UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. – June 28, 2011 — NBC’s “The Voice” will add rock legend Stevie Nicks, Pat Monahan (lead singer of Train) and Ryan Tedder (lead singer of OneRepublic) to its star-studded live results show and season finale on Wednesday, June 29 (8-9 p.m. ET).
The recording stars will sing with the four remaining finalists for each team. Nicks will pair with contestant Javier Colon, while Monahan sings with Vicci Martinez and Tedder will form a duet with Beverly McClellan. They will join previously announced Grammy Award-winning star Miranda Lambert (who is married to Blake Shelton, one of the series’ musician coaches) who will sing with the fourth finalist, Dia Frampton.
The announcements were made by Paul Telegdy, Executive Vice President, Alternative Programming, NBC and Universal Media Studios.
Nicks is a multi-Grammy-winning member of the legendary Fleetwood Mac whose “Rumours” album (Grammy Album of the Year) was one of the biggest selling records in rock history. She is also a Grammy-winning solo artist whose “Bella Donna” debut CD sold well over five million copies. Her current solo CD, “In Your Dreams” — her first studio CD in over a decade — debuted last month at #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart. Nicks is also a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Grammy Hall of Fame. She has written and performed such classic hits as “Landslide,” “Rhiannon,” “Edge of l7” and “Gold Dust Woman.” She is scheduled to begin a solo tour next month.

SDMHA?
Surely they'd pick an actual duet song, it'd be foolish of them not to when she's got quite a few to pick from, no?

This will be huge. "Dancing with the Stars" aims at a decidedly broad but milquetoast cross section of the populace, but "The Voice" is specifically for fans of music. And what an interesting pairing too. I'm so hoping that Stevie has learned a lesson or two from her last few missteps and will be singing something that she can comfortably scale. It will probably be "Landslide," but perhaps it could be a reworked "For What it's Worth." Also, it's rather ironic that a show that is all about the voice is featuring a singer who is far from being a good technical singer.

Since the idea of The Voice is to showcase a new artist, I am going to put money on Insider. Its something we know Stevie can sing well, and it is a Male lead song that she can just sing backup for.

But I wonder if they would do that, since that's technically a Tom Petty track?
I would love it, though. Stevie sounds incredible on that song and it's one of my favorites.

Please no. Especially not a duet, I can't see how that would logically make sense or sound good.

I haven't watched this show. My 1st thought was "Whenever I Call You Friend" (which could be...interesting in her mature voice), but these reality music shows seem to have a thing for "Rhiannon". "Stand Back" or "Edge" might be smart choices. I don't think the song they do will necessarily be a studio duet if the point is to show off a contestant's voice. Then again, if, as somebody mentioned, "Leather and Lace" was performed earlier in the season, I doubt that will prevent it from popping up in the show now. American Idol always rehashed stuff from earlier in the season on its finales (back when I watched it). So L & L is perhaps the safe bet.
Just please, not "Landslide" or "Secret Love".
Does anyone know, is the song choice up to the show or the contestant? I think if it's up to the contestant, we're perhaps more likely to get a good song choice rather than something safe & bland & over-done like "Landslide".

I'm sure it'll be something simple, like Rhiannon...each one sharing a verse, and singing the chorus together.

Since it's a boy, though, I feel like they kind of set it up so they could sing a song that was meant to be sung as a duet. They could have easily paired her with a girl and done a repeat of the 2010 Grammy's (although hopefully with better vocals from the contestant than Swift could offer).

I hope she pulls out "Gold Dust Woman". That one always works great live, and unlike "Rhiannon", it does not require her to move around the stage to be edgy.

Dia's voice would be most suited to Stevie's style.
Stevie is still a very direct singer. No trills, spills, roller-coaster rides of vocal acrobatics. Have a song, have a pretty, but highly unusual, voice--deliver.
I like Beverly but my ears were bleeding after hearing her and Christina sing. But, I am so not a Christina fan. Or Mariah, for that matter.

Exactly what I was thinking of. But I can't imagine them having the contestant sing harmony for Stevie the whole time, and I can't imagine Stevie singing the higher harmony nowadays. I guess it's possible they transpose it down a few steps for the male and then that would be more feasable. Hm, I don't know.

The point of this performance is to showcase his singing ability, not Stevie's. As such, he should be singing the lead and Stevie should be harmonizing. I think this could work if they do it in the higher Dixie Chicks version key while Stevie does the low harmony. I do hope I'm wrong and they pull out a killer version of FWIW instead. Not gonna happen though since it's not the kind of song that showcases the range and timbre of a voice.

Landslide - the song that will haunt us till the end of our time on this earth.
Honestly, I don't mind Stevie doing "Landslide" just due to the fact that she nails it pretty much every time, and being that "The Voice" has become a big hit TV show, it's preferable that she comes out smelling like a rose. ;). Other than "Rhiannon", EO17 & GDW, almost every older song Stevie does nowadays pales in comparison to its original glory. IMO Stevie's current voice no longer does justice to the likes of the sultry "Dreams" or SDMHA. Even "Stand Back" has begun to sound forced & strident.
My only other dream song would be for Stevie to have the balls to show up on this show and do a duet rendition of her glorious new single "For What It's Worth" :D But I'm sure the producers of "The Voice" want her to do one of her classics
I would just sh*t myself if Stevie comes out and does something unpredictable.

Precisely what I was saying - I doubt he'd be doing harmony to her for the whole song considering that he's the one trying to win a singing contest.
I mean, I'm not saying they won't do it - it's very likely, Landslide is arguably Stevie's most popular song and given the recent success with Glee and all that jazz, I can see why they'd pick it... I just don't think that it's the most rational song choice, by any means, and hope and pray they go with something - anything - different.
Nothing against Landslide, because, no joke, it's probably my favorite song of all time, as tired as I am of it being performed hah.

Personally if I never hear Landslide- or Dreams or Stand Back- ever again, it will be too soon.
But for the general audience, who aren't HUGE Stevie or Fleetwood Mac fans, hearing and hearing the original singer/songwriter do Landslide may still be thrilling.

Well, Stevie singing Landslide will entrance me every time, even if she's singing it with someone else. But it IS getting old (lyrical pun intended!) that everyone feels the need to cover it these days. It's a really special song but now it's becoming a cliche.

Just watched on my DVR. I heart Stevie. She justs makes the whole thing look so effortless and beautiful. For all the lip we've given her about embracing the young singers in recent time, look at all the exposure it's brought her this year. Short of American Idol, she's been on some very major network hits this year. I really hope she continues to bring her brillance to a whole new generation. It's the gift that keeps on giving.
And Adam Levine is a huge Stevie fan. I've seen lots of you tube comments where people were directed to Stevie's stuff there from Adam. And did you see Christina was bowing down to her. And Carson plugged the album.
What a cool 4 minutes!

Every so often I get a blaring reminder of why I love this woman so much, and this is one of those instances. What an incredible performance from both singers. You can tell they both totally LOVED singing together too... they were grinning from ear to ear and played off each other and everything. It seems the past decade or so that Stevie just hasn't been so great at harmonizing as she once was. Her voice hasn't blended with other artists particularly well, and she often comes across as indifferent to be singing her songs with someone else. NOT HERE!! She's completely into it and loving every second of it! It's amazing how different these two voices are, but how they effortlessly blend together. This performance makes me proud to be a Nicks/Mac fan.

Each of the final four contestants was worthy of winning (I thought it would be Dia). But I wonder how many extra votes Javier may have gotten last night solely based on yesterday's announcement that he'd be dueting w/ Stevie tonight. He completely deserved to win, but I'd still like to think Stevie's magic gave him that extra 2% margin to pull ahead of Dia.

I just can't get over this whole performance/appearance. I love it so much.
Stevie was basically exalted. Everyone on the show seemed so genuinely happy and excited that she was there. They just kept praising her, but it didn't seem forced or scripted at all.
And in turn, Stevie was all smiles and you could tell she was also so happy to be there. Poised and graceful and considerate during the duet and afterward. They sounded FANTASTIC.
And how sweet was Christina standing there bowing, and Carson for escorting Stevie off stage?
Not to mention, I loved her outfit.

Javier Colon was a contestant on ‘The Voice‘ who managed to do the unthinkable: He got all four coaches to turn their big red space chairs around during the blind audition phase. His coach Adam Levine said that Colon has one of the best voices he has ever heard. We’re not going to argue with that superlative assessment.
Colon, who is a father, has never let the “chew you up and spit you out” music business stop him, and on tonight’s finale, he performed the tender ballad ‘Landslide’ with the inimitable legend Stevie Nicks, taking subtle direction from her as she lead the song. He met her in the middle, and it was earth-shattering.
The performance was a stunning collision of modern and classic, novice and legend and by the second verse, Colon and Nicks brought out the best in each other. The song exists as a vehicle for powerful voices, and when these two sang the signature line, “When I see my reflection / In the snow covered hill” in tandem, the roof was effectively ripped off. The hair on our arms stood on end.
Colon and Nicks closed their performance by sharing a hug. They were met with a standing ovation from all four coaches.
Levine said he had to fight off tears after the duet. “I’m pretty speechless. You just sang with Stevie Nicks and it is one of the most beautiful duets I’ve ever heard. Now you’re one of my heroes. You deserve to win this competition,” he declared.

So he's singing harmony and she's got melody?
Yeah, I popped in for rehearsal. Heard about it yesterday and I have a friend on the show. It was pretty spectacular. I think this is a far better duet version than with Sheryl or the Dixie Chicks. Those choruses just soared. Was even better in person, as the place was pretty empty, has surprisingly good acoustics, and was pretty friggin' loud. Plus they did it twice. I loved it. Stevie was so cute and it sounded beautiful. I know nothing about the show, but am glad he won.

does anyone else notice how Stevie tends to rise above expectations when taken out of her comfort zone??? She's never performed with him before, but it seemed like she brought her A-game! similar to TP and DH. she just seems to lay it out when challenged. i wish she would work with a producer she doesn't know. i love IYD, but i wish she had stepped out more. DS kept her in the california country rock she is used to.

I think she took a lot of risk with IYD. This is Stevie we're talking about; she likes her comfort zone. She took upon the challenge of writing with Dave, she took upon the challenge of trusting him to make the album that he promised her.
I want to know what happened when she began working with Adam Levine in 2008. Did she try some of IYD tracks with him, some other demos, some new stuff? I remember reading they recorded several songs. Maybe those will surface sometime soon.
And maybe she'll work with Cee Lo next. LOL.

I totally agree with the assertion that she rises to the occasion when challenged or televised or something that seems to raise the stakes. But I disagree that DS kept her completely in her comfort zone. Yes there is some california country rock but Ghosts Are Gone is a straight forward rocker, Wide Sargasso Sea is her intense/artsy rocker, Moonlight is her torch song, New Orleans is Nicks' at her jazziest, You May Be The One is her at her bluesiest, Secret Love is her techno wistful song, Soldier's Angel is at her grittiest, and Everybody Loves You is her pop gem. And the list goes on. Only For What It's Worth which is her acoustical-ish entry, In Your Dreams, and Cheaper Than Free are the obvious safe zones for her. The exception possibly being My Heart although even that song is the closest ode to Led Zeppelin I have ever heard from her in terms of structure and style. Lastly, Annabel Lee - I credit DS with taking that pretty good demo and turning it into the victory anthem it is today. This album is far more diversified than people seem to acknowledge...

I thought she looked fantastic and those close ups were certaintly well deserved, as were Carson Daly's praises. I'm really happy for Javier...he seems like a genuinely nice guy and has an amazing voice! And hey...singing with Stevie Nicks didn't hurt!!:laugh:
I watch this show & I was on The Ledge earlier & did not see this thread, so I was totally surprised Stevie was on. And she did a good job. Looked amazing, sounded good. I really wanted Dia to win, but I'm happy for Javier. I'm sure they will all do really well in their careers.

I've never seen the show and frankly I'm not really into the idea of music as competition. But it was fun to watch and I think it's really interesting that they gave him the harmony part. Maybe Stevie has sung it too many times to be 100% confident about singing anything other than the lead part. I can imagine that she wouldn't want to hurt his chances at all by making a mistake.
Also, who is the blond female judge? (Is that Cristina Aguilera? I know her name but I don't really know what she looks like.) I can't believe they showed her pushing her chest up (and out) on national TV. Good editing, guys. Jeesh.

I'm not so sure it was the editing or Christina waiting for the camera to focus on her. I've watched this show since the beginning and know pretty much 100% more than I've ever wanted to know about her bosoms. Stevie Nicks, Miranda Lambert, One Republic's Ryan Tedder and Train singer Pat Monahan each performed with the finalists on "The Voice" on Wednesday night.
The Fleetwood Mac singer didn't leave a dry eye in the house after her duet with winner Javier Colon on her 1975 classic, "Landslide."
After the performance, Colon's coach, Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine, was in tears and could barely give his critique.
"I told Stevie Nicks I wouldn't cry on national television," said Levine, his eyes welling up.
"I'm going to get through that and talk to you about other stuff. That was the coolest thing you've ever done other than have kids and get married. I'm pretty speechless.
"You just sang with Stevie Nicks," he added, "and that's one of the most beautiful duets I've ever heard in my life."

http://www.nbcconnecticut.com/news/local/It-Doesnt-Get-Better-than-Singing-With-Stevie-Nicks-Javier-124783339.html
Javier Colon is thankful for all the support he received from home as he competed to become the first winner of “The Voice” and for the amazing experiences he had along the way.
One experience he never expected was to sing a live duet with the legendary Stevie Nicks.
“It just doesn’t get any better than that. Singing with such an icon, such a legend, is something that I did not expect to be doing on this journey,” he said.
The magnitude of what he was doing hit home when they were running through “Landslide.”
“I looked over at her when we were about to start singing the harmonies together and I was just taken back by the fact that -- I was like -- I’m singing with Stevie Nicks right now, and I was almost moved to tears in the middle of the song, realizing the opportunity that I was given,” Colon said.

^I honestly think she held back a bit on purpose to let javier shine.
Now THAT is how a duet with Stevie on national television should be done. That was really spectacular, I don't believe I've heard anyone harmonize that high w/ her, especially a dude. Christina got so excited she had to grab (okay, adjust) her boobies. I loved how Adam Levine got all verklempt - "that's the coolest thing you've ever done besides get married and have kids." LOL
You caught that too, huh? Classy lady. Another time she was chugging her coke, and when carson was talking to Javier after the announcement that he won, she had her back turned & was talking to someone else on stage. Pay attention, airhead.
To me, Landslide is yawn-inducing anymore...but wow. I had the biggest, cheesiest smile on my face the whole time they sang that. Flawless!

Carson has excellent taste in music. I record his show every night. He attends SXSW every year and has a lot of Austin bands on his show all year 'round. He did mention IYD and said everyone should buy it.
Yeah. Too bad he said it in about 2 seconds & you could barely hear him. :distress:

The hair on our arms stood on end.Colon and Nicks closed their performance by sharing a hug. They were met with a standing ovation from all four coaches.
Levine said he had to fight off tears after the duet. “I’m pretty speechless. You just sang with Stevie Nicks and it is one of the most beautiful duets I’ve ever heard. Now you’re one of my heroes. You deserve to win this competition,” he declared.

so where is this FWIW clip?
I missed something - what is this about?
I wanted to tie her hands down. I totally get that she was "conducting" or "directing" and not merely "flapping" - but eh. I'm glad she got the exposure and she looked completely amazing, and it was nice to see Waddy dressed up.
Me too.
Sorry. I didn't like it. The only time I have heard this guys voice and it is not that good. Straining much? I don't know what everyone is creaming over.
Don't be so bitter, Betty.
That corset? Was hot. She looked great - the wide shots of her silhouette were breathtaking. But anyone else notice her lipstick was f*cked up? I swear for a minute her mouth looked crooked & I was worried she'd had a stroke.

I was hoping it was just the way she was singing / moving her mouth haha, but it was totally lopsided. The right part of her top lip was a lot bigger than the left, or something.

I'm not a fan of the single-jazz-hand "flapping" gesture either. I was willing her to stop doing that, but she never listens to me. :)

Javier Colon didn't win the first season of "The Voice" by much -- a hair perhaps, or maybe a nose.
Host Carson Daly explained Wednesday night before revealing the champion that the lanky singer had only narrowly edged out first runner-up Dia Frampton by just two percent of the total vote.
Regardless of the miniscule margin of victory, Colon also won by a "Landslide" -- with his stellar performance on the 1975 Fleetwood Mac song in a duet with icon Stevie Nicks.
The involvement of a legend like Nicks may hint at the direction NBC will go in next season -- and we'd love to see the show bring in more superstar guest musicians.
As the singing-competition template "American Idol" has demonstrated over the years -- most notably by involving Lady Gaga and U2 in 2011 -- big-name artists not only help attract and entertain viewers, they also lend an air of importance to the proceedings.
But "The Voice" is already ahead of where "American Idol" was when it began. The Fox show didn't begin using guest performers until its second season.

Shame shame Rick...the only time Cheaper than Free should be sung is during the apocalypse and whenever Taylor Swift and Stevie decide to do another duet:D
I was almost thinking Cheaper Than Free would be cool to do but I did like it the way they did it and it took Stevie out of her realm too which was nice to see great job both and he can sing and he is from Connecticut too cool to hear found out after the show on the news. My first time seeing the show and it was either Javier would win and I though he would or the last girl that performed that who I was thinking didn't like the other two.

Apart from that, Adam Levine is sooooosexy! I would have thought Javier would have thanked him with his winning words?

I don't know, I'm kind of actually glad it was Landslide. I'm afraid if they did something else that people weren't as familiar with it wouldn't have gone over so well with the public (just, probably wouldn't have been as standout a moment as it ended up being) and would be easily forgotten.

Yes, it was nice to see Stevie treated so nicely by the folks on the show; yes, it was nice that she did not over-sing like Christina & most of the women finalists; yes, I know she is probably tired after the trip. But her voice was just so-so for me, & I'm sorry, but her growing habit of gesturing/pantomiming through her lyrics bugs the crap out of me every time.
That being said, I am impressed by how many fans she has gotten on Facebook, especially considering her page is not all that old.

Hee hee! I find it quite endearing, especially in this particular instance when she was basically motioning him to stop or cut right before the final notes.
Also, in her defense, she can't move around on her legs like she once did and dance across the stages of the world so she's over-compensating with the upper part of her body (that didn't quite sound like a defense?). :o

I'm pretty much burnt out on talent shows, so I haven't watched any episodes of The Voice. I actually forgot to record the Stevie episode. It was nice to see the clip posted.
Like others, I didn't want to hear Landslide again, but was very moved by the performance. Stevie is looking so cool and sounding so good these days! I wished I saw the whole show to see the reactions of the hosts and audience.
Then I thought....perhaps the show is On Demand. And it is! I'm watching it now! The the snippet of background music they lead off to the commercial after the comments sounds like The Chain.

It is on the rise, isn't it. Lasso worked so well for SYW that she even decided to do a little paintbrush stroke for Lindsey's song. Now, she's out of control. Makes one long for the old days, when she spent her time playing with mic ribbons and swishing her skirt.
In fairness though, she sometimes "conducts" Lindsey on Landslide too. Not through the whole song as she did here, but she's orchestrated during certain patches of the song for years.

It's because they no longer allow her to have that little wood block she'd beat with a stick (maybe Lindsey told her it was too showy? :p). Or that ribbed wooden thing she'd stroke with a stick. She has to do SOMETHING sonically important with those hands!

Stevie suffers from poor vision- the lighting was sort of dim for someone that doesn't see well and the pathway was dark. I think she was just nervous about taking a spill. I'm sure the memory of Xtina falling stands clear in her mind. For Stevie, a fractured ANYTHING just before she goes on tour would suck for everyone. Nothing wrong with taking someone arm for this gig.

I could not have said this better myself. Excellent post.:nod:

Question: You got to duet with Stevie Nicks on “Landslide” during the Voice finale. There was a ton of eye contact between the two of you throughout the performance. Had you had a lot of time to rehearse? What was going on between you two at that moment?
JC: It was so awesome. [Laughs.] We were so dialed into each other. We’d maybe gotten to rehearse it three times that day. I was super nervous about it, because I was singing with Stevie Nicks, and she’s just a legend. You’re looking over to your left and there’s this icon, and you’re singing these wonderful harmonies with her. And I was moved to realize the amazing opportunity I’d been given. There are so many accomplished artists who’ve been performing and famous for decades who haven’t gotten a chance to sing with her. Something special was happening. Eye contact was key; I was following her every move and I wanted it to be as clean as possible. We were looking right into each other’s eyes and connected for three and a half minutes. Colon mentioned that the night that he won that Adam Levine told him, “Hold on for the ride man, because it’s going to be crazy.”
It was also Levine who surprised Colon and told him that he would be singing with Stevie Nicks during the finale of The Voice.
“I just about lost it. I mean, I just couldn’t believe it,” he recalled. “You know, singing with Stevie was just so mind blowing to me, and I was following her every move.”
It was shortly after his performance with Stevie Nicks that Colon would be announced the first ever winner of The Voice. He shared with us that it wasn’t his name that he was expecting to be called.
