Just a little heads up, it was confirmed today by Karen that Stevie will be doing a solo gig in Manchester in November. More info will follow shortly, I'm sure :) :)

Manchester is simple to get to. May may may be able to go (think of it as a consolation prize for my lack of Lindsey related tour goodness) if I can release some funds. My Mother said she'd go with me to gigs close to home, but I'm too mad at her to want her to come with me at the moment.

The lady in front of me asked the same thing, and Stevie told her that a possible UK show was one of the reasons she wanted to do the signing, just to see if there was an audience and people who would want to come. Judging by the amount of people who showed up yesterday, I think it's a definite possibility.

I'm with Max on this one - after the reception she got at Hard Rock Calling and the turn out to the signing, hopefully this means that she's realised what a following she has in the UK. The crowd was going nuts for her on Sunday, and fans had been outside HMV since 8am on Monday waiting for her.

Stevie wanting it and it actually happening are two different things though. She's often spoken of her desire to come tour here again. But fingers crossed it does happen this time.

Hi all, was at the HMV signing and also asked her about a proper tour (think most people did!!!). She said that she would hopefully be back in the Autumn and that she had had a fab reception from London. I told her she should do the Albert Hall as it would be amazing!! She said 'Really? Would I fill it?' Told her she would fill it 10 times over...so if she announces thats where she is playing I will pat myself on the back!!!

I just had to google what a "quid" was. I'm going to make such an ass out of myself in the UK
But yes, I am 95% sure that I'll be there! I met my offer at Durham so now, we just need to get confirmation from the loan people and it's all done!

Doesn't Albert Hall only have a capacity of about 5000 or so?? Of course you'd fill it, Stevie!!! This just goes to show how much she underestimates her fanbase here... we'd have that place sold out in minutes!
Shepherds Bush Empire would be a great venue too, really intimate. And anywhere up north... like my front room!

Well its about time! She managed in 1989 and played Birminham and London allbeit on the back of Rooms On Fire but I dont understand why she doesnt think she can sell a show. It seems a common topic at the moment. The Fleetwood Mac shows here have found a resurgence of fans new and old so I would have thought that and the reception she has had in the uk would clear that up. Is it the financial logostics or the risk? 22 years between shows is a long gap!

It's looking less and less likely now, which I'm really sad about. I would love her to do some dates here. June was such a great month for UK Stevie fans... the signing, HRC, all the press. I want a repeat! Oh what a weekend that was!

It sucks i missed it all with college & everything i would of still tried to go but i don't live in London. She still has an awful lot of support over here (Hard Rock proved that) but like you said i do think the tour is looking less likely for us now which is sad :( Stevie is always so full of suprises though so maybe (i can dream) that she will spring some dates on us.

Didn't Stevie have a great turnout for her record signing over there?
She plays Australia because she has plenty of fans over there and doesn't have problem selling shows. Infact, it's the only place Crystal Vision has went gold. I thought the response in the UK to her new album as pretty decent. Maybe she will go.

This really irks me.
The UK was second to the US in terms of the highest position "In Your Dreams" reached and she probably still won't tour here. It just annoys me that she's touring the US again and Australia this year and the UK is seemingly being ignored yet again. I'm still surprised she didn't manage to squeeze in a couple of dates while she was over here for a month in the summer, it's not like she'd have great difficulty selling out here. She doesn't even have to play the O2, she could play something a little smaller like the Royal Festival Hall or Shepherds Bush Empire. Fingers crossed for some dates next year but I have a feeling the hyde park show is all we're getting in the UK.
I recall something about Stevie using the success of the album, public reaction and interest in her signing in London as to wether some dates here would be worth it or not. I would say all of those factors were a success and it probably still won't make a difference in her decision. Oh well.

I don't really get it either. LB has less pull than Stevie and, to take my city of Edinburgh as an example, he's playing the Usher Hall here in December. It has a capacity of just under 3,000 but is a stylish venue that has seen the likes of James Taylor in recent times. I understand that Stevie likes to travel well, and that her band and entourage are on the larger size, but does everything have to come down to the almighty dollar? Couldn't break-even be enough for the experience of playing for fans who haven't seen her solo in more than two decades?
I think the issue of whether it's her 'decision' is interesting. I suspect it's more her decision than she thinks, although she'd never go without Waddy or the girls, so I guess that's in there somewhere too. :(

Well, it really does boil down to the almighty dollar; touring abroad for Americans is particularly expensive due to double taxation. And when you multiply that by a couple dozen musicians and crew, it becomes a money-losing proposition very, very quickly. Ultimately it boils down to the promoters and their willingness to make the gamble that Stevie will be a draw and will be profitable for them since obviously Stevie is willing to go international, e.g., Australia. And it's not like just one promoter can guarantee a string of shows across the continent; I suspect it involves multiple independent promoters. And without a critical mass of guarantees, it probably makes no sense for her to bring her show to Europe. Lindsey is a different situation because his solo payday and his overhead are much lower. I suppose Lindsey is willing to work for peanuts and/or lose money in exchange for the personal fulfillment of bringing his solo show abroad. And, to be fair, his show is well suited for clubs and small theaters, as opposed to Stevie's larger, arena-scale show. Sure, I'll bet Stevie is willing to do a club show here and there (like she does in the States), but I think she would wrinkle her nose at a 30-city tour of Europe playing clubs.

The whole cost excuse really annoys me - how can it be less expensive to take her whole band to Australia - the other side of the world - than a hop across the Atlantic here?!? I love Stevie to bits, but her treatment of her UK/ European fans is shocking sometimes.

Has nothing to do with cost; the Oz promoter is giving her a HUGE guarantee and footing the bill, expense-wise. No non-Aussie band tours Down Under unless there is
no money risk.

True - and it's that which really irks me most. So much for it being about the fans. Stevie could affored to tour other places so that her fans could see her yet she won't because she won't swallow the cost.

Then I suppose you are okay with working your normal full time job but taking a big paycut, or worse, owing your employers money. The reason she goes to "other places" is because they make it worth her while. She is certainly not a humanitarian mission to Australia; she is evidently making serious bank there and is playing large theatres and stadiums there. Perhaps your ire should be directed more at your local tour promoters than at Stevie? And what about all of the apathetic residents of Europe who didn't exactly run out and buy Stevie's newest album? If nobody is buying her music, chances are that they won't pay money to see her live in concert. Promoters realize this.

I think that's harsh, especially since Dodfather and I and others in this thread are exactly the people who did buy Stevie's product in Europe. The broader point is surely why a tour has to make 'serious bank' to be worth doing at all? I actually don't believe that there is are no promoters at all who are willing to bring Stevie to the UK, especially if it was in conjunction with Dave S. And if the real shortage is not simply 'promoters' but 'promoters who will guarantee Stevie et al a massive paycheque', then we're back to the central point: why must the cheque be massive?
I don't pretend to understand the business, but I have eyes and ears, and there are acts coming to this country and my city all the time who don't have the drawing power of Stevie Nicks, and they manage it somehow. I just wonder why she 'can't'.

Mostly because Stevie has high overhead costs. Stevie is very generous to those she works with and extravagant herself. I'd bet the house she pays her bandmates very handsomely, esp. her long-time cohorts Waddy, Lori, Sharon & Carlos  Not to mention all the road crew, her assistant, friends and publicist - Stevie is notorious for her entourage and she will go perform where the promoters are willing & wanting to pay what she feels she is worth. She's a business unto herself and at her age she is not going to pare down if she doesn't have to. She's simply not getting the offers from the UK... it's not entirely in Stevie's hand's only. Hard Rock Calling worked because Rod invited her along to open, Had he not generously done so, I doubt she would have spent an entire 3 weeks in the UK promoting In Your Dreams.

But how can that be true, as stated? There must be more to it, such as there being no one willing to bring her here on the terms she requires? I don't doubt what you've heard, I just can't reconcile that less popular acts appear here, they really do! So how are they doing it? Answer must be that they're running a different financial model.
I think our gripe boils down to the feeling that if there was really a will, then there would be a way. And it seems obvious that, where Stevie is concerned, there just isn't a will that sees performing the best music of your life while you're still vibrant enough to do it justice as a worthwhile thing to do.
But OK. I'm the first person to helpfully point out to others that the role of being a fan is thankless, so I'll take a leaf out of my own book and stfu now. :D

Yeh, I just kind of concluded this myself, Christopher. Thanks.

Trust Ed on this.
Stevie needs to make a certain amount of money at each gig to make any profit and unfortunately, the UK venues aren't willing to meet that requirement. She truly is working on it and she's hoping to make it happen in the near future... just wait it out and you should be pleasantly surprised.

Ya know, my other half is a football fan (that's soccer to you lot) and as he always says when his team's 1-0 up with five minutes to go, and then end up losing 2-1 ..... 'It's the hope that kills you!!'
I'D GIVEN UP, DANI, YOU LITTLE MINX! I WAS HAPPY!! Now I have a miserable little hope-worm in my heart. Pah.

Thanks for that link. I have nothing to compare that info against, and I don't know whether to trust it, but at least it's facts of a sort.
My basic point, though, remains the same: Stevie is 63, and life and people being what they are, IYD might be the last solo album she makes. She had pneumonia the day it was released. Anything can happen to anyone at any point, so if there was ever a time to say 'Y'know what? I have many millions of dollars in the bank, and I can't take it with me, so let's blow a chunk of it taking this music out there, even to the places where I don't make a dime', then this is it.
I realise my 'problem' is that I don't see what she does as a day-job. I see it as her vocation, her calling, what she is on this earth to do. And the trouble is, I got all of that BS from her. And that's why I expect her to live up to it.

Thank you.

This would be all well and good, if it weren't for the fact that Stevie (her management team, whoever) have done very little to foster a fanbase over here, outside of Fleetwood Mac.
We wait over 20 years for her to perform a (1 hour) solo show over here and still her album reaches number 14 in the UK charts... just imagine how much higher it could have got if she had actually nutured her fanbase here. I'd say the chart position for IYD and the reaction she got at HRC are pretty good indications that she has fans here that would be willing to go see her and make it worth her while... now we're just waiting and hoping.

If it's about security in terms of whether or not the shows would sell enough seats and make enough money, then she could have done the shows with Rod in Europe.

The whole cost excuse really annoys me - how can it be less expensive to take her whole band to Australia - the other side of the world - than a hop across the Atlantic here?!? I love Stevie to bits, but her treatment of her UK/ European fans is shocking sometimes.
I pretty much heard firsthand that this is the case... at the moment. Stevie would love to tour Europe. That's all I can say.
Blondie have done a UK tour for the past billion years. They bring an entire band, crew and family members over each year and sell out their shows. If Blondie can fill a venue, Stevie can most definitely fill a venue. So many more people like Stevie/FM than Blondie in the UK not only because FM were originally a British band.
If Lindsey can go to Europe and play, so can Stevie. Easily.
Thankyou.

Like someone said the Rod shows could of come here too! Courtney Love/Hole got to number 44 with their album in the UK and they still sold out their UK tour. They played the large academy's. I went to the gig in B'ham and it was rammed, a good few thousand standing and on balcony.I saw Cyndi Lauper at the symphony hall and it wasn't sold but she still did the show with a band and all sorts. I think it could easily be done if she played these sorts of venues. We're not asking for a whole stadium tour, just maybe a few gigs around the country. Like buttercookie said, Blondie has also done tours the past few years which have all sold out. If they can then Stevie deffinatly can.

Plenty of "has beens" still doing the rounds. Stevie is so far removed from that and on the back of a hit album and all the publicity, she would have a ball!!
