes or dies. Do they really want BN to lose its novelty and mystique?? Most everyone who loves or cares about this record has a digital rip of it from some source (the links jeffd8382 provided in this thread are superior and highly recommended - thanks Jeff!) So yeah, they would have to put out a special package (with extras) of some sort if it were to be released, and that would take some effort and agreement from all camps involved. A label & distribution deal would have to be secured, which obviously is more challenging these days. IDK, it feels to me that the opportunity has sorta passed. I'll be happy, but shocked if the day actually comes. With CD sales in steep decline, remasters are becoming even more of a rarity and more like a liability for labels unless there is great demand & great possibility for a decent profit:cool:

I can't recall off the top of my head now the reason(s) why they said BN didn't sell back in the day, what was the reason? The record label? It seemed to me that the record and them were only popular in certain pockets of the country like Alabama of all places in the deep south.
I agree with you though on the mystique dieing if they release BN. I wonder though if part of their feelings are; "Well...... (gotta get a Stevie well in there) if it didn't sell back in the day why would we want to release it now?" Meaning if it wasn't good enough then to be appreciated and sell why now when their fame would be the main factor for it selling and back to what you said about the mystique.
If you read between their lines they both are skating around the answers to questions about it. And, sadly, it may very well mean both of them passing over before it comes out.....unless it's tied up in wills....but you know someone is invariably going to get greedy and want money from releasing it.

My thoughts exactly. We have the songs. Do people actually think it's going to be a gold selling album and Lindsey and Stevie will emerge as the hottest new duo on the scene? I mean come on people, they've given enough with FM and solo careers. Listen to your BN CD/digital rips and get over it. The only thing that would be great would be a BN tour but hello, we have that just with Mick and John. Throw some BN cuts in there to satisfy your needs and there you have it.

OK I do love these two but they are beginning to frustrate me in terms of this record. Everytime I see an interview with them about this they always blame it not coming out on the other one ;)! I have heard all of the Buckingham Nicks songs thanks to some people on this board ;) and youtube and am kind of in love with them:nod:! Now if they did what you said (adding extra songs and what not) there's a chance that many people would buy it. Especially those that really have only heard of the record but not actually have heard it, if that makes sense. or people who only listened to the album back when it was first released might see it, and pick it up for nostalgia reasons. And I'm more than sure that if they sell it people are going to see their two names and faces on the cover, know who they are and want to check out the album. Which would help boost sales. I don't know . I guess I'm just trying to remain positive because I really, really, really want this album to come out.

Ok, my question is, why bother with paying for it when there are EXCELLENT versions out in Webweb land to download for free...INCLUDING the unused demos, live tracks, etc?
YOU HAVE the Buckingham Nicks album available to you already, why would you WISH to give up your hard earned cash for it? If you "need" to hold it in your hands, burn it to disc...use somebody's "light scribe" to etch artwork onto the disc itself...use a jewel case labelling software to recreate the album artwork. It's a "DIY" world now.
The reason Lindsey & Stevie DON'T release it is that for all intents, it HAS been released...those who want/wanted it, HAVE IT. They don't have to invest (read: risk) their own money 1) to recreate the artwork for a CD package, 2)compile/remix/remaster the songs, 3) find a label to distribute it....THEN have to track its sales. They'd be losing money in the long run. It's more financially sound to NOT release it.
And, from what I've read, the original multi-track master tapes of the album are in seriously bad shape...from what Keith Olsen has said, they'd only survive one or two runs (IF that) through the tape machine and they'd be destroyed.

The real reason: the cover.
Stevie probably wants her frilly blouse airbrushed on. Lindsey's probably yammering about art (although he wouldn't mind airbrushing the slight man boobs).
I have the album cover as part of my living room decor. People think (rightly so) that I'm a bit... touched.

Stevie even said on Ellen that it's hard to sell a CD these days. It's been out there in bootleg format, so it's not like people couldn't have an official looking CD in that format. And if they make it as an iTunes/Amazon download only project it won't be any different from what we already have. It's seriously a project that just won't make a profit these days. Imagine someone asking you to go to work on your day off and spend your time re-writing an old document that would require hours of work and effort all to have very little payout in the end. Would you be thrilled to do it? I mean, sure I'd buy it just to have it but it would sit on my shelf practically untouched (right next to my LP of it) because the music is already on my iPod.

I see your point, Chili. Maybe they missed the boat on this. A few years ago they could have really had a great package to put together with pictures and demos and other extras. That's what I'm looking for - I don't need them to just re-release BN. I'm expecting them to give us a little more goodies from that era. Lost concert footage or home movies, maybe... something. Now that downloading is taking over, I don't know you can do those kind of packages for any other reasons other than nostalgia/cross-promotion. Neil Young and Tom Petty come to mind. They've done similar things. Does it work? I don't know. I guess TPTB could come up with some catch for a "farewell" Mac tour: "Fleetwood Mac featuring Buckingham Nicks" and they could throw a few BN tunes in the set? After reading this post and seeing that photo I will now eat my words. Simply re-releasing BN alone might not be such a hot ticket but given that there are enough fans of both Stevie and Lindsey and the fact that there had been enough interest to keep BN on the bootleg circuit for a while, doing a Soundstage episode of Buckingham Nicks would be kind of brilliant. Waddy is still involved so that would add to the flavor of it hearkening back to the original BN. They could do the whole album live and then they could package it as a DVD/CD package like Stevie's Soundstage was, only make it a total package with the live DVD, a CD of the performance and the original remastered BN on CD. And maybe a CD only version with the concert, the original album and some bonus tracks. Hell, if they wanted to get really creative with marketing they could have the downloadable version have the bonus tracks or a link with the package to a page where you could download bonus mp3's that the fans might not have already.

She wouldn't? Did she say anything about it?
My friend who had one of the rock and roll make-overs, tried to hand Stevie the album and a marker as she walked to the car (this was after we told Stevie she was the reason we had come to Chicago). The sky was overcast and it was a chilly, drab day but it was not raining. Stevie said she couldn't get wet and got in the car and sat there. At the time it seemed like a diva kind of thing to do but maybe she just doesn't like the album cover?!

There would be no point in releasing the CD unless, as others have stated, there was some sort of special package along with it. Demos, live recordings, something. Just putting it out on CD as-is is kind of futile. And even then, I think the suggestion of the Soundstage-esque DVD/CD combo would be the most plausable and appealing option.
If they don't plan on doing something special with it ever, then I don't see why they couldn't just release it on iTunes. At least that way it is easily and officially available to the public (as in, people who may not know of it and/or haven't taken the time to seek a downlaod of it already) AND they can make money from it.

Beautiful! :thumbsup:I really think they need to offically release this. Even if its only in a LTD Edition format. I do agree it should have many extras too. Outtakes/demos/live songs which we know exsist. Photo outtakes. I'm sure this is something that 'they' could make special for us as fans. Sure the profit would be nice but that shouldn't be the only reason to sell. OK call me crazy with that statement. Sure we all may have it in various forms but I for one would buy it if I saw it in a 'deluxe' edition with say 2 cds and a dvd of some kind. It could be a really nice package and all. Personally , I also think it should be released now while they do have other things out. At least they are in the public eyes.:D

And aside from the diehards, you have a whole lot of people who are casual Fletwood Mac fans, but know nothing about that album. I think they might get into it.

You know, I suddenly seem to remember a (televised?) interview or a photoshoot where the cover of B/N was framed on her piano? So, for all the bitching about the cover, I think she has come to like it (most of the time except, perhaps, when she's in her IHL [IHateLindsey] mode).
I'm not sure if that was real or just a dream.

Sometimes it might appear that way; at other times it doesn't. At yet other times, both of these appearances could be an act. I remember the interview where the cover was on on display. I also remember one she did with Lindsey where it came up and she didn't look all that pleased.... I can't see any basis for just asserting that she loves it, but then I'm a fan of complexity, nuance, that kind of thing.:wavey:

That's the one where he said, "Good thing I had long hair" and she said "good thing," and it was obvious that it was not the first time they'd made that little quip together.
As far as the interview where she had the album out, I think she's said she hated it at the time, but that now it's a part of rock history.

There's nothing wrong with the album cover, Stevie Nicks. Move on to another topic in your radio interviews. What did you want on the cover? A stark figure of you, dressed in white robes, set against the misty backdrop of a dreamworld, while a snow-white bird, an emerald-green bird, & a Jules Verne-gold bird fly across the aerial landscape, symbolizing the different colors found in the burgers you were serving at Bob's Big Boy?

Or what if the birds just landed on her shoulder, like in Wilde's The Happy Prince?
There's nothing wrong with the picture to look at, but I don't think many of us, man or woman, would have wanted to pose for it ourselves.
You're young, proud and eager, just starting out on your professional career and the first thing someone asks you to do is take off your shirt. It's humiliating and demeaning. Yeah, I wrote these wonderful songs, but to you I'm a commodity, no different than the the latest Playboy pin up. That hurts.
What I don't like about her story is that . . . well on Seinfeld when they said "yadda yadda yadda" there were events taking place between the lines that aren't articulated. Yadda Yadda Yadda is a substitute for whole sentences, paragraphs and events that happened but aren't being related. But with Stevie, when she says Lindsey is angry and said, "stop acting like a child," I'm willing to bet that that's about all he said to her. I don't think he said, "I haven't gotten this far just for you to ruin my future with false modesty. If you don't take off that shirt, I'll rip it off!"
He probably didn't brow beat or push her in any other way, except to say, "you're being childish," yet if you listened to her, you'd think he was an absolute beast.
I think people read more into the stuff she doesn't say than is really there, they fill the hole with their imagination, believing she's summarizing events that are too horrible to recount in detail. Umm, probably not.
It's like him saying "Who are you, Miss Las Vegas? Sammy Davis Nicks?" And she was so devastated she never moved her mic from her stand again. Oh, brother.

Stevie on the Buckingham Nicks album from Word Magazine, July 2011:
Why has the 1973 Buckingham Nicks album never come out on CD?
You know what? I look at Lindsey and I say the exact same thing. And it's like a '57 Chevy that we both own - he owns half and I own half. And I have always said, "Let's put it out!" And it seems to me that he seems to say, "Well, yeah, let's put it out..." But it never happens!
He says that one of your managers keeps the masters at their house...
(Non-committal) Mmm-mmm... It's totally there and ready to go. We just have to go in and clean it up a little bit. I honestly don't know why. There is no reason. Because both of us would like for the people to have it.

I like the last one when she threw Keith Olsen into the deal and said they all 3 owned the car, which to me meant Keith has either the motor or the keys...and if it's just the keys then Lindsey's gonna have to hot-wire it and get Stevie to push it out of the garage....

I wouldn't know because I've never heard anyone describe the incident except Stevie and Stevie has never said anything specific about it except that he said, "you are being childish." For all I know, his words had nothing to do with her breasts and might have been a reference to her behavior. I'd need to hear more of what she said, what the photographers said and what he said to make a conclusion that that wasn't his finest hour.
The only other thing I've heard her say about the incident is that her dad told her she could have just said no.
Looking at the VH1 outtakes from Destiny Rules when she was railing at Lindsey, "I knew you wouldn't like those songs, because I wrote them!" I would say she was being childish. It had nothing to do with her argument -- because I don't know what song she was even talking about and it could have been an excellent one -- but I found her immature based on her petulant way of expressing herself. If Lindsey had called her childish then, he would have been correct -- regardless of the song debate.
For all I know, she could have done the same thing 30 years earlier, when she was 30 years younger and probably much more inclined to be childish. I'd have to hear Stevie tell me additional things about the BN cover session to cast judgment.
Speaking generally though, if Stevie didn't want to take her top off and Lindsey was pressing her to do that, I think it's wrong and I wouldn't be with a man who did such a thing, especially if he went against me on such a personal issue in front of others. It would be tantamount to dating a pimp.
However, since Stevie later complained that Lindsey didn't like her to dress sexy on stage and said that she wasn't telling him what to wear (although it would have been nice if she'd nixed that kimono of his) and she didn't appreciate him trying to tell her what to wear, because she wasn't his "woman" on stage, she was an entertainer, it makes me unsure that that LB would be the same person who would insist that she strip for an album cover, especially in a room full of other men. That conduct seems at odds with other descriptions of Lindsey that Stevie has given us.

If I remember correctly, the quote was, "I knew you wouldn't like it, because I wrote it."
I've always speculated that the argument was over the suggestion of "Say You Will" as the album title, because she follows that statement by saying, "well, think of something else then."

Michele, it's always a given in anything I chuck in about this stuff that I don't have the full picture, so no argument there.
One thing that just leaps out of the screen at me from Destiny Rules is that these two are peas in a pod when it comes to passive-aggressive modes of communicating. Yes, in that doc Stevie is wont to harp on old scores and rise to the bait far too easily, but for me LB has also managed to confuse maturity with the ability to massively insult and disregard someone else's opinion whilst not raising one's voice.
As for the contention that it's not consistent for LB to be in favour of Stevie stripping for an album cover but not want her to look sexy on stage, I totally agree. And if I were writing that up as a fictional character, it would be a hard sell. But y'know I don't know why, because it's only hypocrisy, and actually quite common.

I didn't notice him massively insult or disregard anyone's opinion. I saw him needle her with the Thrown Down comment, but I'd hardly call that a massive insult, especially when he opted to say nothing and sidestep a larger argument when she defended her songwriting and fed him the Bob Dylan line.
However, I agree that they are both passive aggressive. I was saying in another post that I didn't take his DR tearfulness to be genuine. I think he was crying to move the hair-twirling Stevie and manipulate her into getting what he wanted. In Destiny Rules I saw them both playing chess and positioning to get the upper hand. This constant leveraging was apparent from the time they met with the record execs until the record engineering scenes.
Lindsey threatened to take his masters and go home if he didn't get his way. Stevie threatened not to do a full tour -- knowing that Lindsey craved the tour money to pay for his extra studio costs. And they have a habit of not talking to one another, as the whole incident with Karen and the unsigned papers and Lindsey calling Tony on the phone proved.
But I never said that Lindsey was mature in Destiny Rules or at any other time. I just said that I didn't have enough details about the Buckingham Nicks photo shoot. She said she was crying and already posing when Lindsey said, "you're being childish." I want to know what he was saying before they got to the naked, posing stage and if he was joining with the photographers in telling her to take her shirt off.

I know that she said she negotiated with them and that as a result she said they agreed to do half the photos with the blouse on:
'Oh, I'll win. They'll love this blouse, and they're gonna love the way I look.' Well halfway through the session, one of the photographers came over and said, 'Okay, it's time to take off the blouse,' and I died. it was awful, you know.

Its not a matter of being childish, no doubt embarrassment, humiliation understandably were her feelings on that day . And my point is, if all Lindsey said was "you're being childish. This is art," that doesn't sound like pushing her into it to me. He probably said more than that, but if he did she hasn't recounted what more he said. That's why I likened it to the Seinfeld "yadda, yadda, yadda" summaries, because so much has been skimmed over in the telling. Facts that may shed a different light on events. More obviously happened, but I have no idea what it was.

See, with respect, this is what's so ridiculous about this whole discussion. 'Waddy was involved in the photo shoot' - what does that mean? Was he there the whole time? Did he hear every word Stevie said to everyone, including on the way there and on the way home? Is it possible that she expressed her reluctance in a non-verbal way that someone who wasn't stoned, absent, male or otherwise oblivious might have noticed?
We don't have all the facts. We're all just latching on to the bits that support the way we feel about what we think happened, based on which character we like the most, and I want to out myself here and now as someone whose buttons get royally pushed by sexism against women artists, of which I believe the BN cover is an instance. You say 'needle', I say 'massively insult'. I wouldn't have been even as polite as Stevie was, if someone I'm supposed to be creating with patronised me like that.
The 'larger argument' you're referring to is, I take it, that he expressly did not say 'Stevie, you're no Bob Dylan'. Well, a cat can look at a king, and here's a newsflash, Lindsey: neither are you. And neither is anyone else. The only person who is 'a' Bob Dylan is Bob Dylan, and the only person who is 'a' Stevie Nicks is Stevie Nicks.
She has the right to be judged for her own work, and I do think that Lindsey overstepped the mark when he took on her lyrics because she wouldn't do that to him, kvetching about GYOW notwithstanding because she has expressly said that, as much as she hated it, she would never ask him to change it because that was his reality and a writer has to write what's real to them.
She also has had decades of sharing authority over the musical side of her songs, which means keeping as much authority as possible over the lyrics assumes even greater weight. Granted, no one was stopping Stevie from becoming a better musician or arranger or producer, but that's not her forte - words and melodies are her forte, and LB should and does know that better than anyone, and yet he still waded in - which is, of course, why Stevie found collaborating with Dave such a refreshing change! :D

Cracked me up when she said on The Chris Isaak Show how her grandfather was jealous when she showed him the BN album. I thought it was funny he wasn't infuriated about her being topless, just envious of her getting an album cut.
Definitely more to the story. This was the girl who was hell bent on a career in music, had been dishing it out at local diners making connections, couldn't stand it when Lindsey did solo gigs and would have been thrilled to tour the steak house circuit. Not sure why people don't accept that that's what we're doing. We really can't resolve any of this with facts we don't and will never have. We're just stacking the deck to make our faves look their best.*

You say 'needle', I say 'massively insult'. I wouldn't have been even as polite as Stevie was, if someone I'm supposed to be creating with patronised me like that.
Yes, that's where we are never going to see eye to eye if you think someone asking whether you should change a pronoun in a song is a "massive insult." He loved the song. He asked her a question about the wording. She put him in his place and he dropped the subject.
She has complained about his lyrics and his musical stylings for decades. Not just GYOW but most of the Tusk tunes (and she compared Lindsey's taste for garbage rock to literal garbage). And she not only said she had a problem with them, but that Christine did too. Of course, she's entitled to her opinion, but the polite thing to do would have been to keep those criticisms within the band, not tell the press. She usually tells Lindsey what her complaints against him are and also tells the press. She has often discussed his perceived lack of lyric writing ability in her interviews. Even recently she said he must have taken lyric pills, since his current words sound so good to her (compared to his past history of dud lyrics). I don't call that having respect for his music.
However, I don't think people who work with each other so closely for years on end need to always respect each other anyway. Thirty or forty years in, you question, you butt heads and sometimes that helps you evolve or, alternately, it helps you stand stronger for your convictions and put out better work. I think that's what collaboration is supposed to be.
Plus, I know Lindsey is capable of defending himself, just as Stevie is, so I'm not into always seeing one or the other of them as a perennial victim.

Definitely more to the story. This was the girl who was hell bent on a career in music, had been dishing it out at local diners making connections, couldn't stand it when Lindsey did solo gigs and would have been thrilled to tour the steak house circuit. I can't see her letting a little fabric get in the way of her/their big break. No way. Besides, what's the big deal? She's pressed up against Lindsey, you can't see anything. Didn't she sleep with the guy like that anyway?
Well, you can't see anything in the photo, but I guess the photographers and others in the room got an eyeful and that must have been embarassing.
But Stevie was no shrinking violet. She definitely wanted BN and she's told us that she made the decision that the 2 of them would be in FM. Lindsey recently said that she is the one who wanted them to be a duo. Plus, she was behind the move to Southern California to pursue their dreams anyway. I think Lindsey would have played in local San Francisco bands for years, without the push from her. She is the one who had the most ambition and I don't see him bullying her into posing naked because their career depended on it, based on everything else she's said about him and him basically resisting everything. He wouldn't play steakhouses, fought with FM and threatened to leave and didn't manifest a "go along to get along" attitude in his early career the way I think he is kind of doing now that he has a family. I just don't see him saying, "you need to do this for Buckingham Nicks."
She negotiated with the photographers. Did she make them think she was ok with the topless shoot as long as they did some with the blouse?
We're just stacking the deck to make our faves look their best.
That's assuming you have favorites. It is possible to like all 3 pretty equally, which I wouldn't even have thought until Christine left the band and then I realized that while I thought I could stand to lose her more than the other two that I almost couldn't stand it. Which is not to say that I don't like the BN version of the band more than I liked the BTM version -- but the ache is still pretty strong and the hole very large.
I'm not stacking the deck to make Lindsey look better. I'm saying that some of the 52 cards are missing from the deck. They said they wanted Stevie's top off and she said she bargained with them, because she thought they would soon change their minds. Did she say, "I'm not comfortable with that" or did she say, "Let's do half with the blouse and half without." Did she voice her reluctance? Yes, I know you've suggested that anyone who wasn't a man would have known she didn't want to do it. I don't agree. Given the time frame, the hippie sixties, the "burn the bra" movement and the flamboyant behavior of people like Janis Joplin, I don't know if people would assume that she would be uncomfortable doing that unless she told them she was.
Yes, I would be uncomfortable. But I am insulted that women show their breasts a Mardi Gras. That's just me. I guess a lot of women think it's fun and funny to strip for beads and it's their body and their decision.
So, with the BN cover, Stevie said she got the photographers to agree to do 50/50.
Did Lindsey support the bargaining? If she hadn't made a deal with them to do it half and half and had just said "no breasts, period" would he have been ok with that? Or was he telling her to take her top off along with the photographers? If he was I consider it pimping his girlfriend. I just don't know that he was doing that, because Stevie has never discussed that part of the story.
By the time she says she was crying, her top was already off. I'm just wondering about the conversations that took place before it came off, what she said and what they said.

Cracked me up when she said on The Chris Isaak Show how her grandfather was jealous when she showed him the BN album. I thought it was funny he wasn't infuriated about her being topless, just envious of her getting an album cut.

Exactly.. on the "wow" factor in the music bussiness... barely sexy..

Stevie says: "Lindsey and I] were really poor when we took that picture [Buckingham Nicks album cover], and I went out and spent my last $111 on a really beautiful, very sexy blouse. And they agreed to do half the session in the blouse, and I thought 'Oh, I'll win. They'll love this blouse, and they're gonna love the way I look.' Well halfway through the session, one of the photographers came over and said, 'Okay, it's time to take off the blouse,' and I died. it was awful, you know.... "
There's one "music store" on eBay that sells about 50 bootleg BN CDs every month, and the discs are screen-printed (not home printer inkjet/ laser labels), discs are shrink-wrapped and there are the live tracks. And that's just one person. Selling the original vinyl as a collector's item doesn't hurt the bottom line. but mass-producing decent sounding discs with extras (and misrepresenting them as legit) and selling them quite openly on the marketplace isn't helping efforts to make a real BN CD a priority. Will everyone that's purchased a bootleg for $22+ put out the cash for a "official" release when what they have is just fine?

^^^LMAO!#$%^
I see your point, but I would buy an official release. Just for the remastering, liner notes and any official extras. It would be well worth the $12.99

Since Lindsey said something about waiting for an "event" (maybe even tour) to market the BN album, I can't believe that the final product wouldn't contain some kind of extras. Live versions maybe, acoustic. Outtakes. Liner notes. I think they'll do something to make the official release worth the purchase. Michele

$111 on a blouse. That has always bugged me.
My first real, full-time job, IIRC, paid about $125 a week. And that was 1981. And mine was a desk job. Granted, there is the tip factor...but, still...prices were just not that high back then. A $25 blouse was considered VERY expensive back in the day.
Must have been made of gold or something.
In which case, I'd cry, too.
But, if it was that blouse that's on the back cover of BN...she was ripped off.
Another reason to cry.
And, by the way, I'm just teasing. I would imagine this whole thing was traumatic, AT the time. And, even if it was just to make Dad Nicks feel better, later, I have a hard time drumming up sympathy now NOT because of the event itself but because, as I mentioned before, in her home--that picture (if not the cover itself) is prominently displayed under a picture of a rather homely gypsy woman (forgive me if it's a historical figure or someone's relative. Actually, it looks like one of mine, now that I think of it).
I wouldn't take one of the top 10 traumatic moments in my life and stick it on my piano...inviting comment and making me relive it again when someone just happens to notice the nudie picture of myself and my main wolfman in plain sight.
So, yeah, I think it's the drama queen, waiting to emerge, and I wish they'd all just get over themselves. I'm more than happy with my BN LP. Dirty cover and all. I don't much care if they release it. Not anymore.

Didn't she say she spent her last $111.00 and bought all the Fleetwood Mac albums and listened to them from back to front after Mick asked them to join the band?

In another interview from I'd guess 2005, she points to this picture and says she loved it so much that she designed the whole room around her.
